I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Another good chapter. This tale just gets more and more interesting. And OMG @ Severus and the eclair! I would have needed to leave the room for a period of time.I have to admit to liking feminist!Minerva. ~waits for the next installment~
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you're liking the story more and more. Yep - I love Minerva as a feminist - she'd get things done! More soon.
Hah! Take that, you smug twit...although I bet you're seriously regretting that decision to "release" Tonks, huh? Well, if it came to you easily, you wouldn't really enjoy it, now would you?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! He was rather smug - thinks it'll be that easy, does he? He doesn't know Hermione (or the evil goddess in charge of his universe) very well, then!
There is something to be said for the thrill of the hunt.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Reviewer)
Exactly! Life can't be all eclairs after all.
OOooh, someone's mad! And someone else is guilty as sin. Now which is which? ;0
I only wish these chapters were longer - the combination of mirroring perspectives and short chapters does make me impatient, I'll admit.
More! More! It's grand.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! The chapter structure is completely purposeful, but if you're impatient for his POV, then it's serving its purpose!
Next up - his POV soon!
This was a nice chapter. Just nicely done.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it!
I love how he's obviously tormenting her deliberately, and his response to that tidbit of news. Minerva is absolutely right. Why assume she would change her name?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! [I agree on the name change issue.]
I'm so glad you liked his antics and anger - his POV next.
How can Hermione accept a marrage proposal from Ron when she is so clearly attuned to Severus??! (smacks Hermione, she is brilliant, and yet sooo stupid). Severus is obviously annoyed so he better turn on the charm quick, or at least put her in a compromising position quick to 'help' her see the error of her ways. A huge lolo to the eyebrow and dictionary comment, it is sooo true! Thanks for writing, and my back is doing somewhat better thanks for the well wishes. See you next chapter!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Brilliant and stupid - I love it!
Glad you liked the eyebrow dictionary phrase - it's one of my favorites from Hermione (most of them are from Severus).
I'm so glad your back is better! More soon.
Call me bad, but I've become distracted by the éclairs and am envisioning a whole scene with Hermione and Severus eating cream and jelly filled donuts... sucking and licking the yummy cream out while glancing at each other, in their own little world ...with the staff watching them!
It's your fault, you're the one who brought up the éclairs!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Ooo, you're kinky - the rest of the staff watching! LOL (In my mind, the rest of the staff are paying attention to Minerva's speech.)
I'm right there with you, watching Severus with his chocolate sauce - evil, evil man.
“Congratulations, Professor Granger. Although it is a pity that after having endeavored for so long to obtain this specific appellation that you would relinquish it so quickly.”“Why, Severus,” Minerva cuts in, “whoever said she was going to change her last name?”There is this niggling in the back of my mind that tells me Severus was not necessarily referring to the change in her surname. Hmmmm…things to ponder.
Quite the sexy chapter you have written. I love how he is such a smug bastard as he inflicts her with pastry style torture. I cannot wait for the next installment!!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! "There is this niggling in the back of my mind that tells me Severus was not necessarily referring to the change in her surname." Hmm, I'm pondering now as well - when I wrote it, I meant only changing Granger, but it also works that he could be implying that marriage to Ron will mean she'll give up her career. Thanks for pointing that out!
Glad you found him smug and sexy! More soon.
I like the opening of this section -- Hermione running late after staying at the Burrow against her better judgement, but unable to let the side down and so on -- oh, that engagement is only a chapter old and it's already SO irritating. (Which will make it all the more satisfying to break off.) The controlled fireworks at the staff meeting were great -- I can't wait to hear Snape's inner dialogue in the aftermath!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! The engagement is also only about 12 hours old and it's already hated - LOL.
Glad you liked the opening and the sparkage! Severus's POV next with fun inner dialogue (I love him when he's smug).
TPP has been down, and here my mail was taunting me with the "ladder update" email! well, now things are being back to normal. He's jealous, as plain as day, but he also knows Hermione desires him. There's potential for a drama to unfold.eye-brow code dictionary: love this. And I agree with Minerva's feminism. Well, I just did the same, I've never worn my husband's name.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm with you - if I ever get married, I'm keeping my name (I've got papers published and all that rot, so it makes professional sense, but it's also something more than that).
