Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”― Maria Montessori
“Our imagination flies -- we are its shadow on the earth.”― Vladimir Nabokov
“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.”― Albert Einstein

The snow castle sounded gorgeous! :)

I'm sure it was. He was trying to impress her.Thank you for the review.
Poor Hermione. At least Severus is alright.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
She'll be fine and Severus is going to be fine. Thank you for the review.
Okay, first off, I agree with what everyone has said so far regarding this story and especially this chapter. Wonderful. I never know if you're going to sweep us off through several months of the school year or if we get to revel in more detail of the current happenings of the previous chapter. I'm happy that we're still at Headquarters before the school year starts.I love how Hermione senses someone watching her after Lupin leaves her in the library. Severus' presence at the doorway lets us know he's heard at least part of what has been said in his defence. I can only imagine what he's thinking. The more stoic he appears, the more his emotions must be bursting at the seams. Hermione is still young in years but rapidly maturing emotionally. She's way beyond her almost 16 years. Part of me wants you to rush through the next two years so that she's no longer a student. But that would spoil all the fun, wouldn't it!Thank you for a very nicely written, entertaining chapter. I recently went back and reread this from the beginning. I think the story has great flow and really pulls the reader in. Great job.Looking forward to much more. We're all behind you

Thank you very much. Yes, this story does that - jumps around but I do try to give you details when I can. lol But I'm not going to rehash the book - well, parts somewhat, but not from Harry's POV obviously. Yep, he heard it all, actually and I think I agree whit you. Nope, not rushing through, I have some fun planned on the way. You are very welcme for the chapter - gotta go - I've typing to do. Thank you for the review. Hugs~
That was fabulous. I can't wait to see how the next year plays out for them. I adore all of your stories, and I feel fickle at times because my favorite is usually the one I just finished reading. With this chapter, this is my new favorite!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. I'm busily working on that very thing! Thank you for the review.
Well worth the wait. I love the interaction between Hermione, Severus and Siruis. I look forward to your next update.PS Hope you feel better.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. I do feel better, thank you. and I'm back to typing my little heart out!
This is the first time I have left a review for one of your fics, and first off I’d like to apologise for being such a lazy, rubbish so-and-so. Sorry.I was really sad to hear that you had been disheartened by negative comments from a moderator. I don’t know much about commas and all that grammar malarkey, but I know a good story when one grips me. The thing I love the most is your insight into the emotional dynamics of the characters; how you’re able to discern their feelings and reactions to situations. You make it look so easy (I bet it’s not), but there’s not many who can write that sort of thing. I always get so emotionally involved with your stories. There are some chapters that affect me so much that I can’t read them straight through – I have to go and pace or listen to some music, so I can digest what’s happening and calm myself. Self-Writing Parchment has quite a few chapters like that! I don’t mean that in a negative way, I think it’s a credit to you that you write such authentic, intense and moving work. I’m not going to plead with you to carry on writing, because if you’re bored and it’s become tedious, that’s not a fun place to be. But please don’t feel discouraged because of a stroppy mod, who could be a Ron/Hermione shipper with the ‘painters and decorators in’ for all we know, because your work really is loved. So, on with my thought on this chapter! I love the interaction between Severus and Hermione towards the end there. I understand he’s probably cheesed off by being defended by girls, but I think he’s pleased that Hermione is sticking by him, when it must easier for her to side with the common opinion of him. Besides, it’s the nineties and that’s women’s lib for you, so tough luck Snape! Thanks for posting this chapter! I hope you have fun writing the next. p.s. I will review in the future – Brownies’ honour! p.s.s – or is that p.p.s, I never know... Sorry this was a long rambling review, but some things just have to be said, right?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
No apology needed, but I must tell you, your words have really hit home with me. If this is a once time review – let me tell you this: I was stunned, left breathless, almost teary –eyes with modest awe at your sincerity, and that warm fuzzy feeling you feel when someone strokes your hair – well, I felt that all over! In a way you reminded me why I even bother to post – because readers like you enjoy my story as much as I enjoy writing them. I give 100% of myself, my imagination and do tons of ‘looking up’ research and ‘fact checking’ when I write so that I can be accurate when I use history, animals/insects/herbs even rocks, science, or anything in a story. I triple check dates (maths isn’t my strong suit) all to give you my best efforts in writing.
