Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Reviews for Consequences of Meddling with Time
I wonder, did she go back intentionally, or was it another accident?I wondered if the lost and missing books might be returned in Hermione's timeline. Were they missing because she had taken them with her? No, can't be, as this timeline had previously not been altered ...
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Not this time, no. It was another accidental mishap of rune alignment. (However, there will be one made intentioanlly. Shhhh!)Nope, the lost nad misplaced books in Hermione's time are not because Hermione steal the books. As will happen in any library, boooks get misplaced, not returned, or go missing. It's not the fault of the librarian, but I'm sure Madam Pince does everything possible to keep her books. But, Hermione did get to read them which is at least! I know having the timeline change with each turn of events is confusing. I hope I can help keep things from getting as wisted as they did in chapter 4. Sorry about that.
She must be growing on him. Severus has made his lab more comfortable for her stay. He went out of his way to secure food for her, too. Sweet.Funny that you mentioned Cape Wrath. Early chapters of my WIP take place in a fictional fishing village located by Cape Wrath. I wanted isolation for my main character, so I chose what appeared to be the northern most point in Scotland. I didn't know it was such a rich source for potion ingredients, too. LOLI'm loving your story. Great work.

When adultSnape went back in time, it is implied but not stated that he showed teenSeverus the supply room and together made the 'bedroom' part of the classroom. That way, teenSeverus still had his wrokbench and their writing desk to use. BUt still, whichever age he was at, Severus wanted her to have a more comfortable stay. Oh, cool! Yeah, its a fun place to imagine all kikds of things. Course only wizards would know about the snails? Actually, those snails are a rare sourse of natural blue dye - and it was called 'Royal Blue' for that reason - it takes 6000 snails to make enough dye for a tunic.I'm glad you like the story. Thank you for the review.
She's growing on him! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, she is
I'm glad Severus managed to avoid a smack down! He is so nice to Hermione now.... hope it lasts! Thanks for another fun chapter!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
You are welcome! Yes, well, she is sort of his guest, in a way. So yes, he's being considerate.
Severus was very creative in thinking on his feet in finding a way to avoid the fight with the Gryffindors. Well done! I was equally impressed with how he had made his "personal potions lab" into a comfortable place for Hermione. Bless his heart, he is truly doing his best to make certain that she isn't bored and will be able to resist her natural curiosity to explore. She simply cannot be seen by anyone other than himself, and he understands this completely—even if she does not.
I wondered if one of the elves he saw in the kitchens might have been Mystery, but than I decided probably not. She/he would probably be seeing to her/his responsibilities in Slytherin House.
It is wonderful that he trusts her to help him prepare the potions he makes for Madam Pomfrey. Not only is she naturally interested and talented, she is learning things about brewing potions that she would not have learned until later if she hadn't altered her time line. I had to laugh when she was surprised that Severus wrote in his books. My own textbooks looked like I had recorded my lecture notes in them as well as in my notebooks... Go Severus!
I loved the way Severus bent the truth to be able to get all the books he needed for his own studies as well as ones that Hermione would enjoy. I was so intrigued with your mention of the Darwin Mounds and the coral, lophelia, that I had to Google them to see what they really were. Their descriptions were so real that I thought they could not have just been a device that you pulled out or your hat. I love it when an author finds ways to weave real things into their stories.
My compliments on your good work! This was a great chapter.Beth

Wow, brayer, you wrote me a chapter! LOL thanks!
Yes, well he had been warned about the attack, and who, given advanced heads-up wouldn’t want to avoid that? If you recall, adultSnape was shown the storeroom, and he (which I didn’t include in the chapter – but rather implied) helped teenSeverus to set up her ‘bedroom’ in the classroom. “A proper bed to sleep in.”
So, yes, he gives her as many books as will keep her occupied and busy, hoping she’d stay put.
Yes. Sort of, she was in the kitchens. Mystery will pop up later. Sorry about the pun.
adultSnape told teenSeverus that he could ask her help – as something to keep her ‘occupied and busy’ and satisfied to cooperate. You are right about your point here, but it could work the other way around too. adultSnape accidently told teenSeverus a few things… and someone like Hermione who loves books and cherishes them – she would be a teeny bit like Madam Pince – lionizing books. So the writing shocked her. Hermione uses parchment and notebooks for notes.
Well, Severus Snape in either timeline is a Slytherin. So, it would be expected. Yes, I saw them once on the Discovery channel, and looked them up again.
Thank you very much, for the compliment.
And here begins another two weeks session for these two love birds. I can't wait to read what will happen during that time.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yep, she's back and he's gotta hide her again.
Really imaginative story line. I will really enjoy reading this.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much.
They do seem perfect for each other. But where is Dumbledore in this timeline?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, well, they do have a lot in common. When Hermione goes back in time, Severus hides her from everyone including Dumbledore. Since Dumbledore sides with Potter, Black and Lupin, teenSeverus wouldn't/doesn't trust him all that much. You'll see Dumbledore when she retuns to her time.
