Severus Snape had believed that, for him, life after the Dark Lord was an impossibility, that his death was not merely justice, but necessity. He has survived, though, and now he must learn to live his new, unexpected life, and to find something beyond the narrow existence to which he was once bound. A Snape-centric post-war fic.
A Death’s Dominion sequel, but may stand alone. Not DH-compliant. DH-disregarded. Rated M for overall content. Much of it is "T," but the ratings rise to MA later for a reason, hence the switch to an M-rating for the earlier chapters. Watch the individual chapter summaries and author’s notes for ratings, warnings, and the characters appearing in that chapter.
Part One finds Severus dealing with some very immediate and dangerous consequences of his final confrontation with the Dark Lord more than three months before.

Moms are never quit being Moms, aren't they? I had to grin so widely at Gertrude's reaction and arguments! This whole renovating-Spinner's-End is really nice, too.
Author's Response: Yes, Gertrude did try to restrain herself, but the thought of Gareth "living with" Severus was a bit much for her, despite her forgiving attitude toward Snape. Glad you liked it! Thanks!

So sweet how a little sorrow can melt a heart and an attitude ;o)))) - I think it did Severus rather well to see that Poppy cared so much about him, fuss or not.
Author's Response: Yes, I think Severus appreciated the fussing this time. ;-)
Thanks!

*shiver* You created a really chilly and oppressing atmosphere here. The steps alone! The interaction between everyone is really well done and gives a very fitting general picutre of how things are. An unpleasant episode for Severus, to be sure.
Author's Response: I'm glad you found it so. I was hoping to have it have that effect!
Thanks for the review!
Awww Poppy. Lovely touches in her thoughts about Pomona and her relationship wiht Filius. About Hufflepuffs in general. Love the bits about her feeling lost in the new computerized muggle world. Your details add so much richness and depth to the story. Like the thought of Severus in his muggle clothes. The details of the flying tests are fascinating especially the idea of weaving the charms on and likening it to wards. Fascinating. Again, I feel like I'm learning something useful. Love Helena's anamagus form. Severus casting such an easy Patronus with so little effort is very intriguing. Hmmm thoughts of Poppy and he could do something he'd never done before. HmmmmmVery well rounded chapter. Looking forward to haveing the time to read the next one. Hopefully in the next day or two.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
I'm glad you enjoyed the Test Flight chapter. I try to give the kind of "every day details" about their world and how they live in it, and hope that the details add some richness and texture to the story, so I'm glad you enjoy them. (And have the feeling you're learning something real! haha! ;-))Happy thoughts, strong Patronus; thoughts about Poppy, strong Patronus. :D I'd say he managed to find a very happy thought! ;-)Thanks for the review!
The interaction between Hermione and Gareth is interesting. She seems to treat him more like the way she treats "the boys," rather than as a teacher and authority figure. I wonder if that's a consequence of the sort of familiarity of living in the same household, or because Gareth is less authoritative and closer to her own age than Hogwarts teachers, or simply because she is herself a young adult now, with enough confidence to try out her own methods and less inclined to be in awe of her teachers. The discussion between Gertrude and Gareth was also interesting. I laughed at the way he neatly sidestepped her concerns about the nature of his relationship with Severus. I can sympathise, though. As hard as it must have been to forgive Severus, the thought of him living and maybe even sleeping with her own son would be more than a little distressing. Will we hear more about the disagreement between her and Melina?Severus certainly was zesty, wasn't he? Once again, all I can say is he is very blessed to have such an easygoing friend as Gareth. I'm looking forward to more zesty chapters!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Gareth is easy going, and their living arrangements are quite "familial," so that, combined with Gareth's relative youth, gives Hermione the feeling that she can be a bit freer with Gareth. And in personal kinds of matters, he doesn't care -- most stuff, to a point, just rolls off his back and he doesn't mind a little bickering about breakfast foods -- but when it comes to the apprenticeship itself, he takes that very seriously. I think she's not going to be happy that she argued with him about using Platterkroyt! haha!Yes, Gertrude is more than a little concerned about that, but she's trying to not be overbearing about it. And Gareth didn't address her concerns directly, either, which might have helped her some.Yep, we will hear more about the disagreement w/ Melina. Not in the next chapter, but in the one following. Ah, yes. Zesty. LOL!
