Severus Snape has always been my fav character since I found HP. I enjoy dark, graphic stories, but will read some fluff and I love humour.

Why would Severus bring her to the Malfoy Manor? Is it really Severus?Exciting chapter, very tense. The cliffie of what happened to Severus and why his dark mark bled kind of worries me.

Fantastic as always! So, getting into guessing mode... either Severus is under the Imperious, so explaining the shaking as he fights it, or he was Crucio'ed, and is taking Hermione to Lucius's house for two possible reasons. One, Lucius has changed over and is now fighting for the Order (not!), or Lucius isn't home and Severus knows more or less where a horcrux is (but not necessarily what the horcrux is). The limp and twitching threw me off, thinking "Severus" was Wormtail. Hum. Could Wormtail have snuck into Order headquarters and heard Severus's "wipe my arse with" comment? But how would Wormtail know what Severus is like as a lover? So, are one of these guesses right? Of course you're going to tell me, "We'll see next chapter."On the relationship front, it's nice to see Severus taking better control of his behavior. Still impulsive/reactive, but better. The otter comment was very revealing. Poor guy. He's got it bad.Great job!

Once again, great writing! But, oh Lord, Malfoy Manor?? Is it really Severus, or is it Lucius, polyjuiced into Severus, sent to get Hermione? Is Lucius that good a friend to Severus that she can go to his home and still be protected? I'm a nervous wreck! I loved Hermione's perspective to their night together and was glad to find out she wasn't going to be a shy miss in regards to their wild gorilla sex! But, she thinks they are perfect together? As in the words of Filch, "Oh, you are in trouble!"Get writing! I can't wait to read more!

I've had mixed feelings about this story. On one hand, I adore the writing, but the subject material has bothered me at times. I felt almost guilty about liking the story, but it was too good not to read. I'm glad I continued reading, this is a marvelous story.

I don't think anyone can pack more action into a chapter than you can, time and time again!
The beginning was excellent, describing Hermione's feelings, both emotional and physical. And then later, when she opens the door and he's leaning there, smirking...

Fantastic love-making scene. The desperation, energy, passion, nervousness, and their feelings for each other are all well described and virtually leap off the PC screen. I am sorry it has taken me so long to catch up with the new chapters. You are writing a compelling tale.

Dear Shell S.L., Well I finally managed to catch up in your fic yesterday and when I got home from the airport etc. last night here was the next chapter. Things have developed a lot since I left off at Chapter 5! I enjoy the way you have developed Snape's character. It's a very rich, if not particularly beautiful, picture. He's not completely evil, but he's done some rotten things in his life. I’m not sure if amoral is really the word for him, but he seems to exists *between* good and evil. That’s how I interpreted the scene with the DE – he’s stoically watching, detached, critical – not squicked or judging, but not exactly getting into the “routine torture” either – but is surprised to find himself affected by it (on the other hand, he enjoyed beheading the three DE in the first chapter, didn’t he, although I think that was about power, not torture). But then he cleans up in a similarly detached but oddly compassionate manner. He’s been longing for Hermione on the only terms he knows and reaching for Hermione the only ways he knows. At the same time, he has this longing to be different and he’s starting to take some chances with that. The scene with the boggart was very, very well done, in content and writing. It conveyed just how emotionally on edge he is -- not because of living a double life, but because of his past, his self hatred, distrust and so on. He just never had a chance at a normal emotional life. This last chapter was quite true to the character you've developed -- moments of tenderness and love combined with the latent impulse to dominate and not a lot of knowledge about how to go about being kind. It was actually quite poignant. Great job. The line "don't make me force you ..." is a real cry of the heart -- I don't think he wants to but knows he will ... it's not a threat -- it's a plea.
You really have me wondering what’s going to happen. I could see this story turning out “happy” or tragic. Will Severus be able to continue his good intentions or will he take refuge in dominance? And WHAT will Hermione do when she finds out what he has done in the past to her? I am not so confident as Severus that she will forgive quickly. And that may just send him reeling backwards into power play. I like that you’ve made Hermione pretty strong here – is she going to turn the tables? And what about the dreams? Some of it is crummy obliviating (very funny that “he’s no Lockhart”!) but what of the events that haven’t happened? Did they actually happen and we haven’t heard about them? Did they happen while she was sleeping? Are they his thoughts? Are they simply warnings mixed into the fuzzy recollections? And what about when Voldemort finds out about his attachment – or is that what the burring of the mark was all about, since he can do long distance legilimans? About what about Jezzie – will Severus being the secret keeper protect the Order – but what about when Hermione finds out what he did, even if it was to protect her?
So, congratulations on developing the story so well and having all these possibilities alive. Yes, it’s dark, but it’s a compelling story, not just dark to be shocking and squicky and “different”.

