It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

Reviews for The Price of Madness
Yay! I'm so excited! I'm famous and on Pook's chapter! Teehee.**boldly encourages pook some more**I loved it. I'm such a sucker for a "rough" snog. You know, the kind that knocks a bit of sense into us.:)Great chapter.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol! I am a fan of the rough snog as well, and Hermione certainly needed some sense knocked into her! I meant what I said. You are a huge encouragement to me, and it was past time I said so in a mushy and public manner. You rock! I thank you, and Severus wants you to take off your bra. ;)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
*Tosses lacy, sexy, black, satiny, velvety, sexy bra to Snape*Hahaha! Sounds like one of those descriptions in my silly "Sands" stories. Teehee!Happy Birthday!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Woot! Severus secretly adores the tales in the Sands stories. He's just too much of a prig to admit it! :D
Haven't read it yet, but wanted to 'pre-squee' !
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
and
Happy Birthday, Pook !!!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, love! I plan to have a big fun birthday! :D
Oh, this is SO absolutely BRILLIANT!!! I can't wait for the next chapter!! Severus is not only cracking me up with calling everyone whores - but also breaking my heart!! I just want to reach out and hug him and make sure he's alright! Stupid Hermione for thinking she's expendable!! That would devastate Severus!!!! Great job! Please update soon!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you are enjoying it so far! You've hit the nail on the head with how I'm trying to do the tone. Serious, yes, but with enough humor that it doesn't turn dreadful. I'll tell you a secret. I'm about to post the next chapter! Hope you like it! Thanks! :)
This fic is exeptional. It is fun, adventurous and wildly funny. I love the "whore" bit even though I don't rightly understand it. Fantastic. I'm sorry I haven't reviewed yet, I've been so caught up reading your wonderful work! Five stars for you!
AAAAAARRRRGGG!we loves it we do. please continue.great characterization, heartbreaking...
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you! More soon, promise! :)
Finally! I have been wondering for a while if I was missing out on updates for this, thank goodness it was the only one. I hope you managed to raise a lot of money for the furries, if I had of known sooner, I'd have donated before giving towards the Australian "Million Paws Walk", though, both benefit the same furries. This was a wonderful chapter Pooka, I could have slapped Dobby though. LoL. Oh to be Hermione, all snuggled up with Severus.I hope you update soon Pooka. It's the perfect fic to get me back into the swing of things.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
The readers of this fic raised 150 bucks for my furry friends! I'm glad you gave to the Australian one, we all have to help the critters. Thanks! :)
Wow, what a cliffhanger ending! Man, what happened to Hermione and the cup...was Severus watching her? And what answer is he trying to find before his madness consumes him? Great chapter with Harry and Hermione interactions...I'm glad Harry is being supportive of Hermione's feelings for Snape; very mature! I can definately tell Harry has grown up because he tries to see the issue from Hermione's and Ron's perspectives and then counsels each one. Would the real Harry have done that in the HP books? I'm not so sure...that's why I love the why you portray the Trio in this story. And poor Severus actually being aware of himself and his illness...such rare moments of lucidity must break Hermione's heart now that she has accepted her feelings for Snape...ah, love in a time of such great adversity! Hope they can overcome it! Thanks Pooka!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I think that Harry is a very kind young man, when his temper hasn't gotten the best of him. There were certainly times in the HP books when Harry wanted to help Ron and Hermione, but he just didn't know how to go about it. Now that he's left school and doing Order business, I decided to give him a bit more confidence about such things. I'm trying to let tham all be a bit more grown up without making them unrecognisable. I'm so glad that you are enjoying them! Thanks for reading and thanks for the kind review! :)
i hope severus gets better soon
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Maybe not soon, but I promise he'll get a bit better! Thanks! :)
Response from harrypotterfan2005 (Reviewer)
good am glad
Why did you stop there ? Now I'll wonder who that shape is, though my bet would be on Severus. However, I'm known to be wrong sometimes...update soon please !
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Is it Severus or a whole herd of galloping Death Eaters? I bet you know the answer to that. ;) More soon, i hope! Thanks! :)
Reaching up to snag Hermione’s arm off the back of the sofa, Severus then cradled it to his chest. With a sigh, he drifted back to sleep.
heeheehee! Mad indeed.
I am also well aware that his chances of recovery lie somewhere between zero and none. But you try and tell that to my heart, Harry. You go ahead and try, because the blasted thing won’t listen to me!
