A canon compliant version of the last fourteen years in the life of Severus Snape. Canon compliant but with one important difference: in this story, Severus Snape has a friend. A friend who offers him her hand in the dark and will stay by his side until the bitter end.

Very well done. I liked the honesty at the end; it does hurt to know that even when you dedicate your life to someone that they still have someone from the past taking their thoughts and having such a grip. But as you say, they are the person they are because of that ghost. Love is a strange thing. Great chapter

Love is a strange thing indeed. It was, of course, very hard for Morgaine to see that Severus still held Lily in his heart. And it must hurt her deeply. But she loves Severus too much to make him change.Glad you liked the chapter. /M

Blimey! That was awesome; these chapters get better and better. Their despair was captured so brilliantly, and their love (whether Snape will ever admit it) is just this incredible vein running through it... amazing.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Thank you very much. It's hard times for the two. And as much as Morgaine wants to be there for Severus, she cannot be expected to take all his abuse.Keep your fingers crossed.Cheers. /M

Rather an unpleasant chapter... not the writing, but the plot. Excellent chapter.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Yes, the story is getting darker as the Dark Lord approaches. Some of these chapters were rather hard to write.Glad you're still with me and enjoying this. /M

OMG..This is such a short chapter. I adore this story. I sit and wait for the updates LOL.So Albus feels he lost Morgaine's trust years ago, I'm not surprised. He's so manipulative.Very well written.

This is a wonderful chapter, but so sad. My throat was tight after reading it.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Thank you for your kind words. It is a sad and lonely time in Severus' life. I'm glad I managed to get that across. Thanks for leaving a note. /M

Augh! Could you have made that any more sad? I've always thought it would be fascinating to follow Severus through his Headmastership. I don't doubt that you've enumerated exactly what went on between him and the faculty. I'm sure this was the time in his life that he felt the most alone. It's good that Dumbledore tells Severus that Morgaine still trusts him. I'm not quite sure he'll believe it though. The old man deserved the yelling at he got from Severus.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Would we have survived 'more sad'? This chaper - and the next ones - were very hard to write. My beta suggested that Severus should throw some paint remover at Dumbledore's portrait ;-)Thank you - as always - for reading and leaving a note. /M

That was quite heartbreaking. I think it was nice that Severus paid his last respects to Dumbledore, even though Dumbly didn't deserve it. I hope Morgaine comes to the truth, whether it matters or not. Well, I'm sure she will eventually, but just how long it will take is the question. Poor Snape, destined to a life of self loathing.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
It's tragic, isn't it. Snape is such an intelligent man. One would think that he should be able to understand how many good things he has done.As for Morgaine: she'll understand in time.Thank you very much for reading and reviewing. Feels great to have such a faithful reader.Cheers. /M

You had me bawling through that whole chapter. I wish he hadn't incinerated his letter, it was so beautiful. Reading this from Severus' point of view was so much more heartbreaking than reading it from Harry's. I think you captured his hatred of Dumbledore at the 'death' moment well. Dumbledore deserved every bit of it. It hadn't really occurred to me until you wrote it, but Severus wasn't given a choice whether or not to kill Dumbly, Dumbledore just told him what would happen. Yet another manipulative act in the life of Albus Dumbledore.

.When I read D's death scene for the first time, I actually cried. Not for Dumbledore, but for Severus. Because he never had a choice. The next chapter is in the quueue, so stay tuned. Thanks again, both for reading and for leaving a note. /M
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
I actually cried for both, for DH hadn't come out yet and I didn't realize just how horrid Dumbledore really was. I never thought that Severus was bad, he's always been my favorite. Now when I read HPB, I don't even feel sorry for Dumbledore, but I always cry for Severus. It's the culmination of a life directed by two psychos who have destroyed anything happy that he might have had.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)

Well, that was heartbreaking. I loved that last line. You're doing a good job weaving Morgaine into canon plot seamlessly.Yay, I finally caught up!

Wow, awesome chapter. Can you kill Dumbledore off now, please? Yes, I know, war, war, war, casualties are to be expected, but give me a break! He knew exactly what was going to happen. He set them up.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Let's kill Dumbledore!! heheThe defeat of the Dark Lord has always been his ultimate goal, he'd step over corpses to achieve it. The question is: does the goal always justify the means?
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
I honestly don't think it does. But that's just me.

Wow, an actual apology. And yet, he's still a mess. If she would just tell him, maybe he could be somewhat normal.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
My beta called Severus a 'spoilt, self-centered brat'. It's not easy for him. He's so scared of rejection. And yes, Morgaine should tell him. Looks like they are both too scared.

‘I do not deserve being taken care of,’ he responded in a bitter tone. ‘I am back in the fold. Your Boggart has come alive. You should despise me.’Oh Gads, you made me cry! I can't quite figure out Dumbly's motives here. Does he want Voldy to know about Morgaine? Is he happy about Severus letting Voldy see those memories. I think he is and it's part of some big convoluted plan.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Crying at chapter 25 already? Ojoj... I am, however, very glad that I managed to get the emotions across. And Dumbledore, well, let's just say the man has a plan...

Typical Dumbledore. Hiding the truth for some unbeknownst reason. That man needs a good hex in the butt. Severus really needs to realize what he has in Morgaine and stop being so worried about rejection.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
You'd think Severus was intelligent enough to understand that he has a true friend there. Poor man, so scarred, so scared. :-(

You go Lupin! Tell that dunderhead off! I was going to comment that Snape was becoming a self fulfilling prophecy, but he finally snapped out of it. That was a great apology from him. Very typically Snape.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
Lupin rocks! I never liked the way he's portrayed in teh books, so wimpy. And as I like him a lot, I gave him the guts to tell Severus off. Had a lot of fun writing it, too. /M

Excellent. He needs to remember that Sirius, in his animagus form got between the transformed Lupin and the four of them standing there. So Sirius DID in actual fact redeem his actions of so many years before. He drew off the werewolf to keep the others safe. Not much, I'll grant you, but at least some redemption. You wrote this very well. Thanks for updating so fast. Keep going. A+

Seeing how stubborn dear Severus is when it comes to the Marauders, I don't think he'd give Sirius any plus points. Ever.Thank you for the review, Kyria, and for being such a faithful reader. The next chapter is already in the queue.Cheers. /M

Very good. I like the way you are writing Lupin. He was the best of the Marauders. I personally feel the map was mostly his work. Sirius and James were too flippant to have done that kind of precise spell work. It had to be Lupin's work. He was the brightest and the best of them. This is a lovely chapter. I'm glad Lupin is talking back to Severus. They would be much better off as friends and colleagues, their intellects are well matched. Thanks for an enjoyable read.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Morgaine's Story)
I totally agree with you. Lupin was the best of the Marauders.I never liked the way he was treated in the books. As if his life had not been hard enough being a werewolf. No, let him take care of Sirius and James also. Grrr! There are those who say that he was just as bad as Sirius and James since he never stood up against them (for ex. the episode by the lake). But who can blame him? How can anyone expect him to alienate the only friends he had to help a Slytherin boy?Oh, sorry for the little pro-Lupin outburst. I do like him a lot. And I promise that he will make a re-appearance in the story. Thanks for your lovely comment. Cheers. /M
