Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”― Maria Montessori
“Our imagination flies -- we are its shadow on the earth.”― Vladimir Nabokov
“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.”― Albert Einstein

Oooh, that Sirius makes me angry. Vile thing. It's so infantile of him to keep calling Severus Snivellus. It's awful what he went through being in Azkaban, but he wasn't a nice person before that.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yeah, well, he was a total jerk/toe rag in his youth and I didn't see that he'd grown up any since then - so the old dog was/is still a teenager-at-hart. No, laying low as a dog in Azkaban, alone in a cell, he never grew up, never matured, and the anomisity between Black and Snape is a alive as ever. At least in this story. Thankyou for readign and for the review.
Poor Severus. I hate that this had to be, but with the dark mark on his arm he's stuck. I wish he'd never taken the dark mark. It's just so awful. Horrible Voldemort!! But I still love the story and want to keep going!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I know, but he did and it's what he has to live with. However, think of the good he's doing and it helps. Horrible Volde - oops! sorry, Severus, I know - Dark Lord. I'mdelighted that you are enjoying the stroy and there is more. Thank you for reading and for the review. I'm being told to get back to work. (would you like a Severus muse for a weekend? He doesn't eat much, but then he doesn't sleep either!)
With every update I become more in awe of this fic. I am blown away by how you are interweaving everything and constantly look forward to what is going to happen next! Please keep those updates coming. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh, that's so sweet of you to say, thank you. I know how confusing all the jumping back in time, the 'erased timelines' and the paralels and all, (I actually broke it all down for another reader in her review) so this is a contravoulted story. I'm glad that you're enjoying it. SW has my next chapter, so hopefully you will, too, soon.Thak you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
I love it. Poor Severus is such a mess. He's jealous but says he can't have Miss Granger. Silly boy. I can't wait to see what happens!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you, I'm glad that you do like it. Yes, well, she's still a young girl and at this point he can't have her, regardless how much his buried feelings say otherwise. Time will tell though. Thnak you for reading and for the review.
very good. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Oh, more fun ahead. Thank you for the review.
Very good, very interesting chapter. I had to chuckle at the end when you wrote about Minerva and Severus sharing a drink together in his quarters. I like to read about a positive relationship between these two. Minerva has a soft spot in her heart for Severus - which is why she's so upset with him in DH. Nice, upbeat chapter end. You're weaving the Hermione/Severus relationship quite well. Their conversations are sounding more like a balanced friendship than student-teacher when they're alone. I noticed that Severus called Hermione by her first name again in his classroom, in private. Not that he would become careless, but I hope their familiarity with each other doesn't become an unintended stumbling block at some point. Like when he allowed Hermione to use his red ink well to make notes in her planner. Not that the boys would ever purposely look at her planner and see red ink.During the duel/fight, why is Severus so worked up? Is he concerned with Darias' questions regarding how Hermione is doing? Also, I don't remember which chapter Darias shows up in first. Of course, I can re-read your story and find out myself, but if you could direct me, I promise to still re-read your story Thanks again for the update. I always look forward to a new chapter to this story. I like where you're taking it and I'm impatient for the rest of the 5th year and wonder where you'll take it for the 6th year. I'm not even going to think about what could/would happen after that!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yes, well, I admit that I’m setting a groundwork for what I have in mind, not too far off from canon, really, but there are differences planned in DH. Obviously. lol However, you’ll see a bit more interaction between Severus and Minerva later, and hopefully I’ll show their relationship well. Yes, in private he lets his guard down around her. He does have feelings, suppressed feelings, for her, both brotherly and deeper, but not ones he can act on normally. So he buries them – but buried feelings and desires, wants can surface occasionally. It’s that familiarity that will play more as the story goes on. And whether or not using her first name was a slip or not is hard to say. But around others, he’s in such control of his every move, expression and word. I don’t think the boys would give the red ink a second thought. Besides, Hermione’s planner has so many colors already, her revision schedule, evey student in the DA’s availability/free periods, every student club and extracurricular activity/group and Quidditch practices and games… each with its own color – red would just look like a different shard for Gryffindor! Oh, the duel. No, he was not happy about the article in The Quibbler – in his opinion that would be reckless and considering both Umbridge’s and his Slytherin’s reactions, he was right. It also put the parents of the students he’s managed to sway away from following their parents into just caving into the Dark Lord in the news, so to speak. And with Umbridge declaring the article as grounds for expulsion, not only have the students read it many of the student’s parents will/could have as well. Like it or not – that could put Severus’ efforts at risk of failure. Also Hermione chose the Hog’s Head instead of a quieter and more private location for such a meeting. That rankled him; she went to the seedy bar where undesirables go, possibly Death Eaters and thugs. He’d be angry about her putting herself at risk. But also he knew that she invited (well he assumed) the Weasley twins into the room that he’d set up for her to train Harry for the DA lessons. Severus had meant Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley when he’d told her about the room and that only Messrs Potter and Weasley could enter. So he’d set up some complicated spells that she ‘got around.’ Severus likes rules, boundaries and it’s for her protection. To him, Hermione is too open and trusting. And her remark about the Dark Lord not attacking ‘tomorrow,’ shows her ignorance of how important this all is. In that moment, he thinks she’s not taking this, his training, his extra care about her being ready to defend herself, seriously. Of course she is, but it hit a nerve. He’s really trying to prepare her to defend herself against seasoned, hardened fighters, Death Eaters who have no quam of killing or maiming kids and he cares about her. He knows these people she could face and deep down it scares him – and she’s not ready yet to face them wand to wand. Did I over explain this? You are most welcome for the update. I’m delighted that you enjoy my story and am currently writing on the events that take place in 6th year. I think you’ll really like all the angst in those chapters, I’m having fun tormenting Severus, I mean writing them. lol Thank you for the review, love. I’m going to go type now. Hugs
Response from Sharn (Reviewer)
Hey, thank you for the lengthy response and explanation. You can 'over explain' all you want as far as I'm concerned, Dearest. Best wishes with the typing and I'll try to owl you some dark chocolate to encourage your muse. That's assuming you like dark chocolate. If not, my owl can exchange it for the confection of your choice. If he doesn't eat it himself first, that is - which he's been known to do. Well, it is the thought that counts, right?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, it's the thought - and I'm grinning ear to ear as I read this. Any chocolate will do! :)
You picture the pressure she was putting on herself in the year she used the time-turner perfectly.Back with Severus she is able to recover - she probably would have run into a burn-out syndrome without that "time off".I really like the way you portray the ease between the two of them.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you. For a girl touted as the 'brightest of her age,' it's amazing that Percy and Dumbledore both got 'maxium OWLs and NEWTs without a Time-Turner, but Hermione only ends up with 10? lol Maybe she just needs to organize better and stop following Harry around everywhere. Yes, this will be like taking hols from school for her. lolYep, after all this time, they have gotten to know each other well. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
She is not only something but someone too. And I think someone is falling irremediably in love.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh, yes, she is that! Quite possibly. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
I love the innocence between the two of them. Nothing dramatic and life changing has yet happened to form the man he will become, and he can just enjoy the company of a girl he likes.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I know Severus had a bad childhood and bullies always picking on him, but I'd like to think he wasn't totally scarred at 16. However, I do try to put bits of Prof. Snape in him anyway. However, with her and in his 'private room of the castle' he can let down the mask and walls and be himself. Who, knows how this will effect the man he will become.Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Aw, nice to see the byplay between Hermione & Severus. Can't wait to see what comes next!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. More byplay coming soon! Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Not yet a week and she insists on new sheets? And she can wash them but "it's not the same"? Unless its for some other purpose she's being sly about that seems really extreme and unnecessary to me, for Hermione. She's roughing it a bit, barely, and sheets are hardly something I think she'd be so concerned with. Especially after less than a week! From what I understand, 2 weeks is the norm for most people with a washer and dryer at their disposal. Maybe your Hermione is more spoiled than I've imagined her? Thanks for your story, its a fun concept so far.
Response from frozenveggies (Reviewer)
Oh - maybe the sheets were used when she got them?Alright, I understand a little bit better.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Severus didn't only take his bedding, he took the bedding from Townsend’s and Rosier’s beds as well, and Mulciber’s mattress since it was newer, and took Avery’s robes since they were nicer. So it was one of the boy's sheets she'd been sleeping in. So, yes, they were used. Thank you for the review (you really gave me a chuckle answering your own question) and the pretty stars.
This chapter is so much fun! Except for the near miss with the Gryffindor prefect, Hermione and Severus have enjoyed each other's company. I can see Severus is becoming more fond of her each time she comes back. His fear of harming her by teaching her charms and spells above her level shows how seriously he takes his responsibility to keep her safe.I liked his disbelief that she could have successively brewed Polyjuice Potion. He really is taken with her, and she with him. She is concerned that he see her in a positive light. She enjoys the discussions they have and helping him brew.Very fun chapter! Now, how long will she be staying this time?Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you. Yes, they are enjoying each other's company very much.I keep trying to add bits of Professor Snape in young Severus, but yes, he is taking his responsibility very seriously, and he is becoming much more fond of her. The bit of the Polyjuice Potion was fun to write.Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
One of my favorite parts of POA in the books and the movies. This chapter felt like you were sort of rushing to get through the bits that we already knew from the book. Which isn't really a huge problem but it seemed a little forced somehow. Still, I enjoyed it tremendously and will go on to further chapters.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm sorry that it seemed forced and rushed, but I'm not going to just rewrite the books, only show the differences or the behind the scenes. So, that said, I will on occasion give a summary to show the progression and then focus on the realtionships and occurances that I am creating or changing. I'm glad that you enjoyed it, regardless of my skipping forward like that. Thank you for readign and for the review.
