It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

I'm a 53 year old woman who wrote fanfic for years and adored doing it. While I lost the heart for fanfic after book 7 came out, I am still writing, and can be found at http://julianneqjohnson.com
You can find my published work on Amazon under the name Julianne Q Johnson.
Reviews for The Price of Madness
Wow! I started this story about a year ago (I came very late to the Fandom) and stopped it before I got past the first few chapters. I really loved the story but I hate to read WIP's. I often ran across the Price of Madness referenced on a website as being a wonderful story (and it is!), but just couldn't bear to start it and be disappointed that there wasn't an ending. I was excited to get the notice a while back that it had been updated and then another notice about another update. I will say that it was well worth the wait! I loved the dialogue and I think the plot and character interactions were very original and exciting! I have read several of your other works and I am excited this this one has been finished although I'm sad that it wasn't about 40 or 50 chapters longer!!!!!! Thank you for the lovely work!

Thank you so much for finishing this story. You've healed a hole in my fan girl heart with its completion. Brava!
Thank you, Pooka, for finishing this! I read the last three chapters earlier and now I have started to reread the story from the beginning. Still wonderful!

Thank you for such a wonderful ending!
Yaaaaaaay! I'm so glad that you've finished this story, Pook. Welcome back!
Thank you so much for giving it closure....This is definitely one of my favorite fics EVER!!!! I've never read DH, just the "Epilogue that we shall not mention" and just puked....honest....I found the HBP fairly good but lacking something, didn't know what....The pairings in DH disapointed me when I read about them...Harry and Ginny we could mostly see, but Ron and Hermione? No way...botched ending me thinks....I've had this story on my computer since 2009, WIP as it was, never thought it would be completed..Again, thankyou for this marvelous gift! Godspeed!!!!
I don't think I have enough Words to tell you how happy and Grateful I am for you to have finished this wonderful story. I almost fell off my Chair when the Notification about the story beeing finished came in my mailbox:-))
I absolutely loved it. I loved that you didn't kill off a bunch of People (especially since JKR killed off so many in such a bad and careless way), you avoiding that adds even more joy to the story for me.
When I read book 7, the dissepointment I felt was unbelivable, and I have never read it again. It took a couple of days to put it behind me, but then I used the one medicin that always Works for me: fanfics:-)) I started With a few favourrites that solved the final Battle etc in so much better ways (In Annuelo by Ladyofthemasque were a lifesaver). Then the fanfics who dealt With book 7 started to be submitted: Some ignored all the mistakes in book 7 in a brilliant way, others dealt With and found ways around the damage done in even better ways. Fanfics saved my sense for the magical world and for that I will be forever Grateful to you and other Authors that kept the world of Harry Potter alive, triving and so entertaining:-)))
How wonderful your finsihed this! What a fun read. I hope you have much success in your O-fic writings.
Many hugs.
I still haven't read the 7th book. When DH was first published, after I read everyone's reactions, I decided that fanfic would be better -- and truly, YOUR ending to the HP saga is much more satisfying and thoughtful. Details like that curious door in the department of Mysteries that appeared in the book and then never again, and Draco's storyline -- ! He's just one of many underused and underdeveloped HP characters, and it's wonderful how you've made them turn out.THANK YOU for sharing your talents and creativity with us. I'm excited to see your new stories.

Thank you, June! You've stuck by me since I first thought to myself "I wonder if I could write a story?" The kind comments I've gotten from you, and other readers, are what kept me at it. I'm so glad that I can finally put this story to rest. Not having finished it has always weighed on my mind. I wish I'd never read book 7!

Book 7's epilogue is like a very bad fanfic. I actually read the epilogue online as a spoiler, but I thought it was a joke -- that JKR would never write something so bad. A day later, the book went on sale officially and I discovered she really HAD written something that bad. I am sticking with YOU, Pooks. You write good stuff!

I love that you finished it and I love the redemption of Tom. Super, thank you. I had wondered if this would ever be finished and it delghted me to find update notifications in my inbox. Thank you
Thank you so very much for finishing your story. It has long been one of my favorites and I was disappointed that it appeared to be abandoned. The last book was a horrible mess, wasn't it?
Good to seem Ron in a strong position here. Great chapter.
I know how it feels to walk away from a long story and take four years to come back. My reasons are similar to yours. And I, too, have started mine back up again recently. Glad to see you finished this one. I love the way you used pure unconditional love to cure Tom's ills. Seems a fitting end. Now I will go back are re-read the story from the beginning and enjoy it all the more the second time around.
Finished at last, great story. I have never read book seven. I miss trusted her writing after I saw what she did in book six.
Thank you for coming back and finishing this. Your story was the first I'd read using the concept of Snape going mad in order to survive his actions on the Astronomy Tower, and although there have been a couple of others since, I've always wanted to see where you'd take the idea. So, this was a bit of an early Christmas prezzie.
Thank you very much for finishing the story! It has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and I love the power of Love at the end. It suits the HP universe. The epilogue looking at what the characters did after it was all over was fun. Thanks again! Happy writing your paranormal romance!

I know this will end with a good outcome, but I'm still anxious to finish the last two chapters. your talent as an author who gives us these wonderful alternatives to that dreadful seventh book is what I enjoy reading over and over again.
Wonderful! I have loved every chapter. Many thanks to you for sharing your impressive gift of storytelling. And now for some shameless begging - please hurry with the remaining chapters! I'm waiting with baited breath..
I am very much enjoying this! I hope to read more soon.
Thank you for finishing. I know this was a hard row to hoe!
Thank you for taking it up again. I have to say that when you admitted that Deathly Hallows had taken the wind from your sails, I was afraid your heart wouldn't be in finishing this story in keeping with the excellent previous writing. BUT thank Merlin, you've succeeded in proceeding with the same talent and skill as before. I love it! So far so good and looking forward to the last chapter(s). This is the only WIP I've remained interested in seeing finished. Thank you!
Ahh still wicked with the cliffy. =)
Nice action. Wonder what HG was hit with.
Still love mad!severus' dialog. He will forever call her trollop. XD
Nice....after all this time. -le sigh-
Very sweet first time scene.
