Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

I loved it! He's mad at her. And he feels betrayed. Poor man. Even if he did see it from her point of view, I'm sure he would be upset with her none the less. He just want's Black to be gone!I cannot wait for another chapter. Update soon. :)

Thank you very much. I'm glad that you did. Yes, he's hurt because he see it as betryal. I will try and get this 4th year written and off to my betas soon. Thank you for reading and the review.
Oh my lord! This is a helluva chapter. Sooooo much going on. I don't know what you have in mind for Severus and Hermione, but I'm hoping for the best!!!There were several things that stood out to me and make me wonder if......the potion Severus has created to stop the curse from killing Dumbledore will ever be used?...your use of Hopcroft and Lexicographic algorithms along with the Poisson statistical process is a brilliant use of maths in the Arithmancy calculations Severus used to created the potion. It's so long since I studied probability and statistics that I don't remember how to use them, but I do remember them being in my studies... nearly four decades ago!... and I wonder if Hermione will ever be "able to try Absinthe—his Absinthe—alone with him in his rooms." What a lovely evening that would make. The kiss he gave Hermione and his asking her to try to forgive him nearly had me in tears. Now I'm off to the next chapter.I love this story, Bea.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Brayer, you know me – keep the faith and keep reading. I promised to live up to the rating.
… that potion: all I can say is that we know that the potion Harry makes DD drink and the Killing Curse didn’t do DD any favors.
… I have to thank my Britpicker for the suggestion on the maths: I only took it to Algebra 4 in school.
… tee, well, I can’t very well answer that one about the Absinthe. Sorry, not at this time.
Oh, gosh, sorry I didn’t mean to bring you to tears. Hope you like the next chapter and the rest of this romp. Thank you for the review and for sticking with me on this one.
All I can hope is that Severus will forgive her and they can resume their previous relationship. I don't think I have done it already so Happy New year. I wish you all the good things you want in your life, family, relationships.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you and I wish the same for you and yours - happiness, health, and fun times together. Happy New Year. I know that things look bleak, but we step forward to 4th year and the Goblet of Fire - Triwizard Competion. LOL Thank you so much for reading and for the review.
He he he, typical misunderstandings. Poor guy wallowing in the feeling of betrayal. Will he be willing to listen to what she has to say and if so, how long will it take?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, an ultamite misunderstanding and now he's mooping in feelings of betrayal. You'll have to see what happens - year 4 will start... next. lolThank you for reading and for the review.
What a chapter! You fit alot in a little. Loved it! I can't wait until the next one. Great job!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I know, sorry - but I wanted the rest of the year done in one chapter. Glad you liked it. Thank you for the reivew, kimjee.
This was a particularly fast-paced, action-packed chapter! The events leading up to, and through, the Shrieking Shack were very well done, and I liked how in your version of events Hermione's spell merely bounced off of Ron's rather than her attacking Prof. Snape directly with a stun. Unfortunately, as far as he knows she did attack him directly and he sees it as a betrayal. I know Hermione will somehow find a way to fix it, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I know I wanted to get the rest of the year over in one chapter - so I jammed it all in. I'm deeply flattered that you liked my version of the events in the shack. Yes, unfortunately he sees it as betrayal, akin to Lily's actually. You will have to wait and see - next year-5 starts -- next! Thank you for the review and the supportive compliment. It means a lot. Hugs~
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
OOps I mean Year 4! Fourth year - GoF! Forgive my mistake!
Ha, I loved that detention "choice" at the end of the chapter--"you can scrub out cauldrons or you can help me brew advanced potions for days on end"! That's like saying, "you can have this piece of rock for dessert or you can have a chocolate cake, whichever you prefer"--Severus knows very well what she'll choose, and it's obviously what he wants as well. I'm glad they're making little overtures toward each other in Hermione's timeline, even if it must be under the blind of detentions. Of course, now Severus may have to deal with a Hermione who deliberately gets herself into trouble in his class in order to have detentions! There must be a better way... Glad Hermione cleared the air with Lupin a little, even if he doesn't quite understand exactly where her animosity came from. I hope she's willing to see that people can change as they grow up, and not hold too many of Lupin's past deeds against him. Interesting that in this story, it's apparently just Hermione who got the essays dealing with werewolves and other nocturnal creatures and not the entire class. Is Severus trying to warn her with her extra-credit projects? Between those essays and with what Lupin let slip about Lily and James locking him in the basement, it won't take long for Hermione to connect the dots.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I totally loved the anology between a rock or chocolate cake! Thats so funny and true in this case. He knew exactly what she'd pick and that he'd get his way.Yes, there is some airclearing here, but still some suspecions. You'll see when I get to year 5. No, the class got it, but only Hermione would do so much of her assignment the same night it was given. Lupin voided the assignment the next day in canon (or that's how I read it. lol) So no one had gotten the connection yet. But then, Hermione was already suspecious... and the slip... Thank you so much for reading and for the review.
