Severus Snape’s life was changed when he was hit by an errant spell, and he comes to a decision that defies Dumbledore’s wishes. Even the fate of the wizarding world is altered by this one ill-cast curse and Snape’s subsequent resolve. Long after the spell itself has dissipated, its effects continue echoing in the lives of Severus, Albus, Minerva, and Hermione, and they bring with them a shadowy figure whom Snape does not trust and whose motivations and influence on Minerva are murky. Conspiracies and schemes swirl around Severus as he continues on his path of deception to his final confrontation with the Dark Lord.

Bwahahaha! I was, for some reason, expecting a new type of medal to be named after Snape, but that works just as well if not better. YAY!

Thanks. I'm glad you liked the award!

Poor Severus. The shock. I figured out what Harry was taking back right before Harry figured it out. I was slightly confused last chapter, but I quickly became distracted
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Lots of shocks for Severus in just a few days, and that final one was a doozy!Harry didn't do too badly at evading, considering! LOL! He almost let the cat out of the bag -- or should it be the phoenix? haha -- but he corrected at the last second. Thanks for reviewing!

Very exciting, forgive me my brevity, I must get to the next chapter. Far too many unresolved wounded right now.

Hi! Glad you found it exciting -- and I understand wanting to move on to find out who lived, died, etc! Thanks! :-)

I knew you were up to something with the last chapter, although I still don't understand how the vow got circumvented. I love the random Hermione-thinks-Kinsley-is-sexy line got thrown in there. No matter how serious the situation or how mature she is, she's still got that bit of teenage girl roaming around inside of her. it's nice to be reminded sometimes.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
The circumvention works exactly the same as was outlined in chap 11, "Break in the sun," with the only difference being the one that Minerva threw in.Yeah, I thought that was a nice little stream-of-consciousness bit there with Kingsley. ;-) Hermione may be in the thick of the war, in a sense, and taking on a lot of responsibility, but she's still a teenage girl, as you say! Thanks for reviewing!

What a wonderful story and I really liked the ending. I'm not surprised that Severus feels out of sorts, his life has really changed and he will have to reinvent himself. I think in time he will find his way.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the way the story ended. Severus has set off on a new journey, and he will, as you say, have to reinvent himself.

This is a good place to pause, although like many I would really not like to see it end. But because I would not want to be the cause our Severus additional suffering (because healing does involve some suffering until the wound completely knits) this is a good place to pause. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for all your reviews! I've really appreciated them. They have been very encouraging.
I'm glad you liked the epilogue! And you're right about healing and suffering . . .

Excellent chapter! I adored all the background information Poppy gave. It reminded me of my gran's neighbors back in the day...drinking coffee and chatting about their families. This made the chapter so much more real for me.

Thank you! I remember when I was a kid and visited older family, I'd love to just sit in a corner and listen to them talk.
Glad you enjoyed it!

What a wonderful story of forgiveness and redemption! I particularly enjoyed Garath's attempts to befriend Severus. Your "almost" romantic interludes with Hermione and Serverus were very sweet. I will watch for a sequel.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Thanks.

Oh, and I still haven't quite decided what to do with the sequel. I'll likely not decide that until I've finished it. It's up to about . . . maybe 375 now? Anyway, keep an eye out here and/or on my LJ to see news of it.(Now off to find some cold medicine . . . and another box of kleenex tissues.)

And that should be "375 pages" -- my brain isn't working very well at the moment.

very nice work - I love it when an author is confident enough in their work to end it with the story's tempo stop, and not continue unnecessarily on until everyone has had babies and their grandchildren are lining up for the Hogwart's Express!!! Thanks for your hard work and here are wishes for your continued inspirations!

I was going to leave this review at the end of a previous chapter, but I got too caught up in the story and wanted to get to the next chapter. I'm beginning to think that at the time of Albus' death Minerva transferred his soul to a body Transfigured to look like Robbie. Robbie seems to know an awful lot about Severus and seems to be fond of him.

Once again an outstanding chapter. It answered a lot of the questions I had. So happy that the main characters all survived. Loved the scene between Gertrude and Severus. I don't think the story would have felt complete to me without it. Gertrude might be a Slytherin who was almost sorted into Hufflepuff but she acted like a Gryffindor. Glad to see Quin back to his old self. Love the idea that Albus and Minerva can "go public" now. What a relief for them. Thank you.

