Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
Loved the scaring then the tickle fight between HP/RW/HG. that was fun.I'm not the least bit surprised that Hermione figured out why Jocelyn is blocking. Hope she can help the girl.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for the review. :) I feel pretty confident that Hermione will have something helpful to impart . . . she normally does!
This is an exceptionally intelligent take on events. I am enjoying this genesis of Hermione and Severus greatly. I agree that Slytherin would house Muggleborns, even if most of its occupants believe otherwise. It's littered with halfbloods as it is and we only made the assumption that they were all purebloods because of the way JKR originally presented the main characters of that House.I am rooting for success in getting young Jocelyn unblocked. I look forward to the next update. Happy writing!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much for such a generous and thoughtful review. For seven such wordy books, there is a lot that goes unsaid in JKR's version of events--which is all the better for fic writers! ;) The next chapter is in the queue, so it shouldn't be too long. Thanks again for reading.
quite good, you can see developing plot lines
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! From now on, things are going to get a little more complicated (which I guess is a good thing?).
he really is an excellent teacher when someone wants to learn, isn't he? i loved how he was with that poor little girl. thanks so much for the brilliant update.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for such a lovely review. Hermione really does want to learn, which makes a world of difference. Now Jocelyn has Snape on her side, things are looking up :)
Poor Jocelyn ... what a horrible thing for a child to go through! I imagine Severus will be having a little chat with her mum. After all, she'll be going back there during breaks and it surely wouldn't do for all his and Poppy's work to be undone, would it?
As for Hermione, it sounds like she's making significant progress, moreso than Harry ever did.
Great update, I look forward to the next!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much. I think that Hermione, as the organised, bookish sort that she is, would be naturally more disposed towards Occlumency than Harry was, since he's so impetuous. Plus Hermione doesn't have the problem Harry did of fighting Snape every step of the way. Jocelyn certainly had a very troubled home life, and yes, future holidays might continue to prove awful. I can't imagine that every Muggle family would react well to random magical displays from their children, though.
While Severus is tinkering with those for Poppy, he may wish to consider an untraceable poison. That poor kid.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Aha! The perks of being a Potions master! At least Jocelyn has Snape looking out for her now. Thanks for the review!
nice, nice, nice - really enjoy the secondary story arc of Jocelyn - thanks for your hard work -
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you, thank you, thank you :) I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.
It must pain Severus to have to deal with a child who brings to the for front his own miserable path. I wonder when he is going to bring Hermione into the mix? I am also curious to see if he assisting Jocelyn will result in either she or Hermione learning the secrets of his own childhood.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Yeah, I think that Severus finds several echos of his younger self in the young Jocelyn. It pains him, to be sure, but it makes him more likely to help her. Two Muggle-born witches with Occlumency skills? I think we can safely imagine that coincidence is going to lead to something eventually . . . :) Though finding out what exactly remains some way off! Thank you for reviewing.
Thank you so much for the update! I am so glad that Severus takes special care of Jocelyn, I think the Rawenclaws got of rather easey though, I hope he will make the detention harsh:-))
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
You're welcome! Thank you for the review. Detention with Severus is pretty horrible at the best of times, and I think he'll be particularly unforgiving towards these Ravenclaws.
Now that seems quite logic to me – imagine if your child started to suddenly make things fly across the room and the like... I'm sure that there are parents who would beat the shit out of their kids for that :-(
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm sure that there are, too, sad though it might be to admit it. Luckily for Jocelyn, Snape has been keeping up on his current academic literature and has an idea of how to go about fixing things.Thank you for the reveiw :)
Thank heavens he can help Jocelyn. Poor kid. Thankfully, Hermione got the hang of Occlumency. She catches on quickly once she understands the basics, doesn't she?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
One of Hermione's most dependable traits is that she'll catch on to things pretty quickly. :) And luckily for Jocelyn, she was sorted into Slytherin and Snape has put his rather impressive mental capacities into the task of helping her.
Ooh, loving little Jocelyn. Poor thing! Oh, poor dearie *Gives Jocelyn a cookie and hugs her*
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Now that Snape has realised what the problem is and is determined to help her, I think Jocelyn's life is about to get a whole lot better. Thanks for the review!
excellant, i like the interactions here
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I aim to please. :)
Wow -- Severus is teaching Hermione to occlude and Jocelyn to open her mind -- will he have them help each other?Another great chapter!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
You know, he just might . . . you'll have to wait for the next chapter to find out for sure, though! Thanks for reading and thanks for reviewing. :)
A very well-written story. It's interesting the way you have woven bits and pieces from JKR's "Half Blood Prince," into this story and yet managed to make it your very own. Cheers!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I feel like I'm exorcising a few ghosts: by fitting this story with the HBP events I can fool myself into believing that this all happend without Harry being any the wiser ;)Thanks for the review.
''For a moment he’d . . . No'' Hmmm No what? . Is something going to sparkle with them two? Plus Severus is rather caring, even it is his own house. Look forward to more.

I guess you're going to have to wait and find out! ;) There is definitely something there, hmm, I wonder what? Thanks for reviewing! The next chapter is on its way!
Oh dear. I'm terrified to think what may be found in that poor child's mind. I love the bit with distracting Hermione. LOL Whatever works! Can't wait for more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Poor Jocelyn hasn't had a very happy life up until now, but I think Severus is aptly placed to help her--he didn't have a very happy home life, either. The next chapter is in the queue . . . :)
Yay another update. Severus really cares for his Slytherins. Poor Jocelyn, 4 against 1 and blocking her own magic due to abuse? At least its not Slughorn making the potions (for some reason I keep thinking Snape is much better at potions than his old potions teacher). I like how Severus really knows have to help, confuse, encourage & wind up Hermione all at the same time. He seems to be starting to relax around her a teeny tiny bit (or is it just me?).
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm convinced Snape is better at Potions than Slughorn, too! Not that I really have any reason except for INSTINCT, but in this case I'm certainly going to trust the conviction. I'd have to agree that Severus is relaxing a bit more around Hermione; I'm really glad that came across. Thanks for the review! The next update is in the queue, too, so it shouldn't be long.
Really engenious how you handled Hermione's lessons, the noise of the common room. I especially like how Sverus handled Jocelyn's problem. Poor girl, attacked by the ohters only because she's having a hard time at school. Kids can be so cruel.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm so glad that you're enjoying the story; thank you very much for the review. Since Hermione had been Occluding without realising it, Severus had to trick her into conciously conjuring the shields.Kids can be really cruel. At least now Snape has worked out what Jocelyn's problem.
I really like you character, Jocelyn. I think she has the potential to be a very powerful witch and even a lively character in Severus' life. I look forward to your next posting. Thanks, JoAnne
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! Original characters can be a risk, but I needed more Slytherins than JKR had taken the time to flesh out. Thanks for the review.
how snapeian of him to toy with her like that. great update! thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I think that "snapeian" is a brilliant adjective, by the way. ;)
thanks for showing a young Hermione who isn't all polished and still needs to grow up a bit - makes it all so much more interesting - thanks for sharing and all your hard work
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm trying really hard to keep Hermione age-appropriate and in character. She's only seventeen after all, though she's a pretty quick learner once she puts her mind to something! Thank you for reviewing.
Ah, now we're getting somewhere! Let the lessons begin!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Hold onto your hats, and let the ride begin! Thanks for reviewing!
more scemes to come
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Never fear! The plot will thicken . . .Thanks for the review :)
Oooh. Alcohol with the grown-ups! That's a real birthday party. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
But of course! It wouldn't be a grown-up party without alcohol! ;)
