It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

I'm a 53 year old woman who wrote fanfic for years and adored doing it. While I lost the heart for fanfic after book 7 came out, I am still writing, and can be found at http://julianneqjohnson.com

Oh, heavenly wonders--thank you for this chapter. It was very nice. Loving the story. Being understandingly patient for the next chapter.

I'm working on the next chapter even as we speak, so hopefully it won't be too awful long before I can update again. Thanks! :)
Cool! Great new chapter. I got the email saying it was up and as I started reading it I got another saying the next one is up.Thank you so much.

Opps. My mistake. For some reason I got 2 emails for the same chapter. Just wishful thinking, I guess! LOL!

There was a weird program burp when I uploaded. It uploaded the same chapter twice and I had to delete the spare! I swear I didn't hit refresh or anything! Thanks for reading! :)
“You look divine, trollop,” Severus said, his voice low and gravelly. “Come here.” *rolls eyes at Severus* They've got a good plan in place. I hope all goes as it is supposed to.

I imagine our heroine rolling her eyes at him quite a bit as well. XDThanks!
They were her best friends and they stuck to her through thick and thin…and Severus.Love it! She is lucky, though, to have such good, understanding friends.I am glad that it didn't take Severus and Hermione long to kiss and make up. I was relieved that she had the sense to leave him a message for when he woke up. Things are looking up ... I think.

It's been my experience that real friends stick by you, no matter who you date, or love, or marry. While it certainly can be interesting if well written, I do get sick of fics portraying Harry and Ron as complete judgemental jackasses when they find out about Hermione and Severus. Thanks for reading!
Less than 24 hrs back to sanity, and they already messing things up. Yeah, that sounds about right.
Is he really ok? Will he remember their unofficial relationship? Should I quit typing and go to the next chapter?
Wow, didn't exactly see that coming. They can't get in ... I hope he doesn't have to be successful in order to get out. Of course hard as it is for him, I'm sure he will do what he set out to do. Um, right?
Pretty soon the entire order will know what is going on! Severus is gone? What the heck? They are going to have to go around hanging up lost posters, just like when dogs wander off, lol. I do hope he was of sound mind when he left. I guess that doesn't mean he won't go all toddler while he is out. Gulp.
“Let me put you out of your misery, Bill. It’s some sort of whore, isn’t it?”
“Well, yes. How did you guess?”
Ha! As absurd as this whole whore business is, it still makes me laugh. If he regains his sanity, he will surely be horrified by it all. I was hoping Bill would know a bit more, but at least he shed a little light on things.
Noooooooooooo! I firmly told myself this would be the last chater before bed and now look what you've done. Shame on you!
A letter of credit to Gringotts? That's a splendid idea! You can't fault Hermione, Goblins are creepy.
And Severus, why does he have to make things so difficult for his little trollop? He needs to play nice or there will definitely be no more peeking in the shower. Oh, who am I kidding, she will totally peek ;)
She really does have the patience of a saint! In the end when he is trying to find another whorish name for her had me in giggle fits. Then when he stopped to visit his buddy and whispered her name, it made me sad and confused. What is going on with this guy?!?!
I'm going to call that progress, plain and simple.
Having ones hair brushed is infinitely better when done by someone else *purrs*
Interesting bit on the tower. I hope that Remus can help them out somehow, although that seems too easy for this tale, right?
I, too, found it very amusing that Severus calls everyone whores, but one little imbecile and Ron flies off the handle. Although you sort of become desensitized by the whore issue. Oh, sometimes the manner in which he uses it makes me giggle, but it just seems commonplace now.
No book, huh? This could be a long and distracting shower, indeed!
What did happen on that tower? So many questions ...
Good for Ron for jumping up and volunteering to get started. This unpredictable, whore obsessed madman still knows how to be demanding!
I just found this little gem here and I had to read all of it in one go. It's marvellous! And I am still not sure whether Severus is well and truly mad or whether he is only putting up a perfect act...

Is she upset that what he wants from her isn't what she thought? I am interested to know what sort of things he is planning to brew.
I am glad that her boys are being so understanding. She really is a lucky gal.
So now he is Severus the trouble maker, is he? Maybe it is what Hermione needed to keep her on the right path, though.
You've written insane Severus so well. I am still dying to know what is gong on with him. His madness seems to come and go and you never know with him what you are going to get
Loving this!
I agree with Hermione, the heartbreaking parts are when he seems lucid and well aware of his madness. She really is more enamoured of him than she ought to be at this point in the game, but I don't think there is anything she can do about it. Will be interesting to see why the cup was knocked from her hands. Has Severus been watching her more closely than she knows?
Hmmmm ... did I just recently say something about Ron being mature? I'm going to take it back a little bit. Of course he is a guy and we all know that combined with youth (and maybe a splash of jealousy) can equal immaturity straight away. Hermione really needs to sort out those feelings ...
I love how Kreacher has found a derogatory comment loophole and will now be jumping on the whore bandwagon.
Poor Hermione was so out of her league in the bathroom. Fortunately her embarassment and confusion, and his amusment can co-exist.
In the end when they are laughing about his dangly bits, it was sort of refreashing to see them so lighthearted. I hope it lasts.
I'm totally loving this! It is such a nice departure from the usual Snape/Hermione relationship. It's like, um, Hermione the babysitter. Up until now he has been all cute child, but no wonder he has sort of regressed as it sounds like really bad things were done to him. I'm not sure I even want to know.
I also loved your super mature Ron. I am one of the rare folks who really likes Ron a lot. Sure, it is always my goal in fanfic for Severus and Hermione to hook up, but not at the expense of Ron.
ok, gotta move on.
Well, Hermione, the nice thing to do is to offer to share your room with him. Oh, wait, he's still crazy. That puts a bit of a damper on smut and romance where I come from. Guess thats on hold then ...
Glad Snape is better, but will really miss some of the funnier parts of his madness. This really is an amazing story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I kinda miss Mad severus too. Writing him was fun! Thanks for reading!
This is Severus like we've never seen him before. It's just what the three of them need, really: a self-sufficient toddler running around the house. This ought to be good!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I admit, I had way too much fun with it. Hope you enjoy it!