I'm glad you liked the way the various bits were tied up in this chapter, and that you liked the scene between Severus and Gertrude. I thought that was important, too. Thanks for reviewing!

LOL, okay, this just HAS to be said, during Albus' talk with Severus about how he "died," especially the part about dead-but-revivable, it kept making me think of the movie The Princess Bride, lol. It makes me think of the scene with Fesic when he tells the masked man moving his head is wonderful because he has been "mostly dead all day." LOL! *Clears throat* sorry, had to go to that tangent, dear.*Sniff, sniff* Okay, now you have me crying but it is a good thing. Severus' reaction is powerful, and I think you conveyed how foreign these feelings are for him. It is so well balanced, I thought he might be super angry, but this plays better along what he was introduced to with the Adfectus. His anger being more elevated than his happiness at seeing Albus alive fits well with his character and makes sense to me. I was a bit surprised that Albus discussed some of his and Minerva's personal issues with Severus though, but it was good to help him understand everything. In the long run it may help him forgive Albus a little sooner than he would, if at all, normally.God Bless Poppy and Hermione, if anyone can help Severus understand everything , it is them. But I fear he may step on a few toes or hearts along the way. He is a stubborn one.Next, you brought in Gareth, I do really like him. Not the same way I like Quin, but he has grown on me. I was really hoping Severus might confide in him a little more. And then, of course, Severus being Severus, demanded he get out, lol.The break-away to Albus and Minerva discussing their relationship was a nice touch and brought a smile to my lips. The last bit even made me laugh out loud: Minerva smiled broadly. “I may miss our clandestine meetings, though.”“Whoever said we had to stop those?” Albus replied with a grin as he pulled her down into his lap. BRAVO! SSSQQQUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! Quin is all better???!!! How AWESOME is that?????????? My dear lady, I could kiss you! *Clears throat* sorry about that.I knew when Severus had that reaction at the feast that it had to be Gertie coming in. Later, when Gareth escorted her to Severus' rooms I figure it was her way of showing him her feelings were perhaps the same as Gareth's or a bit like them anyway. Her trembling showed her struggle with it still though. I wish I could hug her. But really, I imagine such a thing as what happened between them would be (insert word that is harder than difficult here) for them both. For Severus because he is ashamed of what he did to her and others in the past and for Gertie, because she realizes he may have changed but she can't bring herself to forgive what happened in the past. So many times during this chapter I felt a bit like Severus. I am torn about everything. I am happy Albus is alive but sad that Severus is angry and I can understand how he feels. Sheesh! You are the Queen! And that last bit, Hermione can't find her parents??? That is odd. I am now looking forward to the epilogue to see where this all ends up.,Stef =o)

Awww! What a wonderful "squee"! I've never had such a squee before! I had to laugh, blush, and get the warm fuzzies all at once. I'm very glad I could make you happy! That's so funny about The Princess Bride! I love that movie, but I hadn't thought of that scene in conjunction with this. You're right: that is very funny!Albus hadn't entirely planned to tell Severus anything about his relationship with Minerva when he was Robbie, but he'd promised Minerva (and it was important to him, as well), that he'd be as open as possible with Severus and answer all his questions. Severus asked about the relationship between him and Minerva, and so he answered it. He wants Severus to understand the situation as well as he can, considering he'd spent more than a year thinking that Robbie was Robert Crouch and had so much to process.Severus is stubborn. He also has a lot of habitual ways of behaving, and they were developed in different circumstances than the ones in which he finds himself now, and a lot of them aren't very healthy, even under the former circumstances. He had opened up to the idea of changing a little, though, but he had also believed that he would be dead by now. His decision to tell Hermione to address him by his first name and to tell her that he was grateful for her friendship was motivated by the fact that he thought he would die. Now he will hopefully realize that living more like that all of the time, even though it makes him vulnerable, is a good thing.I'm glad you like Gareth. I think that if Severus hadn't shut down and tossed him out, he would have been a good listener for Severus. Of course, Severus might not really know what to say yet.Gertrude still has a bit of fear -- viscera and subconscious fear -- associated with Severus even if intellectually she can feel "free" to be in his presence, if you know what I mean. Kind of like someone who's had a frightening escape from a fire surrounding them and has an autonomic reaction to the scent of smoke or the sight of large flames. You can force yourself to face it and act in contradiction to what your body is telling you to do, but the first few times is hard. So even if she's forgiven him, and even if she knows she has no reason to fear him and he would do nothing to her, she might still feel a sense of anxiety or fear when she sees him, particularly close-up.I'm glad you had a laugh about the clandestine meetings! Yes, Hermione doesn't know where her parents are. That's the trouble with messing with people's memories and not being able to keep an eye on them or contact them. Hee! Thank you again for the gigantic squee! It made me smile!Hugs & hearts to you, too!