My goodness, I'm exhausted! This is one of the busiest chapters I've read in quite a while. The scene in the Shrieking Shack deserves some kind of award for being so well written and tightly choreographed. It was busy as hell, but I had no trouble following the events in order. Take a bow, m'dear!I'm terribly worried about what will happen between Hermione and Severus now. He is so furious about her part in that fiasco to catch Black/catch Pettigrew. I can understand why he detests Sirius Black and blames Lupin for never trying to restrain Sirius and James Potter's attacks on him when they were students, but his inability to entertain the thought that Sirius might be innocent of causing Lily's death will surely be hard to overcome. This is likely the only time Sirius is innocent of involvement in something that hurt Severus, and this time only a handful of people know the truth, and none of them can convince him otherwise. What a mess. Now that Dumbledore has gotten Severus to resume making the Wolfsbane potion, I wonder if the Headmaster will ask Severus to allow Hermione to help him in brewing potions again? What a great chapter! Thanks.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Brayer, I love your reviews. lol I'm sorry to have worn you out, but I thank you for your comments. I wnated to finish year3 in this chapter, so I jammed everything in. Yes, there is a big misunderstanding, but again, he's equating this on the same level as Lily's betrayal. Yes, he blames Lupin for 'failing his prefect duties' by giving his friends so much leeway, and he hates Sirius blindly. Dunno if anyone can convince him Black is an innocent... lolDumbledore is more cncerned over Harry's development into his 'role' to be concerned with Hermione, that as long as she's learning as much as she can - that is all that matters to him. Thank you so much for the review. Happy New Year to you.
I have missed this story. It makes me sad that Severus is rejecting Hermione. Not sure how she can smooth things over. She didn't really attack him (according to your version), but short of a look at the event in the Pensieve so he could see her spell riccochet off Ron's, I don't think he will believe her. So much has changed him. She can't expect that he would be the same person that he was at 17. Too many emotional walls erected to keep her out. :(I trust you can find a way to resolve this.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm sorry, i got side tracked with holidays stuff but I'm back on track and typing agian. Unfortunatelly he sees this akin to Lily's betrayal. But we head into year4 next... wheee? lol
I'm glad you handled the scene in the shack the way you did. In this story, how Snape gets stunned is more important than hearing about Pettigrew's betrayal.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you. I know it's simular but shorter, but I wanted to finish this year and jammed it all in one chatper. I'm glad it worked. I think so too. Well, on to 4th year! wheeee!Thanl you so much for the review,
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
.
At last you've updated it again... you may want to go back and revise the part where you said you'd be updating every monday - I swear I've been checking this story daily lmao... Okay, enough of my whining, your a great author afterall and I would truly be missing out if you didn't do the story at all. Anyway I just hope that soon Severus gets his head out of his arse and starts talking to Hermione again =D
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm so sorry - but RL and holidays... *wipes egnog from face* relatives and busy... is that enough excuses? WOw, thank you so much for the compliment. I'm truly flattered. Well, year 4 strats -- next, and I know he'll be sticking his nose in... oops almost spoiled everything. Thank you very much for reading and for the review. I hope you had a wonderful New Years.
Like the lizard eggs. Pity he didn't see it the way she meant it.:)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL Well, it's not like students haven't taken from him before! *ahem* and it's not like he's not at all the suspecious sort. *snort*Thank you very much for the review, sunny. Happy New Year.
I had never considered that Severus' two Unbreakable Vows, one to protect Harry and the other for Draco, could have been fatal to him if both of them were fighting each other. That's downright brilliant, Bea! Well done. And Hermione's brilliant logic neatly put together all the clues to figure out that Severus was the Half-Blood Prince. To bad Harry didn't buy her theory about that. It might have saved Severus a few headaches in the future.I was glad that Severus had chosen to be so upfront with Hermione about his creation of spells and curses. I'm glad she learned more about the hardships he had faced as a child because that explains a lot about how he came to be the powerful wizard he has. Thanks for another great chapter, and now I have to go take care of a few RL errands. But I'll be back!Hugs, Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I just thought that since the fight between Draco and Harry had gotten so serious, that they were actually hurting each other that it might. I mean childish jinxes and hexes aside – they drew blood! So yeah, I went with it. Glad you liked that twist.
