It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

Reviews for The Price of Madness
Gaahhh...your story is so amusing....and so addictive! More, more, more! Love the tantrum throwing, giggling Severus, especially when he tries to crawl away and hide; ahh, such sweet little kid behavior. He's so unstable yet so poingantly emotional when he confesses to Hermione why he doesn't like showers. Oh the abuses Severus must've suffered as a child and teenager. Severus is so vulnerable yet Hermione is starting to work on him trusting her...hopefully in the future Severus will come to understand Hermione only has his best interests at heart. Thanks Pooka!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you like it so far, and thanks for your kind comments. I think that severus is well on the way to trusting Hermione and I'm glad that she's taking such good care of him. Thanks! :)
I simply want to cry every time I read another of these chapters. Poor Severus. Eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Thank you so much! I'll try not to make it too maudlin. thanks! :)
OMG... he is so traumatized. I don't think he's "mad" but definitely has post-traumatic stress disorder, and I hope Hermione figures that out so she can read up on how to help him. Ron is amazingly calm and patient with Severus. Well done, Hermione and Ron!! And thanks for updating, Pooks. (sends bribe to rain goddess....)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* No more rain! Pook has had it up to her eyeballs with rain! Post tramatic stress certainly is playing a part here, but it isn't all he's dealing with, and that's all I'm going to say about that! :x Thanks, June! You're the best! :)
Once in the bathroom, Hermione turned around as he undressed, wondering why the rustle of his clothing seemed so loud."The little spying whore needs a shower, too," Severus said, placing his hands on her robes.Well, she couldn't run off, now could she? Hell, no. She'd promised to stay. So she simply allowed him to disrobe her and pull her into the shower.Fade to Black...for now LOL!Great chapter. The only thing I hated was that it was over so quickly. Oi, you know it's good when it reads so fast, eh?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
That chapter went fast writing-wise, as well. Nice to have a bit of action instead of nothing but talking! (LOL, not THAT kind of action!) While I adore your version of the next chapter, *eg* I'm afraid it isn't going to be quite that easy! ROFL! Thanks for the giggle, and for the kind review! :)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
*wishes she was Pook's beta*On a serious note, really good work. It's fun and just enough to keep us hooked.
Omg I got the image of him hiding behind the couch arse up in the air and got the tickles nicely done can't wait for more
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol! Glad it made you giggle, it made me giggle as well! Thanks! :)
bless the rain if it makes you update earlier ! It just makes me want next chapter soon : that shower should be interesting.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yes, I think that it will be interesting. I'm in the middle of writing it now, and I must say that it's the oddest 'shower scene' that I've ever written! :D Thanks! :)
I know it sounds strange, but I kind of like Severus like this. Maybe it's just the fact that he's so vulnerable and human. Wonderful job, as usual! ~