Whew! Okay, I am super excited, because as soon as I review this I get to read the last chapter you posted. I have been punishing myself for not reviewing sooner by withholding that last one. (& no, I am not a house-elf, lol)When Alastor emerged from his meeting with Albus, I admit I was a bit curious as to what might have exchanged between them. I was relieved when I found it had been about Severus. *Does happy dance* But I can see Poppy there, so terribly tired, and then spotting Severus' procession, it was a very poignant moment.I also thought Albus' reaction to Minerva's accident was very realistic. The poor dear, it made me just want to hug him to pieces and comfort him. When Poppy told Severus about his Slytherins and he welled up, I was misty too, aww. Lol, and Twiskett is definitely the right House-elf for Severus. It is neat to see the little touches between Hermione and Severus. Now I just hope it doesn't take them as long to reach an understanding about their feelings as it did Minerva and Albus, heh. I admit that ship is growing on me. And if it is from you, I know it will be well done.It is probably in Severus' best interest that everyone is keeping the details about the battle, and especially about Albus' survival from him. I can only imagine what his reaction is going to be. Lol, I got a right giggle out of Hermione shouting in order to let Albus know Severus was outside the curtain when he went to see Gareth. I can just see the look on his face, lol.I see that Gareth is Gareth, that is encouraging. I was also worried about Gertie. When he mentions she has been sent to St. Mungo's it was reassuring. I hope she will be alright.LOL, I love this statement, "The snake bit my arm, not my stomach.” Poor Severus, forced to eat "baby food," I really hate when they do that to you in the hospital. And here I would have to agree with Severus, that was a little Slytherin of Poppy to withhold a better alternative from him so he couldn't push further, lol.And now, Minerva is going to tell Severus about Albus! This is so interesting how you are telling the story but twisting it so we don't know too much. I am dying to know how this all worked out. And now I am wondering exactly what the Adsumo entails.I saw that you listed the spells on your LJ but I didn't read it yet because I didn't want to reveal too much. I am enjoying the mysteriousness of it all. But, you have created a wonderful and windy trail to follow, I love it!Cheers,Stef

It was extra fat spaghetti, already cold, with tomato puree poured over it. Only tomato puree. No herbs or spices, let alone any other ingredients. It was completely inedible. *shudder*Glad you enjoyed the chapter! Many thanks for the review! As promised...Poor Severus, mad/sad/glad/scared all at once, and trying to accept that through it all, Albus (and Minerva, and others) love him. He needs a brain & body holiday! Perhaps he can go with Hermione to Australia to help her find the 'rents? What a heart-stopping (REALLY) scene of faking Albus' death. Well, not faking-faking but still...confusing now. Even though I was pretty certain it would turn out well in the end, that was truly wrenching in the Cinema-scope of my mind! No wonder Robert couldn't stand. Now that I think on it, Albus and Minerva need another HwTH (please? I will beg if I have to )How awesome that Minerva wants to bring her decades-long marriage to Albus-darling out of the closet, so to speak? I love that idea very much, especially given his post now as an ordinary teacher and staff member! Clandestine affairs, indeed.Quin and Gertie appearing at the feast had me in sniffles, but they were really good ones, of course. The brief conversation between Gertie and Severus spoke more than a thousand pages. Awesome. Her compliment of his guidance of their Slytherin students packs more punch than even he probably realizes right now!Yay, yay, yay! Oh, and, as always CFP

