Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
I never thought about Dumbledore's Army like that. Now I will have to rethink book six lol.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
By the time I'm done I hope to make you rethink more than just OotP!!! But seriously, *thank you* -- I'm delighted to think that my story is having any kind of effect.
I have just finished your story in one sitting and I LOVED it!
Hmm, he's all alone with his Slytherins. It's no wonder he favors them. Loved this line: If only he could piss off Potter and cheer up his Slytherins to such an extent every night.I'm sure if that really happened we'd have a Snape who hummed as he meandered down the hall and who even smiled now and then.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I love the icon! Grumpy Snape, brilliant! I think that JKR, bless her heart, gives the Slytherins as a whole a pretty raw deal. They produce one evil wizard in 100 years and suddenly one quarter of the school is bad? I don't think so.Thanks for the review! :)
I already started this one on fanfiction. net and am so glad you put it up on this site. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment and hope that you dont loose steam anytime soon! I love that you don't make us wait too long for the next chapter! This is great so far and I can tell I'm going to like the entire story!

Welcome! The TPP admins ensure that my grammatical aberations are much improved, which from my readers' perspective, can only be a good thing. I can't believe that I've lived so much of my life with such a fuzzy understanding of compound sentences and where exactly the comma should go. And I hasten to assure you that I shan't be running out of steam any time soon!
Really excellent dialogue. The meeting in the Slytherin common room shows a head of house who knows and cares for his students...but is willing to tell them what they need to know, straight-forwardly and clearly. A very fine chapter!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! Snape has such a tricky line to walk--convincing the children of Death Eaters that he's loyal to the cause without signing up the entire common room as the next set of recruits. Thanks again for the review!
a great development chapter - thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you and you're welcome! I'm so glad that you're enjoying the story. :)
great points for the other side
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
The *other* side?;) Thank you *so much* for the review--what a joy to wake up to.
Oiy! Severus appears to have eaten something that does not agree with him.... could it be essance of guilt? I truely do feel for the man the only one who respects him he is forced to shun for forms sake.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I do believe you might be right! What a perceptive diagnosis on your part ;) I'm so glad that my story, at least, agrees with your digestive tract! Thanks for the review, it made my day to read this as I ate my breakfast.
Ooooh, I love your Severus! And I love the way you were able to talk through his thought process when it comes to his House. I have a bit more respect for Slytherin now! Nice update, can't wait for more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Why, thank you very very much. More is on the way . . .
Good note of how deeply Lucius and Narcissa care for their son. I could see Narcissa having trouble and thus being careful over her darling boy. Interesting take on Slughorn, I can also see Snape disliking him. You remain amazingly, outstandingly canon, averting the Harry filter. Kudos!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Why, thank you! Draco may come across as insufferable in Harry's eyes, but his parents clearly dote on him.
IMHO a perfect Severus; "..Mr Potter gets more conceited every year" and "..to deserve your cast-off beverages". Hehe That's great. Happy indeed to see you posting chapters so quickly.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I *love* writing cutting comments for Severus, and I'm delighted that you're enjoying reading them. Thanks for the review.
Interesting take one the first of HBP. Severus is in a right state, isn't he? This should be good. (But I will miss torturing Umbridge, last time i'll mention that!! LOL)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
ooh, that Umbridge is a nasty piece of work! Thanks for the review--such feedback is always appreciated.
You know, I don't think the asterisks are really necessary. We all read the books ;) Just a disclaimer should do, really. They're a bit distracting, is all.And that is the only complaint I can even fathom up about this fic, because it's glorious, and I love it.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I can't tell you how deliciously wonderful this review made me feel! Thank you!The terrible truth regarding the quoted dialogue is that in my "Real Life" I'm an academic and cannot -- despite all my best efforts -- avoid marking the borrowed text somehow. It was all I could do not to put footnotes and page numbers . . . In the end the asterisks seemed the least invasive.
Such a different side to him with his own Slytherins.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Of course! The behaviour of the Slytherins during Potions lessons during the earlier years made it very clear to me that he couldn't possibly act towards them the way he does towards the other houses (Gryffindor in particular).
that is exactly how i pictured severus as the slytherin head of house! bravo! thanks so much for the superb update
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you, thank you! He expends so much energy defending even those students that he doesn't like; I imagine that he would be a superb Head of House.
Enjoyed every chapter! I look forward to reading more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm *delighted* to hear it.
This looks fun. Do I guess rightly that we will follow through the completion of book six and maybe book seven? The last few I've read that followed them have ended and I miss them.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Absolutely. This story will follow HP6. Sometime in the future I anticipate a sequel, that would, of course, be called "Something-or-other (or, Hermione Granger and the Deathly Hallows)". I hope you enjoy the story.
This is brilliantly written and even though we sort of know what happens, I still find myself on the edge of my seat! Fantastic stuff! Looking forward to the updates.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much. I'm glad that you're enjoying it. The next chapter is already in the queue, so you shouldn't have too long to wait.
I loved the exchange between Dumbledore and Snape. Screaming behind and Occulmlency shield is not something I'd have come up with, but I think it's brilliant. Voldemort was evil in a subtle way, I think that's important too. It's easy for him to become 'cartoonish' and over-the-top. He's more threatening when he's more low-key.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks for the review. I agree about your assesment of Voldemort: there's something much creepier about him when he's picking off his victims one-by-one (like Charity Burbage) than when he kills anyone close to him (as, for example, when he hears the news from the goblin about the Gringott's break in).
Oooh, interesting development. By dodging the Harry filter, you're making this very canon so far....BRILLIANT! Eagerly awaiting more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks! While Harry has a talent for eavesdropping, he certainly didn't know everything that was going on . . . :)
This was really good! I can't wait to read more. :)Your writing is very descriptive!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! The second chapter is in the queue, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. Thanks again!
Great start! Looking forward to the next!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! You shouldn't have long to wait . . . ;)
What a unique and intriguing beginning ... I love the idea of Severus as a phoenix. I really hope you continue with this. I am so hooked, LOL. I was really surprised to read this is your first story because your writing is so beautifully fluid and descriptive. Well done!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I am definitely continuing, in fact, it took me so long to get up the nerve to post it that much of the story is already drafted (in some form, some bits are much better than others). Your description of my writing made my heart sing!
So is he really a phoenix or was it more of a metaphor? Nice begining.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Now that is a very good question!Certainly what Hermione feels when Snape sings to heal her is very similar to the feelings Harry had when Fawkes sung to him in the Chamber of Secrets : the music was both inside him and outside, it gave him the strength and courage to go on, it was balm for his heart. That doesn't really answer your question, though, which perhaps is for the best ;)
I love this! Very well-done and quite in character for both Hermione and Severus. Please update soon; I can't wait to see what happens next!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! It is my ferverent hope to keep the characters recognisable throughout. We'll have to see how well I manage that!
