Victory did not make life perfect, and two years on, the shock of surviving the war is finally starting to wear off. Waking to everyday realities, Hermione and Severus discover the delights and pains of living - all prompted by a ladder. HG/SS eventually, but HG/RW and SS/NT for the first bit. I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Reviews for Ladder
Lots of talent that one has. Oh yeah. Is it just me or is Tonks chanelling Master Joda here? Well, never mind. The important part is that he HAS .
Loved the chapter, loved your Tonks, and the Weasley's slow rapproachment.
Seems like Hermione is coming to some good conclusions here :-)
Thanks! *Hands over bar of white milka chocolate*

Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter! Hee- I hadn't thought of Yoda (and Yoda and sex - erm). Glad you like the characterizatons here!
Response from FJDS (Reviewer)
Uh - yeah, I hadn't thought that far, either. Erm.
I guess it was something about the structure of that sentence that brought that connection up in my confused mind ;-)
I love your story and am looking forward to your next update :-)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
No worries - it sounds odd in US English, but I remember hearing the like in the UK (or misremember).
[I love original-trilogy Star Wars, btw.]
::rubs hands together::Look, after so many chapters I'm bound to have less than intelligent responses. And yet I still feel like reviewing. Oh I am so devoooted~ ::laughs::In other words, still loving the fic... Yum, well oiled men in small leather pants. And erm... Can't wait for Sev's next rung.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and feel somewhat speechless! Yum, indeed!
Love it!
Its nice to know that some of the Weasleys care about Hermione.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and her slow (and partial) reconciliation with the red-headed bunch!
God!!!!!!!!!! update soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so very glad you liked it! More very soon!
*lol* I love Minerva!
What a wonderful story, I wonder what Hermione's going to do with Ron - and what Snape will do about it.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad that you're enjoying the story and that you like the characterization of Minerva here!
And another intense confrontation. I'm glad you made him face Albus before moving things along with Hermione - it's going to help them, I think.
And I'm glad that Ginny came around - Hermione is sort of loosing part of her family through this.
Thank you for another great chapter, looking forward to more.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm very glad you enjoyed the chapter! You're right - Severus needed to work on some things to be ready for a relationship. And it's good to hear that you liked the GW/HG conversation! Thanks again for taking the time to review as you read this evening - I've certainly had a lot of lovely chocolate!
Good, your Severus is even more reflected than I gave him credit for :-)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and the characterization of Severus! [Although it did take him a bit to come to his realization!]
Poor Severus... but he'll surly understand how overwhelming this is for her... I hope he doesn't feel too rejected.
Nothing more comforting than understanding parents!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It's good to hear the HG's decision works as a good one for you! It's all too soon for her.
Perceptive, perceptive our dear little Nymphadora ;-)
I like the way you portray Severus thoughtprocesses and emotions...
Looking forward to more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the it and the characterization of Severus! And Tonks too!
I can so feel this situation - she's in that relationship and just waiting for things to sort themselves out. And they don't. And she finally manages to get herself out of this situation, that's been pressuring her for months.. I understand she's relieved. It hurts. But it's liberating. Which shows it was the right decision.
Great chapter! Thank you!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter! It's also good to hear that the scene and what she's feeling resonated with you - I was shooting for realism. Thanks as well for all the reviews as you go - they mean a lot!
I truly enjoy your mixture of muggle science and magic, it's intriguing.
And Severus being all metaphorical... Nice...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the swottiness from both science and linguistics!
Well, he proves quite patient...
And what a wonderful erotic tension you're creating here...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and the UST!
What an intense scene, and I love to hear the story from both sides, for some reason that sucks me even deeper into the situation...
Got to read on now :-)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you are enjoying the story and the alternating POVs! It's good to hear that it works for you!
WHAT!!!!!! lol
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter even with the proposal!
Wishing I could crawl into that portrait and give Dumbles a walloping.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter and felt for SS enough to be angry with AD!
ah, sweet! Severus is going to be very happy!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm very glad you liked the chapter!
This is great! I know that constructive criticism can be helpful to some, but I just don't have any. Much enjoyed so far!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the story!
I feel so sorry for Ron, but they wern't ment to be together. They just don't fit. As usual superb writing, I hope you will update again soon.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! It's great that you liked the chapter and that you were able to find Ron still a sympathetic character! I agree - he's not the bad guy here! More soon!
Their experiences are very different, but they're accomplishing the same task: putting their pasts behind them. And they're both experiencing the same underlying emotion: guilt.
Wonderful!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the work I wanted it to do! You're right - they both need to deal with their pasts to move on.
Cheers! Do continue!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter!
I don't buy it. Too over the top. they already had this discussion back in book 6 in the Forest. Snape isn't that haunted by his past--he'd have hung himself by now, otherwise.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm sorry the chapter didn't work for you, but I'm characterizing SS as truly caring for AD, and it's been built in since chapter 4. Besides which, it's one thing to talk about something before the deed - and something completely different to have to face the consequences of your actions afterwards.
Response from KarenDetroit (Reviewer)
He's had 20 years of facing consequences....it's adapt or die. Dumbledore was 150, and dying already. Snape didn't even use an Unforgivable, just faked it. No, it was all carefully scripted, and Snape was coerced by Dumbledore anyway. Caring is one thing, facing facts is another.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
I'm sorry, but you seem to have a rather un-factual definition of the word ‘facts.’ What you are stating is an interpretation of events – one that I have chosen to interpret differently for this story. There won't be any 'facts' until book 7 comes out, and they’ll only appear then if JKR chooses to provide them instead of leaving it ambiguous.
I look forward to reading your version in your own fanfic.
first of all, I'm so happy that there are more chapters for me to read! :D thanks so much for updating.
oh, this last part with Albus is so heart-wrenching. poor Severus :(
And I like the Macbeth quote; brings back memories of when I read Macbeth ages ago, haha.
and I have to comment about the previous chapters as well. It was so sad when Hermione stopped Severus... And how he was so upset but tried not to show it.
anyways, beautiful writing, as always!
I look forward to the next chapters :)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the emotions invovled! It may be sad for HG to have stopped SS, but would it have been healthy for them to get together then?
More when I have the chapters back!
Response from fireflies (Reviewer)
you're welcome.
and yes, I understand that they weren't meant to get together right then and there. definitely would've been unhealthy, haha. thanks for the great read :)
ooo that was joyous, i enjoyed how perceptive tonks was and i wonder whether severus has done the right hting by going after her
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter and NT here. As for what's next ...
Oh, my. Must it end there?
*waits patiently*
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter! Oh, yes - it must. But more soon!
Gah! I knew this chapter was going to end before the big show down, as it were, but still! More please!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so very glad you enjoyed the chapter!
As for the cliffie - it worked! (laughs evilly)
