It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

Reviews for The Price of Madness
This continues to be one of my favorite stories. I rush home everyday to see if you've updated. I'm still curious about why Severus has picked the term "whores" to call everybody and now I want to know what that funky spell was. Also, after Hermione gets done at the Twig and Leaf, do you think she might pop into Leatherhead or Ear X-tacy?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Ha! I believe she prefers Grateful Threads. *giggle* There's quite a few folks wondering about the whole whore business, and all I can tell you at this point is that it will eventually be explained. I'm so glad that you are enjoying the fic! Thanks! :)
Pooka! I was so very happy to see another chapter of this fabulous fic posted. It never fails to make me laugh and it always leaves me with a big smile on my face. So, Severus is Jealous!! I love it! I think his reaction to Hermione being locked up with Harry was very comical. I can't wait to find out what type of spell he used that night on the tower! But what I can't wait for the most is more shower time with Severus!! Great work as always!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
You'll be happy to know that the shower chapter is written, and off to my lovely beta. So there won't be such a huge wait before I update again. Thanks, NQ! Your reviews have always meant a lot to me! :)
Gosh, I've waited really long to see this fick is getting to its rightfull ending that I'm so so happy that this is happening that I'm overreacting with my happiness. And I didn't wait for Polish translation of 30th chapter just read it in English though my laziness which told me to wait :P Severus is a little bit odd for me right now. I guess I didn't get use to him behaving like that but he's still a great great character. Well I like him so much that I could do anything to have him in the real life. Well, we probably would kill each other in the very first day, but having him beside me... oh that would be so so wonderful thing. Impatiently waiting for the new chapter, Jane
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you Jane! I'm thrilled that you couldn't wait for the translation!I agree that my Severus is a little odd at this point. He's neither the Snape of Hermione's school years, not the mad friend she found during this story, but sort of a whole new Severus, changed by his experiences. Thankfully, hermione seems to still like him just fine. Thanks for reading!
Oh, I just love it! A Fabulous story!
Whenever I read your take on insanity somehow I feel much saner afterwards. Does that make sense?
Where ever do you find all those quotes on insanity? Slightly disturbing, but then again understandable that there are apparently so many of them, considering some of the people that live in my city...
I'm glad you updated again and I am looking forward to the shower scene and some jealous Snape. Makes me go all tingly at the thought of it.
Grmbl. Want to be Hermione. Hmpf.
bye,
Shal
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol, I feel better about myself after I write some mad Severus as well. Where do i get the quotes? The internet is a fabulous thing. I made a small collection of madness and insanity quotes before I even started the fic, so now i just peruse them until I find one I like for each chapter. Thanks for the kind review! :)
As much as I like the 'new' Snape, Hermione remembering how he used to be, made me slightly wistful. I love how you make me both suffer and laugh with the characters.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you for that! I'm trying very hard to keep a reasonable mix of humor and sadness in this fic. Thanks! :)
I just got my whore fix! So happy to see another update - the Pensieve scene was great.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks! I'm so glad that you liked it! :)
What??? We dont get HGs POVin the shower??Great fic! ;)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Now then, hold your horses! The shower is in the next chapter! :D Thanks! :)
Damn girl. I was beginning to think this would never be updated. But...whoooo...great chapter. Can't wait for the next one. I love this story.Red
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I had a bit of trouble writing the past few weeks, but you'll be happy to know that the first draft of chapter 18 is already done! Thanks! :)
just love the story - Severus is funny and sad
very entertaining - nice to see a more mature Harry and Ron
hope you are able to update soon
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! You'll be pleased to know that the first draft of the next chapter is already done, so it shouldn't be too long before the next update. Thanks! :)
So glad that your break is over and you are back with a wonderful update! br>
Now we are coming nearer to the mystery of Severus` madness - seems it has really something to do with hiding his true loyalty, the scheming behind all. <br>
The impact on Hermione by watching the sane Severus act on the tower probably will put a stop to any further going involvement with the mad one – but we have some hope to see him in his old shape with this potion of him, don´t we?!?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
So many theories, and I simply can't say a word about any of them without letting several cats out of the bag! ;) Thanks for the kind review! :)
A jealous crazy Snape is a Snape to look out for. I agree with Harry... Ron was funny when his feathers got ruffled about the insult. It's good to see them so patient with Severus. I'm still really curious about what the potion will do. You're keeping it hush hush, so it must be good.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm trying to keep it very hush hush. You'll have to tell me whether it's good or not when we get there! Thanks! :)
YAY! An update! Oh, my Plaid little whore, how I've missed your updates on your lovely story! Please, oh please, update as soon as you can. :) It is so wonderful. Congratulations, again, on the MFA. Your story definately deserves the award. Yes, even in that category. The abuse that Severus has suffered and gone through definately qualifies, not to mention his mental status. :)
Taps fingers patiently on her desk... I'm waiting, I'm waiting. *wink*
Thank you for the update!

Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I know that this story is a little rough in spots, as I tend to mix a bit of seriousness and humor in my chaptered fics, but I've been called a fluff writer for so long that I'm still shocked about the category! ;) Not to worry, because I'm also pleased as punch about it.Thanks, Ginny! I've missed my updates too. But I seem to be writing right along now, so hopefully it won't be too long before another update. Thanks! :)
Still lovin this!!!!! What a great job and thanks so much for updating. Severus is such a puzzle . Can't wait for more Love, barb
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, Barb! I'm glad that you are getting a kick out of it! :)
*chortles with glee* I've been away for too long, but am thrilled to see both this and Pumbles updated! Am VERY interested to see what develops in the next chapter!!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, doll! More soon, I hope! :)
hahahahahahhaah......... can't stop laughing, yet again. Can't wait for shower time either *cackle* The idea of magical backlash at the tower is very original. Wow! please update soon =)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm glad that you got a kick out of it! Thanks for the kind review! :)
YAY! An update! Great chapter! I loved how it was the curse that made him ill. Severus' jealousy was brilliant. As always, looking forward to your next update!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I tell you, it's terrific to finally be getting into some of the important bits of this story. I was beginning to think it would end up being the War and Peace of fanfic, lol! But I think we are about half way through, which isn't too bad. Thanks, Christy! More soon, i hope! :)
Another great chapter. Just love it!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
Heehee! A cute chapter. Jealous fellow, eh? Muahahaha. I'd like to help with his shower if she wants to hang out with the whore's son a little longer. :)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*snicker* Get in line! I want to help him too! ;) Thanks, Sun! You are such an encouragement to me! Your posts at Potter Place really helped me get back in the saddle, writing wise. You rock! :)
Excellent chapter! I like your Tower Theory! I wonder if that spell was accidental or a way to hide information in Severus brain. Maybe something about how to destroy the Horcruxes? Very interesting! And I really want to give poor Severus a hug! It is sad to see him like this.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Severus definitely needs more hugs, poor sod. I'm glad that you thought the tower bit made sense. I was a bit worried about it. I cannot talk about the theories, but I sure like hearing what people are thinking! Thanks! :)
Wow, never thought of that - Severus' vow required him to kill Albus and one can't fool the Unbreakable Vow, so Albus really is dead. So those ingredients - are they to heal Severus? Does Severus have Albus' memories or something stored in his mind? I like your description of Draco on the Tower - frightened little boy - and hope Rowling brings that up in the next book. Would be tough for Draco to grow up near normal with a father like Lucius. Thanks for updating, Pook!!! You get to have a private shower with Severus!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Woo-hoo! A private shower with Severus is the best of prises! ;) I've always been sorry for Draco. He's just a big talking coward, really, and I thought it was pretty clear on the tower that he didn't want to kill anyone. Sure, he's still a stuck-up brat, but I feel sorry for him all the same. It's true, if Severus is alive, then Albus has to be dead. (Though I still steadfastly believe he's still alive, somehow! I hate that JKR bumped Albus off, I miss him!) Are the ingredients for Severus? We'll see...*giggle* Thanks, June! :)
Thanks, Pook. I have missed this story so much! I was deeply moved by the scene on the tower. Of course, wildly curious to know what was the spell that Severus cast at Dumbledore -- but even more, disturbed as Hermione was by the contrast between the transparent machinations of mad Severus versus the undisputed power of the whole Severus. Well, I'm a hopeless fangurl, both for *you* and for Whore-Calling-Snape -- so I am giggling with glee over Hermione's bookless state as she goes to keep Severus "safe" in the shower. What's wrong with "long and thoroughly distracting"?? You say that like it's a BAD thing!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* I've gotten about half way though the shower scene, and while it's pretty PG, it's not a bad thing at all! I'm hoping to finish it up today, so there won't be such a wait before the next update. I'm relieved that you liked the tower scene. I was a bit worried about it. It's a pretty pivital scene for this fic, and I wasn't sure what folks would think about it. You make me feel like I didn't do too badly. Thanks, love! You are such an encouragement to me! :)
Yay! An update, what a nice way to start the morning. Can't wait to see what the weird spell thing is all about. So are you going to go into more detail as to Hermione's distraction in the shower?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well, the shower scene is pretty PG, but fun all the same, so I hope you won't be too disappointed. ;) I'm so glad that you enjoyed the new chapter. Thanks! :)
So...since the madness was caused by a Spell, perhaps it's reversable (I think that's spelled wrong, but I'm unaware of how you actually spell it...). Did Severus know what the spell would do if he used it? I think that if he did, it would've taken a tremendous amount of courage to cast that spell. Poor Severus...The idea of a Jealous Severus always fills me with happiness. Weird, maybe, but true. It makes for interesting plot developments. I always want to hug him....You have no idea how happy I am you've updated. You've made my week! I was about ready to give my right arm for an update. I hope you update again very, very soon!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Since this is pretty heavily implied in the story summary, I'll answer it. Yes, Severus knew what the spell would do to him, at least somewhat. I think that Snape is not a very pleasant man, but a very brave one, so i could see him making such a sacrifice for the cause.I must say that I'm a sucker for jealous Snape myself! It just seems to fit him. I want to hug him too! Severus needs more hugs!I'm glad that you enjoyed the update, and sorry it took so long. I'm well into the next chapter, so hopefully there won't be such a long wait. Thanks! :)
*grins* More delightful little whores! Thank you, wonderous Pook, for this most enjoyable chapter. I find my mind drifting to the tower as well. Could a bit, if not all, of Dumbledore’s soul now be residing in Severus, sort of an unwilling Horcrux? Certainly that could cause madness. I can’t wait for more.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*snicker* I just can't get over the torch wielding fans smiley! Thanks, love! I'm glad that you enjoyed it! And I absolutely refuse to comment on anyone's speculation. ;) More soon, I hope! :)
