Severus Snape’s life was changed when he was hit by an errant spell, and he comes to a decision that defies Dumbledore’s wishes. Even the fate of the wizarding world is altered by this one ill-cast curse and Snape’s subsequent resolve. Long after the spell itself has dissipated, its effects continue echoing in the lives of Severus, Albus, Minerva, and Hermione, and they bring with them a shadowy figure whom Snape does not trust and whose motivations and influence on Minerva are murky. Conspiracies and schemes swirl around Severus as he continues on his path of deception to his final confrontation with the Dark Lord.

this was an extremely powerful and moving chapter. Severus is hurt in so many ways----- it isn't fair, is it? Looking forward to more
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Severus really does have it hard.

It just gets uglier the closer it comes to the battle. Severus is so close to cracking. He expects to die soon and is looking at it as the only way out. How will he deal with any of this if he doesn't?Extensive psychotherapy is going to be needed before this is over. For me. We'll get Severus some help, too.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Severus is very close to cracking, but he has support. How will he deal with this if he doesn't die as he expects? Like you say, we'll get Severus some help! Maybe from his friends -- which he had never believed he would have. Thanks for reviewing!

That was a chilling chapter. I love the fact Harry appreciates Severus while he is alive instead of J.K.R.'s ending where he was acknowledged as 'One of the bravest men I ever knew.' which I found to be not only lame but a very weak statement of what he went through as a spy.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
I'm glad you liked Harry's appreciation of Severus. Harry's dawning realisation of what he himself will likely have to do, combined with time to reflect on the events of the last six years and Severus's role in them, plus what he witnessed Severus go through and what Minerva revealed to him, all brought him to see Severus in a new light.Thank you for reviewing! I'm glad you liked it!

Yet another phenomenol chapter, rich with details and emotions. I'm happy to see an update before the holiday weekend. I feel so sorry for Snape at times. He really does have a lot on his shoulders and he's getting slammed from all sides. It can't be easy to keep his sanity and I'm glad Robbie gave him the Draught of Peace. Clever thinking on his part to give Snape something to calm his hysterics. I did have a bit of a deja vu moment, though, when Snape turned all warm and fuzzy towards Minerva. It was almost like the Draught resurrected some of the feelings and emotions he showed to her when he was affected by the Adfectus Curse. Too funny. Wonder what Albus would think of that??? tee hee.
I also see Severus in a different light now that he's trying to make amends for some of his past deeds. He took a lot of care and concern with Kreacher and then helping Neville and giving him some advice. The bit with Zabini was very insightful too.
The ending of this chapter was incredibly sad. I'm sorry Snape shut himself off from Minerva, even though she would find out what happened anyway. What a horrible burden to bear alone but at least he was able to share it by using the Pensieve.I'm really loving the way you've constructed this story and I'm very much eagerly anticipating the next update!!Have a wonderful holiday!GLM

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. That final scene in the chapter -- actually, the scene that Minerva views in the Pensieve -- has been sitting and waiting to be put into the story for a while. I decided to do it as a Pensieve memory for a number of reasons, and I hope that it worked.Poor Severus! But he has allies and he may feel desperate, but there are those who still have hope for him.The Draught of Peace removed his inhibitions quite a bit -- he never would have called Robbie "Robbie," let alone offered to show him his "secret hidey place" if it hadn't! (And he certainly wouldn't have called it a "hidey place"!)Thanks for reviewing! I hope you have a good holiday weekend!

Severus seems to have a closer than usual relationship with Minerva. I was happy to see that Remus is trying to be friends with Severus. Great chapter.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
They do have a close relationship, which grew closer during the events just preceding those of Death's Dominion. Their relationship suffers some strain here in the opening chapters of DD, but it is a strong and essential friendship for Severus.Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
I decided to take your advice and read this story first. I haven't read on this site for too long and I'm not real familiar with the authors yet and what comes before what. So far, so good. I'm always interested in the new twists different people put on the classic story. Great chapter.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy the story!I think you will find lots of good fics to read here on TPP. I appreciate your taking the time to review. :-) Have fun!