For all Minerva's admonitions and in spite of her own best judgement, Poppy just couldn't keep herself from fussing over Severus, could she? Though "Sev" didn't seem to mind. There's a lot he doesn't mind from Poppy that he would be very annoyed from someone else. Was he secretly enjoying it, or just distressed that she was distressed, I wonder. Poppy may fear having her heart broken by Severus, but it seems pretty obvious her heart's already engaged whether she wills it or not. I imagine that if Minerva hadn't been worried herself, she would have been rolling her eyes and smirking at Poppy's back while she was staring down at the gates, waiting for them to arrive.Poppy's pretty good at Sev-management, too. She was pretty sneaky in a Hufflepuffian way about manipulating him into eating and getting out into the fresh air.I liked the bit about the spatial distortion, too. That's a clever idea, and I like the idea of using magic to not just conceal or contain criminals, but to create hidden psychological barriers that have physical side effects. Also - there's a lot going on in this chapter! - Minerva's reaction to Healer Brighthead was funny, and so very... Minerva. Being treated like a "poor old dithery academic" who was victimized by her circumstances would certainly rub her fur the wrong way. Old Brighthead was lucky he wasn't turned into a snuffbox, himself.I'm sorry it's taken me so long to review. It's taken me several attempts to finish the chapter in one go so I can offer any coherent thoughts. I must've re-read the first third of it four or five times - I'd get started, then get pulled away, and have to start over again. But I finally have a semi-free evening to do whatever I want. And I want to read me some excellent Snapey fic!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Oh, I sympathize! I know what that's like -- being pulled away or distracted, then having to start again, losing the thread, and then starting yet again. Sometimes life just won't cooperate with reading! *sigh!* LOL!I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter once you were able to finally sit down and get to it. There is a lot going on in the chapter, and being interrupted would certainly lead to having to reread.Yes, Severus does put up with things from Poppy that he wouldn't from anyone else, even Minerva, whom he tolerates remarkably well, even though he grumbles and gets sarcastic with her sometimes. This chapter was slightly more from Poppy's perspective than we've been seeing, so we don't get the same access to Snape's thoughts and feelings as we usually do. He both tolerates her fussing more, doesn't want her to worry, and he actually kinda sorta appreciates it. Yeah, that Minerva-moment where she was annoyed with Healer Brighthead -- months later -- because he treated her like a poor dithery old academic, was fun. I imagine she was itching to say or do something! lol!Glad you liked the bit about the spatial distortion. I enjoy getting some magic into the magical universe, integrating it, while trying not to use it just as a deus ex machina. Thanks very much for the review! Hope you enjoy the next couple chapters, too. There's one on its way to being formatted for posting now -- likely be up in the morning.
Yea!! - 2 chapters in one week, and I see there is another one added today. Thank you! I'm reviewing for this chapter and the previous one. 1200 steps would definitely be a deterrent. I'd never make it back up. Severus buying Lucius the equivalent of the S. I. swimsuit edition was funny. Men will be men whether they are muggle or wizard:) Lucius seems genuinely concerned about the muggle that saved him. I hope Poppy and Severus can help him with the favor. I'm not feeling too sorry for Lucius and Narcissa. I think the MoM is taking better care of them then they deserve. I hope those 2 can prove they are worth the 2nd (3rd, 4th... whatever it is) chance they are being given. The interactions between Poppy and Severus were wonderful because it just seemed so normal (although the topic certainly isn't normal); like a husband and wife talking and comforting each other at the end of a hard day. If their relationship is going to evolve they need times like this.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
It'd take me a LONG time to climb back out, I'm sure! lolI'm glad you liked Severus buying Lucius that magazine -- it struck me funny. Glad you liked the interactions between Severus & Poppy -- as you say, normal, comforting conversation, etc., despite the topic. Thanks very much for the review! Glad you enjoyed the chapters. There will be another one up later this week, then one on the weekend, if I'm not a lazy slacker!