I believe that is the most intense line in the entire chapter. I hope that she, Harry and everybody else are wrong about that, but it does set it up to be an intersting life, should she choose to accept it.
However, "I’m a doomed man if I can’t find the answer," makes me think that there might be hope for him yet. It makes me think there is a correlation between his madness, Dumbledore's evasion and various other weird things that could end up equalling a whole Severus by the end.
Completely gripping job, Pook! I'm with everyone else who's begging you for more. 'Ask and you shall receive' is my motto, and if the receiving requires bribery, then so be it.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
You are such a sweetheart! I promise that there will be another chapter as soon as I can get it written. I'm just glad to be able to write again. Writer's block is scary, you never know how long it's going to last! That bit with Hermione's arm made me snicker. Sure he's mad, but he's still a Slytherin! I'm glad you thought that Hermione's line was intense and not too corny. I was a bit afraid that I had gone too far with it. As for Severus' "answer" I promise you two things. There will eventually be lemons, and Hermione would never get jiggy with someone who is so mentally ill. So there you go! ;) Thanks, love! :)
Response from averygoodun (Reviewer)
Hermione's line could be corny, but you set the scene up so that it was emotional, but not overdone. Of course, I just like the way you phrased the last bit. 'twas funny.
YAY! Thank you, Pook! *showers you with goodwill*
Another great chapter. I wonder what happed at the end there. Cant wait for the next one.

Thank you so much! More soon, I hope! :)
Crap! Shite! At least she patched things up with Ron, to a degree. Crapola ! Snape's words to Hermione were very poignant, too. If in fact he IS losing his mind *which I doubt and will continue to raise an eyebrow to*, then it must be a very hard thing for him to come to terms with. Hmm.... intrigued!! Well written, Pook, and you've left us in suspense. Again !
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, love! Snape is mad, I tell you! Completely and utterly mad! But why, and for how long is another kettle of fish entirely! ;) Hmm... I do get a bit carried away with the cliffhangers from time to time, but they are so much fun! :D Thanks! :)
Response from HogwartsHoney (Reviewer)
*evil Pook!*
EEPS!!! EEPS!!!! Cliffhanger!! Now I still think Severus' mind and emotions can be fixed (may be after Voldyshorts dies), but who is this shape who knocked the Cup from Hermione? Is it Severus or a Death Eater? (runs off to eat chocolate to make myself feel better until Pooks posts the next chapter... write faster, so I don't overdose on choccy!)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Don't overdose! I have at least started writing the next chapter, though I haven't gotten very far yet. Hopefully I'll have the first draft done within a couple of days. Keep your fingers crossed! Thanks, June! :)
OH, my... Snape to save the day? LOL...If I break my neck to report typos, can I have my name on the page, too?~snicker~And, dang, I didn't get squees for my "most excellent" fanart.*makes bummed out face*Hehe... naughty SW in da house. Okay, I was hoping for a "normal" Snape moment where he would suddenly lean down and kiss her! *Big Grin*It'll come... I just know it!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Can a madman kiss normally? That is the question! Hey, I love your fanart! But Mel named a pic after PoM, so she gets prime squeeing rights. ;) I tell you, I LOVE my typo police! Feel free to join them if you wish. So, do you think it's Snape? *snicker* Maybe I'll have it be a whole herd of Death Eaters just to be contrary! :D Thanks Sun! :)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
Haha... Nah, Harry's wards and all that.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Oh, I suppose you're right. :D
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
*Chews nails* Not when you say it like that though. LOL... Starts pondering other possibilities.First instinct said it was Snape. Teehee. The pretty little whore is stealin' mah cup! She must pay. *Unzips pants*Hermione thinking naughtily. Yes, I suppose I must pay then. Woe, oh, woe. I've been caught. *smirks and gives access*LOLSW, the wicked witch of responses and pretend scenarios
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
HA! Damn but I wish I could write it just like that! Then we'd get some action instead of all this talking and sacrificing. Bah! Tempting as it is, I'm afraid that I can't do it. Hmm...I'll leave you with another taunting comment. Friend or foe, hermione is in a bit of trouble. ;)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
That's fricking evil, woman!Hmmm... Can still be Snape though now that I think on it. He might think her to be doing something bad. LOL. Damn it.*begs for chapter*
Have read all chapters and await more
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks! :)
I have been saving this story to read more than a chapter at a time and I was very pleased. I am curious as to why the world is full of whores to Severus though... hope that gets explained some time.As always, thank you for writing and I am eager for more :)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