"Poor Severus" is almost the mantra of this story, isn't it? And you're right: Poor Severus!I think that at the moment, though he would do anything that Hermione might ask of him to help her, he's still too shell-shocked to do anything himself. He does need purpose, though, and productivity, so helping Hermione in Australia might help him . . . unfortunately, she doesn't ask him to go, and he also still has some time he needs to be at Hogwarts -- though Minerva would, of course, let him go to Australia if that was an option. She doesn't want to see him go and sink into isolation and depression at Spinner's End. She's worried about him.He does need a holiday, though. We'll see if he gets one!I'm glad you found the scene with Albus's near-death so suspenseful, despite being pretty sure of the outcome. Oh, it was Albus who couldn't stand -- Melina was asking Robert to bring Albus to the warded rooms. Albus had gone through something of an ordeal. But then, so had the other three people in the room! Minerva must have collapsed from seven kinds of exhaustion that night after she was out of the public eye.Glad you liked the Quin and Gertie bits. And you know Gertie, so you know how much she was saying with those words.CFR!

Wow, my third review this week! I must be on a roll.Let me just say that I really love Dobby in this chapter, lol. I can see him guarding Harry like a bulldog. I think you have his speech spot-on, too. This comment from Harry to Harper: “I think Professor Snape’s too tough to kill, don’t you? But if he is dead, then he died the greatest Slytherin hero in all of history, and he was your Head of House. Just think of that.” gave me chills. *sniff* I think it is good that Harry showed his support in that way and eased the younger boy's tension, it showed that he did some growing over the year.OMG, when Harry goes out to meet with the toe-rag and then Ginny gets out, I was holding my breath, lol. It took me a moment to realize I was doing that too. I loved that Gareth knocked old Voldie on his arse!!BooYuuh! That is quite some battle sequence, my dear!! I think you have done an outstanding job! It was so sad that Molly had to die, though. But I do realize that not everyone can live. (:whispers: But my favs still live, right?) Oh, yeah! I have to squeeeee for Gertie!!! I hope she gives them hell!I really liked it when you switched the POV to Gareth. I found it invigorating and neat. LOL, and the language too. It was great to see how everyone was involved , I can imagine this took you some time, that is a lot of description going on, but I loved it. I giggled at Peeves flying along-side the dragon, and the bagpipes and drums were a very nice touch! This was a breath-taking chapter (literally). I hope that Gareth and Minerva are okay as well as a number of others who went down. Woo!You didn't get your nickname from me for nothing, lol!As always, you are still... 'DA BOMBE!'Cheers, (&*hugs*)Stef =o)

Hey, you are on a roll! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. You're right, it did take me some time. It was quite a long effort. Thanks for noticing Harry's comment to Harper. Harry has grown a lot in the last year, and he's learned to look beyond himself more and to relate to others' feelings more, as well He always had that potential, but his strange childhood combined with the fact that he was an adolescent didn't always have him looking outside himself.I'm relieved you started to breathe again! LOL But I'm also happy you found it breath-taking. I chose to show the battle through Gareth's p.o.v. for a number of reasons, and I'm really glad you found it worked.haha! I liked the image of Peeves flying along side the dragon fun, too! Thanks much for the review! I really appreciate it! (And I'm blushing!)*hugs* back!

LOL, asking Hermione not to ask questions is like taking a fish out of water, the poor thing. I am glad they told her, though. Of course, they probably needed to.Your description of the Celebrare is sooo cool. I was worried for a bit there that Albus would be angry and stubborn. But I see that he has a rough time denying Minerva. =o)LOL @ Philomena! She is a tough old bird. Bravo!I also caught myself laughing at Mafalda Hopkirk.Poor Hermione and Albus, having to stand there and watch all that. How horrible! I couldn't imagine having to stand there and watch someone killing someone I cared about so slowly and doing nothing.I found all the angles of your story intriguing. I love the parallels to that other story, and yours are just so much cooler.Cheers,Stef
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, Hermione probably had to sit on her hands and bite her tongue!Glad you liked the Celebrare! All that research Minerva did for the Adfectus back in September for Severus certainly paid off, even if she didn't find a cure for the Adfectus except the one that they used.I'm glad you found the levity in Mafalda Hopkirk & her concern for protocol and her filing system! When dealing with other serious subjects, it's nice to throw in a little lightness now and then, I think. And Albus's old friend Philomena didn't grow less feisty over the years, did she? Tough old bird, indeed! Don't underestimate old witches!Albus and Hermione certainly did have a terrible time of it, having to witness what they did. But they were able to catch their moment and leap into action right away. I'm sure that Hermione's adrenalin helped her swing that sword!*blush* I'm glad you find my story angles cooler. *blush again*Thanks muchly for the reviews! It made my morning to see them waiting for me! TTFN!

