Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Reviews for Consequences of Meddling with Time
Oh, gads, escape from Malfoy and gang only to end up running from a Gryffindor prefect! As much as she's told him, snippets and such already, she's right in not wanting to tell him about his future, although she's probably laready changed a few things. He's smart to let the matter drop, though. His shock about her age was funny. Nice how you explained the progression of acidemics at Hogwarts. Still, he must be really impressed by her and her abilities.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yep, from out of the firing pan, but at least she missed the fire. lolHermione is trying to hold back things that might change Severus in his future, so yes, there are things she's saying, but then she catches herself on others. She wouldn't want to tell him about Lily and the war and Death Eaters...Yes, well he did think she was a very capable forth-year, so I assume that by 4th year they are doing stronger spells. I just assumed that learning magic wuold be progressive. Oh, yes, he's impressed!Thank you for the review.
Oh, so Mr. Latimer is loving the fact that he has a tester, even if it means she gets into trouble. I can't believe that Dumbledore is so blas'e about it! But then he's interested in time travel as well, I suspect. Interesting that Snape remembers the jumps from the other time loops - it's the diary, right?Really cute that he gave Hermione a detention just to have her help him brew potions.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Think dotty old fart, cross between Einstein and Frankenstien in robes, frizzy hair and huge smile when excited and you have Mr. Latimer! He's got this invention and was told it was impossible and now Hermione is proving his theory right - he's thrilled! Dumbledore is also coaught up in the 'discovery' as well, wnating to know the possibilities. Yes, Severus remembers so much because he has the diary, and it's outside of the loop. All these time lines diverge from when he was in 6th year - so in a way, his young slef is outside/the beginning of the loops.Yes, well, he missed having her help, only he's now her professor and anything else would be inappropreate.Thank you for the review.
It's fun to see Hogsmeade from Severus' perspective, even if he didn't have a good time. I really liked that he snuck her out for a hike. That was fun, but the mutiple near misses with Avery must have made his heart pound, worrying about being found out! He's going to miss having her around though, isn't he?
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
He wanted to be with someone else, so he left to have a good time with her. The hike was fun to write and I myself enjoy them. hiking - strolling along a streambed is my fav. Yes, the return was a series of near misses, that thankfully worked out. Oh, yes, he'll miss her when she's gone.Thank you for the review.
Geeze, the bits with Potter and Black were so like bullies I knew in school. I'm glad that Severus' friends stood up for him. Hermione's really looking up at him, and I think he's starting to like it. It's cute that he's showing her spells.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
POtter and Black are bullies, and hate Severus, that's canon. Yes, Hermione is looking up to him, but then he is her professor in her time, so some of that respect is going to remain with her.Thank you for the review.
Oh the bits about the spoon were so cute. Her suggesting Muggle cooking utensils was hilarious. It was fun seeing his interactions with his housemates, too.Interesting that he's noticing so much about her 'habits' and she his.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Hey, whatever works, right? Yes, she made him one for no other reason than to give him something he needed,a nd he was blown away by that. Severus is liked by his housemates, not chummy per say, but friendly. They understand him somewhat, too. Oh yes, he's notcing and so is she. Thank you for the review.
Really love his snarkiness with her, although he is much nicer than he is as an adult. The changes to the room were a nice touch.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
I really am trying to have Snapish qualities in Severus so he seems in character. Thank you for the compliment and the review.
So the Time-Turner is differeent than the one in canon. Mr. Latimer and Dumbledore are experimenting with time and using Hermione as a tester? I noticed that when Severus was speaking to Dumbledore and McGonagall ther was a shift in his speech - from 'let me' to 'I went.' So we have another loop now, right?I like the idea of a diary, and was amused by Severus' discussion of potions with Severus. Boy, this could really get confussing if you don't pay attention!
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yes the Time-Turner is more complicated than the book version, and yes, Hermione is testing it out for Mr. Latimer. And Dumbledore is just as curious about the neew devise as it's creator.Yes, I tried to show a shift in the time paradox that way. His wording changed because Dumbledore changed his mind and Severus did go back. The diary plays a big part in this story, and it's outside of the time loops, with all the histroy of everything going on, possibly a bit more possibly a bit more information as well.Thank you for the review, I hope you aren't getting lost? The time loops are explained carefully in two other reviews for this chapter. Hope that helps.
