Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Thank you very much. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
His friends still think he's fixated on Lily. Little do they know. He's going to suffer tomorrow. Should have brewed a hangover potion while he was at it. LOLJust love the time they spend together in the past.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well, Severus isn't exactly telling them anything contrary either. He does keep secrets well. Or sleep it off. Thank you very much. and thank you for the review.
Yay, she got out for a bit!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, and will again! Thank you for the review and the stars.
Thank you so much for the outing! I loved it!!! My heart was in my throat the whole time Hermione was being stared at and when she got separated from Severus I almost squeaked out loud. LOL I love how involved I get reading this story. He's going to be grumpy in the morning to say the least, and I don't envy him the headache and stiffness he'll feel. At least he can potion his way out of the worst of his symptoms. He'll probably be embarrassed about falling asleep there. Hermione must have been elated about the whole adventure. Maybe she will be able to lighten his spirits. Excellent chapter! :D
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh, if you like this one wait till the next chapter - and the one after that! I'm pleased that you can get into this story, that makes me smile. FYI - I have another outing coming up! Thank you very much for reading and the pretty stars.
The next morning should be interesting.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL Maybe he'll jsut sleep it off. Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
LOL She is going to see him so differently when she gets back this time! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, she's going to ahve to adjust her thinking a bit. Thank youfor reading and for the review.
Completely drunk and he still manages to get her food and drink. And I loved when he called her "my little Gryffindor!"
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
He probably snuck the food and drinks into his pockets early on, hoping to get away. Thank you very much for reviewing and the pretty stars.
awesome..cant wait to read the rest!! keep going XD
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Next chapter is in queue and SW has the one after that. I hope they post soon. Thank you very much for the stars and the review.
It's so nice to see how they are growing on each other. The scene with Severus playing with his voice is priceless.Good work, I'm really looking forward to what you have in mind for the next chapters.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. It's fun to type a seventeen year-old Severus, with some of the quirks of his older self only with his defences down. I hope to have the next chapter up shortly. Thnak you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Sweet interactions. Loved the sexy voice part. Mmmm.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm gald that you enjoyed that. Thank you for reviewing and the pretty stars.
Aww! That was so cute... I loved the flirting and the last line... "As if I'd forget you". Adorable. I love it.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much, and thank you for reviewing and the pretty stars.
Another wonderful chapter. His flirting and making her uncomfortable was adorable. He can fllirt with me anytime! lolLike you i tend to feel he was picked on as a child and I feel Hermione might have been picked on for being a smarty pants when she was in primary school. They have much in common. I wonder if hermione is always going to be this age when she takes trips back in time, or if an older Hermione will venture back and be closer to age to Severus here. Looking forward to more as always.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Wasn't that fun, his trying out his ultra sexy voice just to see what the effect would be?Yes, I was a small thin girl who wore homemade clothes and I was picked on by my peers. I know how cruel kids can be and Severus wasn't your 'normal' kid. Hermione too might have had the same thing, your right. Oh, doll, I can't tell you how old she'll be on the next jump, LOL. I want to, I wrote it already, butThank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Its is great that Severus finally has someone to just be with. He is the most himself with her. It is just so sad that she has to leave him again.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, it is and it's good that he's able to be himself with her. Thank you for the review again, and the stars.
Its really sweet that Severus has some one to talk to and just be with at last. Its just really sad that she has to leave him again.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, its good that he's forming a friendship with her and has been able to open up and be himself. But alas, it will not last forever, well, for a long time, perhaps.Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
I really enjoyed this chapter in the "present". I showed how much Severus came to like her in the past. But frankly I cannot fathom why on earth Dumbledore chose to let her use the Time Turner again after that meeting. That is extremely irresponsible. And IMHO your Dumbledore cleare showed how much he trusts Snape by insinuating something untowards might have happened in the past.I'm waiting for the next update ....
