Reviews for Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P)
Ok, I'm hooked. I'm looking forward to Hermione's lessons with Severus.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Hooray! I'm so pleased to hear that I've captured your interest. The next chapter is on the way . . .
Looking good so far. I liked the look into the situation that made Draco a Death Eater.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I have to say, I really like thinking about what goes on with Voldy-mouldy behind the scenes that we see in the books. I'm glad you're enjoying the story.
I like this so far. I always did think there was more to Severus than what was mentioned in canon and I really enjoy it when authors explore his character more in depth.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! Canon provides a very one-dimensional view of Snape right up until the last moment, but he's such an interesting bloke . . .
An interesting conversation... I bet Hermione can't wait to get started with those extra lessons!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I wouldn't take you up on that bet, you'd be sure to win! Given how much Hermione likes her ordinary lessons I think we can feel pretty certain that extra lessons would be one of the most exciting things on her mind over the summer holidays.
Your story is very believeable and compelling. I'm enjoying the interaction between your characters. I can't wait to see what happens next. Well done.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you for such a lovely review. I'm really delighted that you find the story believable.
These lessons will certainly be interesting. Especially since Snape is being nice, yet not nice.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I like particularly like Snape when he's being nice in a way that makes it hard for anyone to notice. Thanks for the review.
Ooh, the tale proceeds! EXCELLENT!!!! Brilliant use of when the Harry filter is off!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm so glad that you approve ;)
It will be interesting to see how the lessons go. I'm very much enjoying this story so far. The dialog the descriptions all paint a lovely picture in the reader's mind. Looking forward to chapter 4.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I've had so much fun writing this story. I just this minute added chapter four to the queue, so it's on it's way.
i always thot the strength of the body should contribute to the strength of the magic. excellent update. i look forward to year 6. how close to canon will you be keeping? or would that be telling? thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I'm going to stick as closely to the letter of canon as I possibly can. And when I say "to the letter" I mean to imply that there are often several ways to interpret that which JKR has written. I hope that answers your question without giving too much away!
This is really interesting and I find myself wishing there was more of it posted:)Well done, for a believable and intriguing story:)Fizzabella

Thank you! There is more on the way, as soon as my beta is done with chapter four I will add it to the queue.
I must be cruel at heart, because I find it awfully funny when Snape insults Harry and Ron. I do really like your theory on physical fittness and mental quickness. I find I have better retention when I'm working out regularly.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
I find it awfully funny when Snape insults pretty much anyone. He tends to make the hilarious-but-cruel comments I wouldn't dare to say in real life out of concern for people's feelings.I feel the same way about working out myself!
Exceptionally fine dialogue in this story so far. And the idea of Hermione waking up at the sound of a softly turned page is delightful.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! It's exactly the kind of thing that I imagine Hermione to pay attention to.
what an interesting take - I will be looking forward to more of your work - thanks for sharing
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! Thanks for reviewing -- it makes my day.
Oh, the imagery is so beautiful...and this makes complete sense! A very, very promising piece...I'm yearning for more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! I'm so pleased that you like it and that the premise seems believable. I'll endeavor to make the rest as convincing. Thanks again for your review.
The plot thickens. I enjoyed Snape telling off Dumbledore. I think you've done a fine job of illustrating the give and take of their relationship. Can't wait for more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! More is on the way . . .
“I’d leave the sarcasm to me, Albus, you don’t do it justice." Truer words were never spoken ... I freaking loved that line! So Severus is not really a phoenix, the singing was the cure for the Sectumsempra curse and Hermione just thought his singing reminded her of one? And here I was thinking that Severus was a phoenix animagus or something. Gotcha.Just a few minor quibbles; in the sentence, “The time for sentimental decisions has past," the word you're looking for is "passed" rather than "past". And in this sentence, "I exposed the unblemished skin of her chest and watched her tender flesh rent open by a curse that my younger and imminently more foolish self invented," the word should be "eminently".The last is that I believe Harry would be considered a fullblood rather than a halfblood because his parents were a witch and a wizard, even though his mother was a Muggleborn. All in all, this was a great update! I particularly enjoyed the conversation between Severus and Albus. I think it's hard and a bit frightening for Severus to realize just how old Albus really is and that he won't be around forever. As much as Albus was upset at the thought of losing Severus, I believe Severus would be completely devastated to lose him as well. Though he'd probably never admit it in so many words.Again, well done!

