Reviews for Hilltop Cottage
Can't wait!
I loved his musings on his own, especially about Lily. I really think he'd have realized all of that and it would have been more guilt than love by the point he was at.
OK, that made little sense, but it's kind of late. You get my drift... hopefully.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
YES, I totally get what you meant. I always thought that his feelings for Lily were Guilt rather than LOVE.
I feel so sorry for him that he has decided she is his first friend, but I'm glad they have found each other. The Chinese Food sounds good.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Well, now he has the time for a friend. During the war, he couldn't really trust anyone - not even Dumbledore.
I just love this story! The emotions are all right for their situation. They are a bit nervous, as they should be when embarking on a relationship which is very important to them. But they have fallen into a nice friendship which is bound to be a solid base for something more. There are no extreme emotions, and it feels very realistic. I married young and so have not had the experience of adult dating (thank God!) but this feels exactly how I think it ought to go. I am looking very forward to the point when this story well and truly earns it's rating, but, slow and steady wins the race as they say. I think the garden issue might win her some points. Hopefully he pays her back well ;)

Thank you so much. I really wanted to write something that felt real, although we do drift into the realms of Wizarding Britain later on, which is probably inevitable I think.
Yeah, a date!

I know... sweet, isn't it? lol... Think it will go to plan? Nah, me either!
I am glad she wants to share her garden with him. What a nice chapter to read on this rather dismal day. Thank you for the update! *Looks around for the chinese take-out menu!*

lol... I'm ruining diets everywhere!
A really lovely chapter. I'm so glad I read it after my dinner, which included a wonderful Indian style roast chicken from the take-away place at the top of our street.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
mmmm... I miss a good Indian take away. Yum!
Nice chapter! How sweet of her to make a place for him in her garden! I can't wait to see how he reacts! :)
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Glad you're reading, thanks for the review x
And such a nice flame it is. Can I be the frog that catch the moth? Because he must the most delicious moth I've ever see... or tasted *wink*I'm glad they are going along so well. I'm sure they'll have a wonderful friendship and, given time, a bit more.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Yes. More than a bit more, I imagine. Won't be long before the next chapter is up x
Very good so far! Drunk!Hermione is hilarious! I loved the interactions between her and Severus and I loved the scene when he found the newspapers... omens of things to come! :)

Hey! I haven't read the chapter yet. I will read it tonight in front of the fire with a nice vodka on the rocks with a lemon twist. I can't wait. What a great way to end the week. Cheers.

That sounds like a great plan. So tell me, what did you think?
Aw, it was almost like a quiet night between flames, a... er, friends! It was cute that he came back with a hangover potion.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
lol.. the sparks will be flying before long, don't worry!
Yay! He brought her hangover potion. They do seem to have some things in common. I hope they can help each other. I can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Drinking and Potions are always a good starting point! Next chapter is in queue!
This is very good. I like reading about what is going on in their heads.

lol.. hope you're enjoying it...
Men with camera's,,,pfft! They all want to take pictures of us when we pass out...my husband thinks it's hilarious. Lovely story and we are starting to see that little bit of break in the "professor and student" relationship. Carry on
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Thanks! I will. Next chapter is queued. And men... meh. They're just NOT funny! Except after a bottle of expensive wine!
Response from sregner (Reviewer)
Well....there is that
Thanks for another excellent chapter! I'm really looking forward to more of this. They've got me giggling for sure!
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Thanks! They make me laugh too... it gets very messy very quickly, as you can probably imagine!
Ohhh. First of all, Hermione being an Extreme Makeover fan is hilarious. That show truly is a guilty pleasure, LOL! And the last line is perfection. Just beautiful.

Thank you so much,

. I just figure that Hermione is a normal person most of the time!
I really liked that. And I like that he keeps coming back.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
lol... he won't be able to leave her alone now, I think!
Loved it! I loved that she got drunk and he found those newspapers. And I totally love that she's his flame and he's the moth.
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Bless you! I love it too!
Yay, action here we come! Well, maybe not that kind of action yet, but they are making progress. Really liked this chapter. Wouldn't Snape absolutely hate Ty Pennington! I love that they didn't have to have much conversation, but could sit comfortably and watch TV while drinking wine. The Snape of her school days would have probably left her on the floor, and definitely would not have come back the next day with a hangover potion. Apparently, he found her drunken giggle fit more endearing than annoying. Need more story quickly please!
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
I tried to think, if this was me, and a guy I knew called around with wine, what would we do? Watch Extreme Makeover, of course! lol... and yes, he really would hate Ty!
Awesome! This chapter is the perfect blend of thoughts carrying the thinkers to the destination each wanted. I was delighted when Severus thought of her as a flame to his moth. Yes, she is his flame, and something tells me that instead of drawing him to self destruction, she will be the candle to light his way... and he will light hers.I loved seeing Hermione getting tipsy enough to break out in giggles the night before, and I'm so thrilled that Severus came back to bring her a hangover potion. Yes!!! Now I hope she will show him the garden she is working on. How great would it be for the two of them to work together on a garden?!?! Together they could create a lovely potions garden and build a solid foundation for their friendship... and more. 8^) They could build some wonderful memories to keep the cold at bay on a lonely night. I adore this story and was thrilled to see you had updated it!!! I had checked the other site earlier in the day and didn't see an update, so when I found you here, I couldn't believe my good fortune! Thank you for sharing this marvelous story!*Hugs you* Beth
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
Thank you so much for a lovely review, Beth. The garden does play a part, actually. Watch this (green) space.
A moth to her flame? I understand the attraction but isn't it nearly always fatal for the moth? And the flame couldn't care less about the moth...
Response from neelix (Author of Hilltop Cottage)
I think he feels that being involved with her in any way is probably not good for him. Good point though, perhaps not the best phrase to use!
Response from mikimoto (Reviewer)
Actually, I think it is an excellent phrase. It captures that compulsion that over-rides our reason. A moth can only answer "because" when you ask him "why?" He has no other reason. Whether or not all of the accompanying characteristics are true about Hermione (that she is uncaring, that she will hurt him in the end) isn't relevent because this is how Snape feels; it doesn't need to reflect reality. And really, how often do feelings actually reflect reality?