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Yes, he did come to really like her and it's starting to stay with him this time around.Dumbledore knows that the use of the Time-Turner will not harm Hermione since the device has a 'return' feature on it. Plus with her mishaps, there is a safety net (Severus) to help her even thought Dumbledore isn't in control of the teenage Slytherin. Hense the concerns about Severus' behavor - Dumbly isn't in control of the situtation (teengae Severus - not adult Snape) and wants to be certain that Miss Granger is being cared for not mistreated by a randy teen who gets to hide her in what is esscentually a bedroom/lab. (If they were both 17 I could really make this NC-17! desk. bed. privacy. unlimited time. showers.)Why is she allowed to keep using it? Simple really. Truth is, Mr. Latimer is a scientist, with a new invention, and now has a subject (Hermione) who is testing it for him! And he's thrilled with her 'discoveries' and the reports and infromation he is recieving. Dumbeldore is as intrigued by the device as well, even asking Severus to tell him about his 'adventure' with it in chapter 4 as they walk to Snape's office. Course Severus says no, but Dumbly simply add, "Ill talk you into it." He's as interested with the idea of the Time-Turner as Latimer is.Hope that clears up my intentions. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars. SW has my next one and I hope it posts soon, too.
Oh, goodness. This is going to be fun.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thak you. I hope you like it, and don't get too confussed. Thank you for the stars and the review.
I'm glad I read a few of your responses to reviews as it helped sort out exactly what happened. The slips that Severus made about caring for Hermione made it seem to me that perhaps a little romance happened between them in one of her jumps back. Even if it might be only on his side. For all I know I could be really off. It would make more sense for that to happen then him waiting for her in their real time when he is so much older than her. It's actually pretty sad when you think about it. He knows that waiting for her as an adult is not probable. He knows there is too much at stake with Voldemort and protecting Potter, but sometimes knowing isn't enough when you care so much for someone. I guess I will have to wait on pins and needs for more chapters! Please don't keep us waiting long. I'm very much enjoying this story!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm sorry that it was confusing, but yes, I had to sit down and work it all out for a few people, and I'm glad I did. His Freudian slips, there is something there, but I did not engage them in anything sexual while she is 14/3rd year. Just some typical teenage impressionsn and wayward thoughts, ramdom impressions, but Severus as a teen is really trying to be a gentleman. Yes, it's sad, when you think that here is a girl with whom he has so much in common with and she's unattainable given the current circumstances. Don't sit on pins! They hurt! I sent SW my next chapter and hopefully you'll have it soon! Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
How I love this fic!!!!
Very well done indeed.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. I'm deeply flattered. I love the pom-pom girl.
I can see the Slytherin pointing his (large) nose here. *grin* But I must say Severus' reaction is bordering the limits I can accept: she's only 14 after all. And imaging him lusting after her at his current age makes me sick.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Cute, as far as the border - there is an attraction in that fact that he really likes her, enjoyes her company and he thinks at times she's cute. Its not a lustful (at least I'm trying to keep it that way) or 'big brother' thing, but there is an attraction, and he does feel protective toward her. Hard to explain. He will not corss the line in the next jump, he does see her as a kid. However there is no denying that they are kindred souls and she is adorable at times. I don't think Hermione is even aware of his mixed feelings yet. Yes, he's only 3 years older and not suave or experienced with girls, so some of her little actions confuse him, not ever having been the recipient of some one to care for and about him. That too is confusing for him. I hope the next jump back doesn't push any 'sick' buttons. Thank you for the honest review and the pretty stars.