I never imagine meddling with time could cause such possible damage. Of course, this will gives young Severus more time with Hermione, but the separation will only be worse.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, Meddling with time can have huge reprocussions! And yes, we're up to another six weeks together, one two week stay and a month.
Am I wrong or he has already fallen in love with her. And most importantly, will his older seld remember his feelings for the young girl. Because it's one thing for a 16 year old boy to fantasize about a 13 year old girl, but it's really pervert for a 33 old guy to do the same.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
teenSeverus has developed a friendship with her at this point. What boy, red blooded hormonal boy wouldn't react that way when he realized she wasn't wearing anything under the covers. But, yes, Profesor Snape will remember quite a bit.
I'm glad things are going to be okay for her. I hope her stay will not compromise the future too much (well, in fact I do hope so, but only in a good way).
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, teenSeverus saves her. This is a new timeline, but things will happen much the same way as in the books now, sort of.
I couldn't believe it when I read she died from her injuries. I hope he can manege to change the past for a better future.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Sorry abou that, but only something deartic would have made him go back in time.
I'm confused...didn't she go back almost right away?Well anyway she is being well taken care of....
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
No, you're not confused. Hermione would have melted the Time-Turner sands in that jump, or nearly melted them. Severus still had it years later. By that time the Time-Turner sands could have been fine to use, but he didn't care about the returning part because he knew that timeline wouldn't exist any more. I know, but that's why we shouldn't meddle with time!Yes, young Severus is trying his best. Thank you for the review.
I am curious to see how you will take this story....it is a very good start.....I am sad about Hermione and Harry but how could he survive without her.Anyway I know Severus will make everything right.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. She did help keep him alive in DH, and he couldn't have won without her. IMHO So without her, his rashness made him run into danger without thinking it out first. He will certainly try.Thank you for the review.
I am really enjoying this! such a good story so far. thanks for sharing this with us! Looking forward to seeing Snape back in his own time and seeing what happened because of his visit, and Hermione's.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Oh, there's a smippet of that, but there is more trouble coming. Tahnk you for the review.
I didn't expect Hermione to die, but once she did, how could Potter not fail in the end? Great beginning!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm sorry, but with her death, Potter failed and Severus had to go back and fix things. I'm glad you liked the chapter! Thank you for the review.
Now I can't wait to see just what happens when she returns, and what will Severus think of her then? Lots of good questions.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Hopefully you'll find out soon - my chapter was submitted to SW. Thank you for reading and the pretty stars.
I like how thoughtful young Sev is... Nice job! I'll be watching for more!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well he is taking his 'task' seriously. Thank you very much. More is coming.
Ireally like this story. I can't wait until the next chapter.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you. My beta has chap 3, 4, & 5 already!
It's another interesting chapter! Student!Severus seems to have adapted to his new role with as little fuss as possible, and he and Hermione are working well together. In the meantime, I wonder what Professor Snape is doing in his own time?I'm looking forward to the next update.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yes, Student!Severus took his 'duty' to babysit Hermione seriously - as he would any task. yep, he and Hermione are getting along well enough, what did you expect. He has agreed to take care of her and she does't want to be a burden. His timeline has altered, but he's teaching Potions at Hogwarts...
I genuinely like this take on the time-travel genre. Talking about how one incident can alter everything. What makes me wonder is, how things happening in the "past" should alter the memories of the time traveller. Should he even be aware that his younger self is resisting more to the suggestions than the older self, when he lived trough this himself? Shouldn't the memories adjust themselves instantly? (Do I even make sense?)Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. You make perfect sense. And yes, I carefully wove a few 'changes' in the conversations and Severus thoughts throughout the chapter. His potions conversation with himself, conversation with Dumbledore, for examples. But that which happened to Sev-adult in his past he'd remember because he'd lived it. Sev-adult had thought he'd just go back and convince himself and things would be normal - but he's remembering how it happened from hind-sight-is-always-twenty-twenty-memory not reality.
This is great! And he has bad ears? That would explain the long hair hanging down the side, rather than pulled back.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. You know how some people have big ears or don't like their ears? Well, Severus has his dad's nose and ears - genetic traits.
LOL. babysitting a third year! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well, from a sixteen year-old's perspective...Thank you for the review.
Great chapter, I love the slight "fog" in my head that time travel stories always seem to create...
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yes, it's a bit crazy, the effects of time travel and the consenquences of doing so. Hope it wasn't too confusing?
I have a couple of questions, but I feel that you are leaving it open for the next chapter, so I will not comment on them. I am really liking this story. It's a nice take on time-travel. I want to see them both get lost in time and have only each other to rely on.Hope you update soon!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh, I don't mind questions. Some things will be answered and some things won't. I'm glad that you like this story, I'm hoping for a different twist in this. Oh, yes, she totally has to rely on him. LOLI will be submitting agian soon. Thank you for reading.