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
Oh yes, I don't mind you going over what has happened in the books. It is necessary. I can't quite place what is different about it in this chapter from other chapters, but most of the time it seems just fine. Maybe because there is so much crammed into the POA book that is important. I think I felt that way with the movie, too. It is difficult to cover and no doubt I would fail miserably at it. Which is not what you have done. I think you have done well with it, I think it just didn't flow as naturally as it did with the others. Sort of. My brain isn't working very well so I'm having trouble putting it into words. New school year + 10 day visit from my Mother-In-Law has left me a bit insane. LOL.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, well, the POA year was mostly about Hermione’s jumps back to Severus’ sixth year and his reaction when she returned back to her own time, as well as the future events that happened. So what was changed in POA year in this story was subtle, it’s in how he sees her, and the diary. Don’t forget that diary. However, it sets the groundwork for what will happen in the OoTP year, Hermione’s fifth year/Umbridge’s stint as DADA professor/headmistress. Severus has changed, his views have changed and he is now concerned for what happens in that future. Plus events happened as they did in the books – Hermione used the Time-Turner to free Black. And Severus was hexed. The other thing of import was that Dumbledore used Hermione as a ‘guinea pig’ to test his friend’s new modification with the Time-Turner. Dumbledore had no problems giving Hermione an untested, untried device and seeing what she could do with it – literally. A bit cold and uncaring actually, but he does use/manipulate people for his own ends/greater good. So that’s what was important/changed. You’ll see the ripples widen out and spread from here. Hope that helps. Hope you recover from the Mother-In-Law visit. If I may suggest - Merlot. A glass of Merlot and a hot bubble bath. only don't forget to warn everyone to leav eyou alone for an hour and lock the door. Using a Silencing spell(s) and Sound-blocking Charm is highly recommended. Hugs.
This is a great story! I am really enjoying Hermione's interactions with the younger Severus. I also really loved older Snape's musings about her. Very interesting!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. I'm having a lot of fun writing this one, and trying to make young Sev seem like (somewhat) Professor Snape (but nicer) is really a challenge. As the story progresses, Profressor Snape ahs even more 'memories' of Hermione. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
She's old enough except for 3 weeks to be a 4th year, so it isn't that much of a problem. And she's powerful, but this does complicate stuff for him, I guess.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL Yes, she is 14 in this chapter, (this jump takes place over Easter, which would have been in my AN's but I can't have any) and he's 17. But he hasn't asked her age at all, yet, just her year level. But yes, she's capable and smart enough to be able to, just like Severus is, although he isn't admitting it to her.Thank you for the review and the pertty stars.
awww.question how did the gryf prefect know she was a third yr when snape cant? just a good guess?and would she really have that many classes on one day? dont they usually have thier classes less times a week bt in bigger slots?liked snape pulling her right out of class with precise timing and nice that things didnt go perfectly smooth and he was still chased down.currently according for hermione there should be nothing yet of the war brewing correct? no death eaters come to play until fourth year and then at the end begins voldemort and such.and there goes a slip about hagrid becoming teacher. and then later about polyjuice. i guess he has plenty of time to figure out how to fix the turning into a cat problem should there be one.“And here I am teaching—showing you—holy shit! I could have depleted you—drained you or caused you… Why didn’t you tell me?!” oooh nice reasoning. infact i like all that he discusses afterward. nice magical theory.and nice that even though he believes her to be smart, he couldnt wrap his head around her brewing polyjice potion last year.aww so hermione gets to only stay a month and then no more travels recorded. as always, it is an extreme pleasure to read this fic.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well, it’s like this; the prefect is used to dealing with the younger years, Severus most likely is not. The perfect made a guess, although why she didn’t realize she didn’t know or recognize Hermione is a better question. Severus assumed that Hermione was a 4th year because of her abilities to learn whatever he was showing her, and Hermione was doing spells above her year level – even doing some of his. Same for the potions they brewed together – she was assisting him on potions way above her year level.