I’m not bored with writing – far from it. I admit I was hurt. I’ve never minded a standard corrections letter – I admit – I’m not perfect when it comes to the technical aspect of writing, but I love doing it. It was the personal jab… enough. I need to thicken my skin and let it go, right?
I’m delighted that you enjoyed the chapter. I really like how you perceive Severus’ take on things – and it’s not too far from my own, but I gave you room to form your own interpretation. I hope you like what I do with the rest of the story.
If you never review again, know this: you’ve touched me, and I won’t forget this review. Ever.
p.s. – Parchment should (hopefully) update soon. And I have 6 chapters of Plight with my alpha-beta right now, having gotten them all back from my alpha-continuity reader/cheerer.
Response from stellium (Reviewer)
My family have always criticised me for being over sensitive, but who wants to be hard faced? I know it’s difficult to handle some days, but I think it has its benefits. If you were thick skinned you wouldn't be able to write such sensitive work.I’m glad you accepted my review in the way it was meant. Sometimes I come on a bit strong, but I am sincere.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, for continuing to write. I know it was not an easy decision for you. Thanks to your betas also for helping you through the pitfalls of submitting to the que here. The devil is definitely in the details.I know that Severus must keep his distance because he fears for Hermione's safety. But the little moments in the library when they are alone let me know he still cares deeply for her.I love this story.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
You are very very welcome. Its the kind support of my readers like you that made me realize I can't just abandon my stories. Thank you very much. Yes, as much as he doesn't want to seem to care, it shows anyway. Thank you very much for the review.
Another great chapter. Loved that Hermione put Black in his place. I hope Severus and Hermione continue to grow closer, in the coming chapters.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yep, some one had to. lol Thank you very much for the review.
Handouts, yeah, right! Good chapter!:)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much.
"She was ravished, judging by the way she ate" I think you mean "famished." If a person is "ravished," it means "raped," but if a person ravishes food, it means they're eating it. So you're using the word as an adjective when I think you mean to use it as a noun.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you.
Glad he's all right. Hermione's reaction to his return was sweet, and evindently quite shocking to Severus.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, he's doing all right. He'll be fine. yes, she was very worried and was so relieved to see him. He has only had one other person show him concern before (Lily) and not as strongly as Hermione did - quite shocking to him. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Their time in the forest when they were throwing snowballs and then building the snow castle was fun to read. Even though Hermione looked like Mulciber, when they fell and she landed on top of Severus, I thought he was going to kiss her for a minute. LOL! Now that would have been something if he had and someone had happened upon them. But thankfully they got themselves back on their feet and continued to enjoy their time away from the classroom. When Severus' friends came into the room looking for him, I was worried sick that they would find Hermione, and then the jig would be up.I think I was as worried about Severus as Hermione was. I knew he had to have been attacked by one or more of the Marauders. Potter and Black are really a piece of bad work, but maybe Severus' friends will settle the score and make them think twice before they try to hurt him again. Hermione's tears and hugs – and a kiss! – caught him off guard. He was so flustered by her reaction to seeing him after so long an absence that he hardly knew how to respond. But after a moment he got his brain up to speed and just held her and comforted her.And now they are on their way to the showers, and she has vowed there would be "No problem” staying close to him. All I could think was "famous last words." What in the world can happen to them now? I don't know, but I have a feeling that something is about to go terribly wrong.I really liked seeing them being so playful in the snow! I could almost feel the snow on the back of my neck. Well done, Mystery Author. Thank you.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
You are avery welcome, Beth. I’m glad that you enjoyed the romp in the snow. While she might have tried to kiss his nose (and I almost put that in there, but it didn’t fit right) she looks and sounds like Mulciber, so I doubt he would have kiss Mulciber’s mug. lol However, I’m glad you could feel the snow!
