It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

Reviews for The Price of Madness
Oh no, I missed Snape in the past couple of chapters anyway. ;)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Not to worry! We'll be seeing a lot more of him soon! ;) Thanks! :)
Poooooooooook! *kicks your job* Give her more time to write! I am *seriously* jones-ing for some Whore-Calling Snape and now he's run off! Do you have an idea about how many more chapters we have to look forward to of this infuriating and fabulous tale? I want it to go on and on, but I also want Severus and his poor little Patronus to get better. *sigh* Thank you for the update!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol, I want to kick my job too! I have no idea how many more chapters. We are well past half-way, but we have a little ways to get to the end, I think. After all, we haven't even got to the naughty bits yet! ;) Thanks so much! :)
Response from Subversa (Reviewer)
Sigh... Another update and a cliff hanger... Someone is trying to kill me! But as always, an excellent job. Praise to the Tartan Waterhorse. As it has been stated in cannon, Bill Weasley is cool and I love your representation of him. Draco is becoming cheeky, nice to see but there is extreme distress from across the puddle as there was no SNAPE in this chapter! Waaaahhhh...
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I know! No Snape! But there should be lot's of him in the next chapter or two to make up for it. I love Bill. I was glad to have a reason to try to write him. Thanks! :)
I've really been enjoying this very different Snape. It's not a persona I ever envisioned for him, but it seems more than plausable that his mind could crack from all he's been through. Your story is something fresh and engrossing. Your expanded details of the wizarding world are fascinating.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
It's been both difficult and big fun to try to write a mad Snape. I've had a good time with it. Thanks so much! :)
Hey, How did I miss the update. Oh well, I got to read it, didn't I. A little tense there wasn't it. Looking forward to some answers. Too funny that Snape put a message in there to Bill!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol, yes, I couldn't resist that message. Thanks! :)
This was like a mouthfull of water to someone really thirsty;delicious, but nor nearly enough!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
How sweet! Thank you! :)
sterling stuff. please update. That is the $25k question. . . . .
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Updated even as we speak! Thanks! :)
idont knwo if my review took. net acting funny.loved the last two chapters. Sev is sweet and Bill is excelently characterized.Kiss your betas! You have really good ones.I love this fic and continue to read it and i have to print it out and steal reading time in small segements.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
If my betas where within smooching distance, I'd kiss them every day! Aren't they something? Thanks especially for your comment about Bill. I've never tried to write him before. Thanks! :)
I loved this chapter, but..."It looked vaguely reptilian at first and then its long tail shrunk to that of a small greenish rabbit as pronged horns shot up out of its head. Before that change was even complete, the body became almost completely unlike that of a squirrel and ragged bird’s wings grew out of its back." I think you meant almost completely unike a rabbit, unless you were thinking of Hitchiker's substance that was almost, though not entirely, unlike tea.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol! Tea! Well, I meant squirrel. Imagine, if you will, that at that point the wee beasty looks almost completely unlike a squirrel with a greenish rabbit's tail and raggedy wings. Ick. Perhaps I should have gone with Eddie Izzard's "upside down" squirrel... Thanks! :)
Whines anxiously -- update, pretty please? I was really enjoying this, so I hope you haven't abandoned it.
Good to read an update! I'm very curious to know the next few steps. Thanks!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
More coming soon. The next chapter is already at the betas! Thanks! :)
Great chapter! Now the trio have another very smart and reliable ally. Thanks for giving the trio more help. They are going to need it! Cheers!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yes, I think that they will! Thanks! :)
I am not sure if I have reviewed this story before, but let me tell you, it is one good story. For awhile there I was afraid that you had stopped the story, but I am glad to see I was wrong. It is a well written story, and I wonder 'what next?'. I will be sorry to see it end, and am hoping that Severus Snape will be fine in the end. I am a sucker for a happy ending! :) Good job.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'll tell you a secret...well, maybe it's not much of a secret, but I'm a sucker for happy endings too! I am sorry that my dang real life has kept me from updating as often as I'd like, but I promise you that I'll never abandon it! I've got it all planned out to the bitter end, I just have to find the time to write it! Thanks! :)
I've been enjoying this story thus far. However, what finally got me to write a review is that your portrayal of Bill these last two chapters is one of best I've ever read. Love the combination of non-chalance with the quick reflexes and smarts.
