Chapter 24
Chapter 24 of 50
gersknightladyHermione flees the wizarding world and comes face to face with her past.
ReviewedHermione threw her arms around Raven and jumped up and down, screaming with joy. "We found it! We found it!"
Raven was laughing at her. Then suddenly he stood back and stared at the parchment.
Hermione sobered and choked back tears. Finding this piece of parchment had been one of their goals, but now that they had it, they remembered it could undo their whole lives together.
Hermione dropped the parchment and threw her arms around his neck. She buried her face into his neck and felt his hand rub her back. She felt the warmth of his breath against the back of her neck, and she wanted him like she had never wanted anyone in her life.
"Raven, make love to me, now! Please!"
He did not answer her but swooped down and picked her up. He waved his wand, changing a lounge into a bed.
"Well done," Hermione whispered, impressed.
They quickly shed their clothes. Raven's hand touched her more roughly than before; Hermione was just as firm with her touch, and their kisses were quick, deep, and hungry. Raven's fingers slipped inside her, and she rode them with urgency. Just before climax, he thrust himself deeply into her and pounded against her. She wrapped her legs around him, holding on to his shoulders, loving the feel of his long hair, which made a wall around their faces so they only saw each other. They were in a world of their own. They looked deep into each other's eyes as their climax hit them, and they cried out their pleasure. Suddenly, they seemed to feel each other, become each other. Their cries of pleasure echoed back and forth in the room a number of times. Raven collapsed onto her, and she held him tightly, her legs still wrapped around him.
"What was that?" he gasped.
"Legilimency, I think," she answered, her breathing starting to slow.
"Did I read your mind?" he asked incredulously.
She smiled. "It was wonderful, wasn't it?"
"Amazing." Then he asked, "Are you sure you don't care that I invaded your mind?"
"No, Raven," she said. "I am yours in my heart. Why not my mind?"
"Aren't I heavy?" he asked with a smile.
She caressed his lip with hers. "Not really. You feel wonderful."
They stayed wrapped together for a long while, gently kissing. Then Hermione released him, and he slid to her side.
*******
Later, after they had slept, they went to stand over the newly found parchment. Raven finally reached down to touch it. He nearly dropped it. "It's warm like it's alive!"
Hermione said, "It didn't feel warm to me. It must be the magic that connects you to it."
"How do we destroy it? Do you think we can burn it?"
Hermione reached into the hidden compartment and took hold of the book. It was heavy, and the cover was intricately detailed and carved. It had a snake on it. "Salazar Slytherin was one of the most evil wizards in our world. I don't think he started out that way. He just wanted to learn, but the dark magic captured him. Its power corrupted him. It made him think he was superior to everyone. It spoke to the evil in Tom Riddle, and he thought he would continue Salazar's work...creating a master race with pure-bloods being the ultimate wizarding rulers. It doesn't make sense on so many levels, the least of which is because he was half-blood himself."
She took the book to a table and they sat and looked through it. The blood oath parchment spell was near the beginning. Burning would destroy it. But it had to be done by Raven and with his wand. He had to cut himself, let a drop of fresh blood drip on the parchment, and then ignite it with his wand.
They placed the parchment inside a caldron. With a small, jeweled knife they'd found, they cut Raven's hand and squeezed out a drop of blood. It fell with a plop onto the parchment, and then Raven reached out with his wand and said, "Incendio." The flame flared bright blue, then purple, and then vanished. Only a fine dusting of ash remained in the cauldron. It was gone.
They stood there silently looking at the ashes for a while. Then Raven took Hermione's hand and pulled her into his arms. "Well, we have taken a big step forward."
She was trembling, and he held her close until she calmed down. "It's all been quite an adventure, Raven, but I guess I didn't realize that it has always been a one-way road. We have to complete this no matter what the cost to ourselves...not necessarily for Harry, but for you, too. You need to be all of who you are."
He nodded in agreement. "Well, what do we do now?"