This was an amusing chapter.GO NEVILLE!!! He's becoming a real leader for the DA. It is interesting to see what that conversation with Severus has done to him. He is more confident and his self-esteam is getting better. It is sort of scary to see him scowling like Severus, but he is right 'there’s far worse things in the world than taking after Professor Snape.' It seems that plans are in the making for the eventual attack to the school. It also seems that at least Minerva understands what the new prophecy is about. I think I understand it now too after reading this chapter.I did enjoy the ending section of this chapter alot. Severus must have to listen to the same ol', same ol' usual stuff all the time for him to comment like that. I bet the 'little toe-rag' thinks about all that stuff 24/7, even while sleeping, if he sleeps at all.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yeah, 24/7! That's for sure! And if he weren't so frightening, he'd be comic! "Ooo, power! Ooo, immortality! Ooo, death & destruction! Ooo, kiss my little toe! Hmm, do I still have a little toe?" haha!Glad you liked Nevile coming into his own as leader fo the DA!Thanks for the review -- glad you enjoyed the chapter!
Another emotional chapter but great.Poor Severus!!! It must have been the last straw when he heard that Johnson had died that morning. It was nice of Poppy to be there for Severus when he needed it the most. Poppy let him just let go and didn't say anything about it, but gave him the comfort he needed by just being there. It shows that she really does know and care about Severus, and that is what makes her special. I'm glad that Severus told Remus to be a man and that he told Minerva about the pregnancy. It was really stupid of Tonks to be at the raid in the condition she is in. STUPID GRYFFINDORS!!! There seems to be a new prophesy and it deals with more than one person. It also seems that it is about the final confrontation with 'the little toe-rag' and says who will live and who will die. I guess we will see.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, Poppy is special. Severus is beginning to apreciate individuals in his life more than he had, and getting to know them better, as well. Even when it comes to Minerva, that's true. He believed at one point that she was not the right person to direct his spying activities, etc., but by this point in the story, he sees that there are aspects of her that he misjudged or undervalued. I think that Tonks is actually a Ravenclaw -- an overconfident Ravenclaw who thinks she knows best, but your remark is completely apt otherwise! And do you think that maybe Remus just might have come to the house because Severus was there, and he knew that he could tell him? And that maybe that might get him off the hook with Tonks? Yep, a new prophesy, and it's very ambiguous who the various players are in it, but there's definitely more than one!Later!
This chapter had a veriety of emotions. What Severus said to Minerva and Robbie in her office, if and I mean if, in the right/wrong context would be funny in a sick, twisted so of way, something that Bella would laugh at. In this instance I think you were going for OMG!!! and !!! I'm with one of your other reviewers in that I didn't know if I should laugh or cry at what Severus said and did before and after taking the Draught of Peace. I felt sorry that Severus lost his mind in a fit of hysteria in this chapter. I'm glad that Severus was in Minerva's office when that happened because it could have been disastrous if it happened in front of the whole school. While having the Draught of Peace in his system he seemed drunk or high on something, and I have to admit I did laugh at that.At least Kreacher got back to the castle with only a couple of crucios, it could have been worse. And I'm surprised that Severus didn't get punished or anything of the sort, I guess the Dark Lord was PLEASED.IT'S A MIRICLE!!! Harry understands finally and now will be able to trust Severus. I was surprised that Harry saw what happened to Severus at that meeting though. It was nice to finally have a conversation between the two of them and not have it become a raging fight. I give credit to Harry, HE FINALLY GREW UP!Now to Moody. I enjoyed that Severus ignored Moody for most of their encounter together. I'm not really surprised that Severus couldn't really forgive him. BUT in a way he did by giving Moody another chance. IF AND I MEAN IF Moody messes up again, THERE WILL BE NO MORE CHANCES FOR HIM and Severus has very right the curse, hex, or what ever to Moody if he does. The end of this chapter was the saddest of all. No wonder Severus was so depressed when Minerva was with him. I can't imagine having to do what Severus did and to an ex-Slytherin student you taught no less. I'm surprised he didn't try something really stupid to himself once he got back to the castle.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, the Draught of Peace scene provides a bit of a comic relief both for Severus and for the readers. He's going through a stressful time. And yes, that is a kind of funny but OMG! kind of moment when he's talking about Bella & the DL. Yes, it took Harry some time, but he's grown up some, and he's experienced a lot and time to process some of it, and so he has come to a new appreciation for Snape. No, Snape couldn't forgive Moody, but he did the best he could, which was not seek revenge and be willing to give him a second chance -- and if Moody's smart, he won't press it! What Severus has to do in order to spy on the DL and get his revenge for Lily (and pay his debts) sometimes seems worse than the alternative, but he keeps going. He might have tried something stupid if it weren't for Minerva checking on him and the fact that, despite him seeing it as a weakness and illusory, he has made some friendships, particuarly with Hermione. He got to the brink but didn't fall over it.Thanks again!