And how great is it that Severus and Bill are actually friends to the point that Bill gets a special whore name too.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I've always liked Bill, so I was happy to have a reason to bring him into the story. I'm glad that you like that too! Thanks! :)
you are completely, totally, and utterly fabulous for writing this wonderful story, i love snape's madness and how you insert his clever little remarks every so often. please update as soon as you possibly can!!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I am so glad that you are enjoying it so far! Thanks! :)
Squee!!!! Bill knows about Severus and isn't going to kill him!! Poor Sevvy, with such a sad Patronus; doesn't sound like the critter could ever protect Severus from a Dementor. All those forms his Patronus took - do those mean anything, like maybe they each represent someone in his life? Ooh, you are so secretive you might be part-Goblin yourself! Thank you for the new chapter, Plaid Whore. Oh, and while Sevvy's Patronus was a sad sight, that was a wonderfully picturesque description!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
His Patronus is kind of icky, I think. I doubt it would be much use against Dementore in the shape it's in. I have indeed hidden a secret message in the Patronus morphings. It says: "June is a sweetie" and "That's MISS Plaid Whore to you!" *giggle* Thanks June!
Response from June W (Reviewer)
Wait, is it "MISS Plaid Whore" or "SUPREME-GODDESS Plaid Whore"?
ARGG!!!!!! *hyperventalates* I'm getting no answers here!!! :(. LOL Sorry. It's not your fault, and I of course loved this chapter just as much as all the others. I'm just getting kind of agrivated, because I've just read three new chapters of various WIPs and none of them has resolved anything. At least this didn't end with a cliff hanger like the other two. ^_^ I'm glad the next chapter will be up soon, I'd really like to find out what that scroll is about. Anyways, thanks for writing such an awesome story. It's people who write great stories like yours that help me get through the monotony of my daily life. ^_^ Thanks!~Morgan
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well, you'll get a couple of answers in the next chapter, but it ends with an evil cliffhanger. Is that a reasonable compromise? :D Thanks so much for reading, and thanks for the kind review! :)
Great chapter! *grin* Bill is a smart one; he completely surprised the trio.Looking forward to the next chapter and those answers. Thanks!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Next chapter coming soon, I hope! Thanks! :)
red topped track polisher
Very nice!
I've been waiting for this update for a long time coming, it was quite worth it...
Never knew about ThinK either, pretty interesting.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol, I never knew about the whole think/thing debate. You can find whole arguements about it on the web! Thanks, Len! :)
Sometimes, Harry's just too oblivious for his own good.Fantastic chapter! I love the standoff between Bill and the trio - namely Harry. Please update when you can!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
The next chapter is already at the betas, so it shouldn't be too long before an update. Lol! Harry is a funny fellow. I love playing with him. Thanks! :)
I just cannot wait for the next bit! I really love this story and your writing is WONDERFUL!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! More soon! :)
Excellent chapter! I look forward to getting some answers next time, but this one is a good recap of showing Snape is a good guy. Thank you!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol! All my Snapes are good guys, aren't they? but that's the way I like him! :D Thanks Larilee! :)
Ta ta TAAAAAA ! Wow two chapters within a week - yay ! The plot thickens....I would love to see more Draco, hope he is in the next installment. Will we be learning more about the curse Snape is under ?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
There will be a bit of Draco nect chapter, though I'm afraid he's still a rather minor character. Thanks! :)
By the way, my boss and I have discussed "preaching to the choir/converted." I know it as "preaching to the converted" and he says "preaching to the choir." It really annoys me when he has the nerve to correct me. So much so that I looked up the phrase, only to find both were widely used and (horror of all horror - because I'm very much a know-it-all myself) "preaching to the choir" actually predates "preaching to the converted." ARRGGHH!!Anyhoo....that's my small contribution to hotly debated topics
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Ha! Aren't dissagreements about common sayings a hoot? I think that most such saying have more than one version, and people use the one that they've heard most. Lol, I'm a "chior" girl myself, though I've heard both, and "converted" doesn't bother me. Thanks! :)
I thought I could feel the end approaching, but I think some extra chapters are in order. I'm so glad that Bill did not call in the cavalry. Now they have someone with a level head about (other than Lupin). Thank goodness Bill is brilliant, they could really use a hand.I really can't wait to find out what the scroll says. Very exciting!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
You shouldn't have to wait long, the next chapter is written and off to the betas. We aren't quite to the end yet, but I do think that things should speed up a bit from here on in. Thanks so much! :)
