I'm a forty-something American woman who is addicted to the SSHG pairing, relatively new to this fandom. I'm also considering starting some original fiction soon...
Check out the story I co-wrote with Remarkable -- it's called "Hidden Attractions" and (as soon as it's through the queue) it's archived under the penname remarkable_linlawless.
For those who are interested, I've got two WIPs at my website (which I will eventually post here, but not until I have a complete draft). It's easy and free to join the website, so I hope you'll visit!
I am honored that my story, Witchy Woman, has been selected as a featured story for September 2010. Better yet, this honor came with the very awesome banner at the top of this post!
Here's a couple of banners my friend Atuliel made for the two WIPs at my website:
Reviews for Witchy Woman
Oh dear. Although, it is probably a good thing that Minerva is watching them. Otherwise, neither Severus nor Hermione would probably ever confront the situation. I love how Hermione is so desperate to get away, but then volunteers to stay for the summer, LOL. I actually feel a bit sorry for them. On to the next chapter...
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
The pair of them are so emotionally stunted, one can't help feeling a bit sorry for them. :) It's such fun to watch them go through growing pains in that area ...Thanks for commenting!
Well, as long as they are both sure that things will go back to normal after the leaving feast, then I guess it must be so, LOL. Interesting that her dream stops at the same point every time. Someone will surely notice her lack of sleep and start asking questions. Is he dreaming this as well? This definitely has me intrigued...
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL! One would think someone would notice something ... Naturally, he wouldn't allow himself to dream ... Glad you like it so far! Thanks for the review!
I have to say those two are very stubborn. lol I hope at some point they tell each other how they feel. Oh well wonderful chapter look forward to more.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yes, they really are stubborn -- and in deep, deep denial :) More is in the queue, so hopefully you'll get to see it soon! Thanks for reviewing!
Looks like they both are on vacation in Egypt... Great story, I really enjoy the progression and interactions of the characters. I am eagerly waiting for your next installment.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, I'd have to agree! Glad you're enjoying it so far. Thanks for reviewing! :)
I like this! Can't wait to see where it goes... I came looking at your stories after reading something else you had written -- I love a well-written good story.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Thank you very much! I hope you continue to enjoy it! :)
He failed at keeping Minerva's curiosity at bay. Hee. I wonder when she will figure it out.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL! All I can say is, given his emotional stuntedness, she'll probably figure it out before he does ... Thanks for commenting!
Lovely story, thank you!
Dumbledork! LOL! That meddling old fool! ...boy, has reading so much Severus rubbed off on me!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, it's okay, there are worse things that could happen than Severus rubbing off on you! Thanks for commenting! :)
I think Hermione and Severus have the right idea. Keep Harry occupied and go do their own thing. I hope Albus know what he's doing with this Quidditch Ball. Let's hope Harry has a lot of dance partners... besides Hermione. Maybe there will be a single witch on the faculty that will catch his eye. Thanks for this very entertaining chapter.Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yes, that plan seemed to work really well for Severus and Hermione, didn't it? I guess we'll see how things go at the dance. And of course Albus knows what he's doing! (Just ask him and I'm sure he'll tell you!). LOLGlad you're still enjoying it, and thanks for reviewing! :)
Albus. Sigh.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, so true! Thanks for reviewing! :)
hah, oooh that Dumbledore is so exasperating. And NAUGHTY Severus torturing Hermione. She should get up and move to another seat! LOL. Not that she REALLY wants to, clearly.Great chapter!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, well, Dumbledore has nothing better to do, what with the appalling lack of wars to mastermind ;) And apparently, Severus is very difficult for Hermione to resist! Thanks for reviewing! :)
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
Yes, I can see how he might be difficult to resist!
ANOTHER GREAT TREAT FOR US, WHAT MORE COULD WE ASK FOR. JIM
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it! :)
Response from JIMBOPATTERSON (Reviewer)
I HAVE READ THE ENTIRE STORY ON YOUR OTHER WEBSITE AND AM STILL ENJOYING READING IT AGAIN HERE. WONDERFUL STORY, LOVE IT A LOT. HOPE YOUR MUSE HAS PLANS FOR A SEQUEL. WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHAT HERMIONE AND SEVERUS DO WITH THEIR (HOPEFULLY) KIDS AND CAREERS ON DOWN THE ROAD. JIM
Well, I'm glad the boys are being more civil, and Hermione has found an excellent way to distract Severus (or for him to distract her as the case may be.) I'm a little worried about Albus' interference, but no one said the path to true love was smooth. :-D A fun chapter again, excellent characterization and a captivating plot.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, right -- Albus could send things spiraling out of control, couldn't he? Glad you are still enjoying it! Thanks for reviewing! :)
I actually think it is kind of sweet when Dumbledore meddles, as long as it doesn't lead to disaster. So about 20% of the time, LOL. I'm not sure what he thinks the dance is going to do. Maybe he really has no idea that their relationship has progressed beyond longing looks across the room. Or maybe he knows that the line to dance with Harry Potter will be so long that Severus will have Hermione to himself the whole evening, even if they have to be there as chaperones. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehe, yep. The next chapter should be up in the next couple of days, though. It's hard to say what Dumbledore knows -- though I'd like to think the staff gets a little privacy in their private quarters ... Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oh, those boys! Great job writing them so it's obvious they are trying, in both senses of the word.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, you're so right that they're "trying"! Glad you liked it, and thank you for reviewing! :)
This is a fun chapter! The "boys" behaved fairly well given who they are and how they feel about Hermione and each other... but I think Harry could have done a better job than he did.I laughed out loud when Hermione took her orange and toast and left them to sort themselves out. Good for her. Now I wonder what Severus and Hermione may be up to when Harry comes back to Hermione's rooms when he finishes breakfast. Thanks for all this fun!Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, it was really fun to write this chapter. Harry, of course, is a little bit behind in absorbing the news that Hermione and Severus are together, so he's not quite up to actually being nice. But Hermione was smart to get out of the crossfire. :) Glad you're enjoying it, and thanks for reviewing! :)
This just goes to show that boys are boys, regardless of their age. But left to their own devices, they surely would have come to duelling or at least a nasty shouting match at this point. It is the fact that they both care about Hermione so much that keeps them in control. And truly, she can't expect a miracle, can she? I think in time they will find that they can share her without too much grief. She really is a lucky girl to have them both.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
I think your analysis is absolutely correct on all fronts. Thanks for reviewing! :D
Severus and Harry seem to have very much the same opinion on how to play the game. Do they realise this? A fun chapter, for sure!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, I think they would both be shocked and horrified to think they had anything in common! :) Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oh dear. The boys are worse that children. Sigh. Hopefully they can reach an accord at some point. Neither of them are trying as hard as they should be, especially Harry. Another fun chapter, looking forward to the next one!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, well, no one *really* expected mature civility, did they? Glad you're enjoying, and thanks for commenting! :D
He may want to rethink following her, but I do like that she called them on it.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, well, she wasn't going to let them be so provoking without comment, was she? :) Thanks for commenting!
