Jumped on the Harry Potter bandwagon in 2000 (when Goblet of Fire was out in hardback). Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite in the series, followed by Order of the Phoenix. I read and write in the SS/HG corner of the Potterverse.
Reviews for Polyandry and Other Problems
I love how even though there are unresolved issues between Hermione, Severus, and Lucius, they can still tease each other at the wedding. Maybe the jealousy will resolve....unless there is a massive blowup courtesy of Snape because he's occluding his feelings. Best go to find out.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it. I couldn't resist having them teasing each other, much to Hermione's mortification.Occlumency definitely has its drawbacks...
Wow Snape's jealous. I guess I wouldn't expect otherwise, but you'd think it'd be lessened a bit since he and Lucius are friends. The other husband could be Ron, then there'd be all sorts of problems. Hopefully this jealousy resolves itself in a good way, so I'll keep reading to see what happens.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Severus does strike me as a possessive man - I'm glad his jealousy is expected. That Lucius is his friend probably makes it worse, as there's betrayal too.I hope you'll like the eventual resolution! Thanks for reviewing.
Ahh, don't leave us hanging there!!!!!! More!! Please?
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
I won't leave you hanging much longer! I'll be posting the next chapter soon. Thanks for reviewing!
Oh No! I want to kill Lucius! What an ass. And Severus, I hope he listens to her! They were so happy together! I hope he listens to her. Great job explaining In Vitro, sperm banks and surrogates too. Damn the Wizend-Amok. Thanks for the update. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Lucius certainly deserved the slap he got, although death is probably a bit too drastic... tempting, though!Hopefully he will...Thank you! I did my best, glad you liked it!
Oh, this is looking like real fun. Now if I can only discipline myself to get some work (you know, the kind they pay me to do) done before gobbling up all the chapters.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Good luck with that! I hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Thanks for reviewing!
OH NO!!!!!!
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thank you for reviewing!
I'm beginning to lose track a bit. Where does S's violent and sudden jealousy come from? After all, nothing happened really. He's acting like a dumb teenager who's seen to many B-movies. And doesn't Lucius have some rights, at least to be treated politely, to be given some benefit of doubt? He is her husband, he's invited them to live in his house, paying all the bills. Since he did not seem so bad in your first chapters (very vulnerable after N's death, starting to have a soft spot for H), plus the fact that he's definitely physically attractive, why should she be so much repulsed by him? Of course he resents that. How much more OOC (I mean within the framework of this story) are they going to be?
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Severus's jealousy has been an issue since Chapter 14, and within the story for about four months. The last one of those months he has been bottling up that jealousy inside in an attempt to maintain control. Hence the explosion at witnessing a mere kiss.As for Lucius, he agreed to a marriage in name only before they tied the knot. He married Hermione to benefit from her reputation. He has no 'right' to sleep with her. Come to that, Severus doesn't have the 'right' to sleep with her either. She chooses to do that.Hermione's not repulsed by Lucius. She simply does not love him.And OOC... I am doing my best to make these characters human. They make mistakes. For them to be perfect would be OOC.Thank you for reviewing.
Response from HannahSmith (Reviewer)
Well, I never said or implied that Lucius should have a right to sleep with Hermione (or with anyone else); no one has such 'rights'. But like I said before, I do think he does have a right to be treated at least politely and preferably a bit more nicely. And I still wonder: in the first few chapters you made him rather nice and quite attracted to Hermione, so why does she now seem to dislike him so much? Since they're stuck together in this marriage, can't they try to make it as comfortable as possible, and at least be friends? And I still think that Severus is acting very immaturely. Being jealous and angry (without good reason) is one thing, and may be human, but acting like a complete idiot is another thing entirely. I'd think twice after this behaviour of Severus, if I were Hermione. Makes it more difficult to identify with her. If Lucius hadn't kissed her, the elf might not have poisoned her; but if Severus had been more reasonable, he would have found her sooner or it might not have happened at all. So if anyone's to blame apart from the elf (but I think not), it's not just Lucius.Did you have a threesome in mind at the end? If so, they have a VERY long way to go yet. And if not, what's to become of Lucius? Is his situation going to improve? For it doesn´t seem quite fair for H and S being happy together, while he can only watch and be lonely.I don't mean to sound overly critical, just giving my opinion. It's not easy to write good, consistent plots and characters (and consistent obviously does not exclude human weakness and error), and honest comments can help - that could and should be one of the benefits of sites like this.