Could very well have if Harry wasn’t so pigheaded stubborn in disliking Severus, but it will take a brick to make him see Severus in favorable light / and the same for Severus to see Harry as an individual and not James Potter reincarnate.
A bit of back story that fills in a few things. That’s what’s fun about fanfic – I can bring out the human/vulnerable/sensitive side of his character and have him open up to her.
You are most welcome for the update. Thank you for reading and for your review. I do enjoying this with you, reading your thoughts and typing back. You always make me smile.
WOW! A lot happened in this chapter, not the least of which is that Harry finally got Slughorn's memory of Tom Riddle... finally.Draco is still working on his Vanishing Cabinet, and it seems that he has an almost inexhaustable cadre of Slytherin House mates to watch out for him when he's in the Room of Requirement. I wonder how many of them (if any) actually know what he's doing? At any rate, it's all driving Harry crazy.I imagine Severus was really surprised that Hermione had bested him in their dueling practice. I know part of it was "just dumb luck," but she is becoming a more skilled fighter and I think that pleases him. I noticed the similarity between their fantasies is becoming more intense, and of course I love that. Chizpurfles and whiteflurries– what a mess! I can only assume that the chizpurfles are sort of like brine shrimp or tardigrades (water bears), even if you dry them out, they'll reanimate if you rehydrate them. Now I have to go find out how Hermione did with her wandless Conceptions spells.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yep, whopped a bundle in here. I think that’s why my chapters get so long, I love adding in stuff and details and things.
Yep, he got the memory.
Oooh, brayer, it’s not as many as you think; remember, Crabbe and Goyle under Polyjuice Potion – that is canon. But yes, it’s not that hard yanking out a hair or two from unsuspecting firsties or seconds wandering the halls. Thirds and fourths are a little more cautious about hair yanks, but there is the careful lifting of a stray or loose hair from the back of a shoulder or back of a uniform if he’s sly enough.
Well, eventually the student becomes as good as the teacher, especially if said student is trying as hard to learn it all as Hermione does. That and she had a bit of ‘just dumb luck’ that time. lol Yep, wether he’s willing to admit it or not, he likes likes her and she him – and their imaginings are leaning toward more than just liking.Glad you approve. Teehehehe
Chizpurfles and whiteflurries – well Chizpurfles are like really annoying bedbugs-like pests that are attracted to magical beings, specifically strong magical beings (sort of but they will infest books as well, maybe they are more like magic sucking mites?) Lexicon says: A magical parasite that lives in the fur or feathers of some magical creatures, and can also infest magical items.
Whiteflurries are my creation. I was thinking along lines of white dust mites with wings and infectious bites, that along with regular mites, ticks, are small arthropods belonging to the subclass Acari and the class Arachnida. However, like Chispurfles, they are attracted to magical places and just as damaging as mites and such, and that, possibly, Whiteflurries bite or cause irritation to wizards and witches. (While some mites parasitize animals, including humans, others are scavengers, some feed on plants, and many prey on insects and other arthropods)… So these pests are really bothersome and can make a witch or wizard rather sick.
As to Hermione’s Conceptions spells, I’m going to quote Hagrid: "An' they haven't invented a spell our Hermione can' do."
Beth, thank you for the review, sweetie. Hope you have a great weekend coming up. Happy reading and hope 2016 is shaping up to be a good year for you.
Hello, Bea! I decided to read on TPP as much as I can and then I'll go to Ashwinder. I went back to chapter 44 and read up to here (the first chapter that I hadn't yet read) just to get my brain up to speed. I have to confess that I skimmed the reviews on this before I started this review... and I must say your replies to Sharn tickled me no end! I, too, loved this chapter, and I'll be referring back to it loads of times, I'm sure.Everytime a student Splinched I cringed, and I can understand why Hermione would have been so nervous. I wonder if she hadn't witnessed Susan Bones when she Splinched her leg, would she have been able to Apparate sooner. It's sort of like being warned by your riding instructor to keep you weight in your heels and don't loose you stirrup, and it's another thing to be able to do it when your horse shies at something the first time. I love the interaction between Severus and Hermione, and I'm hoping that the "sleeve" Hermione saw disappear frome the frame wasn't someone who was going to cause them trouble.Fabulous chapter! Thanks.Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Beth, happy New Year to you.