An interesting chapter. I enjoyed the conversation that Severus and Hermione had, their apperent brain holiday. I also enjoyed the interaction between Gareth and Severus in this chapter. It seems that now they will try to get along with each other and posibly forget about their pasts for good. Severus had a stressful couple of days, with dealing with the Dark Lord ,the Slytherins and Zabini. I'm surprised that Severus didn't have a relaps. At least severus is getting help with making the potions for 'the poison', he will not have to do that fully.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, Severus is in a shaky state right now, but he's pulling himself together for the final sprint to the end. He and Gareth do come to more of an understanding here.TTFN!
Another great chapter. Poor Minerva, I can see 'the plan' is taking its toll on her. It is one thing to plan what will happen with Albus but another totally to see all the effects of 'the plan' in action. I'm with Severus, no matter what happens with Albus, Harry will still have a hard time trying to trust Severus; it's even evident in this chapter and I don't think it will change anytime soon either. I did wonder why Arthur was the one to be the leader of the Order after Albus died. I got my answer and it makes perfect sense. The last section in this chapter was very sad. Each of the gifts that Albus gave each of them was thoughtful and shows what each person means to him personally. I think the gift Albus gave Severus was very appropriate. It shows that Albus sees Severus as a son and apart of his family; it also shows how much Albus loves Severus. And Severus' acceptance of the gift shows how much Albus means to him and how much he loves Albus in return. Their relationship is very much like a father/son one.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, more preparations were made for the continuing of the Order after Albus's death here than, um, "elsewhere." And Albus and Minerva thought it through very carefully. Shacklebolt would be a great leader, as they both recognise, but combined with what they see as the necessity for a strong Order presence in the Ministry to help keep Voldy from infiltrating, and the fact that they need the Order of Phoenix to be very cooperative with Minerva, Arthur made the better choice here. Yes, Albus put thought into what he gave each person, but the only "right" present for Severus was the one he gave him. As you say, it shows the father/son relationship they have, despite their tensions (which a lot of real fathers and sons have, anyway). I'm glad that you liked it.Thanks for reviewing!
An interesting chapter. I was surprised just like Minerva was that Severus would sleep in the same room that occupied Gareth. I enjoyed the interaction between Severus and Gareth in the bathroom. My favorite line from it was: “What the fuck do you think you’re doing!” Anyway, the conversation between Severus, Hermione, and Gareth was very good. You could see that Severus was annoyed that Gareth budded in while Severus was talking to Hermione, it just shows how much he appreciates her company. Hermione's conversation with Gareth was interesting. In my opinion, I think Gareth should take his own advice and understand Severus better before telling others to do the same because I don't think he really does know Severus at all, even if he thinks he does. At least I give credit to Hermione for trying to be Severus' friend even with all the faults he has, it's more than I can say about some people. I will give credit to Gareth for trying to comfort Severus at the end even though I don't think he is the right person for Severus to grieve in public with.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
I think that Gareth is just worried about Hermione here. He doesn't know her at all, except the little he's heard from others, so he's afraid she might be hurt. It's also always a good idea to accept people and care about them for all they are, and not based on some unrealistic idea of them, and Gareth's afraid that Hermione might be basing her relationship with SS on some unrealistic picture. Of course, both Gareth and Hermione bring their own biases with them.Gareth is giving Severus a chance, trying to start fresh with him and not hold past acts against him, which is a hard thing to do. Fortunately, by necessity, they can do most of their getting to know one another in private, and not out in public. Glad you liked the shower scene! Severus was more than a little taken aback there! haha! Thanks for reviewing!