Severus has the diary which told him where and when Hermione would arrive. All he had to do was linger/loiter in the corridor and wait for her. However in her time the classroom would have been empty, in his it was in use. Plus as he stated, the houses are in turmoil and taking sides in this struggle: the Dark Lord/Voldemort or the rebellion/Dumbledore. Animosity between the houses is escalating. However for Hermione, the war happened, as in history books, but for young Severus it’s only just begun. The Dark Lord/Voldemort began his rise in 1970 and for young Severus it’s 1976-7 school year (as I said it’s during Easter, so it’s 1977 for him)
The teachers seem to have a curriculum that is progressive, with the basics set in first year, like how to hold your wand and annunciation. The idea that doing magic too far above your age level could be draining seemed logical to me. I know I’ve seen it in other fan fics, so it’s not really all that original. And Polyjuice is a seventh-year potion, I believe and as Hermione said in CoS, ‘I’ve never seen a more difficult potion.’
No more recorded by Professor Snape… in the timeline when he went back to deliver the diary…
I’m glad that you are enjoying the story. Thank you for the review and the lovely stars.
Oh, yes, she really IS something! I'm glad Hermione could eventually laugh with Severus. I can understand her embarrassment. I hate failing at things too. But really, it's been a year. She needed to loosen up and laugh at herself. Glad she's back in the past, and wondering what it will bring for the future.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh yes, she really is. Yes, having Severus look at it with her from another persepctive. I think it made a difference that Severus wasn't laughing at her, but was simply amused by her mishap. I could just see Ron teasing her, and not letting her forget. So she could see it another way - that others had done the same, and laugh at it too. Yes, this time it's going to take longer, but what it changes, if anything, you''ll have to wait to see. Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Wow, that was a close one. That prefect meant business!I'm so glad that Severus was there to hide Hermione as quickly as he did. I don't even want to think about the consequences if he hadn't been. His comment about them 'playing house' was so bittersweet. I wish he could have had a better childhood, but I hope that there is still a chance that he will get a little bit of happiness later on. The comraderie between the two of them is so great to read. I love how he gets embarrassed over her femininity. Still, they do very well together. Even when he's teasing her or she is standing her ground with him, you can see how much they are growing to care about each other. Great update!!! :D
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, she was being quite a mother hen, but then she's had reason to be concerned. Severus is always right where he needs to be, thanks to the diary. Severus' comment is just that, wishing for what he didn't have. He's thought all along that she came from a 'better family' which is really sad. Yes, they are getting along great, really have a friendship started. I'm glad that the ties they are making are showing.Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
I've been reading this story for the last day and a half. Totally addicted! I like the premise and the changes that her meddling with time made. I have enjoyed reading how the original story plus your story weave together.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. It was a fun one to write. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Finally there is a Severus&Hermione fanfiction that takes its time. I have read so many SS/HG fanfictions that I had almost lost hope that there are still authors who realize the fact that a relationship between Severus and Hermione needs two things: Time (or as you got it right: years) and an occasion to meet without being influenced by the usual hatred (a problem you solved incredibly clever by using the time-turner - I always thought how unfair it is that Hermione did not attend school with young Severus and never had a chance to get to know his younger self, for there is no character I love more than young Severus.) I love the way he keeps his distance while wanting to get closer instead, this is exactly what I expect him to feel when thinking of Hermione as a close friend or girlfriend. And I loved the moment when he kissed her and then left her alone... Because this is the only way a kissing scene between the two of them could take place: Severus knows that it might be the last time she looks at him without hatred in her eyes and this is the only thing that makes him overcome his fears and kiss her. I can't wait to read the next chapter - waiting is like being under the Cruciatus curse, only worse! Thank you for this awesome fanfiction, I hope there will be an update soon! (if there are any mistakes in this review, you may give me a detention (with Severus, of course) - english is not my first language but I couldn't wait for the translation to be updated, so I decided to read the original)

Ok I don't know what has happened now, I think my browser has automatically refreshed the site so now there are two reviews, I'm sorry, I didn't know my browser would do this.

That's all right, I've done it a time or two myself. Hugs, besides, I get to answer your twice

I have two that take their time with the slow grow, and in both I have a magical element that puts them together in the first place - this time a Time-Turner. I didn't want to rush it and thus it's a long long fic. I too like young Severus. And I did want him to be himself and not ooc, so no, he's mainting his professional ethics. As much as he likes her, it's against the rules in this one. lol More is coming, and I hope you like the rest of the story. Thank you for reading and for the review.
:) I'm glad he's allowing Hermione to help him. He needs a friend at the very least.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, I agree. Thank you for reading and for the review.
More bonding between Severus and Hermione. I love it.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
And more to come. Thank you for the review.
Well, that impressed him! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL Yep.
Now I will not be able to focus on my story! I'm constantly thinking about yours. I LOVE this story. I can't wait to see if anything more develops between them. How does Hermione feel about the adult Snape? If she developes a crush on him as a student is it going to show when he's an adult? This is a really great story. I look forward to more.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh you'll have to wait until she goes backto her time to find out. Thank you for the reiew and the pretty stars.