Alright, so I have decided I will be a very good fangurl and review each chapter I have already read properly before I beg. LOL!During the first part of this chapter I worried that the Dark Lord had another spy in the Order. I do admit, Riddle makes me angry, the way he talks about Minerva. Grrr. "They all crave an iron hand." Riiiight, keep deluding yourself, toe-rag! And hooray for no Crucio for Severus this time around.Sniff, I felt so bad for Severus when he was reflecting on his "two" masters. Then, Minerva's habit snuck in, tee hee. This chapter just gets better and better with each paragraph. I can't believe what Tom did to the body and the crypt, shudder. I also loved the moment Severus and Hermione shared in the library. That ship is still growing on me.Also, the part where Robbie was taking pills and changing patches was very interesting. But then, I know what I think, heh, heh. Poor Poppy! LOL!At the end, when Severus was defying Tom, I just wanted to jump out of my chair and route for him. Poor Severus, thinking Death looks like Albus. On to the next chapter!!Cheers!Stef =o)

Hi, Stef! Reviewing before begging is always a nice thing! Riddle really is a madman, isn't he?Yes, Robbie's medications are interesting . . . and "poor Poppy" is right! Good thing she has a strong heart! LOLSeverus did his best to go down fighting and defiant despite his resignation, and not like a lamb to slaughter. I'm glad you were cheering him on!Thanks for reviewing!