I have not reviewed recently. I would just let you know I still enjoy your story and are looking forward to futher developments. I am worried about Bella, hopefully she can do no harm from where she is now. I find Severus and Poppy very "sweet" together although I as some others thought Hermione would be the one, I can see it was all in my own imagination, I think it is because of their interactions in Deaths Dominion.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
I'm glad you're still enjoying the story! We'll definitely see what harm Bella might be able to do from where she is -- directly, indirectly, intentionally, or unintentionally! -- and where that all fits in the overall tapestry of the story.Hermione and Severus will always be good friends -- Severus certainly wouldn't have made it through that difficult time (in DD) nearly as well without his friends around him, including, and perhaps particularly, Hermione. Even though Hermione is not precisely a peripheral character in LVS, she's close to it. She is still important, though, both in relation to the way Severus's growth unfolds in the fic and as a character interacting with other characters in the story. Thanks for the review! Good to hear from you!
Quite the spot Hermione's picked for their little get-together. I'm intrigued by what happened to Gertrude on the island. What she might have tapped into and the fear of her 'disappearing.' As always fantatic detail and with a bit of intrigue thrown in. A delicious mix. It must be hard for Severus to be so constantly reminded of the attack on Gertrude, but it's very realistic that he would be dealing with the victims and victims' families of his Death Eater days. Oh Severus... Hermione is certainly different from the other witches you know... but she's also just a teenager. That age difference does show. Though I can certainly see her side of things too. Severus has been all over the map with her. Hope their friendship can withstand this misunderstanding.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
You'll find out more about Gertrude & the island in a later chapter, so I'm glad you're intrigued. :-)Yes, especially since the wizarding world is a relatively small place, he will continue to run into reminders of his darker past.Hermione had her reasons, and certainly was probably right to be confused about Severus's motivations, but her particular manner of reacting was the result of inexperience & age, as you say. But Severus probably shouldn't have tried again with her, since he has already just about come to the conclusion that he wants to be with Poppy -- but he feels he owes Hermione a debt, and being a bit of a confused puppy when it comes to these things, he decided that somehow that translated into offering her a romantic relationship. I think their friendship is a strong one (which is one reason that Severus mistook his feelings for her), so it will survive. :-)Thanks for the review! Hope you enjoy the next part, too. :-)
Wow! I'm a lucky GLM today. I get to read and review twice in one day. woo hooI feel so sorry for Gareth. The poor guy is living with two moody witches! No wonder he was so eager to meet Snape. tee hee. I'm surprised Hermione is trying so hard to take shortcuts instead of doing the work she was assigned. I guess she's still thinking she's all that and a bag of chips (to use one of my favorite sayings, lol)! No pink?? Oh, I think Gareth should cast a charm on Snape's bedroom to make it all pink, just for a joke. I'd love to see his reaction to that. I do think the arrangement is benefitial to both wizards and even more to Snape. It'll be good for him to have someone looking out for the house. Can't wait to see what's happening next!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
No, no pink! LOL!I'm glad you enjoyed that.Yeah, Hermione's cutting corners, trying to do too much and used to being smarter than her peers. She's in a different league now, though, and she still has things to learn. Thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to get the next chapter posted in a few days. These chappies are a touch lighter than the previous two -- "Descent into Hades" and "Home" -- though they have a bit of an edge to them, so I hope you enjoy them. Thanks again!
