Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
The end of the story already?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?! You bet I will be here to read the sequel!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Well, the year's nearly over! Now that Harry's attacked Draco in the bathroom, there's not that much more time before Snape does Dumbledore's bidding. :)I will definitely write a sequel. Thanks for the review. :)
Good chapter -- I would be happy for a sequel. I hope Hermione and Sev come clean with their feelings in the last chapter of this story....
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much. I don't know that "come clean" is an accurate description, but there is a twist! (It's in the queue already, so it shouldn't be too long.)I'm glad to hear that you'd be interested in a sequel, I'll get to work asap! :)
You bet your sweet bippy I'm interested. This is an incredible chapter. Your characterisation of Severus has a depth that few others can match. Thank you for this chapter.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I'm relieved to hear that Severus' inner turmoil came across well--I wrote and re-wrote that section several times because I was worried it was overly melodramatic. :)I shall write a sequel--just give me a month or so to deal with real life projects that need to be sorted out first. Thanks again for this review. :)
Yes, totally interested. But please don't have her kiss Ron.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
:) I wouldn't want to spoil the plot . . . ;) Thanks for the review and the encouragement!
I'm totally interested, although I hope you can make the camping trip a bit more exciting than it was in canon. I have the utmost faith in you. I can't believe it's almost over! But I'm glad you're doing more.I think the meeting with Severus and Hermione after the death to obliviate her parents should definitely be a moving one. I'm looking forward to that, whether it be in this fic or the next.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
The memory modification will definitely fall in the next book (in order to maintain proper chronology), but let me reassure you that the knowledge that people are up for reading it has fully committed me to writing it. :)Thank you not only for this review, but also for those along the way.
Well, if this is the next to last chapter, I certainly HOPE there'll be a sequel! That sounds like an excellent plan, HG and the DH. I'll be reading, cerainly.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Knowing that you'll be reading, I'll be writing. :) Thanks for the review.
Of course :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Okay then :) Thanks!
Heck, yeah! Bring it on! (Please?)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Okay, since you asked so nicely ;) Thanks for the encouragement!
I am TOTALLY interested in a sequel!!! But, does that mean it will be canon-compliant? As in "death of Severus Snape" compiant? 'Cause that would be a little hard to take. But I'm really excited for the final chapter of Phoenix Song. Lovely work. Hope Sev gets to tell her how he feels, before the end.... :) Thanks for sharing! -CC
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
There's more than one way to write a canon compliant story ;) My goal is just not to contradict canon. Thank you for this review, the encouragement, and all of the reviews along the way :) Come summer, I'll write a sequel :)
I started to read this a while ago and got distracted, so I just started from the beginning and read through the whole thing so far in one sitting.WOW! I am on the edge of my seat, it's totally brilliant the way you have managed to weave Hermione's interactions with Severus into the real story and make it totally plausible - JKR missed a trick, it's obvious that Hermione would be more heavily involved than just aligning herself with two boys, seriously! I love love love it... can't wait for more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Welcome back! and thank you very much! :) Firstly, I'm relieved to hear that the story stands up to that kind of intense reading. It's a rather different animal than reading one chapter per week; no doubt it uncovers inconsistencies, etc. And secondly, for you to call it plausible delights me! :) I really want to believe that Hermione put that prodigious intellect the fierce loyalty of which she's capable to a more productive use than merely following after Harry obediently. Thanks for the review--the next chapter is currently *2* in the queue, so it shouldn't be long.
Hmm, so what are they going to tell Hermione?? And I feel so sorry for Severus!! I'm anxious to read more!! Great work!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Well, you should get some hints on the answer to that first question in the next update. I promise!Yeah, poor Severus, Dumbledore takes every opportunity to wind the cords of obligation tighter. Thanks for the review.
So Dumbledore parted with some of his treasured information after all... but I notice he made sure it was info that didn't really help Severus in any way! In fact, it was just one more obligation and one more thing for him to have to worry about. Sheesh. On the other hand, Sev's quite brilliant... now that he knows that the Elder Wand really does exist, how much of a jump for him to start thinking of the other Deathly Hallows? Harry's cloak in particular?I hope Severus just says "sod it" and tells Hermione whatever he wants to about his plans! She's smart... she's not going to publicly defend him when she knows that he needs to look the villian. She'd hate it, but I'm sure she'd play along and act like she believed it all.Another great chapter--next, please!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
You have keen eyes! Indeed Dumbledore was very careful to tell Severus something that only served to wind him tighter to his promise, rather than something that might actually help him.I do hope you like the next chapter! All going well it should post tomorrow (fingers crossed). Thanks for the review :)
Wow, the last part of the chapter actually gave me the chills. I loved Severus's 'sky diving' lesson; I'm willing to bet Hermione's heart was in her throat before she vomited.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Hey, THANKS! One can only imagine what it must have been like for Hermione to leap in such circumstances . . .I'm glad to hear that you liked the chapter; thanks for the review :)
I hope there is a happy ending this time
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Hmmm . . . I'm afraid you'll have to wait and see ;)Thanks for the review.
how beautifully you describe what's going on from severus' perspective. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for such a lovely review :)
LOVE IT!!! Love the slow build of tension and the glimpses of trust that HG has for him, love the way he pushes back thoughts of his reactions to her, (really liked that he lost his composure learning about her taking a leap with him), love that Tracey Davis is back in and hopefully bringing some relief - HATE Albus Dumbledore manipulative cretin that he is - and can not wait to see what you have planned for this next - thanks so much for your hard work!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it. Slow and steady, right? She does really trust him, though trust Snape to doubt her basically from the moment he realises it! Thanks for the review.
