Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Whew! I'm amazed all of them don't have splitting headaches after this discussion. So tell me if I've got this right. At this moment, at the end of this chapter, is Professor Snape the only one who knows that Hermione died? Which jump would that have been? The forth one? The jump that even Hermione doesn't remember, because student Snape saved her from being attacked?I was s bit surprised by Dumbledore's questions to Hermione about how student Snape treated her? For some reason he seemed to think that Severus would have tried to rape her? What's all that about?I really like the fondness Severus feels for the memories that he recalled when reading his diary. And I'm tickled pink that he is finding ways to spend time with her by giving her detentions and allowing her to perfect her talent at potions. Not only will he be able to see her, he will be able to keep an eye on her and see that she doesn't get into any more trouble.... I hope.Hermione's delight at being able to brew the three potions to heal burns is obvious, but I'll bet when he tells her she is going to assist him in brewing the Wolfsbane Potion, she will be over the moon! This should give her plenty of reason to be careful with her use of the Time Turner.Great update!!!Beth

Well, Mr. Latimer was taking notes of the meeting, so at least he will have it all sorted out. kidding.
Okay, I’ll try to clarify things:
The jump in which Hermione died was the first mishap. (Her double-jump 1) The one Professor Snape1 went back to fix years later. (Severus jump 1 when he spoke to TeenSeverus1) So (Hermione jump 1) is cancelled out, as in didn’t happen. So TeenSeverus1 waits for Hermione like he’s told and hides her. (This is Hermione jump2 – beginning on chap2-ends on chap4 when she returns.) but because jump1 is erased, only ProfSnape1 remembers it – he told himself, TeenSeverus1, that it happened; that’s why ProfSnape remembers it later on.
However, there are two (Hermione) jumps that occurred after that were disastrous, (Hermione jump 3-4 “The girl had another mishap with the Time-Turner and had gone back to his time again, not once but two more times!” when “she nearly got caught in the cross fire between him, Potter, and Black the first time, and the second time she ended up in Gryffindor tower for a month.” (chap4) In chap4 TeenSeverus1 has grown up, he remembers what his older-self told him about the mishaps (Her-jump3-4) and death (Her-jump1).
So Professor Snape(TeenSeverus1 grown up) went back (Severus jump 2 – he asked Dumbledore for the Time-Turner chap4) to fix things again. However, he meets himself-TeenSeverus by going back to shortly after Hermione had left from (Hermione jump 2 – the one where Hermione is safely tucked away and protected by TeenSeverus – technically this could be a TeenSeverus2 but then it gets too confusing) This is the jump you Snape make in chap2-4.
With me so far? He goes back to his teen self, so Hermione jump 3-4 are cancelled out. So to be able to remember what’s happened in all four jumps – Severus starts a diary, one he’ll carry back with himself. It’s the constant – a journal log of all jumps, passed from one Severus to another.
So now we have Hermione jump 5 – the second time TeenSeverus1 hides Hermione. (chap5-8) There are plenty of time paradoxes in this story, which is confusing, I know, hence the title: Consequences of Meddling With Time.
Ok? Did that help or are you even more confused than before?
Okay, Dumbledore. Dumbledore likes controlling everything, organizing, manipulating and knowing what’s happening. From chap4: He looked up at Severus with that damnable look of intrigue in his eyes. “I don’t suppose you’d care to indulge two old men in what you know? I’m sure Cronus would pay handsomely for your knowledge.”“No,” Severus said flatly. “Ah, well,” Dumbledore sighed. “I’ll just have to talk you into it.”Severus isn’t divulging everything. Sure he answers questions, but do you get the sense from his meeting in this last chapter (9) that he isn’t going into detail? Just enough to answer the question – but not tell everything. Plus, in the return bits, when Hermione returns to her own time, Professor Snape is his usual acerbic, blunt, indifferent, and derogatory self, degrading her and keeping a her at a distance – but still watching over her. Only in the return from Hermione’s 5th jump (see above) are there any hints (tiny Freudian slips) that he has started to care about her and he’s admitted to another Hermione-jump! (Hermione jump 6 – I’m typing that one out currently and have it nearly completed.) No, I’m sure that Dumbledore is not concerned about rape/sexual behaviors, but that Severus is showing signs of caring for her as an adult when Dumbledore needs him focused on: “The Greater Good = Harry defeating Voldemort at any cost!” Professor Snape loves Hermione = possible problematic situation.
Yes, Professor Snape, after Hermione jump 5 has spent enough time with Hermione to have fond memories of her. She was an anachronism that his younger self enjoyed the company of for a little while. In this time, she was his student and completely unattainable. He saw no future for them; he made sure of it on a daily basis. Then he turns around and invents ways to spend time with her. LOL And I’m sure that Hermione, will appreciate the private tutelage with her surly Professor, since he’s trying to keep his ‘guard up’ around her. (Good luck, Professor)
Well, this was surely fun to answer, thank you. And thank you for the review and the stars.
Response from braye27 (Reviewer)
Thanks bunches for cataloging the jumps relative to each "jumper." It did make things clearer, I just need to make myself a flow chart of jumps made and jumps cancelled for each character to get it all locked down in my mind.