A superlative chapter. All of Severus's reactions are most understandable. Wondering if he was the only dupe who didn't figure it out, especially. The scene where Minerva kills Albus, and his resuscitation, Albus talking about the nest....kleenex time even on the 3rd read-through.Albus talking about Hermione being what held him back, and barely being able to talk about the climax in the Shack...hopefully Severus saw how moved he was, and will remember that and it will hope to temper his anger over time.I find it amazing that A & M never thought through 'their domestic situation' in advance. That is perhaps the most out of character thing. Not that you've made them OOC, but that the stress of the situation did.Severus sobbing on Albus's arm...vey moving and telling.Hermione is extremely wise and perceptive in her dealings w/ Severus!'Why doesn't MM just use a glamour to deal w/ her hair? Go MM! as far as moving Albus up the table! Great scene there! Including MM ending up on his lap! *That's* a good seating arrangement! ;-) Seriously, glad they will now be more open about their relationship. All sorts of re-birth going on here...life regnant indeed.Oh, Quin! [esoterica swoons!] [I hope that in any sequel Quin makes more than a token appearance!]Knowing taciturn Slytherin Gertrude from before....her visit to Severus was huge, and her words said more than a dozen flowery speeches. And surely Slytherin Severus realized it too. Another great scene in a chapter of so many!(It's taken me so long to review this b/c every time I'd re-read it w/ the intent of reviewing, I'd end up going back and reading other chapters, or bits of RaM.)
Response from esoterica1693 (Reviewer)
Two other thoughts that occured to me when thinking of the scene where Quin enters (after I recovered from my swoon)....a) hopefully Severus will come to understand how true genuine non-possessive love works....he's grasped glimmers of it before, in realizing that he never feels lessened by Minerva's assistance, and in his interactions w/ Albus and Hermione, but his rx to seeing Quin and Minerva and how he thought Albus would react shows he still has a long way to go.b) if Quin hadn't been incapacitated, he would have been a good candidate for someone for Albus to "become." Known and yet unknown, and the people who knew him well in the Hogwarts arena could have been made to keep silent. He could have easily taught something, and his 'affair' w/ Minerva would have even much more believable and explainable--it's very believable to anyone who knows their history that Albus would have wished Minerva to be w/ Quin after his death, and the two always had chemistry. And blue-eyed, handsome charismatic Albus could have impersonated him fairly easily, and I bet had lots more fun doing so...as much as he loved Robert, and loved being not-Albus, "Robbie" was almost 180 deg different in personality. (Though admittedly that made it less likely that someone would have thought he was really Albus--only Hermione and Filius seemed to have sensed his Albus-ness underneath, and only Filius got its significance.) But anyway, in an alternate-alternate universe, I could see Albus becoming "Quin" quite easily! Of course he would have needed to be very strict on quality control at his sweets factory--personally sampled lots of stuff! Totally drivelous and OT, but an amusing alternative, IMO!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Yes, A & M were so focussed on the larger issues involved, and Minerva stressed by the possibility of killing him, and then Albus by his declining health, it was something that didn't really occur to them. Albus thought he'd use his new freedom as not-Albus to be around her more and more openly display his affection for her, but Minerva found it difficult to adjust to. Minerva thinks it would show undue vanity to use a Glamour, particularly when it's only her hair that's affected and others have scars, lost or injured limbs, and so forth. She does have a bit of vanity, but she finds giving in to her vanity more uncomfortable than not giving into it. I'm glad the scene with Albus and Minerva during and after the resuscitation was moving for you.Esoterica swooning! Smelling salts, please! As far as his becoming Quin, he could have done that and had quite a good time, but in a way, it would have been harder for him, since the differences between their personalities aren't as extreme as between his and Robert's -- it would be too easy to slip back into being himself -- of course, people probably would have found it more credible, particularly any who might be aware that Minerva and Quin had a little bit of a thing way-back-when (though that would have been few people, that information could have been spread, innocently, by people like Poppy when trying to explain the relationship). I think that although it might have been easier on some level for Minerva, on another level, it might have been harder, since she might feel torn about her purely physical attraction for the Quin replica -- even knowing it's Albus, and that she's not betraying him, it could still be uncomfortable for her, and she might worry that Albus thinks she's more attracted to Quin than she is, especially as he's younger, etc. Although the substitution might have been believable and easily done on several levels, it's probably just as well it was Robert. Besides, Robbie could easily stay relatively aloof from the rest of the faculty without it raising suspicions, but Albus-as-Quin couldn't have without it appearing odd, which would leave many more opportunities for people to realise that Quin wasn't who he appeared to be (particularly if he suddenly displayed ignorance of something he should have known -- some interaction with someone many years in the past that he should have "remembered" but didn't). Also, Albus-as-Quin couldn't take the DADA position without people being curious as to how he managed to avoid the curse, since Quin taught DADA one year back in the sixties.I'm sure that Severus has thought about and puzzled over Gertrude's visit and what her meanings were, for certainly there were many. You're right about Severus and his experience of love, and his understanding of nonpossessive love. I'm sure he'll make progress once he gets going and isn't still so stunned about living, his life, no Dark Lord, having friends -- more than one -- and all that.

Sorry -- forgot to say thanks for the thoughtful review! (I have a peculiar fall cold -- nothing too terrible, but I'll use that as my excuse for being slightly absent-minded!)
Response from esoterica1693 (Reviewer)
Well, since they didn't know Quin could be cured until well into the Plan, it never was a real option, but it was fun to think about! In addition to all the Merlins that will be given out, Albus deserves the wizarding equiv of an Oscar for being Robbie for so long. Minerva too. It was probably even harder for her in a way b/c she was much less used to dissembling than Albus was, since he'd had to pull off lots of deceptions over the course of his life, whether or not he enjoyed doing so. And while neither of them would ordinarily be thrilled to be thought to be having an adulterous affair and for MM to have 'forgotten' Albus so quickly, it was surely much much harder for Minerva to pull off that part of the deception. "Robbie" just had to act out of character in mannerisms; Minerva had to act out of character in some more fundamental ways. No wonder she wants to be 'out of the closet' WRT their marriage now--she is probably sick and tired to her very core of 'acting' or misdirecting others in any part of her life and will be for quite a while. She definitely needs a nice long vacation on some secluded island--and maybe one w/ palm trees rather than the usual one! And yes, Albus you did act like a love sick puppy dog! :-)

A great chapter once again! All the reactions Severus had to all the revelations and the people and... it was just wonderfully done, so realistic. I can quite believe how much learning about Albus and the deception hurt him, even if he understands that it was necessary. And seeing Gamp again... all things considered, that went extremely well, although I can only imagine how very difficult it must have been for both of them. And I do trust that the awards ceremony won't be the last time Severus and Hermione see each other.

