I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Reviews for Ladder
Love Snape's swift response, pure adrenaline, I guess he'll use the subtler Slytherin tactics later.Hehe about Brownian motion, I still can't believe I chose that as a paper topic in HS.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! You're being clever again - just wait for the end of the next chapter!
Glad you like the science metaphor a(although I can't imagine writing an entire paper about it!).
Response from wsanders (Reviewer)
I picked the topic without thinking about it too much, and by the time I realized what a mistake it was I was stuck with the topic. It was a learning experience.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
He, he, he. I can imagine it now: Gas molecules move randomly. The higher the temperature, the faster they move. Collisions with other molecules and objecs can change their trajectory. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
MAN, this just gets better and better (and I asked for longer chapters...I think now I see why they are shorter, much more for us to contemplate). Thanks
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad I'm winning you over to the shorter chapters! Thanks for letting me know that you like the way the story is progessing!
wow, I really enjoyed this chapter, look forward to his take.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it. The next will be up the first part of next week!
My neurons are in Brownian motion with this chapter ;)He didn't lose time to counter-attack, did he? He 's got ammunitions to tease her unmercifully.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Glad I added some heat then! He seems the type to have to force himself ot be patient - when he wants to, that is.
so what's gonna happen next??? this is fascinating...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you're finding is fascinating! Next chapter soon.
Hee! Someone just had a gallon of cold water tossed into his lap. I'm perversely delighted. And waiting anxiously for the next chapter. :)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! "Peversely delighted" is such a wonderful turn of phrase! I'm so glad you liked the chapter. The next one's already in queue!
Response from missblue (Reviewer)
:does happy-yet-anxious queue dance:
Such a teasing, smug bastard!! That's just the way I like him. Another excellent chapter!!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you like the chapter and this Severus. 'Smug' is going to end up as my one-word synopsis for him in these chapters!
You are so evil mentioning chocolate at the end of every chapter...I had to have a piece with every chapter!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Well, I love chocolate - esp extra dark, semi-sweet. So, thanks for leaving me some!
Mmm, chocolate eclair ... *licks chocolate off Snape's lip* ... good lord woman, but this is HOT! Also, your Snape is sexy and sardonic and wonderfully in-character, as well as your Hermione with her admirable but misplaced sense of duty. Hopefully Snape can seduce her out of it and into his bed post-haste. Keep writing, I wait with bated breath for the next installment!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! (now hand over my Severus - LOL) I'm glad you enjoyed it and find SS 'sexy and sardonic' - what a lovely way to put it! Thanks for the comment that they both seem in character! More by the end of the week.
I love his reaction when he hears about her being engaged. The poor man. ;)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I decided to have him lose some of his control and swear when he's really upset (even if it's only in his head), so I'm glad it worked for you!
Oh you know I like living the scene from both POVs its just that I want to know WHAT HAPPEN NEXT!!!How is Hermione going to get out of this pickle? Hows about you kill off Ron?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! (And thanks for reviewing all of the chapters you were catching up on - I love hearing responses to each.)
I'm glad the alternating POVs are working and that they keep you wanting more! (evil grin)
I must admit that I hadn't planned to kill Ron, but as for how - that I won't spoil.
I am with you and Minerva as a feminist. Although maybe Snape meant that she will soon quit to raise a pack of babies? Well either way it was insulting. Lets see what Hermione has to say...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Yes, I suppose he could also be worried that RW will turn her into a baby-making machine, which wouldn't fit her at all. (But I was actually thinking of the name change.)
Clearly I dont know how to bookmark a story properly because I see I missed a few chapters. I am an idiot. I thought it was quite touching that Severus asked to see the real Tonks. He did a good thing there. Perhaps this will help get on with her life instead of covering. hum...Now what about this engagement trap from the chapter before? EVIL
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! On the favorites thing (if that's what you're using), you have to go into your porfile and click on the box that says you want e-mails about updates.
I'm really glad you liked SS and NT here - so do I. I agree that she will be able to heal now. (love the evil bat!)
Amazing, marvellous, surprising - from the very (sensual) beginning, the alternating Him-Her-POV, the acting of the different charas, till this chap. It's really great fun to read first her thoughts, then his, or the other way round.
I was totally shocked when she said 'yes' to Ron's proposal, after all the considerations which were going through her mind shortly before.
I guess Severus is feeling the same shock now, particularly after her reactions (and his interpretations) to his ‘performance’ at the staff meeting.
