I'm a forty-something American woman who is addicted to the SSHG pairing, relatively new to this fandom. I'm also considering starting some original fiction soon...
Check out the story I co-wrote with Remarkable -- it's called "Hidden Attractions" and (as soon as it's through the queue) it's archived under the penname remarkable_linlawless.
For those who are interested, I've got two WIPs at my website (which I will eventually post here, but not until I have a complete draft). It's easy and free to join the website, so I hope you'll visit!
I am honored that my story, Witchy Woman, has been selected as a featured story for September 2010. Better yet, this honor came with the very awesome banner at the top of this post!
Here's a couple of banners my friend Atuliel made for the two WIPs at my website:
Reviews for Witchy Woman
Hmmm ... I hope that her ability to be so very understanding when it comes to Quidditch will at least have some bearing on Harry's reaction. Or at least that is what Hermione was going for. Maybe it is for the best for him to walk in on them. Otherwise she might beat around the bush for a long time and that could be just as awkward as getting it over with. Off to see ...
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, I think perhaps that was Hermione's hope -- although she does genuinely want Harry to be happy, too. Yeah, it's rough for Hermione to tell Harry stuff he doesn't want to hear -- he can be very stubborn and muleheaded about it, can't he? And this way, he can't go into denial, either. ;)Thanks for reviewing!
Hermione did a good job of standing up for herself and Severus. I also liked the way that Severus gave her support so well. I hope Harry comes around for Hermione. A cute chapter. Looking forward to the nest.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! This is definitely a major adjustment for poor Harry ... Thanks for commenting! :)
Has Harry grown up? A tiny bit at least? Good for everyone.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehe, I like to think so! It's probably good that Ron wasn't around to feed his indignation, though! ;) Thanks for commenting!
Harry took it better than I thought, and I'm glad Hermione found a bit of her backbone.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Glad you liked it! Thanks! :)
Well that was a great deal less hostile than it could have been, although predictably enough Harry ignored everything Dumbledore said to him, the prat.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yeah, I think Harry is frequently all wild emotion, at least at first, when he learns something he doesn't want to know. I figured he'd do that here, especially because of the shock of walking in on them together in an embrace, but it was tempered, somewhat, by his slowly growing maturity and his desire not to hurt or upset Hermione himself.
Yay! That worked out better than expected! Very good. I love this story.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Aww, thanks! Glad you liked :)
Oh gosh! Now I'm all anxious about what's going to happen next. I'm really enjoying your story, the characters are entertaining and the writing is clever. Definitely looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Thank you! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to let me know! Next chapter is now up -- I hope it lives up to the buildup! :)
oooh, I can't wait for the next chapter! The suspense is killing me.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Wait no more -- I've just posted it (I hope you survived the suspense in the meantime!) Thanks for reviewing! :D
poor hermione. what an insecure doofus. great update! thanks and mucho smoochies
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, I wouldn't have put it quite that way -- but that doesn't mean you're wrong! Glad you liked it -- thanks for reviewing!
He's not being particularly bright, is he?
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehe no, he's not. He's a bit out of his depth, I think, so his impulse is to withdraw, whereas hers is to pull closer. Not an easy combination, is it?Thanks for reviewing!
Oh dear! Hermione does seem a little immature in this. But then, maybe she doesn't understand that this is about him not wanting to get hurt again. He shouldn't be hurt again.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
You know, I think in this story, at least, they're both smart about intellectual matters, but where emotions come in, not so much. They're both a bit insecure about the relationship at the moment, too, so they're each trying to do what they need to in order to feel more secure (which, unfortunately, means he wants to go slow and she wants to hurry up). Hopefully they'll find a way to meet in the middle ... Thanks for reviewing!
Uh oh. She's feisty when she's angry aye? Let's see how this waiting period takes shape shall we.*giggle*Lovely!Thank you for sharing~

Hehehe, yes, she's very clear about her opinion on this -- she thinks he's being ridiculous and she's letting him know it. I don't think it's going to go quite the way Severus expects ... Thanks for reviewing!
Hmm, it feels like it's not quite a victory, but it is a start. Thanks for posting more.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Well, at least their feelings are out in the open, right? We'll see how things develop ... Thanks for the review!
Oh what was Severus thinking?? I understand he has security issues, but still. I hope he has at least the sense to stop Hermione from walking away from him.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, poor Severus is not very smart about women, is he? Hopefully, he'll be a quick study! Thanks for commenting!