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
I think I wasn't clear enough. I don't mind when she jumps back in time that this young Severus is protective or even more. Like you said he is only three years older. What I don't particularly like is Professor Snape's feelings towards her, when is older, even if I'm practically sure he won't act upon them. I hope thag clarifies things.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh_OH! geeze. You are the only one that picked up or percieved a lustfull... That wasn't so much my intenion. True that as a young wizard&professor, any eligible witches (wife) that he might consider would most likely have been or was a student of his, unless he quite teaching or traveled more. But he's looking at the diary his teenage self wrote, all the details and entries, reminiscing about someone who he cared about - and considering how long he cared for Lily, Hermione played a significent roll in his sixth year, if only for brief spells. And he'd just left a meeting when she'd reappeared, thus the time continuum has changed, and hit him. His reaction toward her from chap 4 to this time has changed, and is stronger. That being said, Hermione is an anachronism (his time as a student and in his past as a friend-who possibly meant more) that as a teen he'd really liked. Does that mean he forgets what he felt for her? no. Now - Any association he might try to have with her, (as a lab partner or mentored in any way, given her private tutelage - which is what I have goign through his mind, not sex) could become a problem: Voldemort might find out. But if he could - mentor or tutor her, Hermione would become exceptional in his mind. That's a arrogrant statement, but not too far off. The Diary is in reality memories of his youth - and contains all her jumps, the ones he rememebrs and the ones that went wrong. (that will be clairfied later - but the diary is outside the time loops continum and parallels) He misses revising with her, discussing things, brewing together... He was thinking about what if... if she'd been from the time of his youth - but now it's impossible to even think about her. I truely believe that Hermione is his perfect soulmate - and if he has to wait three more years - that's nothing to an adult. Time flys fast. But he does't consider it. Not now.But he slams the diary closed and shoves it away, determined to teach her and protect her from harm. However, he contrives a way to set up brewing time with her. Opens the door for a lab assistant. Considering all Snape does, teach 10 lower level Potions lessons (first- thru fifth-years) and 4 advanced Potions lessons a week, half that are double Potions, grade essays, brew potions for the school hospital, making cerfew rounds, staff meetings, quartly reports, supply requests, cure any Dark Art cursed victim of the school... When does the man sleep? Why wouldn't he consider taking a lab assistant, and who would he have considered? Malfoy? Yeah, right.I don't normally respond when an author responds to my responce, or get into a dialogue, but I want you to know that in no way do I have him lusting or acting lustful toward her in thier contact as professor and student. He's his snarky, demeaning, degrading self-rightous, close to the vest, always on guard, sneering slef. At least until she grows up, but lepords don't change sopts all that easily.I have the chapter of the next jump written, and her return. I think you'll be ok with how things go, but he's the only on ewho knows about all the jumps and is effected by them. Hermione so far is efected by 2 (you'll see the 3 one soon) and there is one more planned. But that's all I'm going to say.
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
Thank you so much for the detailed clarification.
Poor Severus always stuck in these awful situations! I'm intrigued. I can't follow all the going back and forth in time but that could be ME rather than the writing. I am a bit confused.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, he does have a 'protector' streak in him, doesn't he?To sort out all the jumps, maybe this will help: (or confuse you even more )
Okay, I’ll try to clarify things:
The jump in which Hermione died was the first mishap. (Her double-jump 1) The one Professor Snape1 went back to fix years later. (Severus jump 1 when he spoke to TeenSeverus1) So (Hermione jump 1) is cancelled out, as in didn’t happen. So TeenSeverus1 waits for Hermione like he’s told and hides her. (This is Hermione jump2 – beginning on chap2-ends on chap4 when she returns.) but because jump1 is erased, only ProfSnape1 remembers it – he told himself, TeenSeverus1, that it happened; that’s why ProfSnape remembers it later on.
However, there are two (Hermione) jumps that occurred after that were disastrous, (Hermione jump 3-4 “The girl had another mishap with the Time-Turner and had gone back to his time again, not once but two more times!” when “she nearly got caught in the cross fire between him, Potter, and Black the first time, and the second time she ended up in Gryffindor tower for a month.” (chap4) In chap4 TeenSeverus1 has grown up, he remembers what his older-self told him about the mishaps (Her-jump3-4) and death (Her-jump1).
So Professor Snape(TeenSeverus1 grown up) went back (Severus jump 2 – he asked Dumbledore for the Time-Turner chap4) to fix things again. However, he meets himself-TeenSeverus by going back to shortly after Hermione had left from (Hermione jump 2 – the one where Hermione is safely tucked away and protected by TeenSeverus – technically this could be a TeenSeverus2 but then it gets too confusing) This is the jump you Snape make in chap2-4.
With me so far? He goes back to his teen self, so Hermione jump 3-4 are cancelled out. So to be able to remember what’s happened in all four jumps – Severus starts a diary, one he’ll carry back with himself. It’s the constant – a journal log of all jumps, passed from one Severus to another.
So now we have Hermione jump 5 – the second time TeenSeverus1 hides Hermione. (chap5-8) There are plenty of time paradoxes in this story, which is confusing, I know, hence the title: Consequences of Meddling With Time.
Ok? Did that help or are you even more confused than before?
Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.I have to tell you that I just love the name Chronos for a Time-Turner maker. Every time I see his name I grin.Anyways, thanks for all of the information on Hermione's jumps. I only had one or two questions, and you answered about a dozen that I didn't think to ponder. I know you can't give away anything, and I really wouldn't want you to; but it is my sincere hope that Albus doesn't 'greater good' Severus and Hermione apart. I enjoy her trips back in time with him. Even with all the challenges of hiding her, he seems so much happier with her in his life. (I'm a sucker for a HEA, can you tell?) Excellent update! :D
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I love his name too, Chronos Latimer, which was La Timer when I started thinking about him and stumbled upon Chronus. If you really want to have the jumps down, I actually summed it up for brayer in her review, (tried to sort out the confusioin - and it's anazing how many jumps she's actually made. Keep in mind, Chronos' journal and Severus' diary are both being filled out with what is going on and being passed along (ie: Severus takes it back to himself) So these books are outside the loops and have all the information of what really happened. All the jumps! (Severus' has other details as well.)I hate to say it, but okay, yes, there is another character death planned, however keep in mind this is a Time-Turner fic! What's HEA? But yes, Severus is much happier with her in his life, she actually cares for him, likes him a great deal, and it's something young Severus really needs. Thank you for the review. I hope I didn't upset you with my warning.
Response from rosered (Reviewer)
Don't worry about upsetting me, Mystery Author, I trust you. And I apologize about the confusing acronym usage, I get carried away sometimes. A 'HEA' is a Happily Ever After. :D
Snort... devious as always, our beloved Snape is. I think it's utterly rediculous that Dumbly let Hermione keep the Time-Turner. Of course, this is just another example of letting children do the work of adults. Great update. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, our guy is really clever and a bit cunning. I always thought it funny that Percy Weasley managed to get 12 (the most you can get) OWLs when Hermione, our 'brightest witch of her age,' needed a Time-Turner to get 11. But Dumby had his reasons for letting her have it and Mr. Latimer is thrilled with her use. Go figure? Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
I really enjoyed this meaty chapter. So much information to think about.I do wonder, as some of your other reviewers have expressed, why Dumbledore would ask such acusitory questions about young Severus' treatment of Hermione. Has he used Legillimens on older Snape or viewed some memories in the Pensieve that we don't know about yet? Perhaps Dumbledore is merely concerned that Severus would treat her unkindly as he appears to in the current time. But your dialog shows that he does care, he just can't show it in the normal way, for her own safety.Great job.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. I have a feeling I'll be repeating this - Do you really think that Severus has expressed everything that went on while he was with Hermione in his past? or possibly keeping some things close to the vest? Professor Snape, while forthright in his report, didn't really divulge much (Except a few Freudian slips lol) And do keep in mind that in all 'appearances and actions' Professor Snape is curt, blunt, and derogratory towards her, but signs her detentions that are challenging not drudgery. He does care, but cannot show it. So yes, Dumbledore is suspecious.Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
Response from ClayPotter (Reviewer)
I have read some of the other comments and your detailed responses. I have to add that I remember having feelings for someone in high school, and I look back on those memories with fondness, as I'm sure Severus does about Hermione. But any desire I may have had back then has long ago faded. I'm sure I would enjoy the person's company if I saw therm now, but I would not be lusting after them in my heart. And I certainly would not if that person suddenly was a teenager again!I guess I'm trying to put Professor Snape's feelings for the still young Hermione in perspective for any reader who is concerned about what might be in his adult mind and heart. He has had years to put things into perspective and move on... no matter how serious the feelings of his teenage self may have been. Personally, I never questioned his motives in your story. I think you are writing a wonderful tale and I will be anxious to see how it continues to unfold.
Great chapter. I find myself wondering what Dumbledore is planning.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Dumbledore is planning what he always is - His greater good!! and that Harry defeat Voldemort at any cost. Clear enough?"A man who has nothing to fear and nothing to live for is the most deadly and dangerous person on earth - and the most effective weapon in battle." (quoted from my dad)
He got his lab partner back through detention? He's being sneaky. I am seriously hoping for a happy ending.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Hello, Slytherin! cunning. Head of Slytherin! lol Hmmm don't know that I want to give anything away, yet.Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Oh, I know, that was very very Slytherin. But once he smiled about the brewing, she probably knew it. Don't worry, I'm patient enough to keep reading.