PS How can I read LB72’s vignette? I went to your LiveJournal site and eventually got to Lulabelle’s and found it but it wouldn’t let me read it. I have never been on LiveJournal before so I was a little bewildered as I couldn’t figure out how to navigate at first (I know, I know, what rock have I been hiding under!). I’m still not sure I understand what it’s all about (I suppose I could have read the stuff that popped up when I registered, hmm).
PS2 Were I to write a lemony scence, it would read much like the one you described in your AN. Do you have any idea where the euphamism "Lemon" comes from? I've been wondering ...

Yes, right now, he exsists between good and evil. And he is very torn between the two worlds. ANd yes, he is very on edge, emotionally. He doesn't know love, therefore, he doesn't know really how to do it, he is guessing. Sometimes there are tender moments with him, and sometimes... erm... no. "Don't me force you" you got it... It is really sad to have to resort to that, just so he doesn't get hurt--he is so scared. I love all the questions you have, but I have to make you wait! lol. But her dreams are mixed up with the "crummy" oblivates. They are telling her things, she doesn't listen to them, they are full of things from what has happened before and just real dreams. Thank you for saying this is a compelling story, I really do try to do different things to stand out...

Hermione rolled her eyes and ran her fingers through his stringy hair. “Yes, I suppose you can say that.”He placed his two blood-soaked fingers in his mouth and sucked them clean. “Delicious,” he said. Hermione’s grin faded, and she fell backward onto the pillows, looking up at the chandelier. “What’s wrong, Hermione?”“Nothing… I--I just had déjà vu. I feel like I’ve seen you lick your fingers like that before… with the blood.” She looked at him and smiled. “It’s nothing to worry about. It was just unexpected.” This triggered something in my brain, so I went back to Chapter 6 and found the following passage describing a nightmare Hermione was having after her visit to Salazar Slytherin's Grotto:A pillow crushed down onto her face, and she struggled beneath it, gasping for air. She felt something scaling, slithering around her ankles, and she could have sworn she heard muffled hisses around her ear--OH, FUCK! She felt them moving under her thighs, gliding across her stomach, wrapping around her arms! She screamed as long and high as her voice would allow; then, suddenly, her legs were yanked apart and something hard and foreign pushed at her entrance, demanding entry. If she could have screamed any louder, she would have. Without warning, the pillow that was smothering her was pushed off her face, and staring down at her was Snape. At first she wanted to bury herself in his arms, just to know that she was alive and safe--to scream at him to make the fucking snakes disappear--but as she sucked in a breath to breathe fresh air, he snarled, “I’m going to fuck you until you bleed!” He rammed his dick inside her, splitting her into two. She tried to claw at his face, but two snakes attacked her arms, biting into her skin, the fangs piercing her veins and squirting poison into her, contaminating her blood. She knew this was her death, but she was going to fight until her last breath.“See what happens when you try to fight me?”“P-please s-stop!” she stuttered. She could feel the ice cold, tingling poison traveling through her body, and within minutes, she felt dizzy and numb, and Snape’s face was twisted as he spilled his seed inside her rapidly slackening form. The last thing she saw before the blackness overcame her was Snape, licking his middle finger, which was covered in blood. *****Every time Severus has been in an intimate situation with Hermione, Voldemort summons him! What sodding luck. In Chapter 4 when they were in Hermione's bedroom at Hogwarts, just before they could kiss, the Dark Mark on his arm burned, and he had to leave. Now that they had consummated their love for one another and were enjoying each other in the afterglow of their love making, his Mark burns viciously... Voldemort was livid. And he was taking it out on Snape. It just doesn't seem like Severus can escape Voldemort's all-knowing reach. We can only hope that he won't come back from this summons like he did the last time.This was a fabulous chapter, Shell! You seamlessly wove many threads together to tie past deeds, dreams, and the present into a wonderful tapestry. I wonder what is going to happen on the day that Hermione remembers or Severus confesses the things he has done in the past:Whatever horrible things he had done to her were in the past, and he would fix them later. He would confess and apologize, and she would understand. But right now he must show her how much he cared for her. Will she understand? Will she forgive? What unbelievable events are still to happen that will make her forgive his past transgressions and welcome him into her heart without reservation? You are a master, and I know you will work everything out... and I will be reading to find out how you do it!!!Great writing!!! And once again, I write too much.Beth