"We need to study the spell and potion book. The spell must be there, or he would not have hidden it with the parchment."
They took their seats again and started to go through the book. Near midnight they found it. "It's here," Hermione said excitedly. Then, "Oh god, Raven, it takes six weeks to brew the potion."
"Six weeks!" He peered at the page himself. Part of him was glad they would have more time together, and part of him was freaked that he would be in limbo in this place full of dark magic and the unknown. And there was the beaded necklace that seemed to be on the edge of his thoughts. Were all the memories tainted with horror at the end? Would he find out something nice about his life? Hermione was convinced his mother loved him. She seemed to have had feelings, but had that been love? Her love was tainted with her hatred of his father. He wondered why his mother had ever married such a horrible man. Why hadn't she found a wizard to love?
"Well, that will give us more time together. We will be able to explore this place."
"Yes, more time," Hermione said. "We'll explore, but we'll do it very carefully."
A little while later, after reading more about the potion and its theory, Hermione spoke again. "Raven, there's a warning here. Once the potion is started, anyone affected by its curse will begin to lose himself. He will become more and more like a child. The actual brewing is in itself a curse; the fumes slowly steal the mind of the affected one. Only the fully cooked potion will bring the cursed one back to himself."
"Do you think this is another of his nasty traps?" Raven asked, peering around the room suspiciously.
"It's more like another one of Voldemort's dirty jokes. It's probably his last-ditch effort at destroying you. But he never counted on me being here. Me, loving you, and me brewing the potion. I learned from the master. I can do it. You must decide if we will do this. This will be your last chance, Raven. Once we start the brewing process, there will be no going back."
"We will continue. I must remember my life." He knew that Hermione would never accept anything less of him. He had to do this, or eventually, they would lose each other one way or another. Her desire to help Harry was overwhelming. He knew she desperately wanted to save Harry and have him as well. It wasn't a choice she could make, and he wouldn't force the choice on her.
Hermione looked at him with pride and fear for them both. "I am so proud of you, Raven." She looked around, shielding him from the tears that had filled her eyes. "We must be careful here no matter what we touch. The very nature of his collection garners caution. Touching evil can rub off on you, so-to-speak. Plus, some of these books might actually have teeth that bite."
Raven looked horrified, and Hermione just laughed at him.
*******
They did spend a couple of hours very carefully looking into the food and water situation. They found a kitchen with a great supply of staples and some delicacies preserved in food jars. There was a collection of rare wines. Voldemort had had expensive tastes. There was an enchanted alcove that had a sliding stone door. It was like a freezer inside, holding fresh meat of all kinds.
"Beef," Raven said with a sigh. "I haven't had a good steak since I found one half eaten in the trash behind that eatery in London.
"Oh, Raven," Hermione said with tears stinging her eyes. "I know how that was. Yet London seems a lifetime away instead of just a few months. It almost seems like a nightmare and not something we really lived through." She took out a large steak and set it aside for them to cook later. There was a stove they could heat with a cooking spell. There was also a dinning table with a large candelabrum in the center.
Hermione laughed. "I guess he liked all the comforts of home."
Another alcove was a full bathroom with a running waterfall, similar to Snape's. There was a large, tub-sized indent in the rocks. The water was heated like a hot tub. It was probably a natural hot water spring. Hermione looked longingly at it. The next room was a bedroom. The bed was covered in black and had blue topaz and silver Greek key designs on the spread.
"I'm surprised he didn't sleep in a snake's den," Raven said. "From what you've told me, he seemed more animal than human."
"He was an animal. He was cruel, blood thirsty, and power hungry, and he didn't care who or what got in his way. It's a huge testament to Severus Snape for going through all that he did for Harry and for the wizarding world in general. He may have believed that it was his fault and he had amends to make, but the hell he suffered at Voldemort's hands would have made any man turn away from that course. Yet he stayed to the bitter end. He knew he would end up without his memories and alone."
