It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

I'm a 53 year old woman who wrote fanfic for years and adored doing it. While I lost the heart for fanfic after book 7 came out, I am still writing, and can be found at http://julianneqjohnson.com

Not nearly enough. I like it, but I desperately need more. Please....
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Glad you liked it! More coming soon! :)
lovely, hooray! i hope we get to see more Severus in the next chapter? and by the way it is "thing" because.... "think" doesn't make sense... in any way what so ever. People probably just misheard it when they were younger and were convinced that's it's right. *shrugs* i mean i used to think it was "ring around the rosies pocket full of ponies" when i was younger so it happens :)love it: carry on!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Actually, the expression started out with "think" back in the 1950's meaning that you'd better think again. but it's evolved since then. Nowadays, however a person heard it growing up is the way they think it should be.I'm thrilled that you like it so far! Thanks! :)
This just keeps getting mysteriouser and mysteriouser! ;) I love your writing, Plaid. Some people think that I am "over the top" when I say that these stories are a gift from the writer to the reader, but as I see it, the enjoyment that you (and others like you) bring is irreplaceable. As a thorough SS/HG addict, I would like to sincerely thank you for my fix once again.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
You are such an angel! I can't tell you how many times the fics of other writers have brightened my days. To hear someone say that about something that I wrote really astounds me. Thank you so much! :)

I'm thrilled that you are enjoying it! And I just posted the next chapter. Thanks! :)
I do hope you promise to finish this story. I'm always a little nervous about starting an unfinished fic, but this just looked so good. I'm attached. Please keep it up!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Not to worry! I haven't abandoned a fic yet, and I'm not about to start with this one! Sometimes real life just interferes with regular updates. *sigh* Thanks! :)
Oh, I hope that your going to finish this story! It's far to good to leave hanging!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
You know what, I think I am going to finish it!

Yes.

Yes.
Hi there, this fic is absolutely brilliant! I love the direction you are taking this in- and I'm a bit of a romantic, so I really hope Severus finds himself a cure- screw the rest of the wizarding world...You write wonderfully; witty, funny, and I like it how you haven't rushed into the romance. This must be the first SS/HG fic I've ever read where the characters have been so chaste this far! Having said that, I look forward to when things ... develop ;)Can't wait for your update, and once again, excellent work
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
It has been amazingly chaste, hasn't it? It was forever before I even got a good snog in, lol! But the lemons will be a coming eventually. This fic just seemed to want a long, steady build up, though I don't tend to rush right into the lemons in any of my chaptered fics. That's what naughty one-shots are for! ;) Thanks so much for the kind review! :)
This is an absolutely fascinating story - I can't believe that I haven't found it before - it's everything I like the most: it's very, very different and original compared to quite a lot SSHG-stories, which is refreshing - and it's a perfect combination of serious and funny moments. You must have quite an insight in human nature to write this! I certainly hope that you will update soon!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
What a lovely compliment! I like mixed genres, so I'm doing my best to keep this a reasonable mix of humor and drama. I'm so glad that you have enjoyed that aspect of it! I do tend to study people and situations a bit, I always have. Not that my insight is always correct, mind you, but it is something I like to think about. Thanks so much for the kind review! :)
If this has truly been abandoned, I may be the saddest person in the world right now. I suffer from horrible depression and your stories always pull me from the brink, make me laugh, make me forget my troubles for a time. Thank you for everything you've given us.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you for reading. Now, go read the new chapter. I don't want to make anyone the saddest person in the world!
Yay! More, more, more. I love your story. It's bloody brilliant and a different take. Keep at it!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you are enjoying it! Thanks! :)
Ooooooo.......... so she's going to see the sssssexy Bill Whore, is she... mmmm... ! *oops, sorry, wrong fic*
Uh, *clears throat* - enjoyable chapter there, Pook. I was particularly amused at the goblin's turn of phrase 'you are his prostitute'. I laughed out loud at that one. Looking forward to Bill's translation of the parchment!!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* I'm a Bill fan myself, but I'm afraid that Bill is going to be a perfect gentleman. :D I'm glad that you liked the goblin's question. That came from me wondering how Severus could write that letter if he wasn't using names. Thanks, doll! :)
EEEEE!! I freakin' love this story. It's making me giggle!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you are getting a kick out of it! thanks! :)
I loved the 'boys' teasing Hermione. Harry, in particular, seems really laid back, but then when you live with a madman in the midst of a war perhaps the only choices are insanity or mellowness. I think my favorite line is Ron's, “A little snogging and she’s gone right off her head.” It's rather peculiar (and convenient) that Severus is literate in Gobbledegook but I keep wondering whatever motivated (or forced?) him to learn it. Surely he didn't learn it just to communicate with his bankers? I don't imagine anyone can risk asking him about it, at least not before he's sane. At any rate, it's amusing that his use of names is consistent. I wonder if he smirked when he translated "pretty little whore" into Gobbledegook?Did Severus silence Mrs. Black with the Langlok curse Harry found in his old potions book? And I wonder what's become of Draco? Post more soon, please, but take all the chapters you want spinning out this tale. I love it so much I don't want it to end. ~