I am indeed watching Severus' journey with interest and enjoyment. And I'm not surprised that Hermione doesn't care for kippers.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Yeah, fish for breakfast . . . bony fish for breakfast . . . Glad you're enjoying it! Thanks for the review! :-)
I read the chapter then forgot to review it. All this time, I was thinking that I'd already reviewed. I'm sorry about that. I can't believe I was so slack this time around. OOPS!Poppy and Minerva was so cute (not exactly the word I want to use but it'll have to do) when they were worrying over Snape's tardiness. When Poppy got all worked up and was staring towards the gates and commenting on things and Minerva was patronizing her by saying she'd make sure things were "fixed" in the morning, I had a grin on my face. I don't know if you meant it that way, but it make me smile. I'm glad Snape told Poppy about his trip to see Lucius. I think he needs someone in whom he can confide and who understands how that sort of reaction from Bellatrix would utterly revolt him. It's also good for them that she's willing to be a little detective for him. Their way was sweet but Snape was a bit grumpy. I can imagine he would be after what he'd just witnessed but he seemed a bit "closed" to Poppy, at least with his affections and emotions. Oh well, guess he's just tired and upset.Looking forward to more.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Actually, Snape was about as open with Poppy as he ususally is, even in the garden, but since these scenes were more from Poppy's POV, we didn't see his entire internal monologue, etc., so we weren't privy to his feelings the way we often are in other parts of the story. I think that makes a difference in how he seems here. If you go back and just read the dialogue sections between them, leaving out the other descriptive stuff, you'd see he's often that way. And as you point out, he did have a bad day. He was just going through in his head what he should tell her, whether he should, blah blah blah. They are also not in their "on" phase of the relationship, so he wouldn't be out groping her, especially not out in the open! hee! Poor guy had a hard day, on top of all his regular hang-ups and the fact that he still doesn't know where he stands with Poppy -- he's having it rough, isn't he?Poppy did point out some things that needed fixing, so that was good, but her idea for giant flood lights was a bit extreme! LOL! But Minerva will have a couple little lanterns put up and trim back the trees and bushes, which is quite sensible. She was certainly working at trying to calm Poppy, though, wasn't she?I'm wondering where everyone's gone -- but maybe like you, they read and thought they'd reviewed! LOL! Particularly that previous chapter at St. Mungo's -- kind of a key chappie, that was, too. Glad you are enjoying it. I hope to have another chapter up for everyone soon! Thanks very much for the review!
For some reason the thought of Severus eating corn flakes makes me smile. He is taking the thought of Poppy possibly out with someone else very well. That's real growth for him. Minerva... 'a few games indeed.' Looks like Quin didn't quite put Severus out of Poppy's mind and she's still trying pretty hard. Wonder if Minerva will believe that she just wants to be Severus' friend.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
:-) Glad that made you smile. Severus is dealing with an abstract possibility at the moment. We'll see how he continues to deal with it! ;-)Nope, Quin got Severus out of Poppy's mind pretty much for the length of time that he was with her -- it didn't stick! Thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed the chapter. :-)
Hi!Thanks for updating, this chapter was just what I needed, after this terrible week.Aww, Poppy and Severus are just so cute!! I really do love them together And I think they are already acting like a couple, that loves each other very much. When does he finally start wooing her?? I can't wait.Hope you'll update soon, I'm looking forward of reading something new about Gertrude. Another stunning character you've invented. Good job!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Thanks,
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought I'd update a little early, since people have had to wait for updates recently, particularly the week that I posted the Remus Lupin ficlet, when I think I didn't post a chapter of LVS at all.I'm sorry you had a bad week, but I'm glad that the chapter helped a little!Severus has already embarked upon his version of "wooing" by bringing her Florentines & nuts -- and trying not to be overtly jealous of Quin! We'll see more, though! I'm glad you enjoy the Severus-Poppy interaction in this chapter. Thanks!Yes, you'll see Gertrude in the upcoming chapter. Hope you like it!Thank you for your review! I hope that next week goes better for you!
Although I enjoy this story a great deal and it's predecessor as well, I must admit to a concern. Earlier I thought I read that this would be a Snape/Granger pairing. Now it seems to be a Snape/Pomfrey pairing. Am I in error about the ultimate goal of this story? Please address this issue even though I believe you already did during the Gareth/Severus chapters. Thank you for not being afraid to take the time to tell the story properly. A truly good story can't be slammed together in 5 or 6 chapters without leaving loose ends unraveling in every direction. Keep writing.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
I'm not sure why you think it's a Granger/Snape story. It's not in Potions Under Duress, first off, and Hermione's also been a peripheral character from the beginning. In addition, they have broken things off twice before they ever got off the ground. I billed it as a Snape-centric fic, and we are following him and his various adventures during the first post-war year. I'm unsure why exactly that would be concerning, but I'm glad you're enjoying it. I think if it were a straight-forward fluffy romance, between whatever pair, I could do a nice little fic in five or six chapters, but as you point out, to do a really good in-depth story generally takes far more chapters. And I like to have a lot of texture and background in my fics, as you've likely noticed! In a sense, it's a Severus - Minerva fic, as DD was, at least in one strand of it. It's just not a romantic pairing between them. If there were a category on TPP for SSMM, I might very well put it there, with the caveat that it's not a romantic relationship. As to who will and will not end up together (other than pointing out that it's not SSHG, although they remain friends), stay tuned! :-)Thank you for your review!