Raven said, "You finding me was a miracle, no coincidence. I believe God sent you to me. We may not be all he wants us to be, but he did care enough to send you to find me."
"At the cost of my parents?" She sounded bitter.
"No, but he used that situation to send us both where we could find hope and happiness," he said, holding her close.
She buried her face into the crook of his neck. "Maybe you're right, Raven. Maybe he does care about us."
They spent the evening talking about what they would do. They decided that leaving with the book might not be a good idea. They had no clue if the cavern would magically seal if they passed through the wall again. There were protections here for them because of their love. It had been unfathomable to Voldemort that Severus would come with someone who had loved him more than life itself. Their love had undone the enchantments surrounding the book and parchment. They felt they would continue to be protected. They decided to brew the potion and live in the cave. There were enough provisions to take care of them the entire six weeks and beyond. Cave life was not ideal, but they determined that they would be okay without the sun for a few weeks. They had spent a great deal of time in the sun in the last months. Plus, this cave had many wonders to be discovered. If there were hidden passages leading to further reaches of the cavern, they would find them and do some exploring.
They cooked and ate the steak with some potatoes and bread. They opened a bottle of fine wine and toasted to their future even though they both had secret thoughts that it might be short. That night, they curled up in the huge bed, and though they both pretended to fall asleep, they stared off into the darkness for hours.
The next morning after a breakfast of porridge and eggs found in a stasis box, they went to study the book of potions and spells. They spent the day trying their best to understand it all, and they began the arduous task of collecting all the ingredients from the huge stores of potion supplies that Voldemort had amassed.
Hermione had a hard time staying on task because she was so excited about the rare ingredients Voldemort had stored. "Phoenix tears!" she cried out in excitement. She slipped the vial into the pocket of her jeans for safekeeping. They could heal any injury. But there were still dangers. When she came upon books that felt wrong, she placed wards around them. They would leave those for the Aurors to deal with. By the end of the day, they had their lab set up and their ingredients assembled.
Exhausted, they took a long, hot bath and relaxed as the water and steam soothed their bodies. They sat cradled in each other's arms for some time, just loving the feel of their bodies pressed together. Raven held her in his lap with her back against his chest. He ran his hands over her body, rubbing in a soft soap they had found. His hand slid over her legs and thighs and circled her stomach. "I can't get enough of you, Hermione. I don't think I've ever been cared for by anyone as much as I have by you. I may not remember, but I know that your touch is the first time I've felt that touch of love, as a man, in my whole life. Severus was a wretched, lonely man." His hands slipped up to encircle her breasts.
"Raven," she groaned, feeling him harden against her back.
He kissed the back of her neck and then drew his teeth against her neck.
"Ohhh," she cried, quivering against him. "That's very sensitive."
He laughed and then did it again as he teased her nipples to tight hard nubs. She leaned back far enough for him to give her a kiss, and then she twisted around, straddling him. She flexed her back, lying back over his legs, and he took her breast into his mouth and sucked on it.
"Raven!"
"Yes," he smiled against her breast. "You can wait. I'm enjoying myself."
She rose suddenly, pushed up on his shoulders, and then let herself slide down on his hard shaft.
"Impatient, are you, my wanton wench?"
"You got that right." She nodded, closing her eyes and moving up and down on the hardened shaft.
They moved in tandem, determined to reach their climax together. But this time, it built up slow, smooth, and steady.
They muffled their cries of pleasure with a deep, long kiss.
Later, lying in the big bed, they whispered their love to each other.