That’s why Severus made her bed area invisible – so she’d have a place to hide. And if you were as worried about his as Hermione was then I did my job well – you were supposed to. lol Professor Snape said that Potter was ‘swine’ and taught him that life ‘wasn’t fair, in fact, he frequently saw to it.’ So, based on what little I had in canon, Potter was cruel, arrogant, and cocky, and Black wasn’t any better.
Yes, her affectionate outburst and open demonstration of caring about/for him really did take him by surprise.
I hope to have 14 and 15 ready to post in a few days, *crossed fingers* so I can get them in. They are great IMHO.
Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Thank Heavens that his friends were worried about him! He could have died from exposure. I hate those thugs! Why doesn't Madame Pomfrey tell Dumbledore what little bastards they are? Dumbledore is such a dick! "What you do comes back to you", though. "Be sure your sins will find you out." Potter and Black both meet a bad end, and Sirius spends all those years in Askaban even though he isn't guilty of that particular crime. God sees the heart. Potter and Black are hateful and it bites them in the butt. Severus will have to do bad things as a spy, but his heart isn't in it. He is being obedient and fighting to destroy evil. However, he still suffers more than his due for too long. After Voldemort tries to kill him, I sincerely hope he gets rewarded for all of his sacrifice.Dumbledore used him badly and it harmed him. The only thing I will credit Anus for is drinking the poison to try to find the horcrux. He used himself badly that time. I've always wondered why Harry doesn't see that Dumbledore was already dying when Severus has to curse him. Harry doesn't know that the curse in his hand will kill Dumbledore, but he knows the jerk drank a punch bowl of poison, was getting weaker and was having a difficult time standing up. I think he transfers some of his personal guilt for what happened in the cave into his hatred for Severus until he finds out the truth. HBP was the book that I felt went completely outside the purview of children's reading material. It was too frightening and gruesome. When I was a kid that book would have given me nightmares. I really started disliking JKR by then. I only kept reading because by then I was sucked into the plot and needed to know what happened next. I was creeped out by Anus' withered black hand and the inferi were too scary. The book HBP was even creepier than the movie. The entire cave scene was a horror. I would never choose to read a book like that on my own. I bought the hardback version of DH as soon as it came out, but it took me many years to read it all the way through. Once I got to the part where she killed Hedwig I just started skimming the book to find out what happened to Severus Snape. I knew he was good and that he could be trusted. I just knew it! When I read the chapter where she tries to kill him off, I put the book down for weeks. I was traumatized. Eventually, after a few weeks, I read the last chapter just to know how it turned out and felt very unsatisfied with the ending. I especially knew Hermione would never stay with Ron. She is too smart for Ron. They didn't have the same drive. She would have outgrown him and met someone else. I know this. I made sure I crafted my life to prevent just such a thing because I could see it happening with me by the time I was in my late 20's. So I chose a career that made sure worked with women so that I wouldn't be tempted, and I didn't finish my education as far as I wanted to because I knew that if I did I wouldn't need my husband anymore. Since I didn't want to get divorced, I made choices to hold myself back. I also didn't want to raise children alone. We had a rule, who ever leaves has to take the kids. That pretty much meant neither of us were going anywhere. Hermione doesn't have religious issues that would make her see any need for avoiding divorce. My Ron has been too depressed for sex for 33 of the 34 years so I think my lady parts have grown together, and we don't share feelings or talk, but he does me bunches of favors to get out of it, like fill my car up with gas, all the shopping and cooking. And I must admit that I'm blessed with a man who loves me more than anything or anyone else except God, he tells me I'm pretty even though I'm fat and he gives me all of his measly amount of money, so I'm not bitter or anything (most of the time). What? I don't see Ron being that way. Thank God I really love what I do for a living!