Such nice background about Quin's time outside the magical world and his relationship with Minerva. I'm with Poppy I can't quite see her at an amusement park, but I'd love to (LOL) Also I love that she was the one to encourage Quinn that I can totally see. It really brings so much to your work that you take the time and imagination to add all these
Awww Minerva likes to talk to Poppy or Gertrude. (more lovely details) I'm so happy you've reminded us of Minerva's friendship with Gertrude. You created and developed that so well in RaM.
Oh Poppy, trying to not to think about a certain Potions Professor, maybe? It's easy to see the attraction to Quin especially if they dated before, but I somehow don't think it'll be quite that easy to replace him in your heart. Ah so he helped her get over someone before....uh oh... oh so they didn't have sex back then... hmmm...and Poppy's still feeling a bit guilty maybe... another multi-layered relationship. (but I hope Poppy's little tryst doesn't upset Severus - hopefully he won't find out - and he did almost do exactly the same thing himself)
More fantastic detail about Constantinople and flying carpets and ...Wow... that's some kiss down at the gates. Poppy... Poppy... Poppy...
Don't knwo where you're going to take things from here and that's why I love your stories.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Poppy is, indeed, trying to distract herself and convince herself that the fling with Severus was just a fling, not at all serious and easy to get over. (haha) Of course, there is a bit of a difference between Severus w/ Helena & Poppy w/ Quin. Other than the fact that Severus never got any "satisfaction," LOL! Severus and Helena are fairly new acquaintances, and Poppy & Quin have known each other for decades. Poor Severus, though . . .I'm glad you liked the various details about their lives and histories. Thanks very much for the review! I'm glad you're still enjoying the story! :-)
Yikes, ol' Bella is as creepy when she's completely off her rocker when she's only half-mad. Why on earth has she decided that Severus is Voldy reincarnated? Crazy as she is, there must be some reason for it.Security seems very tight, but it still seems like a bad idea to keep all the Death Eaters incarcerated all in one place. Too much opportunity, I'd think. And why do I feel suspicious of Madam Macmillan? She seems shifty.I suppose I should feel suspicious of Lucius, too. I can attribute selish motives for asking Severus to look after his wife and son, but I can't think of any self-interested reason why he'd want Severus to make sure the muggle who saved him is okay. Can we hope that redemption is really possible for Lucius? I think I'd like that.Loved the way you ended the chapter, with Severus desperate to get to Poppy and Poppy so relieved to see him home. Wrapped up in a sweet hug. I feel all warm and snuggly now, what a great way to end the day!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Creepy Bella -- glad you found her even creepier here! All the DEs aren't in one place. This is just for prisoners with medical needs of some kind. The population is pretty small, and although there are a few long-term patients like Bella, it's becoming more dynamic and fluid, since the DEs who recovered sufficiently were removed to one of the Ministry's new prisons. Hyatt Crabbe was back again for his "nuts," though, so some do have to return occasionally if they require in-patient treatment again. (Remember what Poppy said about him to Severus at the Merlin Awards dinner.) Lucius hasn't been there before, since he just had out-patient treatment at St. Mungo's before. (Once he'd been discharged and sent to live in the house in Leeds.)Madam Framingham doesn't like the nosy Macmillan, so that could be part of your aversion to her. I think that Lucius has a genuine appreciation for the Muggle. Remember that when he was captured by the Dark Lord and tortured daily, even his former "friends" stood by and either joined in or did nothing. So this close encounter with death was very affecting for him. Whether he can extrapolate from the one Muggle to changing his attitude toward the Muggle world in general, we may never know! But he is becoming far less wrapped up in himself, and now that his blood purity isn't getting him anything, he is beginning to value other things in his life more. So perhaps redemption might be possible even for him. :-)Glad you liked the end of the chapter and that it ended your day on a warm, snuggly note! :-)Thanks for the review!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Oh, and back to Bella -- if you get beyond her general creepiness and dislocation from reality, she does seem to base her wild belief on the fact that Severus was supposed to be dead, but isn't. So in her mind, his "coming back to life" coincides with what she thinks is Voldy come back for her. She doesn't have much else to hold onto, except the unshakeable conviction that Voldy couldn't/wouldn't die, and he would return for her someday, too.