*old age is a pitiful thing*
Smashing good story!
Beth
He's quite sweet when slips up, isn't he? :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yep, there's a few Freudian ones in there, huh? LOL Thank you for the review.
awwwww, that chapter had a lot of insight as well as a lot of questions. i of course particuliarly liked the emotional slips: "“Do you ever think about the risks you take, the dangers you put yourself in on a regular basis? I cannot always be there to save you—to protect you.” .... I spend more time worrying about you—”^_____^and then looking at his diary with such fondness. awwww.but gee did dumbledore seem accusatory toward snape when hermione first came back.i'm very curious to see how this will develop. its a wonderful idea and i just love it.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Grr it was supposed to answer all the questions! lolYes, Severus did have a few Freudian slips there in this chatper. Did you think that weeks spent with her would have no impact on him? Dumbledore knows that Hermione went back, knows that Severus hid her, but did you get the feeling that Severus might be a bit closed mouthed/close to the vest on what they did? hmmm? Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Clever Severus. Assign her detentions to have a foolproof way of her working with him again. What a terrible thing it must be for him to go through. At sixteen, the age difference between them is not so bad, but at age 33, it does not feel so innocent anymore.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yep, he's a clever one. Yes, the delima I tried to convey in his thoughts after the meeting with Dumbledore and Mr. Latimer. Thank you for the reveiw and the pretty stars.
Poor Severus.Every where he goes he is reminded of how alone he is. And the one witch he would like to be with in the open is the one who is the big secret.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Aw, I didn't think about it quite like that, but you're right. *sniff* it's sad really. Thank you for the review, (find a kleenex...) and the pretty stars.
Hmmm, Severus' friends are definately getting suspicious of all the time he is spending in that classroom. I love how Hermione is beginning to idolise Severus. I wonder how it will be when she gets back to her time?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
well, Severus can be a bit moody and withdrawn so it's normal to worry when he's missing so much. Wouldn't you, if your friend suddenly was always going off to be by himself? I see a 14 year-old Hermione as still being amazed at what one can do with magic - knowing that she will be able to do it as well, so yes, there is that 'looking up to' and Severus is showing her things above her year level. Dunno how I'll have it when she returns, you'll have to wait and find out. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Its wonderful that Severus finally has someone who gives him things just because, and actually supports him against the unfairness of Potter and friends. Its no wonder he is so intrueged by her.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Herminoe is a giving person and Severus has not had that in his life before, I don't think, so the gift really surprised him... No strings attached. Yes, they found someone who they can really like, and they are timelines apart. Thank you very much and for the pretty stars.
Too bad the older Severus could not give his younger self an entire list of when Black and Potter were on the attack. It would have saved so much trouble and anger!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I know, but who's to say that just because he got a list and avoided what happened in older Severus' time that it would help younger Severus. Potter and Black have the map, they could find him anyway, so all the attacks would happen anyway only in a different place. possibly. Thank you so much for the review and stars. Hope you like the rest.
Wow. It is quite hard to keep track of all the paradoxes and complications of Hermione going back in time. I just hope Severus can pull it off.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you! Yes, this chapter was really confusing for a lot of people who missed the 'changes' happening. I'm glad you seemed to have caught on to them. Thank you for reading and for the pretty stars.
Oh dear. It seems that spending so much time with Hermione has made her rather interesting to him. I can only wonder what his older self will think when she gets back to her time.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL Yes, he has met a girl so like his younger self that she is intriguing. But twenty years is enough to put a 'teenage crush' away and move on. That you for reading, the fun review, and the pretty stars.
I am glad the younger Snape was open to the fact that he would have to help some unknown and unexplained young girl. The only thing I don't understand is why Hermione could return to tje future so quickly the first time, but has to wait until the time turner is ready this time?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I know it seems like a goof, but her 'return' isn't actually seen because I immediately erase that timeline. She totally melted the Time-Turner in that timeline. Some will be expalined later, in chapter 4 (which is confusing) and chap 9. Thank you very much for the pretty stars and the review.
Interesting to see how Hermione's death set the chain of events into motion that leads to Harry's death and Voldemort's victory. I only hope Snape can fix it all.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
That's the purpose of the story, sort of... Thank you very much for reading this and for the review and pretty stars.
Very nice, I like young Snape very much.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. He's so much fun to play with. Good news, there are three jumps when she's with him in his sixth-year. Hope you enjoy them. Thank you very much for the review.
I can't believe this: "He couldn’t believe he was washing twice in one week. The things I do for this girl!"I should hope he would wash everyday for her. esêcially the hair...
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL welll, in every description he has 'greasy' hair. I looked up Spinner's End and read how it's most likely one of a Victorian mill town row houses, that are two up and two back (only two rooms upstairs and two downstairs) and probably has communal bath houses in the back - so if that's the case, Severus isn't used to bathing all that frequently. I mean you have to go outside to wash - yuck! In the rain, snow... Besides, there was a time when people only bathed once a month! So I made the assumption that he bathed once a week as a habit, and used a refreshing charm most of the time. Besides, Hermione would be used to his 'greasy hair' from her own time. Hope that explains why I did it this way. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars. Sorry to ramble at you.
