It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

I'm a 53 year old woman who wrote fanfic for years and adored doing it. While I lost the heart for fanfic after book 7 came out, I am still writing, and can be found at http://julianneqjohnson.com

Reviews for The Price of Madness
Thank you so much for the new chapter. I look forward to the next one.Good luck with getting your donations and congratulations on your accomplishment with your weightloss.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
What an awesome accomplishment, Pook m'dear! Losing 40 pounds is no mean feat! It makes sense, too, that the writing has suffered - making the necessary lifestyle changes to become healthier means not doing the things that you associate with eating poorly - and sitting on one's arse in front of the computer is not necessarily a healthy occupation!
As for the chapter - I'm so happy! I'm so pleased that Severus was reasonable when Hermione came to make amends for her faux pas. I am eager to see what comes next. Bless you, dear Pook!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
You're right. I have much less computer time when I'm being all healthy. And the diet seems to be sucking out my brain as well. *sigh* But I seem to be writing again, so keep your fingers crossed! Thanks,
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
! :)
Oh thank you so much for not leaving us all in misery waiting for them to get together again. You are merciful. I'm so glad to have Severus back, though I certainly loved him mad as well. Glad he still said "I suppose." He's got to throw a whore around now and then, please?
You're awesome.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* We might still see the occasional "whore". Thanks! :)

Hooray, hooray, hooray! :) I've been watching for this forever! I'm glad they got their misunderstanding sorted out.

Thank you so much! :)
Still going strong. Very satisfying chapter. As usual your characterizations are strong and your story very enjoyable. Thanks, JoAnne