I too think he's rather appealing like this, and I think you've hit the nail on the head as to why. Thanks! :)
wonderful wonderful wonderful!! Write faster!! Can't wait for the next bit!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! Lol, I'll write as fast as I can! :)
Ha! I bet the neighbors aren't pleased with Snape's antics!
Oi. Poor Hagrid. Harry's not going to hex Snape first, ask questions later is he, or if he is, the hex won't be one of the nastier ones, will it?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
He is causing quite a fuss, isn't he? Will it get sorted, or will he be whisked away by the Muggle police? :D Thanks! :)
are we going to see some hermione and severus romance soon
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
We will definitely see some HG/SS interaction and building friendship soon, but I'm afraid that the romance part of this fic is going to be quite slow in coming. :)
Response from harrypotterfan2005 (Reviewer)
so that means it is going to be a while before we see them make love then.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well, i don't see Hermione as the kind of person who would take advantage of someone who was not quite mentally themself at the moment. So if you are looking for quick lemons, or a PWP, this ain't it! :D My chaptered fics don't tend to jump into the naughty bits right away. :)
Response from harrypotterfan2005 (Reviewer)
thats cool
Hooray, hooray! Lovely chapter as usual! I wish Hermione didn't always have to be right, but... I guess it's for the best for everyone. Can't wait for the next one!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* My Hermione does have a nasty tendency to be right all of the time, doesn't she? Thanks sweetie! :)
I really do hope that's the way it went! I can't stand the thought of Severus being a murderer. I absolutely love your story! ~
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I don't much like the thought of him being a murderer either. I can stay firmly in denial until JKR tells me otherwise! :D Thanks! :)
Response from themistresssnape (Reviewer)
I'm right there with you, and if JKR does tell us differently, I have plenty of evidence from HBP to argue her with! ~
great chapter as usual. sooo...What's Snape so worked up about? Did something happen or is it just his crazyness acting out?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Ah! Well, shall I just tell you then? No! I won't! Muahahahaha! Well, you only have to wait until the next chapter, so I don't feel too evil about it! :D Thanks! :)
Hahaa... The whore man is back with avengeance. I'm so curious to see why that's his new favorite word. I like the Hagrid portion. What you said in the Pensieve pretty much sums up what I suspect, too. And, I shouldn't have read your note at the beginning. I had little Irish Leprechauns in my mind, singing and dancing, especially when Hagrid was talking. Psst.... just between us... I imagined Hagrid drinking some mead and dancing about with them, but he accidentally sat on one. Yikes! Party over. Teehee
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
ROFLMAO! Oh, the poor sod would cry and cry if he smooshed one!I promise that the whore shouting will eventually be explained. Eventually. Muahahahaha<---evil laughter. I'm a firm believer of the whole "Snape had no choice" school. Even if JKR tells me otherwise, I'll still have a little secret hope in my heart! Thanks, love! :)
I´ve always wanted to know more about the conversation Hagrid overheard. This should be very interesting.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I've been curious about that conversation myself! Thanks! :)
Very nicely done, doll.Oh, hang on. Let me get constructive.I believe that when they had that awkward three way hug, Harry would have looked up and thought of Ron as Ginny, giving him a big kiss. Then, Hermione would have felt left out, wanting some. Then....Hahhaa... Just mucking.I liked it fine. Very explanatory.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
ROFLMAO! Hey, I think that I read that story somewhere... Thanks, love! You and your stories are a good influence on me! :)
Just fantastic, I'm so glad I've found this fic, I'm just upset its a WIP (but you're so reliable its not a major stress)
I love your portrayal of the oh-so-insane-Snape and (miracle of miracles in the HGSS world) a reasonable and believable Ron and Harry that still retain their flaws and character.
I'm pining away for the next installement! Hurry!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
How sweet! I'm so pleased you've decided to give this WIP a chance. I have been clobbered with writer's block before, so I can't promise anything, but I'm not expecting any trouble with being able to update regularly. In fact, I've been writing like the wind at the moment. Let's hope it keeps up. Thanks for the sweet comments about my Harry and Ron. I know they can both be prats on occasion, but I think they are both good guys, and I get tired of reading stories where they still seem like they are 11 years old! Thanks so much! More soon! :)
Lovely. Do the butterflys mean anything, or are they just a red herring?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Shall I just tell you then? Nah, I don't think that I will! :D I am having the hardest time keeping my mouth shut! So many mysteries, so little that I can say! Thanks! :)
So what is the going price of madness these days? You seem to be giving it to us for free, and I wonder if you're undervaluing yourself. Sorry, it's just... *sigh* This is obviously important set-up for future plot movement, but I want the plot progressing now! Yes, you may call me Miss Salt. I'll be patient, I suppose, since you're being so generous as to give us this story for free. But I'm only being patient because it's compelling, darn it!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well, Veruca... *gigglegigglegiggle* "I want a feast! I want a bean feast!" Ok, I know what a 'bean feast' means, but it still sounds just disgusting to an American. I know that the exposition of this conveluted tale is a bit of a drag, but it simply must be done! I'm as impatient as you to get to the good stuff (and I don't mean the lemons, I just mean the good stuff!) and I think that is the reason that I've been writing so fast! We'll have some fun before too awful long, promise! Thanks for the review, and for the giggle, Veruca! :D
Response from averygoodun (Reviewer)
Ooh! Good stuff! Must get to good stuff! (And I'm glad you mean good stuff, not just lemons. I like a story with substance!) - V.S.

I think this review doubled up on us, Veruca! (That is still making me giggle) Thanks! :)
Good talk they had, but Harry is such a twit. He doesn't have to go in and see the memory with her for heaven's sakes. LOL I'm wanting some Snape, the nutter!! Woohoo. Where's the man with the plan at? Can't wait for more. Keep writing. LOL
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Harry had a bad time of it, the poor sod! I promise I won't have him shouting the whole fic. :D Never fear, Mad Severus will return! Not immediately mind you, but before too awful long. Thanks, doll! :)southern_witch_69's response: Remus: What say I let her tell Harry and Ron the full truth?Draco: *Growl* Potty and the Weasel are idiots, but if they could help clear our names eventually....Severus: Pretty little whore will know what to do.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Sun, you kill me! So funny and so true! :D
Ooh. This is interesting. You've set up the mystery quite well. I'm hooked. Will we find out what Draco's decision is next chapter? (It's too much to ask for the reason behind Snape's insanity, I know... and I don't want that solved so soon, anyway.)
I hope you update soon!
Response from averygoodun (Reviewer)
Oh, and I forgot: Is Harry's refusal to view the memory related to Portrait Dumbledore and Snape's being unable to speak of it? Very interesting!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm thrilled that you're hooked! So many good questions, and not a one that I can answer without spoiling something. I have been writing like the wind, though, so hopefully there will be more soon! Thanks! :)
Death Eaters! In my home! Thank god my folks are away…I am so dead.
LOL! Tense scene, but this was just too funny! Looking forward to the next chapter, which I'm off to read right now.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yes, it was a bit amusing. I didn't want it to be too grim, and you will see why in the next chapter. Thanks for the kind review! :)
Butterflies. That´s a nice touch :-) I love this plot!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you! I'm having great fun writing it! :)
is somehting they did -- him and head master -- making him like this to fool everone until he can bring him back to life or til voldermot is dead?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
My lips are sealed! :x But there will be more soon, so you can see how it goes! Thanks! :)
