It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

Reviews for The Price of Madness
Ah... come back, dear author. Give me some more! Teehee. I can't wait to see what Snape was up to.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Could you imagine having a mad potions maker exploding things in your basement? I admit that I'm having too much fun with that! :D Thanks, Sun! :)
Hehe, just wanted to be review number 300! I'll be back with a regular one after I read!!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Woo-hoo! Happy 300! :)
Love this story. Hope RL is going okay for you and that we see an update soon.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you are enjoying it, and I've finally managed an update. Thanks and happy reading! :)
That was very intense! He seems rather taken with that suit of armor, doesn't he? Anyway, very good.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Lol, he does seem fond of it. Thanks, Zambi! :)
Well, I haven't read much yet, but I just had to say that you have a wonderful writing style and already the plot is fascinating!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you are enjoying it so far! Thanks! :)
Trollop :D
Better than minx would have been..
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I am fond of minx as well! :D Thanks! :)
Hmm, 'trollop' is okay, although since Draco is 'boy' I wonder why he doesn't just call her 'girl.' I'm glad they've had a 'proper kiss,' and will add this 'trollop/whore' business to the long list of Pook mysteries to be answered by the end of this fabulous story. You are so good at keeping us all guessing!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
The reasoning behind "trollop" is simple. Because it made me giggle. :D Thanks so much, June! :)
Yet another lovely, bittersweet chapter! In one way it's a very sad story, with his madness in the middle of the war, but somehow I always end up with a happy, bubbling feeling in my stomach while reading this! I really love the way you have their relationships grow, not only between Hermione and Severus, but also between Severus and Harry and even Ron. Excellent job!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I've been doing my very best not to let this tale get too maudlin, and I'm glad that you like that. I'm also glad to hear that you are enjoying the character interactions. Thanks so much! :)
This is such a bittersweet chapter! Especially when Severus whisperes "Hermione" to the suit of armor; that's so touching and sad. The kissing and the chemistry between them is absolutely delicious. I absolutely LOVE this story! More, please?!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you are enjoying it! Thanks! :)
I am laughing so hard my chest hurts. Trollop! Going into spasms again. Poor, poor Hermione. I take it the curse cast is responsible? As an aside, I have to say thank you, PlaidPooka. I was having a bit of a blue morning (my children have been in Florida for the last three weeks with my ex-husband and I'm beginning to miss them very much now). This chapter really cheered me up. THANK YOU!!Back to the story. Finally, Hermione gets a proper buss. Kept her up half the night, but that just means it was worth the wait. Snape is still sexy, mad or sane. I think when he comes back to himself Hermione may be a bit intimidated. After all, normal Snape is very much a grown up. (Blinking hard not to smirk and follow with obvious dirty comment.) I wonder how Snape is going to react to her now customary role of care-giver. Single men over thirty are very difficult with nurturing women, they are so used to taking care of themselves. Snape, in particular, strikes me as singularly independent. Then again, if even in his madness Snape is striving to please her, perhaps Snape in love is more accepting.I felt so bad for Snape when he was processing the plants. How frustrating and embarrassing to find something that one is expert in normally, present such difficulty. Hermione's lucky that Snape has such formidable self-control. Anyway...loved it! Waiting for your update eagerly!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that I could cheer you up a litle bit. It must be very hard to be away from your children for so long! Lol! Yes, Severus and Hermione will definitely have a bit of adjusting to do when he gets some of his marbles back. But who knows, sometimes the most independent of men find out that they like being fussed over a little bit. ;) Thanks so much for your kind comments! :)
Squeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ok, now I've got that out of my system!) I admit that when I started this I wasn't too keen on the whole insaneSeverus thing. But everyone else seems to love this story and it did win that award, so I kept reading. And boy, am I glad I did. Because by the time I got to chapter three I was so deeply pulled into the plot, I couln't stop reading. In fact, I read it all up to chapter 19 without stopping or moving once. ^_^ I'm normally a very bad reader, as I hardly ever review anything, even my favorite stories. But I feel that I just have to tell you how wonderful your story is (though I'm sure you've heard it before). I especialy love your portrayal of Hermione, because she's close enough to canon to be believeable. It's also nice to find a HBP compliant fic that just so happens to agree with most of my theories. ^_^ So thank you, ever so much, for writing this wonderful fic and entertaining me quite wonderfully on an otherwise boring night. You have gained yet another faithful follower of this story. I'm anxiously awaiting the next update!Regards,Morgan
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
How sweet! I'm so pleased that you are enjoying the story so far, and it's very kind of you to take the time to tell me so. I was very worried about starting a post-HBP fic, then I finally decided on this idea and jumped into it. I'm glad that you are finding it believable. And thanks for your comment about Hermione. I'm doing my best to let her grow a bit and fall in love without making her unrecognisable. Thanks so much! :)
