I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Well, finally. I must say I can't imagine Hermione living so long in such a deep lie. I know women who do, but they are also incapable of stopping the false life. Anyway, I wonder what you planned next.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! It's a funny thing - people can compartmentalize - esp when in an environment such as living at Hogwarts. I picture her going for long stretches of time wihtout even thinking about Ron. If she saw him everyday, you're right - things would have fallen apart sooner.
ha! I found you here...and here, you're ahead.so I can cheat instead of waiting for it on owl.yay!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I think that means you liked the chapter!
Ah YES, she ended it! And now she and Snape can be togethah forevah, united in twue wuv, and have oodles of black-haired, brown-eyed babies! *squeeee*
*composes self* Ahem. Done with the silly fangirling, will move on to reviewing.
Really I think you did a great job making Hermione letting Ron down gently. It's exactly how she would handle things, especially trying to keep her own temper in check, and being considerate enough not to throw the bad sex in his face. And DEFINITELY a good thing she didn't mention Snape ... though I wonder what Ron's reaction will be to that development? Though some part of me wishes my lovely couple could've had a torrid, steamy affair, I know it's better this way for all involved. And things can still be steamy without the added complication of infidelity.
In conclusion, thanks so much for this lovely fic, and keep writing!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm a wee bit skeptical about 'twue wuv' myself, but we'll see! (laughs)
I'm really glad that the scene rang true for you. You're right - HG is trying here, but she's made mistakes along the way, too.
I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
I think (and I'm going out on a limb here) that were hoping for the Severus/Hermoine relationship but what a very sad situation for Ron. This chapter was very well done......
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! (laughs) I think you just went out on a humongous tree-trunk! I'm glad that you enjoyed the chapter and that, even though you wanted the break up, Ron's plight still touched you!
That was awesome. Perfectly painful and so very real.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm very glad you liked it and found the emotions involved realistic!
(I've missed you on lj!)
I feel sad for Ron. But its the best. Mmm wonder where Snape is???
waiting for more good reading.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it and that Ron's plight came through for you! You'll find out what SS had been doing next!
Oh my god, poor, poor Ron.
Was it as difficult to write as it was to read?
I think you got his withdrawal and pain exactly right.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I wish I could say this was a difficult to write, but it wasn't. For some reason, both break up scenes came easily to me. When there's a lot of strong emotions, the dialogue comes through very clearly, and dialogue is the form my muse typically takes.
I'm very glad you liked it and the emotions invovled!
Response from Subversa (Reviewer)
In a lot of ways, I think emotional detachment from something like this makes it easier on the author. You still made it completely heartwrenching for the reader, so I applaud you.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Oh, but I'm not detached! I instead find strong emotions inspiring, even when they're not happy.
Response from Subversa (Reviewer)
Okay, that settles it. I am the biggest baby in fan fiction and am now willing to admit it.

I didn't mean to imply that the work lacks emotion - not at all! I see your point, too: just because the words flow easily does not mean it lacks emotional power. Now I must go wash my foot because it's been inside my less than clean mouth!

Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
ROTFL - I've never seen the toilet thingy before!
No problem - leave the angst to me!
Aaahhh, the Ron torture I've been expecting. But sadly, you've written him so well and realistically, I can get no joy from it, only pity. That's all right, though I am interested in how this is going to be in Snape's point of view next. More please!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! It's good to hear that you actually feel sorry for Ron even if you didn't want to! I'm realy glad that you liked this chapter. SS next, and obviously, he's been doing his own thing!
Aww, poor Ron. Breaking up with someone is never easy, especially if they're delusional enough to think that things were going well. Of course I'll probably be saying "poor Hermione" once Molly gets a hold of her. I can't see her letting the engagement go without a fight.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Yep - poor Ron - he actually didn't see this coming. I don't want to spoil things about people's reactions, os I'll just say please keep reading!
Excellent! It really covered the range of emotions that occur in such a situation.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm amazingly glad that you liked this chapter and found that the emotions portrayed realistically!
Aw, that was sadder than I thought it would be. But, I'm glad she's free now (though how terrible is it that "free" is how she feels after breaking her engagement?). I look forward to Severus' reaction to her availability!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. It's also good to know you found it sad because I'd meant for it to be. SS next!
Fingers crossed that Ron doesn't want to try to get her back after that. Poor thing had it coming. With a fight like that, there aren't really any winners. Well, save Severus and he wasn't involved. Hermione's free of one trap now. I wonder when she'll realise that she's caught in another.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter. Poor Ron, indeed. And you're right - things like this aren't great for either party.
God, don't I know how that feels. Thankfully not in the case of breaking up with a fiancé but yeah... You definitely captured those feelings. :)As always am waiting for more goodness! Yay!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it. It's also good to hear that the feelings rang true for you! More soon!
WOO HOOOO!!! *cough* ... *blushes* I suppose I should be somewhat sad for Ron. Poor Ron.
Moving on! YAY!!! She did it, she did it, she did it! She never should have said 'yes' in the first place or at least broke it off soon thereafter - but, hey, we all make mistakes. She just had to figure it all out in her own head. Of course, her interactions wtih Severus over the last year have certainly helped her realize the magnitude of her error. She's now certain she would never be happy with Ron - they just don't have enough in common.