Their interactions are adorable. Severus is so much like adult Snape. I giggled when she showed him how to get the mucus - something she'd learned from Professor Snape. Hope she doens't change too much.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Thnak you very much. I'm really trying to keep him like an untainted Snape to keep him in character. SHe will change a few little things, like this tip with the snail, but only time will tell what changes are going to happen because of her visit. Thank you very much for the review.
LOL I really like how Severus convinced his younger self to protect Hermione, by divulging potions techniques that he'd invented. What a hoot. And teenage Severus, his interaction with Hermione is pricless, so Snapeish.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yes, well, he had to get the kid in on his plans, so this is what I came up with. Besides, Snape made those discoveries, only who knows when the first time around. lolThank you, I'm really trying to keep Severus as close to an untainted Snape as possible. Thank you for the review.
Oh lord, she died! I liked how everything went belly up because Hermione wasn't there to help Harry.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Yes, she did, but all's well for now. Hermione was needed by Harry, without her, he'd be lost.Thank you for the review.
He was really sweet to care about her happiness enough to take this risk so that she could go to the game. I hope he looks fondly back at this friendship. And maybe remember his 6th year as one of his happiest. He had a secret friend that cared for him and they enjoyed their fellowship together and each gave something to the relationship. Hermione gave him total trust. And he protected and cared for not only her physical but also her emotional and educational needs. It will be so sad when the ugliness that is coming may make it difficult to remember these happy times. Maybe knowing Hermione is out there will help make what he has to do more bearable. His cause will be to protect the ones that need him and know there is one more person out there that believes in him and trusts him with no strings attached. Bless Dear Severus/
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Sneaking her out to the game with him was a risk, but yes, I think he enjoyed having her there, even if Mulciber got nosey. His 6th year, at least for a little while is happier, but there are loads of dark in his life to come. That’s not changed. You’ll see later the effect these moments have on him later on. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Naughty Crookshanks! :) I look forward to the next chapter. I like the way your story is woven into what already existed when JKR wrote. I know there are some changes. There would have to be, but it must be quite a challenge to keep it all straight! I love it and can't wait to read the next chapter!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Wha' What did poor old Crookshanks do? lol I'm glad that you like how I am weaving this story in and around canon. It's fun to do and there are so many possibilities. Yes, there are a few: Severus has his Slytherin anti-Voldemort group (like a green DA), and Hermione actually sees Severus for who he is rather than just as a teacher, she knows him somewhat and isn't afraid of him. I don't really have trouble keeping it straight while typing, its really fun for me. Thank you for reading and for the review. Hugs.
It's nice to see them enjoying time spending in each other's company. Even if they are just cleaning and replenishing cupboards. Next she'll help him grade some papers *wink*
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, it's nice to see companionship between them. However, I think Severus takes his job responsibilities seriiously and having a student do his work fo rhim would mean that he can't keep on top of his own work. sorry, he's to proud for that. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Lovely interactions. :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thka you very much. Thank you for the pretty stars.
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ^____________________________^ that was an incredibly enjoyable chapter. im super smiley right now.glad her curiousity got to her to ask how does he do potions so well. and yes severus totally is write abot the library but i can understand her being stir crazy. they would have to work a better system.ah from this time on future snape would totally be able to see his past influence on hermione in her work. wonder how will the other teachers take it. but thanks for an explanation of just what hermione does wrong in her papers.cute childhood stories. ver cute and full of bonding time. i like how snape has a muggle alarm clock. good work on the compulsion charm.ahhh and all that flirting and induendo! i was having a ton of fun. glad to know that snape totally knew what he was doing and that he was being a bit prickish but overall very fun. and the fact that he had such a large reaction in someone in a pleasing manner and in someone he liked... ^___^oooh hermione let a few more things slip out on the future.ah the wizardingcard. here i thouhgt hed get someone from his future. but no he just got a really rare card. and the ending! He was shocked by her statement. He stared at her as he fingered the edge of the card. “As if I’d forget you,” he mumbled inaudibly.awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww super sweet and waffy and just such a cutey snape.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you, I'm glad. Yes, she's very curious about his abilities and still hoping to learn from him. BUt he's right of course about the books and going to the library. lol Even taking direction about her essays - so yes, I'm sure Prof Snape and the others will see a diference in her writing.
Thnak you, and thank you.
It's so like a young guy to experiment and try things, and yes, he knew he was being prickish, but he was enjoying her reaction. Yep, Hermione did let a few things slip - a bit of validation for Severus of hat he'll have in the future.
The card is mentioned in chapter 9 - it was in the diary as a keepsake.
Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
She frequently saw Professor Snape talking to Headmaster Dumbledore, and they looked like they were confidants or friends, not just colleagues. She knew that Professor Snape had been Dumbledore’s spy because Dumbledore had stood up for Snape during his trial. how did she know this in third year? newspaper articles and such?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm guessign that there were articles in the library about the trial, and since Harry is in all those books she read before coming to Hogwarts, Severus might have been mentioned in them too. So that's why it's stated this way. Thank you very much for the review.
It's nice to see Severus interacting with his house's students. In JKR's originals, the students in each house seem to be on their own, almost like Lord of the Flies. I don't know much about the British boarding school system, but surely there's a bit more direction and control by adults than one would gather from canon Hogwarts descriptions.Anyhow, good job, nice update--and it's time to read the latest update on one of your other ongoing sagas, yeah!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Okay, we only see Harry's POV and Harry's opinion (unless someone stands up to him and gives him a stern talking to) so we have no idea how much involvement Severus had in/with his house, do we? And whose to say that the kids were always left to their own - PORTRAITS! Eyes and ears on the walls. Didn't it strike you as illogical that teachers patrolled the corridors are night? Old people need sleep and they have all those feet of parchments to grade, lesson plans to prepare for ... did you really think those protraits were for decoration? lol IMHO.Plus in this story, Seveurs has that diary, the Diary, with all those enteries with possible endings/outcomes and he wants to change that. So he's 'felt out' his Sltherins and selected those whose ideology don't exactly match the Dark Lord Voldemort's and is grooming them to be like him - on the fense or on the side of right. Like a Slytherin DA. See, not all SLytherins are bad, and some know right from wrong.I'm delighted that you enjoyed the chapter and my story. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Severus really help Hermione to see how she could make her essays so much better by not only giving the theories, but by relating them to each other and extrapolate on how they could be used in combination to achieve a desired result— just the way he brewed his potions. The way he teased her with his voice was a special treat. I like seeing this side of Severus, when he was younger and not so jaded. I particularly enjoyed seeing him realize that he really did have a sexy baritone voice that could make her blush. It's just a shame that the girls in his house didn't realize what a fantastic guy he is, but then I'm just as glad they didn't because then maybe he wouldn't have paid so much attention to her. This way he finds out just how special she is, too.
They could spend hours together and not get bored or run out of interesting things to talk about. It was fun to learn more about each of them when they were young enough to first manifest magic but not old enough to know how they did the things they did. It was very fortunate for Severus that his mother taught him how to defend himself. As it turned out for the young child, he was tormented by the bullies in the neighborhood, but he was able to soon make them think twice before trying to pick on him. Hexed 'em good, he did!
I imagine when Hermione found herself on top of her house was a really exciting day for everyone involved. Now, just how in the heck did she get up there? I laughed when Severus pointed out that the odd woman who used to drop by their house to see what was going on was probably from the Ministry there to undo any magic that couldn't have been explained by her parents open minded rationalizations.
They both have come to care very much for each other, and I know Hermione made a really big impression on Severus because Professor Snape kept the chocolate frog card she gave him. Yes, she is too young for Severus. He sees her as "just a third year," but a wonderfully intriguing and unforgettable young lady.Very nicely done! Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I keep trying to pull little Professor Snape traits into young Severus, only a bit softer, because he isn't jaded. Yet. His teaching her is one of them and his protectiveness another. Severus had seen Potter and Black trying to talk all sexy for girls, and his roommates even tried it - so here was a chance for him to - and it worked! He got the desired responces without really all that effort. Keep in mind that the Slytherin girls are ambitious = $$ not brains. Blood+$$ - not some guy that is from a poor family and half-blood. Unfair but a realistic possibility. So most of the girls in his house wouldn't really look at him as 'potential' It takes someone like Hermione to look past the obvious and see the guy within.Yes, this is what makes them such a good match, they have loads in common. I like the idea of 'what kinds of accidental or uncontrolled' magic would they have done. So it was fun to invent some. The idea that a kid in mismatched clothes, scrawney and unkempt would have been picked on in school - the odd little kid. So, yes, I have him do little things to protect himself. Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Quite a sweet chapter and letting him have the chocolate frog card as a memento...
