It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

I'm a 53 year old woman who wrote fanfic for years and adored doing it. While I lost the heart for fanfic after book 7 came out, I am still writing, and can be found at http://julianneqjohnson.com
You can find my published work on Amazon under the name Julianne Q Johnson.

some answers but even more questions. What Severus is searching is about horcruxes, no ? And that impossibility for portrait Dumbledore and Severus to speak of That Night is definitively fishy.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yes, definitely fishy! I wish I could tell you more, but I'd spoil it for sure! Thanks for the sweet review! :)
Follow the butterflies... follow the butterflies... You've been watching the Potter Puppet Pals thing? LOL!! They have Ron on there singing that. TeeheeGood chapter. Poor Snape. Hmm... I'm thinking so many different things right now. lol
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Really?! I haven't seen that one! I love the Potter Puppet Pals! Thanks for reading, Sun! I'm off to look up the Puppet Pals! :)southern_witch_69's response: It's the one where Voldemort goes to Hogwarts. While he's using the Avada Kedavra on Snape, the swirls of his spell make a star shape. Click on that, and it will throw you to the other scene with Ron and the butterflies. It's quite snickerworthy. Let me know if you find it. Teehee
Wonderful, wonderful! I love the direction the story's going, and I can't wait for more. =) Thanks for such a nice lovely fresh story!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you for reading it, and for your kind comments! :)
Very interesting dynamics working. Like the wild, crazy insane Snape. Does Potter learn about the specifics of the save--is he still connected to Voldie? Draco almost seems too nice?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lovely questions, and I really can't answer a one! Well, I will say that I don't think I'll use the odd conection between Harry and Voldy as an excuse not to let Harry know what's going on. JKR doesn't seem to worry too much about it. After all, Harry has known Snape was a spy for years, he also knows who many of the members of the Order are, yet no one ever seemed very concerned about the connection. But that's just one Pook's opinion, it could be argued either way. Glad you like Mad Snape so far, and I hope you will continue to do so! Thanks for the kind review! :)
Butterflies :D

Glad that you got a kick out of portrait Albus! :)
My heart aches when I read this, poor Severus! Beautifully written.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you! :)
Ok seriously you had me cackling the entire time with Severus and his use of the word Whore. I just about died laughing everytime. Loved this story so so much!
My first thought when he jumped out of bed was that he was going to freak out about the lack of birth control. That was not the case 😂 and I KNOW this is fantasy because she didn't feel cum sliding down her thighs as she ran to the office.
While waiting for updates to "Hermione Granger and the Taciturn Shopkeeper", I have spent time reading throug this "old friend". I must have read thousands of fanfics through the years, lots of them truly brilliant and I will never be able to pick one to be the absolute best. But, if I was asked to give a list of 25 stories a new "fanfic reader" must read, The price of Madness would be one of them. Tha ability to write the completely bunkers Severus Snape is unique and truly awesome. I love it. I will now look into two other favorites, "Naked journey" and "Overcome with feeling".
Author's Response: You are the sweetest!
Oh I'm so glad he becomes sane again. This fic has made me piss myself laughing, and also brought me on the verge of tears several times. I've also quite embarassed myself in the public library because of these two such reactions. Thank you, pretty little whore-writer *g*(I love insane!Snape and you wrote him so credibly)Cheers!
*weeps* im waiting for an update!! *wipes sniffles on my sleeve* we wuff your story!!!
This is an excellent story. I hope you will finish it. I have read several others of yours and have enjoyed them immensley. You write fantastically and realistically. But, please, especially finish this story. Who cares if it is AU!!
“Boy,” Severus drawled, “I’ll thank you not to annoy the pretty little whore while she has her wand pointed at my nipples.”
Okay, I am so freaking glad I found this story. No wonder everybody loves it so.
please more????? it is a very good story and i would like to read some more. I have enjoyed all of your work that i have read and i am working to make sure i read it all.
Somehow I got sucked in midway through story, though I only meant to read this chapter... Anyway. Great action; good pacing, good mix of dialogue and description, love the 'return' of our madman. LOVED that Albus 'got better.' Monty Python?
Hermione & Bellatrix: well-played. Kind of still gives me the heebie-jeebies to think about. Looking forward to your next post :D
Oh, and things were going so WELL for them all. That crazy Severus... Good work as always!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
"That crazy Severus." ROFL! Well said! Thanks! :)
I started reading yeasterday and couldn't put it down!Great story, you have me sucked right in...... are you sure there wasn't some goblin magic put on my screen? :)Can't wait to find out what you have done with Severus.... bring him back safe for us all to play with please?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yay! I've snagged another one! :D I'm thrilled that you have enjoyed it so much. I promise I'll bring Severus back soon, and I won't let anything too dreadful happen to him. ;) Thanks! :)
Another great chapter. Very involving.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you! :)
just love the plot and how it is coming along
can't wait to see more of Severus
keep up the good work
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
We'll see Severus again soon. Thanks! :)
This story continues to delight. Nice touch with the spell in Tolkienish Gobbledegook.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm glad that you liked the goblin! I couldn't resist a tip of the hat to Tolkien. thanks! :)
NOOO!!! Where did he go? Bill's a clever one. So far I'm glad he's on their side. And I'll say that a five minute spell sounds REALLY REALLY long and complicated, especially for such a gutteral language. Fittingly difficult for a horcrux destruction. And I like your theory of Goblin magic. Very original, fits with canon, and plausible. I enjoyed this very much. More coming, then?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I had big fun playing with the goblins. That vault of theirs has always fascinated me. Bill is too clever by half, and I'm having fun writing him. Thanks! :)
He's what?
*growl*
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
He's runnd oft! *giggle* Thanks, Len! :)
Bill is too observant and clever for his own good.A great chapter, with an evil cliffhanger ending. LoL. I can't wait to see what happens next... well, I can, but, you know what I mean. The rate the trio is going, however, the whole order will know about Severus and Draco before too long. Please update whenever you can :)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol! I think the trio has done fairly well. Their only big slip up has been Bill, and he's a mighty clever chap. Thanks! :)
Don't hurt Severus!
Don't hurt Severus!
Please, don't hurt Severus.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I promise that I won't hurt him...much. ;) Honestly, don't fret about him. He's got things to do. Thanks! :)