I noticed a couple of small things: you used aide when it should be aid, and timber when it should be timbre.
Response from gersknightlady (Author of Raven)
I appreciate the heads-up but I could not find Timber/timbre. I thought it would be where he sings Harry to live and yet it's not there. I re-read the chapter twice and it didn't jump out a me.so much for your help.Thank
It probably doesn't matter at this time, but I've noticed a lot of errors: spelling and grammar. Also, there were Indians in Romania?I am enjoying your story however.
Response from gersknightlady (Author of Raven)
Well, if there are a lot of errors they have slipped by the TPP ladies. If you want to send them to me I can run them by them and see if they can be fixed. The chapters go through quite a stringent process. I'm glad you are enjoying the story.

Is he so thoughtful because he is magical or because he is Severus Snape? I can't even get my husband to initiate ad take me on a date and I've been married 33 years. Our last date was to go see the last Deathly Hallows and I planned that one. He is a loving stick in the mud.

I'm not sure. I think once Severus Snape loves and is loved back. I think the whole world would open for him.Well at least hes loving. It could be worse :)

It looks like Grendal is rejuivinated by children. That's a wonderful idea. I hurt so bad tonight I can hardly think. I wish I had a pet like him. My feet feel like they have been held in burning coals and then put in clamps. I can't sleep and I'm dreading work, tomorrow. I have peripheral neuropathy from unknown causes. Some days are worse than others.

A very Happy Chritstmas. Severus is 10 times more thoughtful than most guys. He bought her a wedding dress, how cute.
Response from gersknightlady (Author of Raven)

The cauldron ring was a brilliant idea! It is very original. And, I am so glad Xenophilius is there! I really like him and am so glad Luna gets to have her dad. I'm glad to see Moody still alive too. Too bad for the Weaselys Fred isn't here. How did you decide who to keep alive and who to leave passed away? I have no criticism on the matter, just observing and wondering about the process of deciding who to bring back into the story. Great chapter!

Not sure how I chose who lived and who died. I didn't like Freds death anymore than the others but I had to leave some war casulties and I guess he was one of the first so I left it that way. I really didn't think it out much.Thank you I'm glad you liked it.

Seeing Severus tonight at the ball should help Ginny understand better what Hermione sees in Severus. But she is a girl and it is normal for her not to be attracted to men old enough to be her father. I, on the other hand, have always been attracted to older men. I've been inordinately "boy/man crazy" since I was literally 5 years old. LOL. My first crush was Davey Jones from the Monkeys. Allowing Harry to see the memory of his mother and Harry's mother is extremely generous. That was very very personal. I wonder how Severus will react seeing it a second time? It changed him and gave him back his memories of Raven. He was extremely emotional afterwards. I wonder if he will be able to be OK when seeing it with Harry. I understand that he and Hermione share way more with one another than anyone else does because of Severus' special needs to see Hermione's mind and Hermione seeing his pensive memories. They are comfortable with it now, but most people would feel more like Ginny does about it. I know Severus probably wants Harry to see how much he was loved as a baby. However, Harry will also be hearing his mom say she let Severus down. He will surely have conflicting feelings about that. It won't be easy for either of them to see. I'm sure Severus wants to let Harry know that he can consider him a godfather. I totally trust Harry, but I've learned in life that you can't trust very many people with too much personal information. They are only human and are bound to veiw that information from a position of thier own self interest. They are bound to let someone down even if they are sorry later. But most of the time they aren't sorry because don't even realize how hurtful they were or don't care. Severus will need to find a happy medium regarding who he trusts his most tender feelings with. Changing the subject, I wonder what Minerva thinks about Hermione and Severus snogging in front of all the students.

I adored the Monkees when I was a kid. I got to see them last year in Bakersfield on their last tour together. Davey was so full of energy and danced all over the stage. He was a joy to see again.Thats was a huge step for Severus, sharing the memory. True people who haven't shared someoes thoughts might think it an invasion. Ginny doesn't know the love and trust they have developed for eachother.Maybe she would think "its about time" LOL... But then shes a propper o'l biddy. (said very fondly) :) I honestly don'tremember how I wrote it.