I’m not sure which review response you mean, but Sharn had some fun comments to comment on, as you tend to do, so I played back. Sometimes it’s fun to engage readers in the reviews.
I remember in canon Mr. Weasley casually mentioning someone getting Splinched in half and thought, with all my years in the medical field, having been a surgical tech and working in medical offices, gives me a bit of a medical background – and being cut in half, even magically, would be gruesome. So I gave the Splinching a lot of thought. (I even Splinched Hermione in half in Self-Writing Parchment and made it rather gory and life threatening.) So I would expect that seeing anyone Splinch, someone you know, would unnerve anyone, even Hermione. And I’m sure she read up on Apparition and Splinching in the library to prepare herself… so I went with it here. I’m glad you liked how I played it out for her. And it gave me an opportunity for Severus to reassure her, let his soft side come out again. I really like you analogy of the stirrup – it’s exactly like that in my book. Thanks for that.
I’m not giving anything away about the sleeve. But good pick up on that. It’s important and I think you’ll be a bit surprised by who…
Thank you for reading and for the review. I look forward to knowing what you think of the rest of the story. I wish you all the best, Beth, in 2016 for you and yours.
This chapter started me off with a laugh when the imperious witch was described as wearing Pepto-Bismol pink robes. And right on the heels of that came Severus' and Rolanda's very informative communication about what was going on in Germany. Birch twigs, indeed!
Your characterization of Delores Umbridge is spot on. She is totally supercilious and ridiculous looking with her "fly-eating grin" and her very pink robes. Irritating *cough cough* witch! The choice of books that she put in the Defense section after she'd had the good ones removed are clearly designed to graduate a class of ill-informed dunderheads, especially Anger Management for Dunderheads! LOL! Nice.
I'm glad that Sirius is going to send the twins some much needed texts on real Defense Against the Dark Arts! High Inquisitor Umbitch... err, Umbridge, is really getting under everyone's skin, teachers and students alike. I can't wait for Hermione to charm the Galleons for members of the Defense club and for them to find a place to begin meeting.
It was very clever of Severus to maneuver class so that Hermione would have detention with him. And when I read the last paragraph I thought to myself "now THIS is exciting!
“It was because of an entry in that diary he’d kept that he had made the decision that would hopefully not only change the outcome of the war and ensure that the Dark Lord wouldn’t be able to recruit as many to his side, but would hopefully change public opinion regarding the reputation of Slytherin House forever.” When I read this I cheered.
Another wonderful chapter, Bea! Thank you.
Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I figured that Severus might be familiar with Pepto-Bismo and the color - apt description for Umbridge IMHO. lol And I'm glad you liked how Rolanda gave her 'report' lol yes, in broom metaphor. I actually love to hate Umbridge, and I think it shows. As for Fred and George, I just assumed that they'd be on good terms with Sirius, and since all of their family (minus prick-Percy) are fighting against Voldemort, that they'd want to be prepared as well. So... yes, they asked for books. and being that they always (cough) abide by the rules, would have been glad to share them with Hermione. And yes, of course he'd arrange a 'detention' in order to speak to her in private without any Slytherin beingsuspicious. lol As for the quote, lol, you bet. }SS'sSlytherinDefenseClub?Thank you very much for the review, Beth. Happy New Year to you. hugs
I am starving! It is soooo hard to refresh the site three times a day just to see that there is still no 54th chapter...pleeaassee update soon!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I think I just got my corretctions letter - the holidays, things are a bit hetic and I just noticed it in my in box! Give me a day or two - it'll be up soon.
I love reading your reviews almost as much as reading the new chapters of this story. Thanks for the spoiler you just gave. Only it's going to make me even more impatient for the next chapters. But that's okay. I'll wait (like I have a choice). ANYWAY, I haven't posted a review of this chapter yet because I need to read it again before I do. I try to figure out your 'hints' and carefully placed tidbits of info so I can try to guess where you'll be going with the next chapter. Not that I ever guess rightly. Just a fun game I play with your story. Happy New Year, Bea
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I do try to answer every review I get, because if you took the time to write one, and I do love getting them, then it's only polite to respond. And I'll answer qustions if it doesn't give away too much. lol I like your game, and look forward to what you think. lol Seriously, I'm just delighted that you are enjoying the story and are sticking with me on it. Thank you for reading and for the review.