This was a good chapter. We get to witness some of 'the plan' in action and the people involved in it. It was interesting to see all the emotions 'the plan' brings to everyone involved or not involved, from Minerva sobbing because she is having trouble with doing that spell she must learn and then overjoyed because she finally gets it to Severus upset to find out that Albus will let the curse take him so that Severus survives. And others like Poppy that don't know what is going on and feel like they can do something but cannot.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
I'm able to hop online briefly, and I was very happy to see your reviews! Thank you!Yes, this was a chapter filled with many different kinds of emotions, and there are people who are being affected who don't know or understand what's going on, so it's hard on them. Thanks for your review -- glad you enjoyed the chapter!
This was a good chapter. I enjoyed the confrontation that Minerva had with Alastor. I believe the memories that Minerva made him see made him finally think about how his actions effect other people and the war(cause). If I was in the same situation as Severus, I would probably act the same way after Melina's examination of him. Also I would be very moody too if I didn't get much sleep because of the pain the injuries caused. It was nice of Gareth to put the potion on Severus' back, it just shows how different he is from Alastor. And it seems that both Gareth and Severus can be in the same room and have a civil conversation without acting like little children.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Or only a little childish! But yeah, they can interact civilly.Glad you enjoyed the lesson that Minerva taught Alastor. Thanks for reviewing!
Another great chapter. This was actually the first chapter I read completely the first time. I just want to say, POOR SEVERUS!!! He is lucky to have had that portkey with him that night or he would have died for sure. It is nice to see Minerva, Robbie, Poppy, and Melina fuss over him and him taking it. He must have been feeling really terrible to allow it though. Alastor, Alastor, Alastor; I don't know what to say about him. He makes me so furious sometimes, especially when dealing with Severus. I understand why he hates Severus so, but what he did was so evil ; he is acting like a true Death Eater , not someone who is fighting against them. Even if you hate someone you don't curse them with their backs turned to you. Minerva needs to knock some sense into him.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yep, no back-turned curses -- not unless the other person is attacking someone, really attacking someone, not just behaving "suspiciously" or whatever it was that Alastor thought Severus was up to. You're right about his behavior, that's for sure. But Minerva will have some choice words for him.And Severus was feeling too terrible to protest anything. Just wait until he feels better. Haha!BTW, I'll likely be offline most of the next few days, so if you review & don't hear back, it's not because I don't appreciate it! I really enjoy reading your reviews, and I'm very glad you are liking the story.
Response from ArcticSeasons (Reviewer)
That is fine. I'll just keep reading and reviewing and maybe when your are back I will have the whole story done by then.
Oh, I forgot I hadn't reviewed here. It hink everybody else has already said what I would. Except for one thing....on the second read I think I figured out which wizard Gareth means when he says he knows someone who can help HG get Muggle credentials for school if they all survive. Well, actually it's one of two possibilities, given the description, “He’s underground, I suppose you could say.” But I would be willing to bet which of the two it is. Underground, eh? I suppose you could say, indeed.....Oh, and the desserts made me hungry...I'll take a fruit tart w/ coconut cake for seconds....
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Indeed . . . And with one of the two wizards, I doubt that time -- or time away -- has improved his relationship with the British Ministry.I'll send you a cybertart! Thanks for reviewing!
I'm finally getting the opportunity to catch up with this story. I've very intrigued! I have definite suspicions about "Robbie" and I can't wait to see how you unfold this story. I'm very sorry that I don't have the time for a more detailed review, but I'm so glad that I have something to look forward to reading in my few moments of down time. Thank you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
I'm glad you were able to find the time, too! Thanks for reviewing!
That was a bittersweet chapter, but very good. I like the idea of the brain holiday. Hermione knows how to make Severus smile and laugh, even if it is only alittle. Too bad he will not open up more to her, I think if he did he would feel much better about things and give him some peace of mind. She is right, in the library she is not a student anymore, she is a member of the Order just as much as he is. I think if he thought of her like that then he might be able to open up to her more.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Perhaps he would, but he hasn't much practice at that. He is already more comfortable with her than he would want to be, or would want to admit. Hermione understands that as well as she is able, so I'm sure she'll be patient. ;-)Thank you for reviewing!
