Reviews for The Godfather
Finally! They finally saw what was right in front of them. Perhaps some smooth sailing now? Well, I shall have to read on...
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Nothing ever goes smooth with Severus.

Again, I'm enjoying your work. It is nice to think somewhere, somehow Sirius is alive. Even if he was Ak'ed.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Oh, but he wasn't! He was hit with a curse that made him stumble and then he dropped through the veil (at least I thought so... have to read OTP again...)

WOW!! that was a very powerful chapter. That was the Snape we all know and love. Poor Hermione.

Wow, that really cut to the core. I would be forever humiliated if I was in Hermione's shoes. Anyway I have always waited for someone to write such scene between these two characters. Others wrote something along this line, but they made Snape bow down at the end. This chapter shows a rather canon Snape; for the life of me I could not imagine Snape baring his heart out and start planting daisies. Though I would very much like them to end up together a part of me hopes that they don't.This chapter summarised it: Hermione may learn to like Snape for who he is, but she is the sort of person who thinks she can make something bend to her will. Snape however is not 'bendable'; either accept him as a mean bastard or go look for Ron. Though he loves Lily he is much too bitter that it would destroy Lily if she ever chose Snape over James. Ah I'm babbling.*Hugs* to Hermione and I would very much like to smack Snape on the head ... very hard. Then again he would not be Snape if he is not a meanie.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
That was a very tough one, I admit. But as I said in other reviews - he might as well take advantage of her (but he doesn't). That says something.

Ouch, nasty cliffie! Sorry for the time it took to review, but my computer caught a social disease and needed to be repaired.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Social disease on a computer??? Get yourself a condom (firewall)!
Response from sinbad (Reviewer)
LOL! The funny thing was I had bought a anti virus program I simply forgot to install it. Needless to say I have learned a rather expensive lesson.

I love this line: "She could not have said how her anger had managed to wriggle past her humiliation and embarrassment and crawl to the surface." She is strong, she'll get through this.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Oh yes, she will. But it's a blow, nonetheless.

That was painful--extraordinarily painful--yet I feel that this is probably the most authentic sort of interaction between these two characters that I have come across in the fandom. *slinks off to sniffle and sit in the sun...*
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Oh dear, at least you have sun. All I've got at the moment is frost and snow.

I already this guy was helpless but this is the most ridiculous thing he's ever done before. I don't think a slap on the head will be enough for him *think hard to remember where I've put my whipping stick*

In Germany, we actually have a proverb that says "he/she has gotten afraid of his/her own courage". Which means that someone does something brave and then shies away from the sudden limelight/success...

I'm not sure I've read anything that dissects the cliches of this ship as forthrightly as this one does. When Severus taunts Hermione with the idea of the "bright herione who brought light and happiness into my pathetic existence", one wants to look away. Alongside the appealing qualities he displays toward his godchild, the Snape in this story also is really, truly an unpleasant person on more than just the surface, which is very disquieting. But it's great storytelling.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
On the other hand, he somehow gets to the crux of the matter, doesn't he? I can't help but think that part of Hermione's attraction is actually based on this "salvation angel" complex. I'm not quite sure whether she wants him for himself or whether she just wants herself to be his "saviour".
Response from Elisabeth (Reviewer)
Oh yes, I agree, and what's worse I think Snape's right, or at least partly right. Hermione's genuinely attracted, but part of that attraction is tied to the rescuing-angel complex, and Hermione needs to sort it out. That's what makes it so cringe-inducing!

Oh my god. What an amazing chapter. And an amazing writer. My heart actually ached while I was reading this chapter. I can't wait for the next one.

So what's up with him? Is this real, or is it protection? Whatever it is, it stinks! I'm not quite sure how I'd like to see this proceed. I'd like to think he's protecting himself and will eventually see that she truly cares for him. But even if he does that, what he said was so crass and cruel, it would take a lot for Hermione to forgive him. And so it should be, his words are close to unforgivable. But if he's just a complete prick... well, I'm not sure what I'd want from that.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Don't worry, the next two chapters will reveal a lot.

I read your response to an earlier reviewer...If (big IF) they do make it and have a relashionship...I sure hope so, he needs her big time, even if he doesn't want to...and she needs him as well...They just have to work on it...and on themselves...

Wow, what a complete *B-A-S-T-A-R-D*!That was beyond cruel, and dare I say, even slightly not Slytherin-like?If he is a man who likes to seize opportunities, wouldn't he want to butter her up so she continues to come back?