Response from HannahSmith (Reviewer)
And of course, if I didn't like the story at all, I'd just remove the bookmark and not take the trouble of writing lengthy reviews !
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Sorry, my mistake. I must have read more into your review than was written.Hermione doesn't so much dislike Lucius as dislike his actions sometimes. Other than those instances, she has been polite and as friendly as she can be without encouraging him.Lucius's history is against him with Severus: he's seduced women away from Severus before. Severus definitely did overreact and act like a prideful idiot, but what can I say? He's human, and male to boot. All of the characters definitely have quite a bit of adjusting to do before a threesome would be possible. If it doesn't happen, then no, it would not be fair, but it would simply be a reversal of Severus and Lucius's experiences in the two decades before this story, albeit without the many mistresses.Honest comments can and do help. I just can't help but find the term 'OOC' a bit insulting with the effort I put into characterisation. But that's my problem, not yours. I'm glad that you do like the story, and also take the trouble of writing reviews.
Response from HannahSmith (Reviewer)
Well, what can I say. Of course I meant no insult. But I once wrote a challenge story in which I made Severus and Draco rather good friends who worked together, and one of the 'judges' called that OOC - still don't see why. I suppose we all have our own ideas about the personalities of canon figures. Severus being a man certainly is an argument for some stupidity on his part... I don't like his possessiveness at all, but that's my own preference, of course. All the same, not loving someone doesn't have to be an argument for not sleeping with them - you can just find them nice and attractive enough. Anyway, I am curious to see where you're going to take them from here.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
I'm sure you didn't mean it as an insult. We definitely do have our own ideas about characterisation, what can we do but agree to disagree.Again, the connection between loving someone and having sex with them does depend on characterisation. This Hermione would be monogamous if left to her own devices.I hope the rest of the story satisfies your curiosity!
Response from HannahSmith (Reviewer)
Some characterisations of Severus, or other characters, are more appealing to some people than others. That's what fanfic is about, after all. If we get too strict about canon, the S/H pairing (and many others) would be OOC in itself - I don't think we would want that! I do hope that Hermione realises that monogamy in your world, with so few females, has its disadvantages (or rather that polygamy has its advantages). But then I'm rather partial to HG/LM pairings and threesomes, as you may have guessed by now...
I'm sorry to let this story go, but it is too much for me. I have deleted the email alert for the sake of my sanity. I'm very, very sorry as I like this a lot. However, the cliffhangers are not my cup of tea, in general, and there are only so many I can tolerate in stories I love. I am sorry. There are three options. 1/ Severus will return and save her. 2/ This is Lucius's plot to make her forget Severus and "woo" her himself leading to a multitude of twists none of which seem appealing at the moment. 3/ The elf poison triggered a relapse of the illness, and Severus would have to deal with her loss of memory again. In all these cases, I do not wish to wait a month only to be treated to another anguish at the end of the next chapter. So I'm off. I am sorry.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
I'm sorry to hear that. Cliffies tend to be a hazard with my WIPs. I don't suppose it will help much that there isn't a month to wait in this case (I'll be posting the next chapter by tomorrow), as there will be more cliffhangers.I hope you will feel able to pick this story up again when it's completed, which will hopefully be over the summer. If not, thank you for your reviews. I do appreciate them.
Oh I knew that Tricksy was up to no good! That evil house-elf! Was if the wards of the house she manipulated or did she add her own elf-magic to keep Hermione out and Severus in the dark? And why didn't Severus sense the change in the wards, or hear Hermione trying to break in? Why did he leave in only 2 minutes? That seems so persnickety! I hope he realizes that she was trying to get to him and things work out in the end.I know you'll have someone find Hermione, but what an evil clifie! and so well done.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Very evil house-elf! Good questions, which should be at least partly answered in the next chapter.Thank you! I just can't resist evil cliffies, I'm glad you thought it was well done.
ARGH!!!!!!! I am now BALD because of your cliffhangers!!!!
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Sorry! I just can't resist them!(although I must be doing something right to get a mob with flaming torches and pitchforks! It's been quite a while since I got one of those, I've missed them)Thanks for reviewing!
I hope you are writing like mad. I'm obviously not the only one who wants the next chapter asap. Thanks somuch for the gripping tale.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
I'm delighted that you want the next chapter so soon! You'll be glad to hear that I went through the final edits today, so I'll be posting it soon. Thanks for reviewing!
AHHHH! You are EVIL! Poor Hermione!
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thank you! I can't really deny that. Poor Hermione indeed!