Your story had me hooked from the beginning. I finally had to spend my free sunny Sunday afternoon in front of my computer ;)I really liked how you portrayed Severus' personality .. dancing between the lines of good and evil and mostly being selfish and acting for himself. I like to think that he finally grew angry with both his masters and freed himself of them. The way you described his obsessive nature and how he finally learnt how to overcome it was a fascinating read - though I am not sure anybody could forgive the things he did to Hermione so quickly. The ending was also an interesting surprise since I first thought Hermione is dead and Severus is withering away in Azkaban. Thank Merlin it was only a devious trick of Severus' mind ;) It's kind of a more realistic ending the way you wrote it - which leaves me a bit sad (no happy ending ) but on the other hand, it makes the story more believable.Thank you very much for a very entertaining afternoon. Off to read some of your other stories :)

This chapter was sort of creepy. I don't know...perhaps the forceful way he took her? I mean...I can see where you tried to make him gentle, but it didn't come across as realistically as perhaps you hoped it would, because other lines detracted from that gentleness. I was slightly alarmed when he thought "Don't make me force you, Hermione."I also thought it weird when he told her: “You do realize I have the right to say I fucked you til you bled,”That just...seemed so innappropriate given that he just took her virginity. Also...the licking of the blood off his fingers was a little squicky. I thought the parts where he admitted to loving her and when she admitted to needing him, were beautiful. That he saved her life like that was a testiment to his feelings and his will. Again, lovely. Perhaps the lovemaking scenes to come (should there be any more) be a little more tame? I don't know. I'm just trying to be honest with you without offending you. I think you're an amazing author and I love the vast majority of your work. I look forward to the next chapter and to see what Hermione will find in the book.~

Hi there!Well, first let me say, you have not offended me. Why? because everything you are feeling about the creepyness, the saying nasty things... everything... is the perfect reaction.
There was some gentle in him, but at the same time, it was pushing the lines of dubcon, yes? Yeah it was. And it wasn't supposed to come off as realistic gentle lemons. I have reasons for everything, just ask the beta team... lol...
You must remember who we are dealing with. This man has a lot of fears, especially about her. He has never loved a person and doesn't really know how to behave outside of being with whores (that is why I mentioned that at the end)
Also, He IS creepy.
And about the fuck you till you bled thing... go back a few chapters... Hermione once had a dream that he raped her, and he said something very similar to that and licked his fingers. That is really important. Her dreams are telling her things. She just doesn't listen to them. So, that is why I mentioned the deja vu thing...
Anyway, more lemons will be coming, yes it will be 'tamer' but do remember that this is a very twisted and dark man we are dealing with, and not a romantic story (as MUCH as I would love to write 'sweet lemons' hahahah But I did that with The Time-Turner... )

Well, I'm glad my reaction was what you were going for. I'm not offended by gruesome/graphic sex scenes...I've written a lot of squicky stuff. It just seemed ultra weird given other parts of the scene. That juxtaposition and duplicity IS confusing... but I'm looking forward to future chapters and explanations. Your Snape is much more twisted than I previously had thought. I think dark, dangerous, very possessive Snape is hot. It's tricky to write him that way and still leave him likeable though. Right at the moment I'd like to slap him. Lol. I really love this fic and of course will continue reading and reviewing. I will clear my head of any and all "fluffy lemons" hope for this story and concentrate on the darker undertones and subplots you've mentioned. I might also re-read to clear up some of my questions. Wow! You and your betas did an amazing job with the "shag" scene! In the beginning I was worried that it was going to be a romantic love scene, but then, NO! LOL It was shagalicious! I really don't think Hermione is going to forgive our man, though, if he confesses what he has done to her in the past, even though she is getting flashes of memories about it.
