Waking to everyday realities, Hermione and Severus discover the delights and pains of living - all prompted by a ladder. HG/SS eventually, but HG/RW and SS/NT for the first bit. I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Reviews for Ladder
She is eager to see me, yet we are back to formal titles?
Interesting. I hadn't picked up on that in her chapter. Thank Merlin! Such success will go a long way towards ameliorating any remaining prejudice against me in the Potions arena. The journals will be forced to publish such results.
Heh, a very believable motivation for him.
I love the rollercoaster he's on throughout this. Excellent job, as always.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and SS'srollercoater - he, he, he - a last bit of dramatic irony on my part! That's fine that you didn't pick up on that last chapter - because she didn't realize it.
I love how some of the gestures he adopted to seduce her way-back-when are now second nature to him. His impatience when she suddenly changes the subject to the more personal topic is perfect.
You are a master of UST, my dear.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and the UST! I view him as an impatient person held back by his Slytherin cunning! Glad you like it!
*shakes fist* You better get them into a bed, woman!! I think they deserve a proper shag.I had a few chapters to catch up since I was away. They were fantastic!!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so very glad you enjoyed the last few chapters! He - looks like we're bed bound!
Ahhh, no! *jumps up and down* I hope you update soon. I'm really enjoying reading this story. Its well written and I love the feeling of it. Brilliant Work. One of the best pieces of fiction I've read in ages. :DInimeitiel xxx

Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the story! Thanks as well for the comment on my writing!
woo hoo
things are getting spicy...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and the spiciness! (grins)
Fantastic. I love the juxtaposition of her scientific explanations and his not so scientific thoughts.I have to admit that I find the chapters from his POV more alluring, which is unfair of me, because both are very well written. I wonder whether a male reader might prefer Hermione's POV.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the mixture of science and sexuality! I like his POV as well!
*headdesk* When I first read the words 'Ginger Menace', for some reason, I thought Severus meant Crookshanks. My excuse is that I was still half asleep.
Needless to say, by the time I finished reading the chapter I was wide awake.
I hope the next chapter will have Severus + a bed, with Hermione in close proximity.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter! Hee! SS has been calling RW that since early on - I've set this story far enough into the future that sadly I think Crooks would be gone.
This was scorching ... I think more so from his than her point of view. The blend of feelings and physical chemistry is as hot and well-crafted as it's tangible, and that makes it such a pleasure to read.
On the other hand, the science talk produced no small amount of glee. :D
I did notice a minor typo in the upper third of the chapter. Severus says, “Good – I would hate to thank that our delay brought nothing of value,” when he really ought to be thinking at a time like that. ;o)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter and the use of sexy science! I often enjoy writing his POV more, so I can see that some would prefer to read it as well. Thanks for the typo catch - I have absolutely no idea how I copied it from the other chapter and inserted a typo. (laughs)
Reiterrating the scenes from both of their points of view has been one of the great assets of this story. Unfortunately, having the advantage of both their perspectives also brings the pain of surviving two same painful cliffhangers. In the beginning of the story, the two respective chapters used to come in pairs. Given the amount of frustration in me now, I must admit that this version of posting provides the reader with a stronger response. Hence, if the reader's response is more intensive, it must be better, right? Even if the response is double frustration. Right? Right.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the use of alternating POVs! Though you're right - it provides a mix of giving both their prospectives at the same time as two cliffhangers.
Go, Sev, go! Go, Sev, go! *impish grin*
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter! (grins back)
Wooo hoooo!!!! *twirls happily around the room* Ahem. Yes. Well. Pardon me.
:) Finally! He is a very patient man - calculating, but patient. I love how he is truly seeing her for herself. He is definitely aware that he now truly cares for her. Yay!
We're quite close to the end now, eh? I'm guessing two chapters? Should I be happy at what is undoubtedly coming ... or sad that it's almost over? I think I shall have to be both.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the complicated mix of SS here! I almost consider him impatient, yet held back by his Slytherin cunning. Only 2 chapters left!
*fans self*
That growl... oh, my. It was a long time coming, and worth every minute!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and found it worth the wait!
Okay. Now, that I dared to write reviews in this foreign language (for me), it seems like I can't stop doing it anymore^^I really love this story. I have to admit- I read the ladder incident (or accident?) twice. But also the rest of the story is great.LG
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the story! Well, the ladder incident is hopefully erotic, so I don't mind at all that you like it!
Another wonderful chapter. Can't wait for more.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter! More after I get my exchange fic done!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmthat's all I need to say about that
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter!
brilliant, as usual. can't wait for more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm very glad you liked the chapter so much!
There's his Twinkliness, meddling from beyond the grave. A lot of this story seems to be themed around the living trying to get away from the hold they feel the dead have upon them. Tonks and Lupin, Ron and Hermione with Harry, and Severus and Albus.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter! And thank you for such an insightful reading! I've been trying to make them deal with their issues so that they can move on and be healthier, but you're right - a lot of the issues are their war dead.
Just checking in to help you scale the review chart ladder.Suffice it to say that in my opinion, it is indeed taking an appropriate spot.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm very glad you enjoyed the chapter and the story overall!
Severus in denial? is it for Albus' benefit? It's about time that he and Hermione speak about their feelings.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter! No, he's not in denial, but he is trying to hide his feelings from AD because he usually does and because he's unsure what she's thinking.
That was great! I wonder what Hermione will say to him... I love how you do His and Her chapters! (Thank you for using the pictures I did, that made my day!)
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the alternating POVs!
And thanks again for the lovely banners! I'm going to keep using them!
Still the same old Albus, even as a portrait.Hopefully it'll be more than research partners soon. I hope his patience (or lack thereof) pays off.More soon?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm very glad you enjoyed the chapter and Aalbus here! More after I get my exchange fic done!
Oh you are cruel........ making us WAIT so long....... good story - sure wish I had so many friends when I was love smitten and needed someone to talk to..... hehe.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and the conversation SS has with AD! Friends are important!
OH darn........ in the harshest sence...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm glad you (maybe) liked the chapter! She's going to need a bit more time.
Finally!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the break up!
It's good to see Severus talking with Dumbledore's portrait. And of course Dumbledore is just as meddling and omniscient as a portrait as he was in life. :) Good to see those magical portraits are accurate representations of their subjects. LOL
I really, really enjoyed the snippets of Severus' thoughts. Very funny, very enlightening, as always.
Ah, they're about to see each other again. I can't wait to see that!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Ladder)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the way this Severus thinks! It's also good to hear that you liked the conversation. Yes, I decided the portraits have as much intelligence and personality as the people they portray.