This is a cute story. Without being TOO cute (that's good). I like the unusual interaction between Hermione & Severus. Hope you post the next chapter soon :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. I have it ready to go so hopefully I'll post soon. I'm glad that you like the interactions between them. They are really fun to write. Thank you for the review.
She will be smitten soon! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Wouldn't you be? Thank you for reviewing, sunny.
I like how they're slowly coming together here. And Hermione's respect for Severus is nice to see too. I'm sure it will seep through into the future.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much, debunk. I think she has always respected Snape, but has come to like Severus. He's closer in age and is being nice to her - how she'd have wanted her Professor to be. You'll see a tiny bit of how things 'seep' in chapter 9 and more starting in chapter 14 - but i'm not really going to rehash the books 4-7. There will be large jumps of time, and bits and pieces. Sorry. But I'll have to move forward to where I want to go. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
It's so good to see Severus smiling and enjoying life, enjoying her company. I cherish those moments because they are relatively rare in fanfiction.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you,
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
. Yeah, I don't know why, I mean, Hogwarts couldn't have been all 'bad' for Severus. I'm really enjoying typing these scenes between Hermione and Severus. So, you'll have more of them. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
^_^ i like how his fellow slytherins help him out. i also liked how lupin tries to help at times. but ooo rowe is suspicious, i wonder if he'll find out or any of the maraders or anyone else.and awww snape telling about himself after she asks.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, the Slytherins are friends with Severus in his sixth year and he's accepted. But that has it's own set of problems. LOL Rowe was simply looking for Sev to see if he was all right. He was bleeding and limping alfter all. Lupin, accordig to his olferself in canon, didn't do much to stop his friends - but he couldn't let things go too far, Sev had an appointment with McGonagall. Wouldn't look good for him to show up bloody, and blame Potter and Black, now would it? Yes, it was nice of him to tell Hermione about himslef - but them she was about to faint. LOl Thank you for the review.
love how they get closer and closer. great update. thanks so much
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you, kimjo, you're welcome, and thanks for the reveiw. Yes. Little by little.
Really fun and interesting chapter. I wonder how his meeting with McGonagall went. You didn't mention what was said. Did she believe it when he said he was not responsible?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh, well, no I didn't show his meeting with McGonagall. Yet. I'm glad that you liked the chapter. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Oh, just have Severus give her some Polyjuice Potion and stun the person she's going as. Then Hermione can go with him to Hogsmeade. I love how he relies on seeing her. It's nice to see him trust her. I wonder how it affects his relationship as a teacher. It would be interesting to see grown Severus' point of view before Hermione knows of her relationship with him--he'd watch her knowing what he'd done with her and she has no clue. And then once she's come back after being with him, how will they act towards one another? Does it change how the future will be? Will he be willing to protect Harry if he doesn't love Lily anymore? Or is this completely AU?I love this story. I was making lunch and kept stopping what I was doing because I can't stop thinking about it. I was giggling and my husband kept asking me what was so funny. I just get all girly when I think about them young together. I look forward to more.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL As if I hadn't thought of that! What's interesting is that his dorm/house mates want the stuff! You'll see some interaction in chapter 9 and again in chapter 14 of Professor Snape and Hermione. Yes, i'm ahead of you, I know what happens. Most of the story that I've written so far is of them together as 'kids'. So you have more ot that to look forward to. Thank you for the fun review and for telling me it made you giggle.
He is so sweet when he's with her. How will that translate when she's back to her own time?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
He'll be snarky, sneering, and Snapish! LOL I'm having a lot of fun typing Hermione's interaction with young Sev. So, you'll have more of that. Thank you for the review.
This is great. Those two are so well matched.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Couldn't agree more! Thank you,
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
, for the review and the pretty stars.
Sirius and James have given Severus plenty of reasons not to like them, and someday I hope they realize just how badly they behaved.I like the way the friendship between Hermione and Severus is growing. I hope they can think of a way for Hermione to be able to be able to go to Hogsmeade weekend with Severus, perhaps some kind of disillusioning charm to keep her hidden from prying eyes during their trip. I think she would love to get out of the room for a bit, and Severus would dearly love to have her accompany him. They get on so well that I find myself thinking about the future when Hermione goes back to her own time. Will she and Professor Snape still feel those bonds of friendship with each other when see one another again. That will be an interesting time in the story.I really like this tale, and I'm looking forward to your next update. Good job!Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well, brayer, in canon Remus does, Sirius does't, and James is dead. So, I'd say, yes, no, and no. LOL Oh I have plans! You'll love the next chapter! You'll see Professor Snape 'interact' with Hermione in chapter 9, and again in chapter 14. It' might or might not be what you think. But there will be some 'interaction' shown to represent her school years, but I'm not going to rehash 4th - 6th years. Basically, apart from what happened after Hermione's first faux pas trip in the past, I don't plan at this time to regurgitate those years, but you'll see bits and pieces. I hope you aren't disappointed to see what I do tell in this story.
I'm glad that you like this story. Thank you for the pretty stars and the fun review.
