Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
I really like your interpretations of Rolanda and Minerva. I can see them this way. Poppy fits too, for that matter.I had to laugh at Snape's manner as he interrogated Hermione. You've really got it bad when the back-chat is coming from yourself. Hermione's warning and declaration was interesting. If Snape had had her cast a ward at that moment, it would have been unbreakable, I am certain.Poor Hermione. No one takes her seriously as a burgeoning young woman. Or at least, that is the way she sees it.Another nice update. Thank you.~

Thank you for such a thoughtful and perceptive review. I'm really delighted that you find the characterisations convincing--particularly for those characters who aren't fleshed out in canon.Snape has it really bad, and I fear the poor man is going to be rather upset when he realises ;)I didn't want my Hermione to be a trembling, nervous virgin (that has it's place--just not in this story). Anyway, thanks again for the review!grangerous.
Hurray! Two chapters in such a short space of time! I can't wait for the next!

Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the story :)I'm aiming at one a week . . . fingers crossed. Thanks again for the review.
This is a good story to read, and I look forward to more. :)

Thank you very much! More is most definitely on the way (with the next chapter in the queue already).
I always did like the scene when Hermione sent the birds after Ron. Foe some sick reason I find it amusing.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I particularly like her golden comment as she leaves the room (the one about not leaving Lavender to wonder where he's been)! And I love that she hexes him rather than fleeing in tears; attagirl Hermione! Thanks for the review!!
Getting very good, a nice slow build in their relationshp
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! Slow and steady wins the race . . .
poor hermione. that's even more painful the second time. i love the relationship between jocelyn and hermione. i hope they'll become close. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I agree: poor Hermione. She spends a lot of the year pretty miserable in JKR's version of the story. For the bestest of best friends that the trio is supposed to represent, it's a rare year when they don't fight and not talk to each other for long periods.I'm glad that you like Jocelyn! Thanks for your review. :)
Excellent and fascinating - I'm really looking forward to seeing where the Arithmancy is going. And thank you for making Vector three-dimensional (hmm - that is probably an accidental mathematical pun of some kind beyond my ken - tensor?).
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you and thank you. Your Vector pun is hilarious! She definitely now has magnitude and direction ;)
Very nice to see the whole incident from her POV.Another great chapter!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I'm trying to avoid repeating too much of HBP within my story, but I thought her fight with Ron was crucial. I'm so glad you liked it. :)
wow - I am so impressed with your story arcs - you are weaving them nicely and I can not wait to see where you take it all. Lovely characterizations - teen HG is so realistic esp. in regards to interplay with canon events - very nice job!!! Thanks for sharing
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much. I'm particularly delighted to hear that you're finding the teenage Hermione believable and the characterisations convincing. It means a great deal to me, so, thanks!
I am always intrigued to see how people will interpret what cannon left us to deal with. Keep up the good work.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I've been really enjoying the challenge of fitting events in and around canon so that my story makes sense without contradicting anything directly. I'm delighted that you're liking it. :)
Written quite lovely. One of these stories I can hardly expect to continue. Inspires me to read HBP again to recall all those special situations. Maybe a little more explanation of Hermiones feelings while seeing Won-Won and Lav-Lav could have been nice. On th other hand, sometimes it's surely better to concentrate on the plot an not too much on detailed descriptions of feelings.Just keep on writing that way, please.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for such a generous reveiw. I've just posted the next chapter to the queue, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. I'm so glad you're enjoying the story. :)
These calculations are quite intriguing. I wonder what they'll say when Katie is added.Ron's such a jerk. Always has been. Always will be.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
JKR did Ron few favours in the later books. He had such potential to grow up into a nice young man, but she didn't let him.I'm glad that you're liking the calculations! Thanks for the reveiw. :)
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
You're so right! She must like brats or something. It would have been nice to see some growth. Well, more than what she showed, at least.
It's so nice of Hermione to be friend and mentor to little Jocelyn. I love your take on the events in HBP. Too clever!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! HBP was/is my favourite HP book by far.
Always wondered when it changes from "out after curfew," to "up early." :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Me too! Maybe 5:30? or 6?
the unblocking of jocelyn had me in tears. it was a most appropriate name for the chapter. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Really?!? I'm speechless. Wow. Thank you for letting me know!
I liked your metaphor about Hagrid. And ooh, excellent note on Albus' reaction to blocking! Poor Ariana. No Hermione this chapter :( Excellent work!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Her essays made an appearance, which sort of has to count for something, right? And he was definitely thinking about her. The next chapter, at least, will be all Hermione, though you might think then that there's not enough Snape ;)
Hopefully Severus cured Jocelyn and I think with a bit more time with Hermione the girl might open up enough to actuallycome to trems with her past. It was kind of Sev to let her see his past and that he too was abused. I love the bit about Hermione's essay, that was very cleve and I liked that he was pushing her in such a private way.Dumbledore's reaction of curse was because of his sister, more that anything. That maybe if she were around today, Severus might have told him how to cure her.Very good chapter
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much. I think Dumbledore would have a lot of trouble with the idea that Severus had succeeded where he had failed (that is, in dealing with someone who was blocking). I'm glad that you liked the bit about the essay! :)
again - really nice job - thanks for your work and for sharing it with us - look forward to the next chapter
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I just added the next chapter to the queue, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. Thanks again for reviewing. :)
What's up with Dumbles?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
He's feeling guilty about his sister Arianna, who was blocking, too. And having to confront the realisation that Severus succeeded where he failed is a little tricky for him.
Interesting how Severus sings the curses away from people. I like the way you are developing Professor Vector's character -- she's not usually a character in the forefront of stories. When will we see more Hermione/Severus interaction?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Eventually, the singing will be come a crucial component of this story, but it won't be apparent why for a long while yet. I'm glad that you like Prof. Vector, she has a very important role to play, too. The next chapter has a little more SS/HG, and then the couple of chapters after that will be chock full of it. :) Thanks for the review.
Well written and quite enjoyable.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you're enjoying it.
Indeed this is a unique situation a muggle born in Slytherin house and from the sounds of it she comes from a background similiar to Severus'. I imagine she will tug on the heart strings others see as non existant.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I imagine that you might be right ;)Thank you for the review, it was lovely to wake up to it!
i'll bet the young one has been sexually abused and that's why she can occulde. just a theory. wonderful update. love the relationship between severus and minerva. and the sharing of the whisky. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Hmm . . . what an interesting theory ;) I'm afraid that you'll have to wait until chapter ten to get any idea of the reason. But then, that's not really so far off . . . I'm so pleased you're enjoying the story!
I am enjoying your story, I think that Jocelyn is an interesting mirror for Severus to hold up to himself and his past; but I am sure that there is more than that. I look forward to the next chapter/s with great interest.A small niggle ... shortbread is never referred to as "shortbreads" for the plural. Minerva would have said, "... before you eat too much of my shortbread." That's the Brit in me coming out!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for telling me! I will go and fix it immediately. I wish I could say that in Australia, we call them "shortbreads" all the time, but the truth is that it's probably only my ignorance.I'm glad that you're enjoying the story, and thanks for the review.
wonderful - can't wait to see the next chapter - thanks for sharing
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! The next chapter is in the queue, patiently waiting to have rogue commas whipped back into place and set forth on an unsuspecting world.