It seems to me that in the books, the three friends always find time to laugh, even when things are fairly serious. I'm trying to stay true to that, because folks just can't worry about Horcruxes 24-7, they have to live their lives as well. So I'm very glad that you are enjoying that part of it! I don't think it's all that odd that Severus would know Gobbledegook. Of the folks in Potterverse, I assume that Bill knows it, and we know that Crouch knew it, (as well as Mermish.) I imagine that if one was going to learn a foreign language, and one was a wizard, one might pick something like Gobledegook over French. In my mind, it would be rather hard, like an American learning Japanese, but I expect some studious wizards manage it. That's just my thoughts on the matter, of course. I have no idea what JKR thinks of the whole thing. I just wanted to tell you where I was coming from. And I think I've rambled on long enough for one response! Thanks for the kind review! :)
I feel like it's my birthday!! Woohoo - update time! Okay all giddines aside - I loved the letter of credit idea. Terrific way of getting around how much to withdraw and such. Handing the answer to Hermione in Goblin was priceless. Very Slytherin, Severus! I love how Harry and Ron have gradually transitioned to acceptance of Hermione and Severus' relationship. Just sitting here, waiting for my next birthday. (Actually today really is my daughter's birthday - so I'll be eating cake and celebrating for real).
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well a happy b-day to your daughter! Severus was rather Slytherin, wasn't he? Naughty man! :D Thanks so much for the kind review! :)
I've been really bumming about the loss of Steve Irwin, so hopefully this will get my mind off of it. Crikey! I'm so glad you updated! This story is a little beauty!
Response from zambonigirl (Reviewer)
Okay, I've finished the chapter, and it's really good! I like how Hermione is uncomfortable around the goblins. Were this my story, she and Bill would need to be separated, not put together. Just food for thought. Anyway, great chapter, she's a beauty all right! By crikey, I could read this little ripper forever and ever! Yeah!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Bri and I were both really sad about Steve Irwin. I just adored him! He was always so excited about what he was showing you, and that made you excited too. Such a shame to lose him so young to such a freakish accident. Lol! Not to worry about Hermione and Bill. He's got Phlegm after all, and our intrepid heroine is stuck on the madman. Thanks, love! You rock! :)
Thanks for the great chapter! Knee-high whores, indeed. Poor Hermione has to visit them again tomorrow. LOL. Hopefully Severus won't blow up the house. Great job!!! Cheers!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
We should have some fun now! Thanks! :)
Another lovely chapter says impatient Sun. LOL I'm interested in the potion. :) Follow the butterflies... follow the butterflies... (sung in Ron's voice from potter pals). LOL
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
HA! Follow the butterflies indeed! Thanks, doll! :)
aiiiieee!! hooray for updates! i was awake at 730 to towel off my dog whom had fallen into the pool and figured i'd read your update before going back to bed for another 5 hours, and i'm glad i did :) "this man, you are his prostitute?" haha that gave me a major case of the giggles. can't wait for next chapter!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the goblin's question. That came from me wondering how Severus would write that letter when he won't use anyone's name. Lol, silly dog! He must learn to fall into the pool at a more reasonable hour! :DThanks! :)
Poor Hermione is suffering such indignities- :) Lovely update.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* I have given her rather a hard time, haven't I?Thanks, Droxy! :)
Sigh... As good as ever... and as always it seems to short. Or perhaps I am too demanding a wench. If I had a stronger character I would wait for the story to be finished and then read... But alas I am too weak. All praise to the tartan waterhorse. I am looking forward to the time when Sevviekin's gets rid of his unwanted guest and gets his mind back... well at least that is what it seems to me.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol! It's one of the longest chapters yet, but I shall take that as a compliment. I am thrilled that you are too impatient to wait for it to be finished to read it, because I am far too fond of reviews! And I adore my new nickname! Thanks! :)
Excellent progress! So now Severus has all the potions ingredients he needs for experiments. Very clever of Severus, to give Hermione the info but keep it secure. Can't they ask Bill to come by the house so she doesn't have to go to Gringotts? Besides, the goblins won't like Bill taking off time from work, no? BTW, I'm glad Harry and Ron are taking things in stride, all these "whore" names and S&H snogging. Thank you for the new chapter!!! More, more, please!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I can't resist a Harry and Ron that are more reasonable about things. There are enough irate Ron and shouting Harry stories without me adding to the lot! Besides, I think I've given poor Hermione enough to cope with, lol! I'm afraid that I must send Hermione back to Gringotts, it's part of my evil plot! :D Thanks, June, for the kind review! :)
“Trollop? Why do you suddenly rate your own name?”“Because Severus likes me best,” Hermione replied with a cheeky grin." Priceless!"Knee-High Whores." And, "Are you his prostitute?" Oh, Lord, Pook, you're gonna *kill* me.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that I made you giggle! Thanks! :)