Great chapter. Loved the teasing back and forth. Where Severus call the suit of armor Hermione, just pulls at the heartstings. Can't wait for the next updte.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I am really enjoying this story and every single new chapter is like a bar of chocolate, something new, a treat to unwrap and enjoy slowly.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
How sweet! Lol, litterally and figuratively! thank you so much! :)
Ah that was so sad at the end...welll more bittersweet, poignant even, when Snape called the suit of armor "Hermione"! Wonderful chapter Pooka. Love to see the emerging relationship between them as they both struggle with Snape's madness and their emotions. But I wonder what type of potion Snape is concocting? Thanks.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm glad that you like their emerging relationship, because it seems to be taking forever for it to emerge! I'm afraid that Severus hasn't told me what he's brewing. I asked him, but he said "It's none of your business, you plaid whore!" Thanks! :)
Slut?! Cunt?! ROTFLOL!! Pook, you are truly, truly brilliant! To write a tale so tender, so funny, so heart-wrenching is truly a gift. I eagerly await your next chapter!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm glad that the "name game" bit made you giggle. I got a kick out of it! Thank you so much! :)
You're making me cry, Pooka! How many more chapters?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Awww! I'm sorry I made you cry! I don't know how many more chapters exactly, but I think we are past the half way point. Thanks! :)
Hey! This was a quick updated. The interaction of this two is so well done, sweet and tender. Heartbreaking too
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! More soon, i hope! :)
More! More! More!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! :)
I like very much how you develop this relationship. It reads like action. It is as if your main plot line is development of their relationship, while everything else, searching for Horcruxes and ways to destroy them, searching for answers to madness and healing, and all other actions of the Order members gets revealed as a side line, here and there. Excellent, actually, because their relationship has become the priority to both of them. Getting better all the tiyime...
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
It's true that the fic is largely relationship oriented, but the other bits will have their moments as well. It's much more fun to play with hermione and Severus that to blather on about Horcruxes! :D Thanks so much for the lovely review! :)
The Price of Madness is my absolute favourite story, I just love it!!!Getting a mail telling that there is a new chapter up, makes my day, and I am so looking forward for you to solve the story at the end.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Reviews like yours make my day as well! Thanks! :)
A lovely goodnight chapter. As always thank you for writing and I eagerly await the next installment
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you for reading! More as soon as I can manage it! :)
Oh, Pook! I loved every single word of this chapter! You know exactly how to feed your hungry whorish fans. I adored the kiss on his bed, followed by her utter frustration and inability to find relief; I'll bet Severus could have helped her out, there. And I adored her teasing him the next morning, nearly kissing him and then walking away; how can one resist a Slytherin threat not to mess with him? His quest to find a more acceptable name for her was priceless. And his final word with the armor, calling it "Hermione," makes me wish more than ever to know more about what caused the madness, and how it might be cured. You know how I feel about this story, Pook. Bless you, and thank you for the fast update.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Darlin', you are the sweetest! Lol, I had to put that bit about Hermione's frustrations in. It can take a while to figure out! And, as you said, she just might get a little instruction... But that's another chapter entirely and I shouldn't spoil it! I also had to let hermione get a bit of her own back the next morning. It was only fair! :D Thanks!
Magnificent. I might have chosen wench, but trollop is good.
You are so good!!!!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I almost went for wench! :D I was trying to decide between trollop, wench, and strumpet! Thanks! :)
Okay, I have been following this story for a while now, and I must say I am enjoying it very much. The pasing(sp?) is just right, and the mysterie of what happend to Severus takes a nice long time to be unraveled, but you are not boring us in the meantime. Somehow everything fits.Thank you for such a good read. And I am not going to tell you to hurry up with the next chapter, because that might interfere with the quallity
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
How sweet! I am working on the next chapter, but it might be a little bit before it gets finished. Thanks for your comment on the pacing! That's something I've been worried about in this story. It seems to be taking its own sweet time, but I don't want to rush it either! Thanks so much! :)
Trollop! Isn't that sweet? Hermione's right that it beats all the alternatives. lol I'm going barmy myself trying to understand the Madman's relationship with that suit of armor. Apparently it's a safe substitute for a friendly confidante. He can certainly trust it not to reveal his secrets. You're doing such a great job portraying this Madman that I quite empathize with Hermione trying to deal with all his moods and contradictions. More, soon, please? ~

I've always liked the word "trollop." It's almost cute, in spite of its whorishness. :D You've hit the nail on the head with the armor. He can talk to it all he wants, and it won't give him any cheek! ;) Thanks so much! more as soon as I can manage it. :)