Calm down, breathe… Madam Pomfrey must have told the Headmaster, since she has to report on all injuries, but Dumbledore for some reason in canon never really punished the Gryffindor golden boys – McGonagall must have. For they certainly ended up in detention enough times, enough to have a whole file drawer in Filch’s cabinets.
Yes, Black spends almost 20 years in Azkaban and then he was shoved through the veil by his cousin, and James was killed by Voldemort. Don’t forget dear, Severus did some atrocities as a Death Eater – you can count on that. It was only after realizing that Voldemort would kill Lily and her family (she was after all his first love and friend) did he plead with Dumbledore to hide them (although little did he know that Dumbledore would set them up – in his own childhood home, literally and figuratively! To be killed by Voldemort so Harry could be marked as an equal.
Dumbledore would not use Harry in such a way – Harry was too valuable to Dumbledore to have him drink a unknown potion. There was no redeeming fact in that – he drank it because Harry was his weapon against Voldemort – not a sacrifice for a locket. Even for a Horcrux.
Yes, there were many dark elements in HBP {but this is chap 13 we’re discussing right?
However, having someone’s face morph out of the back of someone’s head is really gruesome. 1st book.
Being petrified by a basilisk is eerie, and having your soul sucked out to revive a dead guy - okay, to rebirth a soul fragment in a book is scary. Not to mention the basilisk petrified a ghost! A cat and 3 students! All in the 2nd book.
Then to have dementors board the train and try to suck out your soul and all the happiness inside you for lunch! Knowing a killer is after you, having a werewolf chase you through the trees, and that’s just the 3rd book.
I think she kept the scary, causing nightmares going through the entire series, considering these were childrens’ books.
But, I do believe that … is about the books
So you’ve read all the chapters to date? All 43 chapters? Kewl. No Hermione would not stay with Ron, he’s too immature, even in canon. But some of do have our idiotic crushes, and of all the boys in her year, Ron and Neville are the only two that even look at her. (besides Severus, but he’s not about to have feelings for a young girl under his tutelage.)
I have another in queue. Hopefully it will be up soon. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Excellent update. I find it interesting/amusing how disconcerted Hermione is about being noticed by so many boys. :)

When Hermione was trying to learn to control her magic as a child, her parents helped her by "working with me on controlling my anger and my abilities." Now Snape tells her to "Control your emotions and your abilities."And BINGO! She understands. She must be getting very close to Blooming. All the guys find themselves attracted to her- including Severus. I could tell during these last few training sessions that there were times when he was having a difficult time controlling his own emotions. Someday..... someday.Great chapter, m'dear. You're getting them whipped into fine shape. I'm looking forward to what awaits Hermione and Severus. He keeps reminding himself that he is her teacher and she is his student, but I think both of them are having a hard time not thinking "that way" about each other. And I love it!!!Beth

Yes, the way to handle her Surges (and eventually something else) is in the way he handled her magical outbursts as a child. The Surge actually was triggered by stress, (like when your period is late or early due to extrememstress) and came upon Hermione when she was in France - did you really think she was 'super-witch' or something, with all that wandless magic ability that jsut suddenly manifested? Yes, she'd been reading about it - but wandless is a physical ability, it has to be learned, with practice.Anyway, Hermione started Surging in June, (Harry arrives at the Burrow on or about the July 8th, according to canon) so Hermione is Surging from June up to her birthday Sept 19th. She begins her Bloom on or abuot the 9th in this story and she's a powerful witch, so it's a long Bloom. But yes, of course Severus will be affected. lolThere is a slow build of something, but no, they will not cross the teacher/student taboo in this story, yet... Thank you for reading, Beth, and your views are as always, fun. Thank you for the review.