I'm ever so thankful for your long chapters, but I'm still on pins and needles about how it's all going to come out for Severus and Hermione. I'm really hoping something nice will happen at the awards dinner. The conversations between the different people and Severus were neat. I think his reactions to Dumbledore were very much in character.

What a treat to see Quin back and in fine form. Poppy certainly seemed to think so, too.A standing ovation for Gertie. What she did outdid any Gryffindor in the courage department. I would say that Severus is a prime candidate for therapy. Talk about a cauldron full of mixed feelings and conflicts about his own past, the fact that he lived when he expected to die, and his feelings about Albus and the deception. Accepting at an intellectual level that he had to be kept from knowing that Albus was alive is one thing. Accepting it at an emotional level is another.
Thank you for giving us the missing scene that fulfills the prophecy.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Glad you enjoyed seeing Quin again. That was hard for Gertrude, but she thought it was important for both herself and for Severus. Severus certainly is a prime candidate for therapy, as you say, but he's also one of the least likely people to seek it. He might find himself pushed in a therapeutic direction, though. I'm glad you liked seeing that scene. It's one that I'd thought to put in earlier, before Hermione had the big reveal (only up through the point where Minerva casts the spell to revive Albus, creating a bit of a cliffie). Thanks for the review!

Hmmm. So this begs the question . . . did Albus-as-Robbie and Minerva stage the library scene for the purpose of getting under Severus' skin?
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
No. Minerva would have been utterly mortified, and neither of them are into performing for an audience. They had no idea that he was there. If you recall, in AAoL, Minerva was really upset about the mirror incident. And there was no intention for either of them to get under his skin -- that was in his mind. Minerva only intended to try to be realistically cool toward him following the incident on Boxing Day, just as Severus himself expected. It would not be in keeping with Albus's & Minerva's characters either to deliberately hurt him, beyond Minerva distancing herself, nor to have an intimate encounter in front of him or anyone else.
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
So . . . was Minerva having sex with ROBBIE, or with ALBUS in the library? And if it was Robbie, how does she justify that?
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
I thought that you understood that Robbie was Albus. She was having sex with Robbie, and Robbie was Albus. Maybe when you read the next chapter, it will become clearer that Robbie was Albus, and that Robert hadn't been in the castle since the previous March, just after Albus kind-of-died, and this was more than nine months after that.
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
It looked to Severus, and thus the reader, like she was having sex with Robbie. Particularly after Robbie was pressuring her and refusing to take no for an answer, and she was crying — she never consented, repeatedly refused, and he did it anyway. Some people call that rape. The tears and asking for someone else who is apparently not there certainly add credence to that.So if she wasn't having sex with Robbie, Albus wasn't raping her, and they weren't doing it specifically to get under Severus' skil . . . why did she consent to have sex at all when she clearly wasn't interested, why the tears, and why in the library?
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
The scene was deliberately written from Severus's POV because at that point in the story, the reader still was unaware of Minerva's plan, etc. Many readers guessed on the basis of that scene that Robbie was really Albus. Others who didn't guess that and who erroneously assume that Severus has the "correct" interpretation of events (though I'd think it'd be fairly obvious that he can't and doesn't), bought into his interpretation. Others who didn't guess that Robbie was Albus but who didn't think that Severus was an infallible witness still had one of the first clues that all was not as it seemed with Robbie. It wasn't rape. It wasn't nonconsensual. She was crying because of the stress she was under. She was interested, obviously, or she wouldn't have had sex. As for the library, why not? It's no different from some of the other places they've made love. She did consent, she expressed some discomfort at the location, etc., but she fully consented. As I've said before, if it were described from her point of view, it would appear much different. As I said, you might be less confused if you read the next chapter.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Death's Dominion)
Oh, and as I said, it WAS Robbie. Robbie was Albus. If Severus had seen Albus, it would have made no sense at all -- or Severus would have been tipped off, and shocked for an entirely different reason.Robbie=Albus-using-PolyjuiceRobert was not there. It would have been really stupid of Albus and Minerva to have Robert running around the castle at the same time that Robbie was. In this chapter, she even TOLD Severus that Robbie was not who he appeared to be.
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
Oh, well, her crying "I miss my Albus" really threw me.
