Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
Short and indeed lacking in Severus, but I am sure dear author you have your reasons. I will forgive you if you promise he will have a stellar role in the next chapter. Well done and intriguing as always.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
The next chapter--which is already half-way through the queue--is FULL of Severus . . . and has some particularly interesting SS/HG interaction. I'm glad that this chapter was palatable even without him ;)Thanks for the review.
Noble Severus, kicking himself for his feelins and that he didn't let her kiss him. It would have been so easy to jsut let her, ut no, long suffering hero and all.I was so amused by Viktor's reactions to Severus' suggestions, and liked how Severus toyed with him. It's too bad that he's so enthralled wit her and won't do anything about it.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Ah, Severus. He's such a tortured soul.I'm so glad that you're enjoying the story :) Thanks for the review.
Oh this is really a good story. The guym scene was so cute. and I lovd your version of the party, but oh how I wish he hadn't turned his head! I was so hoping that he'd kiss her! Ah, well.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you :)If he'd kissed her then, though, so much of the sexual tension would have disappeared, and really, no-ne wants that to happen! ;)
Oh, geez, I felt so sorry for Severus this whole time. It's hard not to think that something might be going on. Poor guy.Loved the Portkey. Very clever.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm glad to hear that Severus earnt your sympathy--that means I must be doing something right! :) I probably should have given this chapter an angst warning. Thanks for the review!
ooooh i love jealous snape!!! more of him please?? :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Okay. But only because you asked so nicely ;) Otherwise, you know I would have had him stop in the very next chapter ;)Thanks for the review, I'm glad you're enjoying the story.
Such a good description of Snape in the meeting when Victor is not understanding what Snape is driving at. It would seem that Snape is not able to deal well with people of lesser intelligence (as if we didn't know that already).Clever idea of the voice-activated portkey, as well as the phrase used to activate it.Looking forward to the next chapter. =)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Poor Viktor, he's smart enough but hasn't much of a grasp of subtleties--particularly not in a foreign language. And Snape, yes Snape really truly needs to spend as much time as possible with those who are quick on the uptake. Otherwise he gets frustrated.I'm glad that you like the portkey--if they have touch activated ones, and time activated ones, I don't see why they can't have voice-activated ones too!
Poor Sev. Bad author, torturing him like that. Andof course, Mr. Details misread Hermione completely.I want the next update. Update, update, please, please, please.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
If Severus didn't have such a high tolerance for torture, he'd have died long, long ago, and we wouldn't be half so interested in him. :)With luck the next chapter will hit the queue tomorrow . . . after that point the time you have to wait is out of my hands. Thanks for the review. :)
I love a jelous Snape! I do hope Hermione was telling Krum the 'just friends' line.Look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I love a jealous Snape, too. It fits with his tortured romantic personality. You'll have to wait for the next chapter to see what transpires between VK and HG. Thanks for the review! :)
What a superb story and an excellent chapter! But poor Severus ... he has to see Krum as an untainted version of himself, the man he could have been, if only things had been different. no wonder he would feel that Viktor is better for her and that he wouldn't stand a chance anyways. Good for Victor, though, to so passionately put forth exactly why he wants no part of Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Kind of an awkward situation for Hermione, though, to care very much for both men, thus getting caught right in the middle ...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for such a lovely and thoughtful review! What we see of Durmstrang in canon (pureblood supremacy, interest in the Dark Arts, etc) just emphasises the physical similarities between Viktor and Krum. It makes it even more interesting to juxtapose the two and the very large differences between their lives and their prospects. In that regard, JKR sets up the HGSS shippers so nicely . . . ;)
poor severus! i hope you won't be following dh perfectly. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I guess we'll both have to wait and see about that . . . not even I can be sure at this stage. I'm delighted you're enjoying the story!
Poor Severus! I hope that some of what Hermione told Victor was to keep his paws off. I wonder when Severus will come to realize that she is in love with him, because I know she already is.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Your certainty cheers my heart. I wish you could tell Severus; he just might be tempted to believe you. Thanks for the review.