I do despise Dumbledore's plans, so manipulative. Poor Hermione she really does trust Severus and when he kills Dumbleore what is she going to think? I hope her trust doesn't stop, after all she is a know-it-all maybe she'll work it out? Look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Dumbledore is terribly manipulative!! Terribly! You're right about Hermione being a pretty smart girl . . . and she does seem to trust Snape. Hmm . . . ;)Thanks for the review :)
I hate Dumbledore and his plans! I hope doesn't listen to his 'fatherly' advice not to tell Hermione about his mission. He truly underestimates her, and so does Dumbledore.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Dumbledore is a master manipulator! Don't ever forget it :)Very very soon we will learn the information Snape passes on to Hermione. Thanks for the review. :)
I inhaled a bit of my wine when Severus conjured himself up a coat rack. How very persnickety of him. I do hope Severus unbends enouogh to tell hermione about his plans to murder AD. I think it all hinges on that dont you? MEEP.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Hmmm . . . I (of course) know exactly what Severus needs to tell Hermione, and I will let you know very soon--but not right now ;)I couldn't see him running in his robes, dumping them somewhere, or risking being seen by any stray Hogwarts' inhabitant peering from a window in anything but his professorial black!!! The coatrack was defintely one of those moments when the character acts in a way that the fanfic writer hadn't exactly anticipated. Thanks for the review.
SHIT I missed a chapter! Well that means I get to read 2 at once tonight so its not all bad. I loved the conversation regarding the phoenix song and Snape healing her. You know how I adore any hints about Snape being a phoenix!! I think Hermione hit too close to the truth and that is why he kicked her out. Let me just mention again for the 112th time: I love how your story weaves in cannon. Its so damn cool. When Minerva said: “I haven’t studied Arithmancy since 1944,” I laughed and laughed!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm so glad to hear--for the nth time and always--that you like the mix of canon + new story. It's a tricky balance to maintain.I'm also pleased to hear that the phoenix discussion met with your approval; I actually almost took it out because I was worried it was too soppy!Thanks--once again--for the review :)
I am really beginning to HATE Albus Dumbledore. And to love Snape ...and his growing love for Hermione...more and more. (sigh)Still thoroughly reeled in....
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm delighted to hear it :)Dumbledore is a master manipulator, I don't think anyone is in any doubt about that. Thanks for the review.
Just load more onto his back, why don't you, Albus? :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Whyever not? Has he ever done anything but that?
LOL that quick glimpse into his private domain and off for a jog in the woods – cute. I liked the Apparation lessons. I really liked his reaction to her admission of fearing heights – that she had jumped anyway! That really knocked his socks off!
What I didn’t get is why Severus thought that Jocelyn hexed a Gryffindor – unless she meant… I dunno, a Gryffindor that we don’t know? I immediately thought of Goyle. LOL Then the confession of Severus having killed his father! OMG! I didn’t understand why Slughorn refused to testify on Severus’ behalf, but I’m glad that he was acquitted. Still, how did Jocelyn know about the event? Or was it just that she knew about his dad being killed and not the specifics?
And Dumbledore’s ‘bit of information’ is the about his wand – what an added burden to place on Severus. Now I wonder what Severus’ ‘bit of information’ will be fro Hermione and if he will tell her about the vow to kill Dumbledore? I think Hermione will bear that one well enough, and if Severus tells her NOT to ‘champion’ him – she might not and just carry the secret. At least someone would know!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm glad you liked it! I did mean a Gryffindor that we don't know; presumably another first year. She probably hears all sorts of things about Severus passing as gossip among the Slytherins, and I imagine that was where she got the information that something amiss had happened.Dumbledore is his normal manipulative self, making sure to use his extra piece of information as a means to committ Severus more securely to his assigned task.I guess we'll have to wait and see what information Severus passes on to Hermione ;)Thanks again for the review. :)
Ooh, interesting backstory! And Dumbledore discusses the Elder Wand with Snape! Maybe in this reality, Snape can tell Hermione the truth about killing Dumbledore? Will Snape's admission to Jocelyn affect her thoughts after he kills Dumbledore too? Hmm...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you!Snape is going to have to tell Hermione something in order not to jepardise the entire plan, though what it might be . . . hmm . . . I wonder! ;)Killing Dumbledore is likely to affect his relationship with everybody he knows--friend and foe alike. Thanks again for the review. :)
Alright, so I'm eating my words here - he did spill about the Elder Wand. LOL!I absolutely adored Snape's reaction to Hermione when she got sick after being Apparated to safety, even if it was only for a split second. It has to be mindboggling and soul wrenching to know that someone trusts you so implicitely that they'd ignore a deeply ingrained fear like that. It was enough to know that she trusted him to get them to safety without doubt, but to do it and override a HUGE phobia in the process... if he wasn't in love before, he should be now.The moments with Tracey and Jocelyn were heartwarming. Each meeting was fraught with tension because of what was discussed, but I like seeing him interact with his House. It is not just Hermione's regard that he stands to lose in all of this.Lastly - hang it all Albus! If Hermione hasn't spilled the beans on what is going on at this point, she won't betray Snape if she knows his task and why. I hope Severus decides to fill her in. It's not as if they have to tell Dumbledore she knows and Snape could use a partner later on.Great update, as usual.~

Thanks for such a thoughtful review!Yes! Dumbledore did tell him about the Elder wand--though you will have noticed that he failed to mention the Deathly Hallows . . . Always keeping his cards a little too close to his chest, that man.Hermione does very much trust Snape; she doesn't have any doubts. We can only wait and see what Snape does with that information once he comes to the point of divulging information. :)I'm thrilled that you liked the Tracey and Jocelyn sections, too. The DH year certainly promises to be a lonely one for Severus :(Thanks again for such an awesome review!
