Reviews for The Godfather
And when they've reached the bottom, they'll climb to the surface, right? because right now, they're very much at the bottom.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Yes, I think so.
Funny title, but the chapter was heart breaking. However, since he knows he's dead on the inside perhaps he can start to live again. Very well written.
This made me cry. Great story thus far, and I'm eager for more! Thanks for translating this one for those of us who do not read German ...
Oh! The angst! Please don't leave us hanging like this!
Dark Severus is making an appearance. Very interesting twist.
Two such lonely people. I can't help but wonder if Snape could recognize her loneliness as well as her tears. I'm glad that she and Ron have found some closure. Perhaps now the awkwardness will start to ease and they can return to being true friends. Snape seems to be taking quite an interest in the baby. Perhaps he has a new reason to live?
Intense chapter! Full of heartbreak... Poor Severus and Hermione. The translation was *very* well done!
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Oh Professor, your praises always make my day!
Very interesting start. Typical of Harry to forget to mention the important points. Lovely to see Hermione still willing to clean up the mess after him. I like Hermione's Slytherin edge there, saving the trump card for last.
Harry should of stopped Severus from talking when he saw Hermione. Then this mess wouldn't of happened. Please don't leave us in suspense.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
While I guess you are right, I can understand him, too. He might have feared that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Moreover: are you capable to use the full power of your intellect before 6 in the morning, especially after you have carried a wailing baby around half of the night?
So now she will get to make him understand the difference between RAPE and unintentional eavesdropping. What an ASS.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
ass-worthy behaviour indeed. This man is a wreck.
oooh....chilling. I like the end. snape is ruthless.
Wow, I loved how Severus just pinned her against the was and used Legilimens on her. It was a harsh reality check, but it worked.
I don't know if I like where this seems to be going, but we'll have to see how the next few chapters develop. I was confused by the word "reclined," but then I decided you must mean "retreated." Recline means to lie down. Retreat means to back away. However, other than that I thought the translation was well done.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Thanks again for the hint. I changed it immediately, writing "her instincts told her to retreat" in the first instance and "she backed away involuntarily" in the second. These are, in fact, the small things why professionals usually only translate INTO their mother tongue. Luckily, I do not get any money for this ;-)

I admire you so much for translating into a non-native language! You are really doing a fine job! It must be an excellent exercise for you.

(BLUSHING)
Oh dear, Hermione could be in trouble now... I liked this vulnerable side of Professor Snape.I thought the translation was well done. My only comment might be that instead of Harry asking "How was Lily?" he might have said "Who was she," or "What was Mom like?" Asking who she was or what she was like the more normal way an English speaker would ask that question.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Now that you write that, I understand very well. Might have been too literal (word by word) on that one. I will change it immediately. Thank you!
With that act, Severus has evened the field, but in a bad way.
"He looked her up and down in the intense manner that made her feel as if she were a rare but disgusting insect whose reactions he wanted to study." This was a brilliant line!As was this: They were holding each other tight and smiled, now that they had experienced for the first time that there was magic that needed no wand. Magic that came right from inside of them, from their love for each other and the indescribable spell that formed through the union of body and soul. OK, so a few lines...This story is so touching. The characterizations are flawless, and the words are so artfully strung together. Lovely.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Huh, why don't they have a blushing smiley here..."The words are artfully strung together"... honestly! How do you expect me to get out of the house with that big head of mine
Wow, he can really be bastard sometimes, but I really like your portrayal of the hurt Severus.Grat work, I want more!
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
You'll get more, don't worry. I am translating chapter 10 right now.
He doesn't forgive easily, does he?
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Did you expect him to?
I really like the story so I ran the German chapters through Babelfish to get an idea how things will develop. Sadly, it's not finished there either. I'd just like to say that I think your translation is amazing. You have a good command of english language. :)
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Argh - I get a rash whenever I hear the term "Babelfish"!!!"The president apologized with his wardrobe" "He touched Ms Lewinsky's tenon underwear" (excerpts from the Lewinsky report, translated by Babelfish. The original sentences were "The president apologized with his cabinet" and "He touched her lace underwear"...
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
I had to take a break to tend to RL matters...Thank you very much for your praises regarding my English... I am flattered!
Response from funny music (Reviewer)
I know about Babelfish. I got tired of the page calling Hermione "IT"! :)
two wrongs don't make a right. stuborn Severus.
To be honest, this Severus needs to grow up and move on. While I can understand that he reacted to Hermione overhearing his words to Harry, there should be a limit to how many "issues" he is allowed to have. The years as a spy and slave to two masters has obviously made him mentally unstable. Hermione did say she was sorry, she admitted her curiousity, an honesty no Slytherin would ever submit. It is obvious that Severus transfers all his hate for Gryffindors, past and present, onto Hermione and he has done so for years. A "normal" reaction would have been to be angry for her listening in, leaving the house also acceptable, never speaking to her again, just fine. This mind-rape he performs here shows that he is still no more than that angry, petty, social inept teenager he was back when he got him self a tattoo on his left arm. He crosses so many bonderies, if Hermione wants to do something for him (though I wonder why she should after this), she should get him a good pchycarist or some quality time at a instutition somewhere, she should never, ever lower her self to beg him of forgiveness for anything, and she should make it clear to him and Harry / Ginny that they all will be better of if they do their best to never be in tha same house at the same time ever again! I am sooooo mad at him, I am totally unable to see any redeamable qualities in him at the moment.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Thank you very much for this very detailed comment. I agree wholeheartedly - when I first read this chapter, all I could think was "oh my god, let the girl run and never come back"... But the story does not end here, so we must presume that this most logical choice you offer will not be made.
I feel bad for Severus. I really do. Hermione should have never listened in, but this is so sad. I don't see how they are going to get past it.
Wow.. I didn't expect that VERY ANGRY SNape. Looking forward to the next chapter! Update soon!
GO SNAPE! He just tore her down, didn't he? Hermione needs taken down a notch or two sometimes. I love your explanation of his perception of Hermione and potions
I like your version of DH much better. Hermione and Ron break up.. just not meant for each other. :)
