Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
I loved the part where Sev realized Hermione jumped off the cliff with him despite her fear of heights!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! She really does trust him:)
"And yet she leapt off a cliff because I told her to. He thought for a moment that he couldn’t breathe." Best line in this chapter. You are doing such an amazing job building the tension between them slowly, great writing. Love this story and cannot wait for more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! :) I'm glad you're enjoying the slow build; slow and steady wins the race. Thanks for the review.
Something *ahem* I was reading last night reminded me of this chapter, and I just had to come back and read it again. Can you believe it has brought tears to my eyes again! And the last paragraph never fails to bring me joy.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Merrin, Merrin, Merrin!! Hahaha. I'm sitting in Rochester in an awful, souless airport lounge, tired out of my mind and just *waiting* to fly back home, and I checked my email to find this and laughed aloud. THANK YOU!! You just made my day.xoxoxoxox
I really am loving this view of Severus as caring head of house.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm convinced actually, that the caring head-of-house Severus is supported by canon--after all, none of the Slytherins seem the slightest bit scared of him. On the contrary, they act as if his good will can be taken for granted.I'm glad that you're still enjoying the story! Thanks for the review.
I liked the interaction between Snape and Hermione. It seemed very in character.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Characterisation is very important to me and it always means a lot to me when anyone finds it convincing.
This is a very promising beginning. I liked how you went about healing the curse that Dolohov inflicted. It sounds like you may have some very unusual magic in this story. It's also interesting to think of Snape as a phoenix.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I hope you like the rest of the story just as much. :) (I can say that with a clear conscience knowing how much of it is already posted!)
I loved the mathematical solution Hermione came up with, well more like the process to it. Interesting chapter, I wonder if Minerva is a bit upset about being out of the loop.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I wonder if Minerva was even aware of being out of the loop? I hadn't really thought about it before, but she might have just assumed that everyone was as confused as she was? I dunno. Anyway, thanks for the review, you always get me thinking.
So, that's going to be an interesting conversation when he gives her more information, right? I'm looking forward to it!! Great chapter, as usual.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I imagine it will be! :) I'm glad you're still enjoying the story; thanks for the review :)
What a joy to have found your story! I absolutly love to come across work that is so good to our favorite pair, and you have captured them both brilliantly! Keep writing, I can not wait to read more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you so much for such positive feedback! :) I have really enjoyed writing the story--it's my first fanfic, and I didn't really know what to expect. I'm particularly glad that you find the characterisations believable. Thanks! :)
Hermione sometimes is too hard on herself, she of all people I would think realizes that you can't predict the future completely, based on diviniation. But then again she is studying arithmancy, but that's more percentages than anything else. Well, her being hard on herself was good this time, led to finding something which sounds really important.Looking forward to the next chapter. =)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I agree that Hermione is frequently too hard on herself. She's had so much responsibility--particularly for Harry. I think it's a crucial facet of her character.Thank you so much for all of the reviews! They were such a pleasure to read. :)
I'm glad that Hermione managed herself against McLaggen, he's such an idiot. Glad that he will be dealt with.Yay for reconciliation between Snape and Hermione. Even if it isn't 100% best buddies now, its a start.Looking forward to reading the next chapter.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Yeah, even though Hermione got a bit of help with her rescue, I couldn't have her as the entirely helpless damsel--it's just not her style.I'm so glad that you're continuing to enjoy the story. Thank you for all the reviews! :)
It's probably struck me before in reading this story, but I've never really remarked on it...Arithmancy sounds like it could be really interesting, if not a bit time consuming. Probably a bit like advanced calculus and stats thrown in with politics anyway. I'm glad you are incorporating it in your story as much as you have, usually you see Hermione studying potions or charms.Going to read the next chapter right away...interested to see who it is that is kidnapping Hermione.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
That's pretty much how I conceived of Arithmancy. I took a bunch of advanced math classes when I first started university--lots of vectors and matricies. Perhaps because of the presence of so many vectors, Prof Vector and her Arithmancy classes made me think along those kinds of lines. I'm glad that you're enjoying its addition to the story--I like to think about the skills Hermione has that make her unique.