This was an interesting chapter. I'm surprised that Severus was able to get what curse is inflicting Quin and got it so easily, but then again the Death Eaters are soooo stupid. I'm glad that Minerva is letting up on Severus finally, but am suprised that Robert was the one to tell her to instead of her doing it on her own. Hermione and Severus are getting closer as friends and I'm glad he is not going to push Hermione away just to save her from himself. I know all to well that your friends make you feel better when things are not going right or you're worried about stuff; I feel alot better after seeing my friends too.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
He worked on the old-timers for a couple weeks, and they liked having their egos stroked. And he is Slytherin, after all! haha!Yes, not to save her from himself, nor to save himself from getting too close to someone, depending on them, and being vulnerable as a result. Or possibly to save himself from hurting her, which he thinks is the only way that he can end up relating to people. He also is, on some level, wary of the temptations of friendship -- the temptation not to do what he must do in the war in order to have his revenge and pay his debts -- much as Albus was wary of the temptation to escape what he believed to be his fate.Minerva has a plan and a timetable, and she tries to stick to it and not change it because of her own feelings. But Robbie saw that her plan in this case was doing more harm than good, at least to her and her ability to function. It also turned out to be a good decision, strategically and otherwise, for her to ease up earlier than planned. In the end, the friendships with Minerva and Hermione will be a source of strength, not weakness, for Severus, whatever he may think of them.Glad you enjoyed it.
This was an interesting chapter to say the least . Gareth seemed very scary in this chapter, especially when confronting Severus in Minerva's office. I don't think I would ever try double crossing him. I don't know if Gareth was acting so he could get a rise out of Severus or if that is his true personality, but if he wasn't on the side of Light I would think he was a Death Eater. I wonder how much Gareth truly knows about Severus even after Robert and Minerva talked to him about Severus. I was surprised that Gareth did apologized to Severus at the end and that they were able to have a civil conversation after the confrontation in Minerva's office earier. Hermione also surprised me too. I would have never thought she would forgive him so easily and so soon after finding out about something that terrible. I guess she understands Severus better than even Severus understands himself. She maybe the one that would shed a tear for him and help him out of his misery and to help him forgive himself.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Gareth knows everything, except about the Adfectus, because, as you probably remember, he's one of the Arithmancers working on Minerva's project. I'm sure that it's not only Death Eaters who have a temper or who hold grudges -- and he went through a lot and never had a chance to confront the person he held responsible for it. Also, as Severus realizes in this chapter, he never would have hurt him, but was looking for a reaction from him -- and maybe an excuse to hit back, but Severus didn't give him that excuse.Hermione knows that Death Eaters did cruel and awful things, but her present awareness of Severus overrides that, particularly since he is confessing to it himself and is obviously bothered by the person he was. She's very loyal, and that is a lot of it, too.We see a few different sides to Gareth in this chapter. He understands anger and a desire for revenge, and the difficultty in forgiving hurts caused by others, but he has made choices and led his life in a different way from others who might be just as angry and inconsolable. Remember what Severus said about his reasons for becoming a DE? Not everyone who feels that way makes that kind of choice. But Gareth had a loving and supportive family, and he'd had close friends as a child. Severus's environment and experiences were quite different from that, so his choice seemed to make sense to him in a way that wouldn't ever occur to Gareth.Glad you liked the chapter.
Sorry, I didn't have the time to read this weekend. Another great chapter. It is amusing to see all the tactics that Albus has used over the years used against him by Minerva, no less. I can just see a pout on Albus' face when Minerva and the others don't tell him what 'the plan' is when he asks all the time. Also Albus acts like a child at Christmas, trying to find out what their presents are (in this case 'the plan') and not finding anything out. We see the stubbornness in Albus again throughout this whole chapter. He shouldn't have underestimated Minerva at the end, she did warn she would make him comply no matter what.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, Albus is stubborn and so convinced that he is right, he just can't see anything else -- and he shouldn't have underestimated Minerva, as you say! haha! Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent. I'm so caught up in the story it doesn't feel like reading words. It feels like pictures in my head. Sad, painful, scary....oh I want Severus to have something good after it's all over.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Thank you. I'm very glad. I know it's not a story that will appeal to everyone, but I'm always very pleased to hear when someone's so caught up in the story as you are. Minerva, Hermione, Robbie, and others share your desire for Severus to have something good when it's over ....Thanks for your reviews. I really appreciate them.
Oh a very tearful and sad chapter. Excellent.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
My heart aches for Severus. Poor thing. I'm glad he has Hermione in this.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, poor Severus, and things do not get better for him very soon, but he has, as you say, Hermione. That and other friendships, which he may not even be aware of, will help him through. Thanks for the review!