I was so happy when Hermione said "eye-brow code dictionary" to me, although I now wonder if I were channeling a bit of Buffy-speak.
Eeeevil. You and Snape both. Have I mentioned just how much I dislike Ron/Hermione? Well, canon pairings in general...ah well, you get the point; if anyone's to be seriously emotionally harmed in this fic, I wouldn't mind it being Ron. And if there's no happy ending, I'm expecting at least a bit more smut to make up for it
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! (grins happily and adjusts horns) I'm the evil one? - you're hoping for an emotionally damaged Ron! (snickers - hands over horns) Actually, I don't dislike Ron, I just dislike him with Hermione.
As for the ending, well, I will say that it won't be the angst-fest of my one-shots!
Can it get any worse? I'm sure Hermione was hoping to keep that news under wraps. The proposal was humilitating enough. How is she going to resist Snape! Will he see this as a challenge or back off?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I guess it depends on what you mean by worse. Can there be more UST - yes! Some of your other questions answered in the next chapter.
Snickers at the display! Hmm, this could get ugly.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Ugly - in a good way?
He didn't even touch her and it was hot. LOL Poor HG what will she do? Great chapter. I can't wait for more.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! More soon.
"He didn't even touch her and it was hot." That's really good to hear, so that I know things are working for readers as I'd hoped!
Gah!!! I need another chapter! You can't just leave it like this! Dammit. Anyway, looking forward to the next! GG
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Glad you liked it. The next chapter should be up within the first part of next week, so SS then!
My gosh, he is positively diabolical! Is he using Legilimency to get a sense of what she's thinking ... or are her facial expressions and posture and gestures so blatant that it's obvious, given their shared history? (Either way, it's brilliant!)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! For me, I think he's gotten so good at reading people that he doesn't have to restort to Legilimency (can't the person being read feel it, too? Sometimes fanon and canon blur for me). Besides, she's a Griff - I imagine they take years to learn how to hide what they're thinking (whereas most Slytherins learn it early).
Glad you liked it!
uh oh, Snape gives up Tonks and now this. Great chapter, I can't wait to read his POV.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Yep - he's just been confronted with the irony of the situation, but I'm pretty sure he's not amused! His POV early next week.
This chapter is pure torture, so of course I'm sure SS thoroughly enjoyed himself until at the end. I can't wait to see his POV about that particular announcement, and subsequent plotting. Hermione just got a smidgeon of a taste of what predator SS is like.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I guess it won't spoil anything to say that you're right about Severus's enjoyment here (I suppose I made it clear through her observations of him). Predator SS - I love it! His POV soon.
Oh dear, Hermione having fantasies involving éclairs and Snape. This does not bode well for this future intended, since the man of her fantasy is NOT Ron. (Can't blame her actually.)Great writing as usual, hope to see more very soon. Cheers!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! He, he, he - I think I'm going to have to torture her with more UST! Poor Hermione!
Glad you enjoyed it - more soon.
Great story. Trying out my new internet tv feature on my Wii, hard to type or I would make a better comment. :)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I played with a friend's Wii the other night for the first time (doesn't that sound naughty), so I can see the addiction. Glad you liked it!
too short, but very well written, I know you already warned us the chapters would be short, so I am grateful for the frequent updates. Anyway I can't wait for his take on the events. I love how you are alternating each of their points of view.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Short so you'll want his POV, so the chapter length is working as I planned (laughs evily). Glad you've enjoying the POVs!
Simply delicious.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! (hands you an e-chocolate eclair)
This chapter is a great development of the plot. Now... how are you going to get Hermione to cancel the impeding weeding? mmmmm... I wonder...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I tried to set up an ironic contrast of situation with the one compared to chapter 8 - glad you liked it.
Well done, Snape! Exactly what he should have said. Very noble, and all that.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Yes, he's being fairly noble here - I'm glad you liked it!
Hermione is not a coward---she would say NO.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm sorry that it seemed like cowardice on Hermione's part. I feel that she does care for Ron and is very confused and shocked, so she said yes.
