I'm a forty-something American woman who is addicted to the SSHG pairing, relatively new to this fandom. I'm also considering starting some original fiction soon...
Check out the story I co-wrote with Remarkable -- it's called "Hidden Attractions" and (as soon as it's through the queue) it's archived under the penname remarkable_linlawless.
For those who are interested, I've got two WIPs at my website (which I will eventually post here, but not until I have a complete draft). It's easy and free to join the website, so I hope you'll visit!
I am honored that my story, Witchy Woman, has been selected as a featured story for September 2010. Better yet, this honor came with the very awesome banner at the top of this post!
Here's a couple of banners my friend Atuliel made for the two WIPs at my website:
Reviews for Witchy Woman
Woo Boy! I hope Ginny is right. If this charm isn't handle just right Hermione may well find herself all dressed up with no where to go. It's clear that they love each other, but they spend so much time in their own heads talking to themselves instead of talking to each other that it's a wonder they haven't found themselves in this spot sooner. (Damn that interfering Albus Dumbledore!)I'm eagerly a waiting the next chapter. Wonderful story!Beth

Glad you're still enjoying it! This plan is definitely a gamble -- it could fix things as Ginny thinks it will, or it could blow up in Hermione's face. Regardless, Hermione's not really the type to just watch things slide downhill without trying to take control, is she? Thanks for your thoughtful review -- you totally deserve the story they wrote for you! Happy 2011 :)

Thanks for your thoughtful review -- you totally deserve the story they wrote for you!Thank you very, very much!
Poor Severus can't yet envision a world in which he can be well and truly loved by the witch of his dreams. Silly man! What will it take for him to realize that Hermione is the real deal? I'm sure he'll get there sooner or later, but I have a feeling he's going to torture himself with his doubts a while longer. Hermione may have to take matters into her own hands to get him sorted. *grins*Will Albus be "helping" matters along in the future? I expect he won't be able to resist no matter what Minerva says. LOL!Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, well, Severus hasn't exactly had a life that would fill him with optimism and hope, has he? You're quite right about Hermione -- she isn't the sort to just let things happen, is she? I expect Albus will be keeping an eye on things, but hopefully Minerva has him in check for the moment -- Hermione and Ginny are perfectly capable of shaking things up without him :) Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oh boy. What a mess. But I'm sure it'll work out just fine. After all Snape hasn't had to deal with someone else with the name Potter successfully stealing away the love of his life before. Oh wait a minute. Oh boy. :(
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, true -- this plan is definitely not without risk, is it? Poor Hermione is feeling a little desperate at the moment, which is never conducive to clear thinking ...Thanks for commenting! :)
Thank goodness for Ginny!! I'm sure if it wasn't for this talk, Hermione would've convinced herself that Severus was going to leave her, and she probably would've dumped him, which in turn would convince him that he was right about her all along. Whew!!!!! I hope Ginny's idea works, because I don't think Hermione could take much more of Severus being distance.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yeah, Ginny's a good friend to Hermione in this story, isn't she? We'll see how things play out soon :) Thanks for commenting! :)
It's as simple as faking a self-confident love, to make Severus jealous! Unfortunately for Hermione, I don't think she's feeling very secure in anything right now
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
No, so of course a trip to the library is in order to restore her world to the correct alignment! :D Thanks for commenting!
Yay, Ginny! LOL. This is gonna be good!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehehe, well, good ... or a complete disaster -- we'll have to see which! ;) Either way, it's (hopefully) fun! Thanks for commenting :D
Stupid, stupid man.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, watch out -- he might hex you if he hears you say that (not that I disagree ...)Thanks for reviewing! :)
Severus is such an idiot! He's pushing Hermione away by no telling her he loved her because he's got it into his head that she's going to leave him. I think he does love her; but if not in love with her, then in what way does he love her? I have the feeling there's going to be a bit of a heartbreak coming up, before everything works out.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Well, love has not been kind to him in the past, so he's terrified at the very idea of it (not that he would ever admit that). He's telling himself he's not in love because 'in love' feels very unsafe to him. Just because he tells himself that, though, does not make it true. But we have a bit more struggle to get through before he figures it all out. :)Thanks for reviewing!
I find it interesting that Severus thinks that Hermione will eventually decide she doesn't love him, and leave. He is so worried about it, but it seems that in his mind he doesn't love Hermione. If someone you don't really love stops loving you, it just isn't such a big impact. Of course we all know that he really does love her, but is just confused about what he feels. It just blows my mind the way he sees things. He is truly a man, through and through. Nice chapter.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Well, practically everyone in his life has treated him as though he was unworthy of being loved, so it's not entirely surprising that he's afraid to trust that Hermione really does love him. And at some level, if he believes she doesn't really love him, it's safer emotionally for him to not love her -- so he's convinced himself that he doesn't. Poor, deluded, confused man! ;)Thanks for reviewing, and I'm glad you're enjoying!
:( How sad. Severus needs to get hit with the big clue stick that what he feels for Hermione is different because it's better. Silly man.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
You've hit exactly what I think is going on. He equates his relationship with Lily with being in love, so he assumes that because he feels differently about Hermione, it must be something else. He doesn't realize that different is better, and that the difference in how it feels is because this relationship is better and healthier in every way (he's more comfortable, more valued, more trusted, more cherished ...), and that he actually deserves all that. Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oh, goodness. What a swelling feeling of sadness envelopes when my thoughts linger on how Severus feels about himself, his worth, and the strange emotional connection to the unattainable Lilly Potter, nee Evans. Life is in front of him. Grasp, and you shall be healed.Thank you for sharing~