What now?
You have me utterly hooked up.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you're enjoying the story. It almost sounds as if you're someone who has just discovered it - it's good to hear that it reads well going all the way through.
It's good to hear that the alternating 1st person POVs are working for you and that you like the characterizations.
I'm glad you're hooked - there's lots more to come, and I hope you enjoy it.
Lol. Love the clinched jaw! Going from being aware of her arousal to finding about the engagement! Priceless. My last review of this getting ugly--I'm sure there is going to be some sort of words about this whole thing--in private.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it and his clenched jaw - I try to bring in physical responses (when I remember to). "In private" - you're clever!
Wicked, Severus, Wicked....LOL
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! That he is - a manipulative Slytherin with a wicked tongue (oops - double entendre, but it's true, so I'll leave it!).
Wicked, wicked man! The UST was tangible in these last two chapters. Well, I'm glad that Hermione's engagement isn't making things easy for him. He seems to be taking it for granted, that she'd just fall into his bed at the snap of his fingers, and there doesn't seem to be any emotion behind his desire. (HMPH.) But give these two components time to simmer, and perhaps they will brew up something a bit more between the two of them, hmm? Wonderful as always!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I know I've said it before, but I love prolonged UST (look at how Moonlighting tanked when Dave and Maddy finallly got together). I suppose that's a warning. Nonetheless, I hope the journey will be fun! (goes off to stir slowly simmering cauldron)
The finger that was inside her!
OMG THAT WAS HOT! that line gave me the tingles!
Write more soon!!!
-KarlaMarie
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked that line - Severus whispered it into my head - I don't think I would have found it otherwise. If you reread her chapter, she doesn't pick up on this (how could she - she coudn't see what he was doing down there), but it means something to him.
Response from KMJ (Reviewer)
I did pick up on that after i already reviewed as at the time i was still overwhelmed by that line... damn its still got me fluttering lol
everytime i see that line i get naughty images inside my head! Damn Severus for whispering that in your ear!!! lol
Anywho update soon woman! (you are a woman I hope lol)
-KarlaMarie
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
[Yep - I'm a woman.] Naughty Severus! (grins) Glad the line had such impact!
I think you are doing a fantastic job here. I was looking at the WIkTT site this evening and some topics of conversation centered around reviews and criticism. I read a story and like it and I just have a hard time finding something negative about it. Oh well, maybe I just pick the good stories to read... But again, I love how you are telling this story.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Funny, there's been lots of talk of reviews lately. I think criticism is good when it's concrit focusing on characterization, pace, believability of dialogue, etc.
I'm really glad you like this story! I actually sit around and think lots of swotty thoughts about how I'm writing it - probably more than I should!
::offers you a chocolate éclair for yet another wonderful chappie:: Can't wait for more. :)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! (nibbles chocolate eclair daintly for 3 seconds and then takes a huge bite) I'm so glad you liked it! More by the end of the week.
I love how you include both Sev and Hermione's views in their own chapter. :)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad that you like the alternating POVs. I'm trying to keep it interesting even when events repeat, so thanks for the feedback!
Ouch. The contrast between his calculated seduction - and we can't just call it attempted seduction, really, because we already know from the previous chapter that it's working - and the smackdown of McGonagall announcing Hermione's engagement is painfully sharp. But it was working, so there's hope, right? Well, assuming these two can get their heads screwed on straight.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I guess I really like writing dramatic irony - by this point we know what's coming and we can see him dig a deeper hole of smugness before he falls in (laughs evily). I'm also taking a cue from Joss Whedon by trying to mix in some humor every once and a while.
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
I guess I really like writing dramatic irony
You do? I'd never have guessed. ::ducks::
::holds out eclair as peace offering::
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Hmm, what gave it away - the proposal scene?
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
If not sooner! LOL
I love your story, the only problem is the chapters are too short!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you like it! Well, if you're feeling swotty, I have an essay about the chapter format on my lj. Check it out and let me know what you think!
I haven't had a chance to review lately but you are doing a wonderful job. I can't wait for more.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I appreciate hearing from you whenever you're able. I'm glad you like the story. More soon!
excellent chapter, I had hoped for a more detailed description of ss reaction to the announcement, but am satisfied with the chapter nonetheless. Can't wait for more.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. There is more to come on his reaction next - it takes 6 chapters to make up each act of 'Ladder,' so there are 2 more for this act.