Response from Riposto (Reviewer)
I think Madam Macmillan seemed suspicious because of the way she wouldn't look directly at Severus and Draco, and because she supposedly is good with the DE patients even works overtime, but we only see her being neglectful or incompetent. But perhaps that's because we see her from Severus's POV?
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
I don't know as she was neglectful, though she certainly was paying attention to things that were not her job to tend to -- haven't we all had co-workers who love to stick their noses in places where they know nothing, can be of no help, and are trying to tell others how to do things? lol! As for shutting up Bella and getting her to take her potion, that was a tough task. Like Henry Butterworth said, Bella was due for an outburst, 'cause she was quiet all day.
Dear, MMADfanFirst of all, let me just put it out there that you and this story are AMAZING!! Bravo. LOVE, LOVE it. There is not many Poppy Pomfrey fanfics out there and you created a beautiful one. I adore Severus and Poppy's realtionship. I do hope that you will marry them soon and I hope the do have children in the near future. Please? Anyways this brings me to my next point. When is the near future???? WHEN WILL YOU UPDATE! DID YOU FALL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH? Let me just clarify that you have a very devoted and emotionally attached reader here, that read this story, fully, in ONE DAY- I GOT SERIOUSLY ADDICTED-, that is very frustrated. Listen, I realize that a work of this quality takes time to write- again bravo- but- I've- Been- Waiting- Months. My other obsessions such as lesser fanfiction and Downton Abbey can only hold me off for so much longer before I go mad!. Again, this story is incredible but BOOOOOOO on this long time no see deal. The point of this review is not only to praise you but to hopefully motivate you to update soon. YOU HAVE AT LEAST ONE DEVOTED READER HERE!(probably hundreds more too). PLEASE update again soon, I am begging you.Love,Your completley devoted and crazy reader
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Thankfully, gravity is still working (no Agravitas spells cast around here!), and I've not fallen off the face of the earth. I agree to the BOOO -- life has been much too filled with one difficulty after another over the last several months for me to be able to stir up the energy needed to write (or even carve out the time for it). Fortunately, it looks as though things are beginning to stabilize & I'm hoping to get back to writing, as I enjoy it and miss it.I'm glad you love the story! Although I had opened up my draft of LVS yesterday, looking it over in anticipation of working on a new chapter this weekend, it is good to know that there are still folks who are looking forward to reading the story and who have not forgotten Severus & Poppy.Have you read "Heat"? That is an SSPP one-shot that I wrote some time ago, but if you enjoy the couple together, you might like that one -- it's NOT set in the same universe as LVS. (Writing that story made me really appreciate the pairing and want to write them into a longer one).If you haven't read Death's Dominion yet, you might want to read that. It's set just before LVS, and although Severus & Poppy aren't a couple yet, there are several scenes set with them together, and you get a glimpse of their pre-relationship relationship. It's also the fic that I think is my best written -- and although it's a good deal "darker" than LVS, you already have the advantage of knowing that all turns out well for them both. After Death's Dominion, you might want to read "Enter, Peacetime," if you haven't, since that has a good deal of Poppy in it, and it tells of Severus's return to Hogwarts immediately after the battle. (It's a one-shot.)Since you're "PPFan," I have a couple other one-shot fics that feature Poppy, though they aren't set during the later time period. Both are, however, set in the same universe as A Long Vernal Season: "Now is Perfect" (Filius & Pomona, but Poppy is in it throughout), and "The Cornish Pixie Prank," which is set in the 70s. Poppy's the main character in that one.If you feel like moving beyond Poppy and Poppy & Severus, you might try Charming the Scottish Garden, which is a Johannes/Siofre story, but which contains tons of references to things relevant to LVS -- including Eileen Prince and her father, Drusus. There's a good deal of Malcolm McGonagall in it, too, and