It's possible in wartime that madness eventually comes for us all. Yet some madness might be carefully purchased; some sanity knowingly sacrificed. This story is such a tale.

I'm a 53 year old woman who wrote fanfic for years and adored doing it. While I lost the heart for fanfic after book 7 came out, I am still writing, and can be found at http://julianneqjohnson.com
You can find my published work on Amazon under the name Julianne Q Johnson.
Reviews for The Price of Madness
Super job!!! I love your Severus and all the rest. Thank you so much for doing such delightful things with them and thank you for continuing on with your great story which is immensely clever and so enjoyable Love, barb
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, Barb! We'll get this fic finished one of these days! :)
Lovely! Well done so far, both in plot and in characterization. So- are we going to find that Hestia is a traitor, or is she merely holding a grudge against Snape? Don't answer that. ;) I was also expecting that Snape would try and remove the soul shard from Harry the same way he extracted Albus'...Looking forward to the next chapters!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Well, if Snape did it the same way, then he'd end up with it, and we can't have that! Thanks! :)
Yea! Update! Keep going, it was much to long since your last chapter. Loved it, Hestia was hilarious, so she has a thing for half-giants ehh? I was hoping Severus would still call Hermione "Trollop" Keep it Up!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'll do my best to keep writing, and keep the writer's block at bay! Thanks! :)
What a fantastic treat!!! Two chapters before the release of DH. I absolutely adore this story and appreciate how the serious bits and the funny bits are woven together. Hermione and Severus...just beautiful together. If our favorite Potion's Master doesn't make it through DH then at least we have him in fanfiction. :) I look forward to your next update!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you Jade! And you are right, no matter what JKR does, we can always enjoy fanfic. I've read some terrific stories in fandom. :)
*SQUEE* I just about started bouncing around just getting the e-mail notification that you'd added two more chapters!! I absolutely adore this story. I think you handle the characters extremely well, and that you do a great job writing. Keep up the wonderful work!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! I promise that I'll eventually get this fic finished! :)
Thanks for coming back and updating -- and as always, moving the plot along with great pacing and always intriguing new developments!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you for being patient and still reading! :)
ps - Draco, Draco, Draco.....
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Are you missing him already? :D
SQUEEEE!! TWO new chapters!! And he calls her "trollop"! Thank you for letting Harry finally pay attention to Severus staying with him.... grrr... BTW, there's a typo in this chapter: a missing Avada Kedavra for Hestia Jones. What is her problem????? Thanks again for the two great chapters. Can we change your name to Jo Rowling and have you take over the HP franchise?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* I did rather make Hestia a big brat, didn't I? But then, Hermione gets to practically shout "I'm in love with Severus" in the middle of an Order meeting, so I think it was worth it. ;) As for JKR, that's what fanfic is all about. Taking the bits of a universe you like, and ignoring the rest. Love ya, June! And thanks for those alert reader eyes! :)
Finally Harry learns what the last Horcrux is. I don't particularly care for Hestia Jones, however, but I'm glad Hermione put her in her place. It would seem they have a very good plan to destroy Voldemort; and I think it just might work. I'm looking forward to reading more.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I suppose that Hestia was just an excuse to let Hermione defend Snape in public. That made me giggle. Thanks! :)
Lovely happy hopeful development.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks! :)
Two updates?! You're spoiling us. Any more up your sleeve?
Great stuff. I particularly enjoyed Severus's snarkiness and Hermione's scathing comeback.
I still have a bad feeling about Hestia...
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
No more up my sleeve yet, but I'm working on it! Thanks! :)
Wow! An update! Good to see more of this.
Why do I have a bad feeling about Hestia Jones?
Now Harry has a real reason to hate his scar...
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Hestia is a big brat in this chapter, isn't she? Thanks! :)
Oh, my dear, but this was well worth the wait. These last two chapters were so moving, I had tears in my eyes at times. So very, very well done.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thank you so much! :)
Oh, I've missed this! Two wonderful chapters and a last line that is utterly perfect.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks for reading, thanks for your patience, and thanks so much for the kind review! :)
*happy sigh*
I'll review more thoroughly when I'm awake enough to do so, but I just wanted to drop a note saying how much I adore this story. It's everything I want DH to be and know it won't be. I love it. Thank you for writing such a lovely story. It really is divine.
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
And thank you for reading it, even when there are ages in between updates. You rock! :)
Hmmm, Hestia Jones is definitely out of your favor. I wonder if that has significance or if she drew the short straw on who plays the whinger?
I am SO GLAD you're back in the saddle! This is really one of my favorite fanfics, and I was afraid I'd never see the end of it. Welcome back.
And it was really well-written, too, by the way. I liked Harry backing toward the door, the silliness about the pyramid snow-globe and the way Albus and Minerva talked to one another. Looking forward to the next bit. That low and gravelly voice and the lovely pet-name can only mean lemons! WOO HOO!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Yes, I think that Severus deserves a lemony present after all that's happened to him lately. ;) As far as Hestia goes, she drew the short straw. *giggle* I haven't decided if I'll take it any farther than that. Thanks! :)
Thank you PlaidPooka, for the update! I hope that you are still with us in AU land after Saturday...
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Not to worry! I'll finish this fic no matter what JKR does. Thanks for reading, and thanks for your patience! :)
“You look divine, trollop,” Severus said, his voice low and gravelly. “Come here.”
Squee!
Yay, you found a way for Harry to be a Horcrux and not have to die! And things appear to still be going well with Hermione and Severus. From your keyboard to JKR's ears, I hope. *g*
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
Thanks, Firefly! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm so glad your muse decided to speak up! Yay, update!
Ack! And they've already determined that they don't know a way to get it out of a living creature without killing it! Ack! ::runs on to next chapter::
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
*giggle* Yes, I'm naughty that way! Thanks! :)
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
I'm just glad you posted both chaps! Don't know if I could've handled the suspense. Not this week. Already enough of that going around. *g*
Oh dear . . . . I believe I need more of this or I'll go as mad as a certain Potions Master with an extra soul! The whole time I was reading this, I could feel the pieces falling into place. The explaination for Albus' death and how Snape stored the soul inside himself was pure genius!! I loved how in-depth you went with it, the Pensive, the Goblin magic, everything. *claps wildly* Well done!! Will more be gracing our humble screens soon?
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I'm so glad that you enjoyed it, and happy to tell you that I started writing again at last. Thanks! :)
“I was the bloody potions maker. I’m deranged; I’m not stupid!”Omg . . . I'm leaving a review in the middle of a chapter!! Is it just me, or does it sound like he knows EXACTALY what's wrong with him. Acting anyone? I don't know why, but this just hit my funnybone rather hard and I fell off my chair giggling. My cat now thinks I'm nuttier than our raving, whore-shouting potions master!
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I enjoyed that line myself, so I'm thrilled that it tickled you as well. Thanks! :)
"Unhand me, werewhore!"“The Dark Whore hid it most carefully,”“Boy,” Severus drawled, “I’ll thank you not to annoy the pretty little whore while she has her wand pointed at my nipples.”Oh my great Goddess, I laughed untill I cried!! Several times. Actually, It took me almost half an hour to finish this chapter because I was laughing so freaking hard!!I adore the whore-shouting madman!! *collapses into giggles*As always, your work is beyond wonderful!! I'm off to read the rest!! *swoops away*
Response from PlaidPooka (Author of The Price of Madness)
I think that I had way too much fun with the whole whore thing. I'm glad that you got a kick out of it too! Thanks! :)
This is an amazing story! Please keep it up!