Very good chapter!! I feel so sad for Severus!! Please make it better!gab
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Eventually I will, but he's not one to be cheered up so easily . . . ;)
Poor Severus can see in Viktor a lot of what he would like to be. Hopefully, he will learn something. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
That's a good way of looking at it; I hope you're right.
Viktor's invention certainly seems handy. Will it be used in another chapter?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
You'll have to wait and see ;) No, here's a hint: it will *definitely* be used in the next chapter, but whether it comes back again after that will have to be a surprise. Thanks for the review!
My god, why has nobody reviewed this chapter yet? It's brilliant. Viktor represents all that Hermione was before proximity to Snape endowed her with subtlety, and Snape's unacknowledged envy of their youthful sexual understanding is both entertaining and poignant. I usually refrain from reviewing - mostly because others seem to produce more enthusiastic and sincere-sounding commentary than what I feel capable of doing - but this delinquency (what the Spanish call a falta) wasn't to be borne. Your story is an absolute pleasure.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Your review makes my heart sing. To be read so closely and sympathetically is all that a writer could wish for. Thank you for this, you have left me otherwise speechless.
I really enjoy the parallel you've created between physical capability and magical strength, it lends itself to the storyline very well.Your characterization of Joceyln made me laugh when Hermione realized she was the perfect fit for Slytherin.Looking forward to the next chapter. =)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I like thinking about Jocelyn, about what a sympathetic Slytherin character might be like; since JKR is always writing from Harry's perspective, there's no hint of that in canon. The next chapter will be up as soon as it makes it through the queue!
this story is definitely one of the best I've read in a very long time. I cannot wait for the next chapter =)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very, very, very much :) The next chapter has just been added to the queue so you shouldn't have too long to wait . . . Thanks again for the review!
ZOMFGWTFPWNED that was awesome! *squees!* Don't keep us in suspense too long!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you, thank you! :) I can count the squees in my life on the fingers of one hand; you have officially made my day ;) The next chapter was just this moment added to the queue.
love the idea of sev in a t shirt and sweat pants! yum! terrific update. love the idea of training the body to make the magic stronger. great stuff. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I have trouble imagining Severus training in his teaching robes, and I want to believe that he's keeping fit ;)
great chapter!!! loved your plot twists - can't wait to see what is next!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! With luck, I should add the next chapter to the queue in the next day or so.
An almost kiss! And what an odd reaction. And she didn't tell him about the meeting with Viktor. I guess she'll have to send an owl.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks for the review! Hermione will have to come up with some other way to send the message. And you'll find out more about Snape's reaction in the next chapter, for sure.
YUCK -- Cormac! Perhpas in wizard lore, you have to exchange a kiss under the mistletoe.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks! ;) I agree: Cormak = YUCK!
Great chapter. I'm not sure I understand the connection between tumbling and warding though.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks for the review. I mean it to be more about using her whole body and thinking with and through her body--which she had to do to master the tumbling. Like when you kick a soccer ball, you don't just use your foot, but have to balance and push through your whole body. I reckon Hermione would be just the type to naturally maintain quite a distinction between her mind and her body; Snape wants her to overcome that.
I bet Severus saw her other mistletoe kiss and was displeased!Great work --more, please!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I can't see Severus thinking that being kissed under the mistletoe by a student, in the public corridor no less, is a very good idea! Thanks for the review, I should add the next chapter to the queue in the next day or so.
Ummm. Ooops? That was a great closer, the mistletoe.Jocelyn is a great OC. I like the things she pointed out about Hermione and especially when she mentioned Marietta and her motivations. That girl is not going to be remorseful about saving her mother's job. Hermione can be quite callous in her revenges - I hope this will make her think.Just curious - how far are you taking this story?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Oops is probably an understatement ;)!!I'm glad you like Jocelyn. I don't think JK gives us enough Slytherin characters to play with. The Gryffindors, much as I love them, are always too convinced that they're in the right to think about ethics that hard.In the deep, deep imaginings of my mind, the story is looong, extending over several years (in narrative time). I'll proabably break it up into a couple of chunks, though, you know, with imaginative names such as "Phoenix Song II (or, Hermione Granger and the Deathly Hallows)" ;)