I do wonder - is this the end of Ron? What will he do once the shock wears off and the anger sets in? And, my word, if/when he finds out she's involved with Snape? Hmm...
I just can't wait for more!!! *squee*
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! It's really good to hear that you agree that HG can make some mistakes (as we all do). You're right, interacting with SS really brought home her incompatibility with Ron.
I hope you're able to feel a little sorry for Ron though.
I'm really glad that you enjoyed this chapter!
Response from sshg316 (Reviewer)
I do feel sorry for Ron! Truly! She really hurt him and he had no idea it was coming. I can't help but feel sorry for him. *nods* I dislike it when Ron is portrayed as a prat in fics. He may not be right for Hermione, but he is a true and loyal friend. There's enough basis for them not to be together without all the Ron-bashing. You're doing an excellent job of showing their incompatibility without turning him into prat!Ron. :)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Okay, now you've got me pegged - I was also tired of Ron bashing and it was one of the things I wanted to show a different side to in this fic.
Response from sshg316 (Reviewer)
Yes, I completely understand. *whispers* I'm doing the same thing in my exchange fic. *nods*
Ouch. Well, that went about as well as could be expected. Ron's got a point that she should have said something sooner, but so does Hermione: exactly when was she supposed to have had the time? Smart of her to focus on why she and Ron won't work rather than worrying about the "complication of Severus" yet. Then again, Hermione is smart like that, unlike Mr. Emotional Range of a Teaspoon.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Yes - she made mistakes as well. I want her to be a bit imperfect. As for not mentioning Severus - I think her reasons may be complex - yes it would hurt Ron, but it also helps her to not admit it.
It needed to be done. Personally, even though I suppose this makes me an apostate, I can't for the life of me understand why JKR seems intent on pairing Hermione with Ron...you've hit the nail on the head that the only thing they seem to have in common is a mutual regard for Harry. Yes, it's said that opposites attract -- but the trouble is that they don't often stay attracted and especially not when the two people in question don't value the same things. The only mistake Hermione made was not doing this earlier -- Ron would still have been disappointed and hurt, but not this much. I have a disquieting feeling that this will hurt their relationship irreparably -- especially if he finds out who's replaced him in her heart.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! It's so good to hear that you also like the way I had them turn to each other because of Harry - I really do see them functioning best as a trio (not necessarily in a sexual way, mind). Yes, she also made mistakes, which I hope keeps her human. I'm very glad you liked the chapter!
Oh! Um... that was... ow.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the chapter that much (speechless is good)!
Response from Darque Hart (Reviewer)
I've noted that there's been talk of Ron bashing in the reviews. I don't know that anyone actually hates Ron, but that the idea of Ron and Hermione is so off!
All bashing aside, but, Ron tends to come across as basically clueless regardless who is writing him. He jumps to Ron-inclusive conclusions that he clings to as if his very existence depends upon it. It's like everything is obvious to him, from his point of view, therefore it must be obvious to everyone else ... to see it the way he does. Like when you wrote the bit about Molly sharing all the wedding magazines with HG, he just assumed, because she looked at them, that Hermione agreed with his unvoiced ideas about getting married. Typical Ron.
I really loved the way the chapter came across. We all knew the break-up was going to happen but it still smacked us up-side the head when it did!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
I'm glad you liked the bit about him assuming he and HG were on the same page because of what Molly was doing! I only hope I didn't hit your head too hard. (grins)
Glad that's over with! Men can be so dense--again, like she could have said, "no." Oooooh, poor Ron is going to rupture something when he finds out about Snape! Ooooooh, and Snape's going to be naughty, I will presume!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! Ron's dense but hopefully still a sympathetic character. I'm glad you liked it! SS next.
Yea! I was waiting for the break up for so long. Can't wait to see Severus' reaction! Please update soon!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Next one soon!
Poor Ron, that was touching, now just fix him up with someone quick so Hermione can move on to Snape. I really, really can't wait for the next update now.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it. (I can't promise everyone will make it through Ladder completely happy though - sorry!)
Oh, the drama! Its good to see the break-up at last. I don't like Ron too much as a character but I feel a little bit sorry for him here. Just an itsy teeny bit though!
As always, you are doing a wonderful job and I look foward to the next update.
Mandy.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! It's good to hear that I made you feel sorry for Ron even if you don't like him! Glad you liked the chapter!
Brave Hermione! This kind of thing is never easy to do. She did it the best she could, but it's impossible someone not be hurt in such situations. Now, to let Severus know...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I was trying to have her be sensitive yet not perfect. I'm really glad you liked it!
Thank the Deity she finally did it. PLEASE don't let Ron cause any more trouble!
Love your story! Thanks for your work!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you like the story and this chapter!
*fans self* Oh boy, oh boy! two sides to every story indeed. I like it when an author relates both sides.Great chapter btw and yes so far I am really loving this, I just cant wait to read more
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed his POV. Although I must warn you the entire story isn't a PWP. But I can offer some drama with UST mixed in to follow! I hope you like it!
yyyyoooowwwzzzzaaa! didn't see that on coming! aahhhem sorry about the pun, wasn't intentional! anywho. Dang girl, If the rest is like this one look out. Loved it, must read more now, keep up the lustful work, and I always knew severus would be fantastic at cunnilingus;)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the opening incident! I agree - SS's tongue has got to be good for many things!