OMG! What a horrible thing. What a cliffhanger!!! Can't wait for the next chapter, though!
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thank you! Next chapter coming by tomorrow if not sooner.
Oh Merlin! It was just plain cruel to leave us hanging like that!
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Sorry! When it comes to cliffies I suspect I have a mean streak a mile wide. If it's any consolation, there's not long to wait for the next chapter - I'll be posting it soon. Thanks for reviewing!
ZOMG cliffhanger! Did Lucius mess up the time or was it the house elf?? Who will come to her rescue?! Aaah!
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Sorry, I'm evil like that! The next chapter should cover that, to be posted soon. Thanks for reviewing!
Again I've fallen so far behind on my reading! This was a wonderful chapter. I loved how you handled Lucius getting his invitation, and I also loved Hermiones inner musings throughout. Thanks for this chapter. I'm off to try and catch up some more. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thank you! I'm glad that you're catching up, and even more so that you're reviewing!Hope you enjoy the next two chapters!
Grrr, that cliff hanger was plain evil! Poor Severus and Hermione. What the hell was Lucius thinking? That Hermione would have anything to do with him after Severus left? I'm all for making her the Widow Malfoy.
*Prays that the next chapter is already in queue* Me, too.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Sorry! Sometimes I just can't resist.Lucius certainly needs to rethink, although at the moment he's the one that's risking being a widower. Not in queue, but it will be posted by tomorrow: I'm a validated author.
Oh man, you really invoked some wonderful heart racing moments in this chapter! I can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thank you! I'm delighted to hear it, that's what I was aiming for. Next chapter coming soon!
Arrrgh ... EVIL CLIFFIE!!!Anyway, that evil house elf deserves to die. But Lucius' treachery was what give Tricksy the perfect opportunity to make her attempt on Hermione's life. I can't imagine how Severus will feel when he finds out how they were both played and how Hermione's life was put in grave peril because of it. *Prays that the next chapter is already in queue*
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Thanks! I hoped it would be.Hermione would certainly be safer if Tricksy died... I've certainly done my best to put thhat feeling across in the next chapter. The next chapter isn't in queue, but it will be posted by tomorrow: I'm a validated author.HermioneDiggory's response: YAY!!!
Lucius seemed to be thinking sensibly last chapter when he decided not to Polyjuice himself. Is it Tricksy who has caused all the bother? Or is that just wishful thinking? :)
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
That he was... we shall see! The next chapter should answer that question, and I'll be posting it tomorrow if not sooner.
Ayerf,That was plan evil.Short chapter.Evil house elf.Waiting for more.Please hurray.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Sorry! I just couldn't resist. But I hope you'll be pleased to hear that the next chapter is coming soon. Thanks for reviewing!
Response from pickles (Reviewer)
(tapping foot)How soon is soon?
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Short answer: by tomorrow.Long answer: when I've caught up with my reviews. The horror of backlog does not help with writing more, hence the need to keep on top of 'em.
Response from pickles (Reviewer)
Yippee
OMG ! You can't let us hanging like that. And If I happen to get my hands on Lucius, believe me, Hermione's wrath will be nothing more than a baby's nail scratch agiant marble.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
I won't be leaving you hanging for long! I'll be posting the next chapter tomorrow, if not sooner.I'd pity Lucius, but I think he deserves what's coming if you get hold of him. Thanks for reviewing!
Oooh. Definitely need to be rid of Lucius. And I do hope that elf has done herself in.
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
Either that or he really needs to turn over a new leaf!Hopefully she has...Thanks for reviewing!
Ahhh!!! I'm so curious to see what the next chapter will be like. When she was drinking the tea I was screaming no you idiot don't drink it( then I remembered she could not hear me- giggles) Where is severus? Lucius? I have to say this is one of the top 10 evil cliffies of all time which means you are a great writter who leaves us wanting more but, hopefully we can see what happens in the near future. This is one of the few times I will agree with the mounting of a house elf head on the wall. Sorry I know that sounds very violent but arggg so mad at the house elf. I was wondering when she would stop just calling hermione the M word and actually cause her real harm. Well sorry for the rant. Great chapter and story .
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
You don't have much longer to wait for the next chapter!I'm delighted to hear that this chapter touched you enough for a rant!Thank you for reviewing!
I can't believe you left us hanging like that!!!!! That was a great chapter. Heartbreaking that Severus left, but I bet he'll come back to save the day :-)
Response from ayerf (Author of Polyandry and Other Problems)
I couldn't resist! Thank you! We shall see in the next chapter...
