Victory did not make life perfect, and two years on, the shock of surviving the war is finally starting to wear off. Waking to everyday realities, Hermione and Severus discover the delights and pains of living - all prompted by a ladder. HG/SS eventually, but HG/RW and SS/NT for the first bit. Multiple award winner.

I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Reviews for Ladder
Very nice.
It's been six months. Thoughts of Ron don't seem to be distracting her much, do they?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it. Ron doesn't seem to exactly be a highlight of her life these days, no. (grins)
An excellent transition to the next act. He's being very, very patient. He's engaged her mind - a smart move on his part. I love how deliberate he's being. Such a Slytherin - I love it!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you find him in character and enjoy watching his slow seduction of her on many levels! A true Slytherin knows how to bide his/her time!
A great chapter--though I like the style of seeing each incident (or rung, as you've called them) from first one point of view and then the other, I really enjoy the "half steps" as well. Looking forward to act three, where hopefully Ron gets dumped. Maybe in front of all his family and friends, see how he likes being put on the spot! ;)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you like the format of the main chapters - we'll be back to them soon!
I can't wait to see what he has in store...great story so far!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the story! Next chapter soon.
Severus... truly slytherin from front to back. Every move is calculated and meant to achieve his ends. But will she follow up to that point? Hmm...Cool chapter, looking forward to the next. Cheers!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you like his calculating ways and find them in character. As for HG - keep reading! More soon.
Goodness, he's getting wily. OK, a little trepidation here: If she was ever to realize he was not primarily interested in her research skills ... she wouldn't exactly be overjoyed, would she?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Glad you like his wiliness. Ah, but who said he wasn't interested in her mind?
Wonderful! I love the back and forth that you create in these half step chapters. I can feel him sucking her in, he is a wicked temptation, just like chocolate eclairs!Lovely work as always! Can't wait to find out where you have decided to take these two.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! This was a fun chapter to write - I think I'm going to have to do a fic or two in this format.
Glad you liked it since you have to read it twice!
Boy, is he patient. All the way from the end of September to the end of March! It's like he's cultivating her, teasing her the way he did on the ladder, that first day. Six months of foreplay. Wicked man.
Where Ron, during all this time? Have he and Hermione set a date? I have not forgotten about that, yanno.
Each chapter is like chocolate to us, I hope you know that!Response from Keladry Lupin (Reviewer)
In addition, I agree with what Elisabeth said. It's going to really hurt, if/when Hermione finds out that this feigned interest in her mind and talents has all been a ruse, just so he can get into her knickers.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Nice observation on the ladder incident and this - thanks for pointing it out.
Ron's the person with whom she spends unmemorable weekends, as in chapter 7.
Who said he's not interested in her mind? (grins)
nice transitional chapter, no smut, but plenty of suttle(sp) sexual tension, please update soon.
Response from wilder0511 (Reviewer)
subtle, hah it finally came to me. I hate it when you know something is spelled horribly wrong but the correct way just refuses to surface in your brain at that moment. I was going to say the updates are like chocolate to us reviewers, I left it out and saw someone else read my mind anyway.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! UST - who would have guessed it? (grins)
I can't spell, so don't worry! I long ago realized that spelling does not indicate intelligence.
Enjoyed the chapter and the interjected thoughts--I do prefer to have this type of a chapter all together like you did (his/hers). She's evaded him for two months??!!!!!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Sorry that for this fic, this may be the only chpater structured this way, but I like it and may use it in the future.
More like 7 months since the kiss!
I almost like this tension, relationship building stage better than their normal steps up the ladder. Don't get me wrong though I definately want more of their he said she said intrigue. Look forward to the next update.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. You're exactly right - this is part of what it takes to have a relationship instead of just lust!
A great chapter as usual - looking forward to more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it. The next chapter is already in the queue!
:SIGH:
Ah yes, I didn't think it would be too long before Rational!Severus reasserted himself. Of course, once he has a plan, Hermione is completely lost.