you may enjoy him (it's set before Malcolm and Gertrude marry and have Gareth, however -- though we see Malcolm & Gertrude together a fair amount). I think you'd actually enjoy CSG since it's got the same "flavor" of much of LVS.If you haven't read "The Sorting of Suzie Sefton" yet, that does have both Severus & Poppy in it, and is set, of course, at the beginning of the school year from LVS. It's short and light -- I think 4 chapters -- but you might find it fun. Then there's "Draco's Heart." Even if you're not a Draco/Ginny fan (which I can totally understand), you'll still find that, because it's set during the LVS school year, it is closely related to the events in that, and both Poppy & Severus appear in it. And it's actually set after the Easter holiday, so you get a bit of a sneak peek at Severus & Poppy of the "future"! I know that none of these are substitutes for the next chapters of LVS, but they might help to fend off madness until the next chapter is posted! I'd hate to have you go mad before you got to read the next installment! I'm very glad that you enjoy LVS and SSPP so much! I hope to be able to feed your desire for a new chapter very soon! Knowing that there are folks still enjoying the story and looking forward to updates does encourage me! Thanks for letting me know.

I hope Severus finds the muggle. A whole new outlook for Lucius!Very good. I enjoyed reading more about the Malfoy family.

. Glad you enjoyed the Malfoy aspect of the chapter.Thank you for your review! :-)
I don't know who was more happy for Severus to reach home ... him or me. I'm sure he would have won but I actually felt a sense of relief when he stepped into Poppy's arms. awww. I'm glad Minerva made a discreet exit. The outburst of Bella was intense and scary. She's one fried brain and she should be put out of her misery. A quick Avada Kedavra should do it for her. I'm sure if she turned into a ghost, though, it would be horrible for the living. eeep.Draco buying sweets for a muggle girl and a Weasley ... my how the world has changed. tee hee. Thanks for the update. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Severus certainly did have a very trying evening, didn't he? And the culmination of his visit was deeply disturbing for him, to say the least -- Bella certainly is one fried brain, as you say. And having her ghost haunting anyone would be pretty horrific, certainly.Yep, Draco, appreciating a Muggle-born & a Muggle-lover! LOL! Guess maybe he is a "new man"! :DThanks for the review! I hope to post the next chapter next Sunday -- perhaps a bit earlier this time!Cheers! ;-)
I think I'm finally within 10 chapters. Though when I'm all caught up I'll have to wait between chapters. ;)
The attacks are troubling and I can't wait to see where you're going with them. I hope Severus doesn't get hurt before the person(s) is caught.
I'm so happy Minerva is telling him to woo Poppy. I really like that idea.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Yes, that waiting between chapters will be a definite downside to having caught up! Eeep! lolI'm glad you liked it! Thanks! And thanks for all your reviews! :-)
"He loved Poppy too much to have a meaningless tryst with someone else without first trying to save what they might have together. He loved her. He really did. It wasn’t merely the product of his physical passion for her. He loved Poppy . . . "
YAY!!!! My little heart is happy!
"He hadn’t even had any anonymous hate mail in months, " That's so sad. I know it's completely understandable - it's just that phrase really hit me.
Poppy's out herself is she. Trying to get her mind off of Severus I guess...but Albus thinks' she'd be better with someone else. (I have hope for his matchmaking yet... maybe - He's hard to read. He can always surprise me.)
Very steamy play time for Albus indeed =) I love their little fight over each leaving the otherh to deal with Severus. Very fun!
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Yay! I'm glad your little heart is happy! :-) Yep, Severus is waking up!It is sad, the anonymous hate mail, and how matter of fact he is about having received it at all.Poppy, trying to get her mind off Severus, indeed. And it may work . . . for a while, anyway! We shall see! ;-)Oh, Albus, Albus, Albus . . . his matchmaking might be a bit poorly orchestrated, but it's at least a good match, and well-intentioned. ;-)Yep, playtime for Albus -- glad you liked that little tussle they had! haha! Thanks for the review!
