Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
Thank you so much for another great update. I must admit that I am more than a little curious on who little miss Smith is. Is she truly a muggleborn? No matter what I do hope that she will be safe at Hogwarths. I don't know how cannon you will make this story, but Severus "little" interlude with Voldie surely should be taken as a sign to start carrying anti-venom in a very reachable pocket....:-))
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Why, thank you! I think that now Jocelyn has Snape on her side, she'll be as safe as houses. My plan is to keep this story as canon as I can, but we'll see what happens . . . I spent a lot of time working out how to fit this story in around other events.
Have you explained who the cat was before? I must read the first few chapters again...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Did you realise that this was review no. 100!?!? I'm so excited!I don't think I mentioned explicity who the cat was in the story . . . I definitely did in a review response or two. Eventually, it will be completey clear. I'm so glad that you're enjoying it!(and, hooray, review no. 100!)
You can't help but pet a cat. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Of course you can't! ;)
Another wonderful chapter. I'm interested how Jocelyn will affect the story and looking forward to more Severus and Hermione time.
Can' t wait for more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I should have put in an author's note to let people know that the next chapter is *entirely* SS HG interaction . . . in fact, maybe I'll go and put a comment in to that effect right away.
Aww, kitty cat. Severus got off lightly...comparatively.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
He sure did! But Voldemort is a nasty man--deciding to punish him even though he remained convinced of Severus' loyalty. Thanks for the review.
I'm really anxious to see where you're going with little Jocelyn. I feel so bad for the poor girl. You know, two of the worst killers in England were daughters of women who prostituted themselves. The Dark Lord really is horrid, isn't he? I know, he's supposed to be, but I find myself saying, "My God, what a monster!" even still. LOL
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
That's such a creepy fact! Poor little Jocelyn, she really did have a horrid home life. And yes, the Dark Lord is nasty nasty nasty. Thanks for the review!!
I enjoyed Severus's concern over the muggle child that had a home life not too different than his own...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm so glad that came across!
I always took Severus as a cat person. Dogs are too friendly and boisterous. I know it was Minerva, but the way he pet her spoke volumes.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! For some reason, I imagine that Minerva would be far more cuddly as a cat than she is as a person (perhaps allowing her to show a side of herself she won't relax enough to show normally), and that Severus would allow himself to relax much more around Minerva-the-cat, letting her provide comfort even though he would just sneer and snarl at her if she tried it in her human form. And I agree about Severus and dogs. I definately couldn't see him patting Sirius Black . . . ;)
Very interesting chapter. I'm curious to see what happens with Jocelyn Smith in future chapters.I love the interactions between Snape and McGonagall.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very, very much! I can promise that Jocelyn Smith will make a few appearances in upcoming chapters . . . She gives me a chance to explore the Snape the Slytherins see, and I like that!
A brilliant re-write of canon, infinitely more logical and enjoyable! Thank you very much.
Love the Arithmancy plot and the reason for the confunding of McLaggen (a much better and satisfying reason than JKR`s). It is true that without Hermione, Harry would have failed long ago.
(And I simply love re-telling stories because I was disappointed with the original)
Thank you. The story is gearing up nicely.
Interesting beginning! Thanks so much.
the vector computations sound incredibly complex and amazing. harry couldn't do it without her. great update. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Harry wouldn't have got anything much done without Hermione, IMHO ;) I'm glad that you liked the update.
Can't blame the girl. She was just protecting Ginny.Very interesting Arithmantic problem. I liked the odds with the different variables. Absolutely true.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I was convinced Hermione had to have some better reason for Confunding McLaggen than cheating; she's prepared to break rules, but only when there's a strong reason to do so. And I loved writing and thinking about the Arithmancy!
Very interesting chapter - I have to try that Greek coffee thing once...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! Greek coffee is worth trying a couple of times, sometimes it can take a few goes to get a real taste for it.
Cormac is SUCH a jerk! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Oh, I very much agree!
Your attnetion to detail is great! I look forward to Hermione's lessons. I know they will be a welcome distraction for Severus!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I had to re-re-read the book to make sure it was all fitting it correctly. I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.
I like the world you are creating here. I cannot wait to see where you take it.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! [Hint: I'm planning to take it all the way ;)]
Very clever, Hermione's reason for confunding McLaggen! Good way to mix fiction and canon.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much!
Hermione certainly took care of MacLeggen, not that I blame her.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
He was being rather obnoxious, wasn't he? Thanks for reviewing!
Another great update, I liked this version of why Hermione confunded McLaggen, a bit of personal revenge and "need of space" sounds much better to me than being besotted with Ron. (And yes, I notice that she still have some affection for Ron, but I will excuse her by being quite young yet and neither have she started working with Severus.... :-))The aritmancy calculations were very intriguing and very well presented!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! As it stands in Canon, Hermione's confunding of McLaggen comes across as rather OOC--at least to me. I wanted to find an explanation that I felt was convincing. And I *loved* writing about the Arithmancy, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it.
nice job - loved the intro of Arthmantic equations and the relationship between the three that it effects. Looking forward to seeing this go forward - but why isn't Snape talking to her??? Thanks for sharing
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Aha! You'll have to wait just a little bit longer to find out what's going on with Snape. Their lessons will start up soon enough, never fear ;)Thank you for the review! I'm glad that you're enjoying the story.
oh my- really good
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you, thank you! *twirls away to eat breakfast with a big smile*
Hee, only the tiniest. Like the Arithmancy, great add in. You continue to amaze me. Loving this!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! :)Arithmancy is a magical numerical science that predicts the future, and supposedly in Canon, Hermione's favourite class. I just can't understand why JKR left it out of her plot development once she'd introduced it!!!And I love Caeria's story, Pet Project, where she makes quite a large (though very different) use of Arithmancy.
The Arithmancy bit was fascinating, though I had to read it twice. Maths isn't really my strong suit. LOL And I dearly loved it when she played the joke on Cormac. Brilliant.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
In one of my previous lives I was really into pure maths -- remembering my own joy at discovering imaginary numbers (i = the square root of -1), and then adding a magical component, it got a bit out of control! I hope it wasn't too confusing!I'm so delighted that you're enjoying the story; thanks for reviewing.