Thank you so much! :)
Thank you! I do *love* this story, and I'm always happy when you update. I'm also happy Hermione got Severus sorted out with the sir business. Harry and Ron's business, "did he go all Snape on you?" What a great line! I'm sensing an ending near, but am still looking forward to seeing where you take this story.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
We have a little ways to go yet, but you are right, I think we are close to the end. Thanks! :)
I was so glad to see that your story is back, you probably could have just typed a bunch of commas in there and I still would have been delirious...but what a great chapter! The HG/SS reunion was terrific and the banter at the end with the three friends was an unexpectedly funny note to end on.
P.S. Congratulations on your healthy new direction in life, and good luck with the 5K. I donated in memory of my beagle (a shelter dog, I love the Humane Society!).
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the donation! My fantabulous readers raised 150 bucks for the furries, and that rocks! Thanks for helping! :)
congrats on the weight loss, I keep telling myself I am going to start exercising and eating healthier, but I always manage to find a reason to put it off for another week, so good luck to you while you get healthier. Well I love the chapter, and am going through my change to see if I can scrounge up a donation so that I can get two more chapters this month. Can't wait for more of sane severus.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks! I seem to be stuck at 40 lbs lost, but I feel so much better I can't even begin to tell you! Thanks for reading! :)
Congratulations, pretty little Trollop, on losing that much weight! I have lost 30 pounds since January, and I know how easy it ISN'T!!
I would love to donate to your cause, but I am a lowly Intern at a non-profit agency and simply do not have the money. I will, though, in the not too distant future, if I can donate then....
In the meantime, good luck on your 5K, your favorite cause, and Welcome Back!!!
CHEERS!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
No worries love! I know what it's like to not have the money for anything extra. Someday when you have a few spare bucks, donate to your local shelter. They really need all the help they can get! And big congrats on the 30 lb loss! I am stuck at 40, but maybe one of these days I'll get my butt back in gear! :)
Since I donate to my Las Vegas Valley Humain Society, why not donate to yours as well. All furries need a bit of help now and then. You have my donation and congrats on losing all that weight...now let me know how you are doing it so I can too...I could lose a good fifty pounds! Oh...and this story? Fan freaking tastic. I was estatic to get online and see a new chapter. Red
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Good for you for donating to your local furries! That works for me. Furries all over the world need all the help they can get.As for the weight, I'm doing it the old fashioned way. Healthy diet and daily exercise. Not exciting, but it works! :D Thanks! :)
Definitely worth the wait to have him call her "Hermione" and not "trollop" (Not that I didn't find "trollop" endearing).Congratulations on your amazing weight loss. I'm on the long and hard trail to weight loss, too. 70 pounds lost since August of last year, so I understand how time-consuming eating right and exercising can be.So the "Price of Madness" is a donation to your cause? Seems a small price to pay for more of one of my favorite stories. Actually, I'd pay just for the pleasure of more sentences along the line of "Not that ignoring it was the easiest task, what with it sticking up at such a jaunty angle." That one almost caused a spit-take!Thanks again for such a great installment!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Wow! Good for you! I have 80 to lose total, but I seem to be stuck after losing 40. I really need to get back on track. Thanks! :)
Sweet, cute and funny. Just what I needed after today.Good luck with the weight loss, I personally recomend Hudia which is a herbal supplement good for weight loss. I am so sorry I am unable to donate to your cause, but I help run a family owned dog shelter and we have a hard time making ends meet, but I hope you get a ton of donations.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
It sounds to me that you are already doing your part to help the furries. Good for you! And thanks for reading! :)
I donated! Keep the chapters coming!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks so much for the donation, and for reading! I am ashamed about how long it has taken me to update, but I'm finally writing again! Thanks! :)
Here I thought she might have to win him all over again, the obstinate bastard he is capable of being. Instead, it just takes a bit of a reminder of just how close the two of them have been (ahem). A very nice tease for all of us readers!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
Go Severus!! I was so happy to see that you had written more about the snarky whore. Love it!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
Way to go with the weight loss! Since I am Canadian I hope you don't mind but I'll make a donation to my local Humane Society. I was so excited to see the update and can't wait for the next installment. It's nice to see Hermione's friends are becoming more and more accepting of her relationship choice. Looking forward to the next horcrux challenge for them.Just thinking of Severus going back into the Riddle House 'playing' crazy is making me laugh.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Good for you for making a local donation! Furries need help all over the world, after all. Thanks for reading, and thanks for the kind review! :)
You have made my day with this update, thank you! Good for Hermione, facing that head-on. Finally the big kiss with sane Snape. I laughed out loud when Ron made the comment about Snape wanting his girlfriends to call him Professor!!! Congrats with your weight loss, losing that much weight and keeping it off is no easy task. Keeping healthy is the best gift you can give yourself, you deserve it. Good luck with your 5K!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well, I'm doing great at keeping it off, but not so well with losing more, lol! Thanks for reading, and thanks for the kind review! :)
Yay!! Welcome back, PlaidWhore!! Thanks for the new chapter and snog, although had I been given the choice between breakfast with Harry and Ron vs. snuggling with Severus, well... Will Draco be at the meeting? He's really grown on me in this fic. Congratulations on the weight loss, and on being past the halfway point on your fundraising goal!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, June! And we'll have more than a snog coming soon! ;)
My kids ran in the room to see why I squealed so loud!! Great chapter. I am looking forward to more. Best of luck on your 5K walk.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Did you tell them? :D The 5k went great, thanks! And thanks for the kind review! :)
SQUEEE! Oh what a happy chapter with snogging, and discussion about snogging.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Thanks, Droxy! :)
Oh, wow. Okay, first off, you've got a lot of the same ideas I do, and I've been toying with a fic that I will now abandon, because I have something else working, and I like the way you write better (way, way better) than the way I write. So, glad to see someone taking all of this on, and having an SS/HG at the same time. Secondly, I'd like to say that I love this story, and you'd better update soon, you whore!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Hey there, you zamboni riding whore! (sorry, everything is whore this and whore that to me right now. I wonder why?) I love your stories! I can honestly say that I much prefer reading your fics to reading my own. So, while I'm glad to hear you are working on something, I'm sad to hear any plot bunny abandonment talk!I'm thrilled that you like this so far, and I'm writing as fast as I can! Thanks, sweetie! Kiss the piggies for me! :)
Response from zambonigirl (Reviewer)
*totally starts kissing piggies until they say, "Moooom!" to her*Well, I just have something else brewing in my head and on Word, and I sort of need to finish Mr. Mom, which is finished, I just need to tweak the last chapter and ugh. So, keep writing, you Pooka Whore!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yay! Finish Mr. Mom! I love that fic! It's whore-riffic! :D
This "whores" must be part of a code language - "Dark Whore," "whore's son," etc. I'm glad Sevvy is finally getting healed up - and he has given Helga's Cup to the Order. Thanks for not letting Ron and Harry ignore Hermione's warnings to call Remus first! Nice to see them all laughing together for a bit.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I like Draco. Oh, I know he's a spoiled prat, but I feel sorry for the poor slob. I couldn't resist having them all in the same room together without wanton hexing. Thanks June! :)
LOL!!! This was great! Another Horcurx and lively banter to boot! They're practically having a party! You've got to love that! I can't wait to see what your brilliant mind comes up with next! Cheers!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! I'm glad that you got a kick out of it! :)
Hermione is a great strategist; at least she's thinking! Oh, and I cannot wait to see what happens with Severus and Draco!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I like a smart Hermione, not just a bookworm. I'm glad that you like her too! Thanks! :)
Oh, my. Well, that would be good--I think...--because I, too, belive that they were arguing about Snape killing Dumbledore in Draco's stead. Snape wouldn't want to kill Dumbledore for any reason other than Dumbledore was forcing him to.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I refuse to believe there wasn't some plot afoot! Even if JKR herself shows up on my doorstep to tell me otherwise! *giggle* Thanks! :)
