I'm a forty-something American woman who is addicted to the SSHG pairing, relatively new to this fandom. I'm also considering starting some original fiction soon...

Harry's visit is coming at such a bad time. Hopefully he won't get caught in the crossfire. Things got a bit tense there at the end, and I can't say that I specifically fault one or the other of them. They really should have talked before they slept together, but then, it wasn't actually supposed to happen yet either. I hope they can work things out quickly and calmly. Ok, we'll just aim for quickly.

Oh, dear. Maybe they should have talked more beforehand, but I hope they'll have a chance to before Harry arrives. At any rate, they now have something very intimate to discuss. I hope Hermione doesn't stay upset. Time will tell.Beth

Unfortunately, as unworldly as she is, that's exactly what she needs - is a label for it. "My paramour", "we are lovers"... it doesn't matter what he says, it's a 'label' because it is a definition. It defines the parameter of the relationship between them and by that means, actually labels each of them. No, it's not a 'nice' word for it, but Hermione is so analytical that she needs to put everything into it's own nice, neat category to understand it. And even though it's clinical and cold sounding, you have to label that box in order to know what's in there.

Yes, I agree with your assessment. When Hermione feels anxious, she uses organization (of thoughts, of schedules, whatever) to help her feel in control. So yeah, pretty much any label would have gone over better than trying to not label it. Thanks for commenting! :)
Hermione and Severus sure took each other on a roller coaster in this chapter. As much as Hermione is confused now, I am thinking that Severus should have been spending his month talking a little about his feelings or thoughts for the future. I sure hope they don't let Harry's visit keep them from talking all weekend.

Hehehe -- isn't that what happens when you hop into bed too soon? Especially when you're emotionally on the young side, miscommunications and hurt feelings abound. It's that whole vulnerability thing, you know? Poor Severus, all confused by Hermione's confusion. And poor Hermione, all insecure because of Severus's tendency to keep his own counsel. Poor Severus! Hermione certainly likes to torment him. Although, he sort of brought it upon himself with the one month restriction. But, at least she got him to go a bit further than usual.

I love this Hermione! I mean, I do understand Snape's reservations, and I think he is making them wait as much for her benefit as his, but could it be more obvious how much she wants him? And then in the end when he is soothing her from her tears, and then gives her a little something to take the edge off... how could she not want to keep him around? I don't know if I see them making it through the month week night ;)

The funny thing is, I get where they're both coming from. He's feeling cautious and anxious, trying to take things slowly to keep his fears in check, while she's feeling anxious and impatient, wanting to move ahead before anything goes wrong. Tough situation on both of them, isn't it? But I think the poor guy is doomed. ;)
Their frustration is so palpable that Hermione's tears triggered my eyes tearing up too.

I'm so glad Severus thought this through so carefully. Poor Hermione. If Harry can't be civil to save his friend from being in an unpleasant situation he isn't much of a friend.

Squee! YAY! Wonderful scene. Again, the very perceptive Severus has reasoned Hermione out, and he does a great job. Oh, I could see the moment she tried to flee. I love that your Severus knows he'd rather just go away than try to face Potter; it's so in-character and keeps him from being perfect. YAY!

I've been readiing this story with utter fascination since the first chapter. Your skill with words keeps me coming back to see how the story continues - and one thing for sure, the way this chapter ends is the perfect cliff-hanger!