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you. The frog card was mentioned in chapter 9, it was in the diary - a keepsake. I'm glad that you liked the chapter. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
How I love this chapter. Knowing about Hermione and Severus' firt displays of magic was so fun. And then he tried the voice. I nearly melted on my couch. And I bet she too. I was hoping for a first kiss but I guess it's too early for that. Anyway thank you for the quick update. I'm awaiting the next one impatiently.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yep, it's fun to think what kinds of 'accidental or uncontrolled' magic these two might have down as kids. LOL and the 17 year-old tryin out his 'voice' on a girl to make her blush, such a young man thing to do. Nope, sorry no first kiss yet, he only just found out she's 3rd-year - and possibly (in his mind) only 13. Quite a bit young to a 17 year-old guy. But I have plans. Thak you for the review and the pretty stars.
Come on!!! He's acting all flirty with her and nothing happens? When are they going to kiss? I can't wait much longer. And she dropped a lot of info about himself and he didn't even question her. She mentioned that she knew him later and he didn't ask how old he was. And she told him he was a Potions master and he just agreed. And the porcupine quills scare me. What did Avery want with them? And the Chocolate Frog Card...does that lead to something later on, like something big?Oh, I love this story. i hope another chapter is up soon.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL Yes, he flirted with her, but only because it was so fun to make her blush. For some reason boys like that responce. I suppose he was feeling 'playful.' However, he now knows she's third-year, 13 (or so he asumes) and he's 17 (Easter of his sixth-year would make him 17) and so as teen age boys do, he sees her a smuch too young for him. But wait a bit longer, please, boy do I have plans!Yes, and his keen mind would have remembered that his older self had used Potion tips as a means of establishing his identiy, not only books he'd read or little trips down memory lane - helpful hints! So he is assuming correctly that his olderself knew/knows her. Besides, it was like having his highest hope confirned, Mastery in Potions and Dark Arts extrodinare. The porcupine quills - dunno what Avery wanted with them? A prank, an excuse to see what Severus was up to? sorry, but I have the next few chapters written and Severus never finds out. If you remember in chap 9 - the card was in the diary, a treasured keepsake. It will appear one more time later on.I hope to ahve 12 ready soon and will send it to SW as soon as I can. Thank you so much for the review and the pretty stars.
Response from Elizabeth (Reviewer)
Ha, if he sees her as too young now, just wait until he's an adult. Then how will he feel? LOL
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
You'll see.
Ah, so sweet. I can just hear young Severus trying to get a reaction out of her with his velvity baritone. It sounds to me as if he likes her more than he should, considering the circumstances. But the heart knows no boundaries. It transends time and space.I anxiously await your next chapter.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yes, here is a guy who has seen his mates/Potter and Black using their voices in a low smooth manner to flirt, sounding ridiculous in his opinion and now he has someong to try his voice on -- and it WORKS! she blushed, gapped like a stunned guppy and stammered! 'Oh, cool, so I can do it,' kind of thing, only his voice lends to the effect well and he knows it. What guy wouldn't love getting that kind of reaction just from the sound of his voice? lol But your right, he sees her as 13(third year) and too young, (he's 17 - Easter of his sixth year - that's too big of an age gap to a teenage boy) and she is from a future where his older self knows her. (older self looked old, you know, to a 16year old boy) Be patient, with age the age-dif doesn't matter so much...Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
How amazingly sweet. I do enjoye their interactions.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Naughty Severus, getting Hermione (and me) all worked up with that mellifluous voice of his. We didn't stand a chance! His advice concerning her essay writing was done kindly and tactfully. She did pretty well with the criticism of her work without hexing him purple over it. Just friends helping friends do a better job. And I loved the discussion of past magical mishaps! The way that Severus compares Hermione to the females in his time only reinforces the fact that not only is she unforgetable but unique as well. Their friendship is special enough to protect - even when they have a disagreement. I do hope that he relents and lets her out for some fresh air soon. They had such a good time on the last adventure. Great update, Mystery Author!!! :D
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
With that velvty smooth baritone - who does! ahhhhh.Yes, it's the 'Professor Snape' coming out in him, and it is easier because he's not so curt about it. It was a challenge to come up with Hermione's early childhood mishaps and his reactions came easily to me.Yes, the way he does compare her to them makes you wonder, he doesn't much like girly-girls, apparently, and obvously doens't like the 'don't be smarter than the guy' thing. And even though they have a disagrements, he's taking his responsibility seriously and does really like her. (shh! Yes, they will be going outside - don't tell any one)LOL Thank you for the review and the stars.
Wow. He's got it bad.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL yes, he actually cares for her. If he'd let himself, he'd love her. But as all 16 year-olds are he now thinks she's 13, and much too young. Little does he know!Thank you for reviewing.