Yep, poor Severus. Life has not been particularly kind to him, and he retains the childlike view that he must deserve that. Hopefully, he'll wake up and realize that he deserves happiness as much as anyone. Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oh Severus you silly thing! She's NOT leaving. Unless of course you push her away!!!I love this story!!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
If only Severus believed that ... sigh. Thanks for reviewing, and I'm glad you're enjoying it! :)
It's not that I think Severus won't let go of Lily, I think that he's used her as an emotional crutch for so long, that he doesn't KNOW how to let go of her. The idea that he feels that he can't love Hermione the way she wants him to is utter bullshit. Of course he can, IF he allows himself to feel again and let go of this heroine worship of an unworthy Lily Evans Potter. He needs to just let go and learn to be unencumbered Severus Snape without the guilt that he's leaving her memory behind. I'm half tempted to suggest selective memory removal!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
True -- he's in the habit of thinking of Lily as the love of his life, and it hasn't occurred to him yet that being in love does not have to feel awful.I'm sure Dumbledore would love to sneak up on him and remove those pesky interfering memories! ;) Thanks for the review! :)
God, he's still a moron.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Hehe, yes. But hopefully he'll find his brains soon! ;)Thanks for commenting! :)
Oh no! I was all excited and thinking that for once, Dumbledore really knew what he was doing by forcing them together. Then Minerva had to come along and ruin things for me by pointing out the dangers of his plan. Now I'm nervous.I loved that while Severus didn't really want to dance, doing so made Hermione so happy that he got swept up in watching her and lost track of everything else in the world. Harry is totally in denial if he can't see that there is something special between them.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
It may be that both Minerva and Dumbledore are right to a degree -- I guess we'll see about that. Denial seems like the most probable reaction Harry would be having at this point, but hopefully he'll come around ...Thanks for reviewing! More will be up in a day or two! :)
I hope Dumbledore's meddling hasn't ruined things between Severus and Hermione. Severus wasn't behaving as though he wanted to hide his feelings for Hermione at the end of the ball. After all, he continued to hold her hand when he noticed the others looking at them.I'll be waiting for the next update to find out what will happen next. Beth
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
True -- Severus is such a complicated guy that it's easy to see where he would be stubbornly clinging to her hand one minute and pushing her away the next. We'll be seeing what happens next shortly -- next chapter should be up in a day or two. Thanks for reviewing! :)
ooohh, that Albus. Reminds me of Mrs. Jennings in Sense and Sensibility. "I think I shall try a little experiment on them." She says. Then Elinor says "Leave the poor colonel alone". Recast it with Albus doing an experiment and Minerva saying, "Leave the poor professor alone".
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Oh, you're so right! I didn't even think of it, but now that you mention it, that's a great comparison! Thank you for reviewing! :)
Aw, I think Dumbledore is in the mood for somethng happy....like a wedding! ...or something.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Aw, I think Dumbledore is in the mood for somethng happy....like a wedding! ...or something.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, yes, he probably is! Thanks for reviewing! :)
Actually, I don't think Albus has ever seen past the end of his nose, not really.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, well, I think of it as Albus viewing people as being like chess pieces, where he can decide strategy and move them where he wants. Unfortunately, people are more complicated than that and will rarely just do what you expect or want them to do ... Thanks for commenting. :)
I hope Minerva is wrong, and that Severus doesn't end things. But, I think I can see that happening, and poor Hermione will be so heartbroken. But then again, that may not even happen. I just see how it can.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
Yeah, she's definitely correct that it's a possibility, but we'll have to see what he actually does. Thanks so much for commenting. Next chapter should be up in the next day or two.
...uh oh. And Snape is there, and Harry's going to see him. :p
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, yep -- and his reaction has just been posted -- hope you enjoy it! Thanks for commenting! :D
Ooohh Harry is going to walk in on Hermione and Severus, I guess actions speak louder than words lol Look forward to the update!
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, yeah, not the easiest way for him to find out, is it? Although I'm not sure any way would be particularly good from his perspective, right? Thanks for reviewing! :)
I hope Hermione gets up the strength to tell Harry soon and not drag it out too long.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
You know she's only going to worry until she does, so hopefully she'll just get it over with right away. Thanks for commenting! :)
Oh, of course she owes him a kiss! I'm glad he took the initiative, although I hope we get to see the next chapter soon because I can't imagine how awkward it is going to be.
Response from linlawless (Author of Witchy Woman)
LOL, yes, it's going to be a bit of a kerfuffle! Hopefully I'll have it posted in a few days. Thanks for commenting! :)