As I mentioned in one of the ANs, it will be explained eventually. But not yet! I will explain no whores before their time! ;) Thank you so much! :)
Lovely new chapter Pooka! Good explanations between the Trio and Draco...its apparent that although Snape's "barking mad" he still cares a lot about Draco and other people's perceptions of him (like Harry's). So in a way he is not totally out of the loop with reality and what is going on around him...its almost like he has selective bouts of "mad-hatterness". I like how you have directed the flow of the story...can't wait to see more of Snape and Hermione's interactions now that Hermione is, for all intents and purposes, going to be Snape's "keeper". I wonder how Hermione is going to react being in such close quarters with him? Thanks!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Next chapter should give a good look at "life with Severus." *wg* Severus may have times when he simply can't cope, but he isn't schizophrenic. He knows what's real. The people I have known who have mental troubles certainly don't act mental all the time. Lol, look at psycopaths! Everyone is always saying about them, "He seemed like such a nice fellow!" Not that Severus is a psycopath, I'm just talking. At any rate, thanks for reading and thanks for the kind review! :)
kind of a transition chapter, full of interesting emotions. Glad to know ch 10 is nearly done.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Definitely a transition chapter, but we'll have some fun with the next one! Thanks! :)
Another great chapter. I am just so shocked at how easily things are going between Harry and our two Slytherins. And did you really have to tease us with the news that chapter ten is done. Any sneak peeks? I'll accept second hand info, you know! ;)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
They are all acting quite mature, aren't they? Never fear, they'll still have their moments! :DYou might be able to talk me into a sneak peek, but I warn ya, you really ought to wait until Vaughn pretties it up!Thanks, Sun! :)
I like the reasonable way they all discuss things at the table about Severus, etc. but the one part that most got me was when Severus woke up agitated and raced downstairs to see if he'd been abandoned. In his condition, that must've been fearful indeed, and I'm glad they all convinced him to stay at Grimmauld. So Draco can now get into the house himself, without standing outside and yelling "Whores!"? I hope they give Severus an alarm bracelet or something, in case an Order member stops by unexpectedly (Molly?) and sees him. I also like the way they agree to not tell Draco what a Horcrux is; very thoughtful. Thanks for keeping Snapey safe, Pooks!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I promise that I will continue to keep him safe! I'm putting him through enough as it is, I think. Yes, once Harry formally invited him into the house, Draco can see it, enter, etc. I wonder how those charms work? Can you uninvite someone, or must you re-do the spell entirely? Ah well, for this fic I made Harry re-do the spell, so I suppose that I'll stick to that. Nope, no alarm bracelet for Snape, that's no fun! But I suppose that hermione will have some thoughts on the matter. ;) Thanks, June! :)
Trollop!! lol. That Hestia was getting on my last nerve!Look forward to reading more.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Glad you liked it!
Oh, Pook, you're driving me as mad as poor old Severus was pretending to be! I can't wait for the end of this story. I don't think I've ever reviewed you before, but I've been reading since the updates first started showing up in WIKTT.
Please oh please finish soon! And also add more lemony goodness.
P.S. I looked over all the reviews to make sure that I wasn't reiterating something that had already been said, but in the first bit of the chapter you slightly misspelled Dedalus Diggle's name with Dedulus.
Please return soon!
ohh im so glad they worked it out!plz update soon, i lurvve this fic
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
yay! i am so glad that there is an update!i can't wait for more! and for snape to be up and about! *squee*
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
More coming as soon as I can manage it. Thanks! :)
The image of Severus "talking to the potted plants" is very funny. I really enjoyed his conversation with the suit of armor as well. Very funny stuff. He is very much like a "self-sufficient toddler" and the scenes with Hermione, when not making me laugh, were rather sweet. An entertaining read. It's also good to see Draco and Harry taking a more mature path than Sirius and Severus ever did. That's something I'd like to see JKR do in Book 7 (guess we'll just have to wait and see). I can't wait to see the Order's reactions.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Huh. I could have sworn that I responded to this one already. Lol, maybe I muffed it up somehow! I'm glad that you are enjoying the humor in this fic. I don't think i could write without at least a touch of humor. I'd like to see Harry and Draco working things out as well. I'll keep my fingers crossed until book 7! Thanks! :)