:rubs hands:
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Yep - he is going to formulate a new plan of attack, but don't give up on HG - she's quite intelligent!
A proposal!!! :-)Oh my... Is Sev in the room??? no, probably not.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Nope - no Severus in the room. I suppose Ron doesn't consider him a close friend - snicker - if he only knew!
This was a really hot chapter. Nevertheless, I'm a bit torn when it comes to Snape. On the one hand, I want to tell Hermione to just grab him, and on the other hand, I'm tempted to tell her to run.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter and found it sexy. You're right about SS - he's sexy but can there be anything else with hiim the way he is?
*fans self, gets back up in order to review*Well...what are you waiting for?! I need to see more chapters! Can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter so much that it knocked you over! More soon.
Wow, you do some hot writing (wipes brow) nothing like sexual tention to give a reader shivers. I've been enjoying this story and look forward to some sneaky slytherin activity.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you're enjoying the story and the UST. Thanks for the comment on my writing - I'm never quite certain it's sexy, so it's good to hear!
Absolutely wonderful. I hope Snape goes for gold. It's so true how one person can just do it for you. I hope he doesn't give up on HG. Poor HG, what is she going to do about Ron? Amazing make out session between the two.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Don't worry - he's not giving up, but he does realize this approach isn't working. I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the snog!
Hmm. Predatory, possessive, and oh, right, hot as hell. Love it. Like Keladry_Lupin, though, I'm worried for Hermione. She's got to feel rather like the tie on the rope in a tug of war, not that Ron knows there's a war on.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. As for what happens to HG - she will be the one in control of her future.
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
Oh, I imagine she will. Just at the moment, well, it seems sort of like the inverse of The Day of the Troll. She appears to be somewhat lacking in people to turn to, but not because she's a "nightmare," just that it appears her options are the Weasleys, Tonks, or her now-fellow professors, none of whom appear likely candidates for her confidence in this. On the flip side, it's not that nobody wants her, it's that there are two who do. The fleeing to deal with the overwhelming-ness of it all, though, is pretty similar. Just random thoughts. Thinking about Hermione's feelings in this is just way more interesting than thinking about the psych test I ought to be taking right now. I probably should've saved reading this chapter for "dessert." My new academic motto should be "what would Hermione do?"
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
She is somewhat isolated having lost HP and having RW turn into the boyfriend. Nonetheless, she does have more of a life than this story is showing. Because I've so tightly focused the scenes, there's lots of time for things off-stage.
Eeeeeeeeee! ^_^ I love it how you give us both POV's on each encounter ^_^You know when Snape thought >The smell of her, the sound of her, the feel of her, the taste of her …I reminded me of a song > 10 years - Half life ( only at two little bits mind...) and it kind of goes with his situation *grins* Not the best of songs mind but some of the lyrics fit.Awsome update, cant wait for the next.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it and that the alternating POVs are working for you!
I'm afraid I don't know that song, but I agree that the line you quote does seem like lyrics! I get the feeling he almost chants it in his head.
More soon.
*laughing* What a treat!!!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! (grins)
God I wish I was Hermoine...good-bye Ron, HELLO SEVERUS
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! The decision seems clear to most of us (grins). I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
This series is so sexy, and so addicting. I can't wait for the next chapter
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the story and find it sexy. More soon!
Too bad at the first of this chapter she couldn't realize how much he was controlling his responses (disgust of himself rather than her). Never fear, he definitely made his intentions known. Poor Snape, left all confused, frustrated and determined . . .
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Part of the whole trouble communicating thing - I'm glad it came through for you, though. Poor SS, but as you say he is determined, and a determined Severus is a powerful thing.
Well, talk about ruining a mood!!!!! (not sure how I missed this chapter, or if two where posted at onec--oh well).
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! This one was posted last week, but electronic stuff happens. Yep, her conscience reared its head!
Response from Myst (Reviewer)
wow, look at all the typos I made . . .