Great chapter!!! Everyone is coming along quite well. I love happy stories. I don't know why sad stories get so much credit. Entertainment should take one away from the pain of real life in my opinion. I think that is why many of us got hooked on Harry Potter initially when it was still fun and magic was amazing, even though we were adults. Then it went down hill and I only kept reading because I cared about the characters and felt the need to see how she resolved so much conflict, pain and betrayal. I kept hoping for things to improve, but they only got worse. I hated the last book. I hated the ending too. She killed too many people she didn't need to kill. And especially if she had to kill Severus she did it in such an un-Snapish way. Severus Snape would have been prepared for Nagini. She'd made him too smart to die that way. She also made Hermione too intelligent to be able to stay with Ron forever. She would have grown past him, though she would always love him. They don't make a believable adult couple. Your story is 100 times better. Thank you for not letting Doby be dead. That was just too much death for me. I'm sorry Ron has to be dead, but I understand it better than killing Severus and leaving him with such an unresolved tragedy of a life. I wonder if, in her mind, he met Dumbledore on the other side the way Harry did. I know publishers make you change a story a lot. At least the result left a lot of us the drive and strong need to set Severus Snape's story right. We SS fans felt the need to make more sense of his death. I truly didn't see it coming until the last story. I kept waiting for her to reveal his truth, and I thought she would give him some closure, some compensation for his suffering. Although she showed us why he protected Harry and that he wasn't evil, which were huge questions; she left him dead in a stupid way and with only pain, pain and more pain taken to the grave. Her story left me completely unsatisfied.

Your emotia cons are so entertaining LOL. I was cringing about the mob but see it's not directed at me wheew.I agree with you the cannon books leave a lot to be desired. Why did Harry have to lose every one and everything that he loved. Even his owl. Its a wonder Ginny and Hagrid surived.I also agree with you one the HG?RW pairing. It has never worked for me. I hated having them together at the end. They were polar opposites and would have never stayed together.I think allof us who wrote HG/SS fic found the books lacking. That's why we write... we need to give him a better ending.

Quite beautiful. I'm glad everyone got to feel Severus' song of love. This will do much to make everyone feel closer to Severus. I hope Harry can love him too. I know I said that in the last review. I know Harry is a good and kind boy with a lot of love, so I'm sure he will be able to. What about the elder wand? Breaking the edler wand was a big deal regarding Harry. I wonder if you include this in your story some how so we know he did break it, since he didn't have a chance to in this version of how he killed Voldemort. It's OK if you didn't, though.
Response from gersknightlady (Author of Raven)
I'm not sure when I wrote this how aware I was of the elder wand. I don't think it's included in this story at all. The fnal moview came after, sure I'd read the books but since it was such a different take on the end it wasn't included.

I'm glad he found out Lily didn't hate him. It must have been terrible to watch the grief of his mother and Lily at losing him to the Dark Lord. But he must have forgiven them so that he was able to remember Raven's life and his love for Hermione. Hermione will be fine. Now he will be able to love Harry like a godson. I hope Harry can love him back.

The idea of giving Raven's memories back to Severus is brilliant! I'm really glad he mom left him the memory necklace. I wonder how she did it without her wand. Maybe after Severus' dad was gone she got another one. It must be hard for Hermione to have not taken him back to the cave. He was very pitiful. I wonder if he is blocking Raven's memories or if it is a result of the curse. This last memory of his mom after he killed his dad was good for him. Now maybe he can forgive her. The more he forgives the other people who loved him but weren't perfect, the more he will be able to forgive himself.

Thank you, I'm glad you found some things to like in this chapter. Maybe she really did have some wandless magic or she did get another one (good observation that I missed).opps I got ahead of my self. I'm supposed to be in the teen chapters.

I admit I was surprised that Severus didn't finish. However, this is great story telling. It will turn out well, I think. I hope the Weasely's keep quiet. Maybe only Aurthur and Ginny should be there until Severus finishes the spell. It would be less pressure, I think. Maybe Hermione needs to give him permission to love his best friend's son. Acknowledge that he loved Lily and it's OK to keep the good memories. I understand his guilt, but Peter Pettigrew is the friend who really betrayed them to Voldemort. Severus was the one who had them hidden. When he told Voldemort the prophesy he didn't know it would be about Lily's son, did he? I can't remember. I think Lily has forgiven him. If she knew that her life and Jame's were given so that her son could defeat Voldemort, I think she would have been willing to make that sacrafice. She was fighting Voldemort too. If she hadn't died for Harry, Harry would not have been able to defeat the Dark Lord. She also helped defeat Voldemort by her sacrifice. I'm certain Severus has never looked at it that way.