I was worried when Severus didn't show up, too! I could just see Hermione deciding to sneak out of the room to go on a Search and Rescue mission for him and get into who knows what... And Sev's reaction to her tears and kisses was priceless! I am so looking forward to seeing what this does to the adult Professor Snape when Hermione goes back to her own time again. Just how much will the timeline end up changing? So many questions, and I can't wait for the next chapter.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, I think she might have if he'd stayed away any longer. I don't think he's ever had anyone so glad to see him and so upset that he'd been missing--quite a shock for him. He wasn't sure how to handle it.I just finished the next two chapters and hope to have them ready soon. My questions right now is how much of the next few years to show you. I don't want to rehash the books any.Thank you for the reveiw and the pretty stars.
I'm glad he's mostly fine. I began to get worried too when he didn't show up for that much time.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, he'll be fine. He's used to be attacked by the Gryffindor bullies. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
I love how you describe Severus' confusion over Hermione as Mulciber. He sees the Slytherin, but hears Hermione. Too funny if she had kissed him in the snow as Mulciber! He still can't comprehend that she likes and worries about him, beyond the fact that heis the only one who knows she is there.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well, in canon they sound like the person turned into, so all he has is the knowledge that it is Hermione, and of course how she acts. It would throw a guy off a bit. I thought about a kiss on the nose, but decided that I might get a few 'eeewws!' So I skipped it.Yes, it's unusual for a girl to show him genuine friendship and caring. Slytherin girls might not be as open and affectionate as Hermione is.Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Well its only natural she'd be upset by him getting hurt and not showing up for 3 days! Sheesh, he's the only person she has to talk to and a friend of sorts.Well done, can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes of curse she was upset, but not only for those reasons, she actually likes Severus.Thank you very much, and I thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
He's so surprised by her concern. I wonder what that does to him in the future.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, he's not used to anyone getting upset over him. Or showing him such concerns so openly. You'll have to wait and see how this affects Professor Snape. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
How fun. I was scared for a while there. The risks they take sometimes worries me. But what's a little worry? And she kissed him. I think he's a big softie! Can't wait for more!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. What's life without a little risk? Yes, she gave him a peck on the cheek. Severus is simply able to be himself, but he lieks the friendship.I hope to have more up really soon.Thank you for the review.
Yay! Another field trip. Thanks so much for that! I love when they get to leave the little room and venture about. The snow fight and creations were nice touches as well.Hermione did exceptionally well during the room invasion and Severus' absence. She is made of strong stuff! I can only imagine the stress they both went through. The amount of care and concern shown to him after his return had to have made an impression, and the kiss was just the right mix of 'I value you as a friend and was worried about you' to avoid the - ewww! icky girl germs - stuff of the average Slytherin male. Great chapter!!! :D
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yep, they got out! I'm glad that you enjyed the bit in the snow. Yes, our girl is stronger than she knows.Yep, he was rather blown away by the open caring and affection she showed him. Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
That was close. I kept waiting for her to kiss him when they were playing in the snow.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
A bit. Do keep in mind she's only 14 and although attracted to him, Hermione is not boy savy.Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Yep, she really took his advise about her essays to hart, and the bit about erasing the parchments was adorable. I also liked that he took her to watch Quiditch with him. I was worried about Mulciber. He coudl sense her, and that was bad.
I sure hope Severus has a Hangover Potion handy.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
I think she still has so much respect for Professor Snape that she really took him seriously. Yes, Mulciber could sense someone was there, but couldn't see her. I'm sure that he did. Thank you for the review.
Cute that he is helping her with her essays, making her see what his older self must think of them. I'm sure this time it'll sink in better. Thier sharing about thier accidental magical outbursts was fun.
Aver coming in the room, I'm glad he didn't see Hermione, but now the quills - why does that seem ominous?and her wanting to go out of the room again. lol so cute. I liked that you tied in the chocolate frog card, and made it one that was rare and valuable.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yep, young Severus like Porfoessor Snape woudl have the same high standard, But young Severus is putting it in a nicer way. Typing thier outbursts was fun as well. Avery was checking up on Severus, as for the quils, dunno what he wanted them for.Yes, she's getting resless. Thank you for the review.