Uh oh, he's offering to carry her bags. Where will this lead? LOL And a late night broomstick flight. Wondering where this is going... (I really love the explanation about the Thunderbold and the core and intent... as always with your magical discusssions, I feel that I've learned something - that I could actually apply some how. Don't ask me how? LOL)
Poor Helena, must have been awful for her not to be able to stop Victor's death. Your original characters are so amazingly well layered. Smart of Severus to draft her into the counseling program.
Oh oh tings are getting decidedly more than friendly. (insert head shake here) Helena pulling back... wow this is indeed a development. Severus can certainly use more friends, but he does seem to be much more sexual with his 'friends' than most. Perhaps he needs a real friend.

"as always with your magical discusssions, I feel that I've learned something - that I could actually apply some how. Don't ask me how? LOL"Haha! That's good -- yes, I'm with you -- interesting details, but I'm not exactly sure how one would apply the knowledge in everyday life! lolYes, Severus, once he stopped separating sex from affection, now has difficulty doing the opposite! But he's learning & coming around. (It was a rather heady evening for him -- for them both, really -- and a moment hard to resist.)Glad you liked it!
Wow, Severus certainly is having quite the self-pity party and getting a bit of his own medicine dished back at him from Hermione. He is however learning what it's like to be on the receiving end and really thinking about things so that's good.
Hagrid levitating the chair over the heads of the other staff is too funny as are their reactions. Wonderful detail.
Hermione and Severus's conversation shows so much about where each of their feelings are. I'm glad he talked about his concern for Arthur. Someone needs to help him out.
I like that Wilhelmina and Hagrid are still seeing each other. :) Drunken Filius is funny. Getting a bit of his own back for getting everyone else drunk the other night.
I wondered if the Malcom in Malcom's Song was Minerva's brother. Awwww... so much amazing detail that you weave into these stories. Really makes them so wonderful to read. Thank you.
I like Helena and she seems to take Severus' demeanor in stride. Interesting development. (though I'm still rooting for Poppy ;) )
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
He is very used to things not going his way, and of course, he is in the midst of feeling sorry for himself and as though he will never have any friends, yada yada, when Filius practically jumps up and down trying to get his attention, glad to have him there. But Severus hardly notices . . . *sigh* Yeah, Hermione and Severus still aren't communicating well, and Severus is certainly feeling the sting of her attitude toward him.Well, Wilhelmina & Hagrid have started seeing each other again. I'm glad you like that! :-)Yeah, Filius is certainly getting his own back, as you say!Yep, that's one of Malcolm's songs, as in Malcolm McG. It's one of the ones he sang to Gertrude that evening on the cliffs when they first met, just a bit of trivia from the unposted backstory! haha!Helena's a good witch, and she's both an outsider and an insider, in that she's of the wizarding world, but she's new to Hogwarts and to Severus, so she doesn't have a lot of preconceived ideas about him. It makes it fun to write their interactions.Glad you enjoyed the chapter. :-)
I'm glad Poppy's still rethinking her decision.
Albus, still trying to play matchmaker. That's bound to blow up at some point. Though he does know about Delancie's and does seem to enjoy the reaction he gets from Severus on the subject of Poppy. I can't tell exactly what Albus has cooked up though. Is he trying to set Severus up with Poppy or with someone else. (hmmmm... will have to wait and see.)
It's good that Severus is going out with the other staff though.
Another good chapter.
Response from MMADfan (Author of A Long Vernal Season)
Ever since he noticed Severus and Poppy at Flitwick's little party, Albus has had an inkling that they might make a nice couple. He has no idea, of course, that they have been involved in any way. LOL! Yeah, he was not unhappy with Severus's reaction. Seemed to confirm to him that Severus liked Poppy, since he was the only witch about whom he said *she* would not be interested but without saying that *he* was not. And that he was particularly irritated seemed a positive sign to Albus, too! haha! Yep, silly wizard. He doesn't know what he's messing with . . .I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! Thanks for the review!
