Hermione wants to learn Occlumency, but Severus Snape is not known for his generous nature. Both may learn more than they bargained for before the tale ends.
This is canon-compliant with books 5 and 6 and provides a behind-the-scenes story that JKR never even guessed...

Someone who really, REALLY ought to be doing something else, but just keeps on writing.
Wondering why my stories take forever? Have a look at My Other Time Devourer: www.willametteartcenter.com I'm both the webmaster and the president of the Friends of the Visual Arts, a 501-C3 nonprofit in Salem, Oregon. We Put The Fun Back In Art.
Having 2 sweet little boys tends to drag things out too.
And what the heck, as long as it's self-pimpage time: If you just can't wait for the next chapter of Fair Ex, you can always go buy my book. It's not HP or fanfic but it's got that Fawkesy snark (in spades) It's here: www.turondo.com Warning: there's a bad word in the title.

Ah ... how lovely to see her faith in him and to know that he truly is worth every ounce of it.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
*grin* It's not easy being Snape, is it?
Gah! Cliffy of all cliffy's!
I can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
You can NOT tell me that the cliffy where he was making out with Draco wasn't cliffier than this cliffy....
Response from ancientgirl (Reviewer)
No way, this is much cliffier. It's the cliffiest of the cliffy's
Another cliffie …Ohmmmm, Ohmmmm …
Practicing peacefulness and patience …Ohmmmm, Ohmmmm …
SIGH ... it’s not working …
Small talk to pass the time... Enjoyed the comments about Ron.
… tapping foot in irritated waiting.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Be one with the cliffie. More will follow.
So what? He's going to kill Harry and Voldemort? That's the only thing that will end "It" altogether, so he can live some other way. Please tell me I'm mistaken!I have to say, you are the first author who can write faster than I can read (although, if I had a working machine of my own, and not this lumbering public portal, things would be different)....
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Well, there IS another life he could end...namely his own...Most of this stuff has been written for ages, in fact tomorrow will be the last daily update for a while, as I need to catch up on HBP!
Response from KarenDetroit (Reviewer)
What do you mean, catch up on HBP?And if he ended his own life, that would negate the possibility of changing his life.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Ah, I see my evil ploy to mislead has flopped. I wanted to re-read HBP before going on in the story, just to make sure I keep canon-compliant. That's going to take some time. Then I have to write the stuff.
It was so beautiful when they were reunited again. I felt so much... it's indescribable. The emotion was tangible as I took in the words. I am so empathetic for both of them and I could tell even before Sev's confession that things weren't about to get easy for the two of them. It would never be easy for them though Dark Lord or no right? Really very touching.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
awwwwww...Thanks! You know, I think even after voldy's out of the picture, they're not going to have it easy...
Oh good, Hermione's back. Oh bad, yet another cliffhanger. I hope by that he means he's going to shatter the rules and do something very naughty with Hermione, but somehow I doubt that. It'd be far too nice a thing for you to let Severus experience. If he confesses what happened while she was out of the picture, I wonder if she'd forgive him before a chapter or two of being angry and launching hexes.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Perhaps he means he's tired of life itself...
You mean Severus wants to end the secret, not the relationship, right?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
maybe, maybe...or maybe he's tired of living, period.
I'm in the library (since my computer is vacationing at a Hewlett-Packard Spa in California) trying desperately not to gaffaw all over the computer center....are you finished, dear author? Can we PLEASE get back to the original storyline here? I never thought I'd be pleading with an author....
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Sigh....oh, very well. *pouts* I believe you'll find the next chapter refreshingly normal. Mostly.
Sirius? you're kidding,right?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Hey, Snape's motto is "Whatever It Takes," after all.
Ah, the Sirius card. Nice thinking, I bet he hated having to tell Draco that with every fibre of his being. He really is clever though, no wonder Hermione and Draco(and the Centauras, he, he) want him. The chapters were good; I'm just not very comfortable with guy slash.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Well, think of it as a way to expand yourself as a reader (believe me, this story has been an expansion as a writer for me, and I'd hate to be the only one expanding around here...)
OMG! I get that you're trying to write about how Sev is crafty and trying to make better the situation, but eww.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Fear not, for our Snape is beyond crafty.
Ha ha ha! That was great. He gets out of Draco's clutches & gets to thumb his nose at Sirius, even beyond the veil!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
A red-letter day for Snape, indeed.
100 housepoints to the House of Fawkes.Wicked as it is, the groping of Snape becomes quite hilarious. OK, the man is irrestible, but how he worms his way out of this, is sly indeed. The wild ladies of the wood were a bit overpowering, but within the castle sofar, he's quite the genleman (cough cough).Hermione will forgive him his lies, but will the Wolf do the same?
Response from arveyo (Reviewer)
Ok, that had to be "gentleman".Have to be careful with all the betas around here.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
"House of Fawkes"I prefer to think of it as the Order of the Phoenix *wink*"will the Wolf do the same?"*sporfle* I think Snape better make sure that Reem and Draco never get together for a chit chat...
*tries to contain laughter*
This is the 2nd (SS/HG) fic that I read in which someone within the story states the lie that Snape and Sirius were lovers. The first story being titled "Lost and Found" on FF.net. (The story is a continuation of another story on the site called "Missing In Action", but it ignores the last two sentences.)
You had me worried at the end of chapter 28. I thought Snape was actually going to start a relationship with Draco. (That thought horrified me to no end.) I'm glad that I was proven wrong.
I eagerly await the next chapter.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Oh, no! Someone beat me to that? Sigh. Well, was it actually SNAPE confessing to it in that story? *hopes not* And I bet it didn't have centaura in it...
Response from Rageful Jewel (Reviewer)
In the other story, Voldermort had wrote that in a letter. The impression I got from "Missing In Action" (prologue to "Lost & Found") was that Snape confessed to while he was being tortured.
Here's the link to both stories if you want to check it out:

Hmmmm...maybe I will--but I have to write some more of Fair Ex before I lose all my readers, so it will have to wait.
My, that Severus does pretend to get around, doesn't he? Two Malfoys and a Black...
Looking forward to the next chapter, and thank you for a much-needed laugh.Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
The guy has quite the imagination, doesn't he?
Oh dear gods, this is hysterical. Some of Snape's one-liners had me in stitches. A SADDLE for Umbridge!!! BWAHAHAHA! Snape and Sirius as lovers! *scream of hysterical laughter* That's brilliant.
But ooooh boy, Hermione's going to be in a snit when she finds out. Not only FOUR Centaura, but Draco *too*?! *wince*
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
I know, I wonder what Mrs. Black's portrait is going to do when SHE finds out...
Just as soon as Severus said, "My lover was killed last night... at the Ministry." I knew what you were going to do.
I had just taken the first sip of very hot tea, the cup still held over the keyboard ... it was a touch and go thing for a second or two. I managed to set the cup down and swallow the tea without nary a drop spewing all over my leather desktop, the keyboard or the telephone.
Aside from The Truth [review for Ch 28] - there was this way out. I will never doubt you again. You are perfection. Dare I admit it ... I am impressed, young Fawkes.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Okay First of all: ALWAYS...no, wait, NEVER drink or eat while reading my fics! You should know that by now.B) I'm totally stoked that it didn't get transparent until the sentence before the spike. Go me.3. The cheerleader icon and the little I'm Not Worthy guy are nice, but I am so flattered to be called Young Fawkes that I can't even describe it. I'm so ancient I could practically be set in amber.
Response from Darque Hart (Reviewer)
Poor OLD Fawkes ... but you said just a few days ago that your youngest child was 9 ... my youngest is 23. To me, you are young Fawkes. Enjoy!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
*sporfle* A fellow fossil, then!
LOL, OMG! The things Severus has to do.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Exactly.
Well it looks like that plot bunny is off and running a marathon!!!! Holy Crap!! I just read this chapter and teh last at the sam etime...wowwee you have had a productive week!Very interested to see how this will come back in Snape's face, hahahaha (laughing maniacly over here)-
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Well, things do tend to come around again in their own time...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! (I think that was the linguistic manifestation of a scream.) (Maybe a few more a's.) Amazing twist. How in the world do you sleep at night? At least Sirius won't be barging into his office to yell at him for this, but if ever there was a reason for a ghost to haunt.... All brilliant, F7, just spectacular. I was laughing out loud, and my 16 year old son wanted to know why, and I swear I could not bring myself to explain why sending the Toad a saddle was so funny. He's rather innocent, for that age. It didn't help that I couldn't stop giggling.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
*grin* My pleasure. I just hope no one finds a way to pull Sirius out from that veil...
Snape resolved to send the Toad a saddle for Christmas every year for the rest of her life.*SPEW*Am I a really bad person for almost wanting some Sev/Draco action?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Heck no! I just regret that Sev had his big apotheosis so soon!
LMAO! I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Laugh, it's better for your cholesterol.
lmao good god. He's digging a ditch isnt he?good update.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
No way! It's the perfect excuse! 100% Plausible deniability, unless someone pulls Sirius back out of that veil...then it'll hit the fan, in spades.
Response from CinnamonMonty (Reviewer)
Hahaha good point, fair enough ^_^
Uh Oh! Somehow I see his decision to use Sirius as his get-out-of-jail-free card with Draco as coming back to bite him in the butt. If nothing else this will be really interesting when Harry, Remus, and not to mention Hermione find out -- because of course everyone will find out. Oh ***rubbing hands together*** this is getting SOOO good! Thanks for sharing, JoAnne
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
They might, or maybe not...I haven't decided that far ahead yet. It's sure a good thing Draco wasn't sorted into Gryffindor, though, or it might as well be written on a neon sign...
The jury is still out on this... I am dreading how Hermione is going to feel about all of this. She will find out, you know; it leaves too big of a hole in the plot for her NOT to. I guess I am reacting to events in my own past that are far gone, yet forever too recent to forget.
Anyway, the Master of Deception has made it through again, even though probably not unscathed. Now, Draco will think that Snape cheated on Lucius with Black and hose Snape because NOBODY could keep a secret like THAT.
Lies just get deeper and deeper. So can plot twists.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
Whoa, hang on--Draco doesn't know about Lucius. Umbridge didn't circulate that part at Hogwarts. Draco would have a fit if he "knew" that Dad was betraying Mum with Uncle...
Response from Severessa (Reviewer)
But wait a minute, then...Why did Draco think that Severus fancied men??? Did I miss something?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Fair Exchanges)
It was alluded to in earlier chapters--in fact, I think it was #9, the first one told from Hermione's POV. She ponders the fact that Draco and the other Toadies are spreading a rumor (presumably from Umbridge) that Snape is gay, but she's sure he's not after that little Drunk!Snape encounter. Snape also mentions in a chapter that he's aware of Draco spreading that rumor, and if he only knew that Snape's alleged lover is his own dad, Draco would have a cow or three...
Response from Severessa (Reviewer)
Oh, OK. Well then, that ties THAT up nicely. Thank you for clearing that up! I am hanging on to that being a rumor for dear life....