I think it was a shock to him and it starled him enough to make him lose his concentration spoiling the spell. He will come back. No I don;t think he thought at first it would be Lily's son. I don;t think he would have told Voldy if he had known it. I think Lily has too. Your right she would have given her life for the cause. I never thought of it that way either and so we see they were more alike than we thought. Thanks so much for the thoughts and the review.

Great job! Just enough angst to make it exciting but not so much as to make it too stressful for a weary soul. I'm really enjoying this story.

I don't understand why they have decided not to make love at Hogwartz until after Harry is free. What am I missing? I'm really happy about his encounter with Neville. That's a healing for Neville too. His fear of Severus has been painful. He is such a good boy. He and Luna do really match. I'm so happy for them both. The Gypsy experience was a great chapter. Thanks.

Well hey I really don;t know why i amde that decision. Being un-Married and it being a school for children is probably the reason. Maybe they just need it to be more formal. Finish up what they set out to do and then see where they stood with eachother. Who knows This was written years ago lol.I'm glad you liked the Gypsies.

Kisses, kisses!!!! I didn't think he could keep away from her until Harry was fixed. It's all good. She needed it and he needed it now they will need eachother. I knows she made love to him even if he doesn't think he made love to her. If he was worried about her loving Ravan instead of him I think some of his worries can be laid to rest. It can only get better now. I feel it.

Yes Kisses, you know a man and his needs. But she had the same needs. It was a chnace to connect and show him she can be with him as well. Thats she want's to be with him and it's now all Raven. Thanks for hanging in there :)

I suppose she can't ask him to forgive her can she? She doesn't know he stood outside the door, but she knows he kissed the daylights out of her. I think that before much time goes by she needs to sincerely apologize without being overly emotional, but say she respect his wishes if he wants to continue as if the kisses never happened. It seems like the adult thing to do. To ignore it would be immature.

Well I'm not sure what scene yur talking about but it will get worked out. She's alot younger and also insecure and some times her youth can get the better of her. She can be immature.

There are too many chapters left for this not to get better. Hermione needs to somehow show him that she didn't love Raven just to get Harry back. She needs to give him the memories she and Raven made. She also needs to give him the necklace. Some careful way she needs to let him know that she read his jounals and watched the memories with Raven and that she knew all those things about him but still fell in love with him. Maybe she should write him a letter and tell him, but promise never to bring it up again unless he does first. She can promise to just be a collegue and a friend no matter what he decides. And let him know she will always love him no matter what he does. Then just be there for him. I also wouldn't say a word about Harry unless he did. After he wakes Harry, he will see that she cares for him even after he does what she wants and that she isn't just using him. I bet he can't last until the end of the potion they have to prepare. Well, at least a little of the real him will break loose I think.

There is a lot of fear in the man and insecurities. He can't beleive someone can love him and he has to have his time to come to terms with what Raven and Hermione had. Give him some time. He want's someone tolove him for who he is and he just has to see she can be the one.

I thik I might have waited in the cave for a while in case he came back if I was her. If I was her I might wait at Spinner's End. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if that is where he went. But I guess that would be invading his personal space too much. I think I might send the memories there and leave them for him in plain sight. I believe he would look at them. I would also leave the necklace with the memories and the journal. If I ddin't hear from him in a couple of weeks I would check there then back at the cave. Now that she knows where it is, she can find it again.

Yes, she can. But she's afraid right now and waiting it out to see what will happen. I think she would act soon if nothing happens. He would only toss her out on her ear.... he needs time.