Sheesh! That is one MONSTER of a 'morning after'. What a nightmare...Poor Hermione. I hope she can find a sympathetic shoulder to cry on--at the least. I feel a strong need for fluff.
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Sorry dear, but no fluff in sight here. But there will be a shoulder, don't you worry.
Response from orm irian (Reviewer)
I never expect sweetness and light from Snape--that would be an oxymoron!I meant, that perhaps I needed to go read a fluffy, happy-ending kind of story as an antidote to the angst-filled updates I read yesterday--yours was one of three!

So much bitterness and sadness... just love it! I wish I read german so I can read more chapters sooner. But I will wait patiently for the update comming soon... right?

oh dear...~sighs some and shakes her head~ silly kids, look what you've done to yourselves now...~slaps the back of Sev's head rather hard and happily informs him that he ought to run down the street begging her forgiveness then grab her by the hair and haul her back home, all the while saying~ me man, you my woman! tadaa! then they ought to cuddle ~grins and seems pleased with herself even after she gets crucioed 8 times~
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Oh dear... does he strike you as the cuddly type? Oh no. IF there's going to be a relationship (big IF), they'll have to work hard and painfully towards it. Both of them.
Response from keske (Reviewer)
no, lol he doesn't strike me as particularly cuddly...hence the me getting crucioed. It wouldn't be a SevMione without painful struggling, if they even do form a romantic relationship. ~shrugs then hunkers down to await the next chapter~

Wow, that was intense!!! Great chapter. I was hoping Severus wasn't going to be the jerk, but apparently that's not the case. I hope he realizes his mistake and comes back begging. Looking forward to an update.

What odds the "yellow liquid" was Felix Felicis that he didn't take, thinking she'd be gone?Excruciating chapter, but very in-character and true to life in the sense that people do hurt each other this way when they are scared, stunted and confused.Much as I enjoy Steel Spine!Hermione stories in which Hermione has maturity and wisdom for two, I think this story captures Hermione's character more realistically. She is still young and relatively inexperienced after all -- and Severus is hardly an easy guy.Thank you for translating and please convey danke to Marisol for her story.RR
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
Felix Felicis? You readers have strange ideas sometimes... The potion will not be mentioned again, it was rather unimportant. Of course I will pass your praises on to Marisol - she also has my password and can look if she wants to.

No he fucking did not! HOW DARE HE?!? BASTARD!ARGH!
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
As another kind reviewer mentioned before: if he were a slimy, selfish bastard, he'd not throw her out but be just friendly enough to get her to come back. By behaving like he does, he ensures that he won't get any for quite a long time, remember?

Relapse is the perfect title for this chapter, for Severus has heard the flatness in her voice, "Where have you been?" and interpreted it to mean she was... what? Angry? Too possessive? Clinging? But he would never allow himself to think that she loved him and missed him when he wasn't there. So, rather than talk honestly about what had happened between them, they both relapsed into their uniquely individual modes of thought. He thanks he isn't deserving of another's affection. And despite being a Gryffindor, she can't summon the courage to weather the insecure storm that is Severus Snape.I was a little hurt by Harry's reaction: "It's just... I wanted more for you than this. You deserve someone to make you happy." but, of course, I would feel this way... Severus is the best! Please make this better. I just know that Severus had gone to his laboratory to brew a Potion that would help them in their building a relationship... a Contraceptive Potion perhaps, or something similar, but now it has been dashed against the wall, destroyed, and he is broken hearted and so is Hermione. Everybody just needs to slow down, take a deep breath, and work to put this back together. You write a great story, and I can't wait for the next chapter! Well done! Beth

As I wrote in another review: the trains of thought you guys come up with are very interesting. I hate to deceive you, but no: the potion in the flask was not for Hermione and he just ran away to think about the situation. He made a decision and then acted upon it.
Response from braye27 (Reviewer)
Thank you for setting my thinking straight. Sooooo, does this mean that he doesn't care for her? Or... perhaps he does care, but doesn't trust that, in the end, his heart will be broken? Don't answer that! I don't want to know till you are ready to tell the story.I'm still lovin' it!
Response from Muggline (Author of The Godfather)
As I said in another review: if he really didn't care at all and had only his own best interests in mind, he'd rather pamper her a little to get some every now and then, wouldn't he?

Well I am taking a small bit of comfort and hope from the last line of this chapter. I knew it would not be blissful morning after when I saw the chapter title, but I was hoping my expectations were wrong. It is a good chapter and it did keep Severus in character for this story. But I may have punched him, if I were Hermione. I am enjoying the story very much and look forward to seeing how it all comes out. Thanks for posting, JoAnne