“Wrong choice, Severus.” She stalked over, planted a firm kiss on his mouth; then, as soon as she felt his response, she pulled away, turned, and left without another word.Damn! That is the Hermione I love! She is basically letting him know, 'I may be young, I may not have the life experience that you do, but I WILL be heard, I WILL be taken seriously, and YOU WILL treat me as an equal partner in this relationship.' If he wants to be stubborn, play teacher in every life experience and treat her as though she's naive, he's going to find out the hard way, she isn't going to play along!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, I'm glad this worked! Poor Severus must have been gobsmacked when she walked out like that. Hermione's definitely refusing to be dismissed, which is smart of her -- he wouldn't respect her if she let him just decide without regard for what she thinks about it.Thanks for reviewing!
Thank goodness she is not letting him have total control. I think it is the fair thing for her to give him a month, but if he tries to ask for more, I hope she gives him a swift kick in the ass. I can understand his need to not get hurt, and because he loves her, he wants what is best for her. But seriously, can he just enjoy the moment and go with it? Hopefully she will wear him down. I actually expected her to get angry at him for calling her naive, especially when age, as evidenced by himself sometimes, has nothing to do with maturity. And then he totally made the wrong choice, but she didn't let it bring her down, but instead showed him that she is still in control. I want him to believe her, but I am also secretly hoping he'll be stubborn so she has to attack him in public. Looking forward to more!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, well, we all know how stubborn Hermione can be when she's sure she's right. I don't think poor Severus knows how to just go with a moment ... given his history, he's just too skeptical to believe that things will really go his way for very long. We'll see how he handles things as they progress ...Thanks for commenting!
Yes, wrong choice, Severus. But Hermione took matters into her own hands and made the right choice. I think that since she left him "wanting more," he will come around to her way of looking at their "situation." Go, Hermione!*iz grinning again*Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, glad you liked her handling of his unreasonable arguments! Thanks for commenting!
I agree, it is the wrong choice!Hermione should have smacked him when he called her naïve!Now... how long will it take till she has to resort to kissing him in public? Maybe in front of... Harry?
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, yes, he really stuck his foot in it there, didn't he? Hopefully he's smart enough to realize she'd actually do it. Thanks for reviewing!
Ha!!! Way to go Hermione - use those feminine wiles!!!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, gotta love our very determined Hermione! Thanks for reviewing!
Albus, Albus, Albus. I hope Minerva takes him to task.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Well, she'll certainly try -- I guess we'll see how well she does with it, won't we? Thanks for commenting! :)
Two naughty boys: Severus and Albus!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Oh, indeed! It's fun to write them together (which is why I so often ignore HBP). Thanks for commenting! :)
I think you are correct about the beginning bit. It might be a bit OOC, but how can we know for sure? Either way, I thought it was adorable (and that is not an adjective you use lightly with that man).Thank goodness Minerva is levelheaded here, and is wise to the ways of Dumbledore's meddling tendancies. I don't doubt he has only the best of intentions in mind, but she is correct about how quickly things could go south if either thought they were magically brought together. Maybe Hermione will mention the dreamless sleep incident to Severus and it will lead to the conversation where they compare notes on their dreams. It's wishful thinking, I know. I'm looking forward to the next installment. Soon, right? :)
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, I'm glad you liked it. Minerva will do her best with Albus, of course, but he's never seemed amenable to taking advice that runs counter to his planned course of action, has he? Next installment will be up shortly. :)
Yes, how very strange, indeed. Something tells me that between Hermione and Severus trying not to be obvious to each other about their mutual attraction, Harry wanting to come visit her at Hogwarts, and Dumbledore planning to be helpful (God deliver then from Albus' help), I think there is a monumental screw-up on the horizon.LOL! I hope Minerva is ready to undo all of Albus' good deeds. And keep Severus from hexing the Headmaster into next week. *iz grinning*Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, well, Albus isn't quite as subtle as he thinks he is (he must be out of practice after the war), and Severus hates when anyone meddles in his life, so ... And then there's the complication of Harry's upcoming visit, on top of that. So I'm thinking you're right -- there'll be a bit of confusion in the not-too-distant future. ;)Thanks for reviewing! :)
It's been a real pleasure to reread this tale of yours, love it how it developes, the interaction between H.&S., and also the role Ginny and Harry play here. Thanks a lot for the wonderful time you've given me again.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to re-read it! And thank you for the review! :)