Snape never learns does he? He always lets his temper get the best of him and runs off the people that care about him. Oh well...maybe he'll learn someday.Going to read the next chapter...now. =)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Four reviews in one day? How wonderful! Thank you! :)Snape never has learnt yet, though we can always hope for the future! He can be pretty nasty when he's a mind.
well, that just explained the whole enchilada right there! love hermione and severus' growing relationship. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Oh, I'm sure I can make things a little more complicated before I resolve things ;) I'm glad that you noticed the little hints of things unfolding between HG and SS.Thanks for the review :)
So much great to comment on in this one - first and foremost - don't mean to be stupid, but having your insightful description of why Snape is like a phoenix was incredible - I'd never thought of it on my own - then your lay out of plot here was great- you are a master at subtle movements that I don't pick up on until two moves down the chapter - SMILE - thanks for all of your hard work - I really appreciate your writing - what a treat
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Oh, wow! Thanks for such a great review :) I really dithered about putting in that scene with HG and SS about the phoenix explanation--I was worried it might seem too overdone. So I'm *delighted* to know that you liked it and that it provided useful information.I'm really glad that you continue to enjoy the story. :)
Great Update. Loved the part when Snape cut in and said that Hermione is hardly a child. When are they going to stop dancing around each other lol. Look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! :) I'm glad that you signalled that line out--from Severus it was practically a public avowal! Though I think they'll be dancing around each other just a little longer . . . ;)Thanks for the review.
LOl Duumbledore has to tell something important to Severus, who has to tell something important to Hermione, and Harry is to be in the dark. What a web you've woven. I really liked how Severus knows what's going on but McGonagall didn't.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Telling anybody anything seems to directly counter Dumbledore's personal creed . . . so we'll have to see what happens. :) I'm glad you liked the Arithmantic complications; thanks for the review.
Ah. So Dumbledore has been told what "needs" to happen. Now---will he listen?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Good question! Ha. Telling people information is not really Dumbledore's style--we'll see what happens! :)Thanks for the review :)
Interesting Arithmantic stuff. (That sounds so eloquent!) What will Severus have to tell Hermione, I wonder? Hopefully, the PLAN!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! You'll have to wait and see what information each man decides to impart . . . ;) Thanks for the review. I'm really glad that you're still enjoying the story.
Oh, your updates are always wonderful, and yet, unsatisfying ... at least on the level that I always want more! Hope you update soon ....
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! :) That's terribly complimentary. I shall endeavour to post the next update asap ;)
All I can say is that I'm extremely glad I've been following this story. It seems to be taking a different approach than most stories with all of this Arithmancy, and I like that. This is much better than anything I could imagine thinking of! Can't wait to see more :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm also extremely glad that you've been following this story! :) Arithmancy is Hermione's favourite subject, after all!I'm so glad that you're enjoying it! Thanks for the review :)
Wow! Great chapter! All I can say is, I hope that Dumbledore takes Hermione's and Vector's new equations to heart and actually shares some information around for once... I swear, he's like a miser with gold when it comes to knowledge...
The Arithmantic equations are fascinating; I'm just barely adequate at math, myself, but I can certainly appreciate the beauty of a well-crafted equation! This was always one of the branches of magic that I wished JKR had gone into more depth with in the books.
Keep up the wonderful work and I eagerly await the next chapter!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I get the feeling that Dumbledore won't share anywhere near the amount of information that would be really useful--as you say Dumbldore:information::miser:gold.I'm delighted that you're still enjoying the story--particularly the Arithmancy. In JKR's Potter narrative the entire subject is dismissed rather too easily as an academic pursuit that Hermione likes--which makes it perfect fodder for HG-centric narratives. :)Thanks for such a lovely review!
Cleverly done! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm glad that you thought so. :)
I like the way he graded her essay! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you :) He's got a wicked way with words, that man.
I like the way you've worked that. Harry can't be told that he needs to die until the very end (canon), Snape most likely needs to tell Hermione that he will 'need to become an enemy in order to be/stay a friend', and Dumbledore - well he probably should explain to Snape about the DHs. The Elder Wand in particular, but I just don't see that happening.Once again, you've managed another seamless tie into canon, while adding interesting details and insights. Good update!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I think there's an awful lot that Dumbledore should be telling everybody!! I was never convinced of the validity of his policy of telling nobody anything important and leaving them a trail of tiny breadcrumbs as clues. But then, if he had told everybody everything, poor Hermione wouldn't have had to spend so much of DH living in a tent ;) I'm glad you liked the update!! Thanks for the review. :)