Thanks for such a careful reading. I've edited the text to fix the typos you'd spotted; it's amazing how many pairs of eyes can pass over such obvious errors.I know that I have read somewhere that J.K. said that it would take several generations before someone with muggle heritage could be considered pureblood, and that Harry himself would have been considered half-blood even though both his parents were magical. In fact, in one of the books, Harry, Ron and Hermione are talking about the blood-purity ideology of the Death Eaters and Hermione says that they'd be perfectly happy to accept half-bloods, it's just mudbloods they hate, and Harry jokes that yeah, he'd be able to join up if they just stopped trying to kill him long enough.I guess it's not like any of the so-called purebloods were actually pure, either. It's more of a political designation than a literal descriptions of their genetic material. Thanks again for your really thought-provoking review.
Response from PiperSnape (Reviewer)
Ah, somehow I missed JK's take on blood-purity. Just goes to show how far the veneration of blood status goes in some circles of the wizarding world. And I remember the comment Harry made about the Death Eaters asking him to join up if they would ever stop trying to kill him, just not the halfblood bit. LOL Come down to it, if Hermione and Ginny weren't considered a mudblood and a blood traitor respectively, the Death Eaters would surely be pounding at their doors to sign up two such powerful witches!Anyway, I am am really enjoying your story!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks again. Your review really got me thinking, and I tracked down JK's comments--they're on the FAQ section of her site: http : // www . jkrowling . com / textonly / en / faq_view . cfm?id=58. You'll have to take out the extra spaces, obviously, to get the link to work.
Nice job on this. Also, very happy to see another chapter coming soon.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thanks! The chapters are coming thick and fast.
He is a phoenix? That sounds interesting!

Fabulous, I can't wait for future chapters.

Like this very much.....More chapters please!

Poor old Pettigrew. No-one likes him...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
No, it's true. Even in fanfic nobody likes Pettigrew . . .
how definatively you showed the pull between his two masters. poor severus. i liked how he diverted dd from his real feelings about hermione. great stuff! thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you! I'm delighted that you're enjoying the story.
Interesting! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Why, thank you!
I love how you weave canon with the fic, and make it really, Hermione Granger and the HBP. I have to say I find this way more interesting than the whole Ron snogging Lavender and Hermione is pissed that seemed like her whole plot in HBP. (I was already a HGSS fan by then ;) ) Anyway, lovely work and I can't wait to read the next piece, I'm so glad it's finished, hehe!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very much! :) I tried very hard to keep to canon such that this story would explain and elaborate on the former, and yet still have enough of an original narrative to keep it interesting. I'm glad that you're enjoying it! Thanks again for leaving a review.
What an incredible story you have written here. It is amazing that this was your first work of fiction. I'm sorry that I hadn't read it before the voting for the Moste Potente Potions awards were cast. I love your premise that Severus helped Hermione learn so many of the things she needed to know for her year on the run. It makes perfect sense, as well as how you developed their friendship and mutual attraction. On to Phoenix Tears for me. Bravo! I have a new favorite SS/HG saga.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Song (or, Hermione Granger and the H-B P))
Thank you very, very much! :) I had a lot of fun writing the story and I'm always thrilled whenever anyone enjoys reading it.I don't find it OOC that Hermione would have prepared so thoroughly for her year on the run with Harry, even though he hadn't bothered to learn the kinds of things he might have needed to know, but I did find the specific preparations she'd made curious. I felt as if she'd had some help, even when reading the original book. This story, is a pretty extended attempt on my part to explain away things that bothered me. :)Thanks again for the review. I do hope that you enjoy the next story, too!