Wow, that went a lot better than I had thought it would. Harry started out being a real arse, but I was delighted to see how Hermione defended Severus and their relationship.I loved it when Severus told her she was his woman: “You became my woman this morning, if you weren’t already before then. I warned you that you should be sure of what you wanted, and you insisted you were. Are you changing your mind?” Of course she hasn't changed her mind. Perhaps after a good night's sleep, Harry will be able to behave more like true friend and a gentleman. Thanks for such a great chapter. I love it!Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hermione can be very stubborn about things that are important to her, and Harry's reaction made her dig her heels in, I think. Harry will have no choice but to try, unless he wants to lose her, which I'm sure he doesn't. It's always seemed to me that once Severus opened himself to a relationship, he'd dive in all the way and expect (or maybe just hope for) the other person to do the same, so there's the expression of that. Thanks for reviewing! :)
Squeeee!!!! I was so happy when Severus' all-too-familiar voice said in a dangerous tone, “I’ve come to collect what you owe me.”Now I just hope Harry will be as supportive of Hermione's choices as she has been of his. Hummmmmmmm... I wonder if Dumbledore's words to him will help Harry be kind and supportive? Probably not, but I hope Severus doesn't hex him either 'cause I don't think Hermione needs that right now.I'm off to read the next chapter of this wonderful story!!!Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, I'm glad you liked Severus taking the reins, so to speak. Poor Harry -- caught completely off-guard! Thanks for reviewing! :)
You know I love this story in all it's incarnations, but for some reason this is my absolute least favorite chapter. I think it's because of Harry's really immature attitude and how he keeps on jumping to conclusions and basically making an ass out of himself. I just realized as I'm writing this, you know why I don't like this chapter? It's embarrassing. Harry's attitude is embarrassing to read because it's so overly dramatic and over the top as only he could be. You wrote it perfectly, if it's inciting such a strong emotion in me, don't worry. But in all honesty, I really, REALLY hate Harry in this chapter!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from (I cringe at some of Harry's comments and accusations myself), so really, in a way, I'm glad you feel that (I often find it difficult to write people behaving badly, and I don't want to write perfect people -- I want them to have and display their flaws, though I also want them to grow and change, if that makes sense). I think that Harry is maturing (in that he started to calm down relatively quickly about this, compared to some other things in canon), and if Hermione had simply told him in the first place, he might possibly have been more mature about it from the beginning (or perhaps not -- it's hard to know since I didn't try to write it that way). The shock of walking in on them made him revert to immature thinking and immature expression of that feeling, you know? Anyway, I appreciate the thoughtful comment, and I hope you continue to enjoy! :)
Well, no one was harmed in the making of this chapter so that is something, right? I think what I liked most about this chapter was Severus (duh!) No, really, I like that in the beginning he was mad at her for keeping their relationship a secret, and also unhappy that Harry was staying in her room. Then when he realizes how very upset she is by all of this, even thinking that she might lose him, he handles her very gently. Then when Harry shows up and things blow up, rather than jump in and hex the boy, he lets Hermione lead the situation and is there to support her. Then in the end, he leaves, trusting her alone with Harry, and letting her know that should she need him, he will be there for her no matter what. This looks promising!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yeah, in a way, this was as much a growth chapter for Severus as it was for Harry. I think all of these reactions and responses from him are indicators of how much he cares for her. First, he's a little jealous and insecure, and also concerned about her reputation; then he realizes she's upset, so his insecurities take a back seat to trying to help her feel better; and then he backs off completely once he feels certain she'll be okay because he realizes that's what she needs. As much as he wants to make her world right for her, he's mature enough to realize that (a) he can't, really, because Harry won't listen to anything he says at the moment (or maybe ever) and (b) his worst impulses tend to come out around Harry, and if he hexed Harry that would make Hermione very unhappy (although I suspect he was hoping against hope that Hermione would hex Harry herself!) ;)
