When Hermione discovers that an incurable Snape has been left to waste in a secret hospital ward, she sets out to do what so many have failed to do before and cure him.
This is my response to the Dictionary Drabble Challenge. The chapters have to be less than one thousand words and contain the listed words.

Thank you again.
Just found this under 'recently added'. I'm loving every syllable of it so far, expecially To be free of the venom, he had to forgive himself. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. /M

how very intriguingly you use the words. thanks for this facinating update
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Don't thank me; thank you for the review :) It's nice of you to say that I use the words intriguingly--in truth, I struggle, but I have noticed that the words sometimes dictate what the chapter will cover, and they have even generated a few new twists that I had not considered until reading the email from potter place; it takes the strain off a bit. The next two drabbles are up in the next chapter currently in the queue, and I hope to catch-up fairly soon. Thank you once again.

Very interesting. I like the theory that Severus can cure himself by forgiving himself. Was that idea inspired by canon in some way?
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review and the rating. I have this theory that magic in combination with intense emotion can have an impact upon the physical well-being and even appearance of a wizard. I kept thinking about Harry's ability to grow his hair quickly when Petunia scalped him, and I wondered if that combination of magic and emotion could trap someone in a state of magically-induced ill health or general morbid appearance; a state that only forgiveness or a resolving of those emotions could alleviate.

Ah, I guess the decaying wreck of a person (woman) is Bellatrix. How about some Hermione/Snape interaction?
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. Yes. Quite ftting, in a macabre way. There will be some Hermione/Severus interaction after the next few chapters. The fact that each chapter has to be less than a thousand words and that I must wait for the next word list slows down the plot development a little, but now that all the characters are in place, the story can progress all the quicker. As I typed this, I wondered whether or not to use the word lists submitted before I joined the Drabble fun and do a series of several drabbles all in one chapter. Doing that will speed up things nicely... hmmm. I'll do that! lol... less time to wait for that Hermione/Snape interaction :D (although the rating for this will be PG-13 throughout--I'm terrible at writing anything remotely romantic).
I didn't realize this was a dictionary challenge until I looked at the reviews - you might want to put in a note to that effect (because otherwise an author explaining vocabulary to the reader seems a bit peculiar, LOL.) Poor Snape - sadly, I can believe this rather too well. Snape, even vindicated, would still make many people too uncomfortable. They'd want to forget about him as quickly as possible...
I love how she whispers forgiveness to him - he is someone who can't forgive himself, so that would probably do him more good than anything else!
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. Hmm... lol, you're right. I'll amend the summary to highlight that this is part of the Dictionary Drabble fun at Potter Place. It's going to be a struggle because so many will be against the effort on any number of grounds: apathy, a sense of poetic justice, ignorance or just plain old vindictiveness. Snape won't exactly be helping her either as he wallows in what he considers to be his fitting punishment.
I'm intrigued as to what will happen next.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. All the characters are now in place; thank you for bearing with me on this and staying with it after a rather vague start :)
Intensely gripping!

Thank you for the review and the rating.
Ah, I've thought about it and reread the chapters from the beginning. Meadows knew that Minerva had faith in Hermione's ability to act on the knowledge in the obscure book she found in the library, so Hermione must have discussed her intentions with Minerva. And he knew what Hermione's reaction was when Minerva told her she had to stop visiting St. Mungo's. But Meadows had to make an appointment to talk to Minerva, so it's not as if they're friends who floo and owl each other regularly. So . . . could Meadows have a spy in the headmistress's office - perhaps a portait?
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
I can't think of a greater compliment than the effort you're going to; thank you so much! Minerva has faith in Hermione's abilities, and she would enforce that with anyone who questioned her about Hermione. Meadowes and Minerva had been chatting about Hermione for a while--I would like to bring back Meadowes comment about Minerva not giving her [Bellatrix] any reason to cavil about Hernione before. I have a flaw of being too subtle at times, and I guess that I do not pass some info across as effectively as I should. The next few chapters should be clearer and less confusing.I hope that helps to sort things out a bit :)Thank you for the review.
I like mysteries, but I don't understand how an orderly at St. Mungo's knew what book Hermione Granger was reading at Hogwarts. If I'm following the timeline correctly, she found the book in the Hogwart's library and read it in her private room at the school. She hadn't had the opportunity to visit Snape to act on the information she found, yet somehow Meadows - an orderly at the hospital - knew she was going to use the information from that obscure book when she next visited Snape. How was that possible?
And my best guess is that the creature who should be in Azkaban is Bellatrix. I can't think of any other female Death Eater who would be so determined to punish Snape.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. Hogwarts has a thousand eyes! A thousand eyes that can move anywhere throughout the castle, unseen if needs be, and be everywhere that they need to be. After all, I don't recall that the students did their own laundry, and can you imagine Draco making his own bed in the morning?Excellent! Well done. I would love to know what went through your mind as you pondered the thing being Bellatrix... after all, she was hit with the Killing Curse :DThank you again :)
I am entranced. But how does a hospital orderly come to have influence enough with the Headmistress of Hogwarts to change her mind on what liberties she grants to any of her charges, let alone one of her favorites? And there are all the other headmasters and headmistresses she has to call upon for counsel. What makes him so special?
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
*Big Grin* Indeed! How do apparently positionless people get to change someone's mind? Nothing so sinister, I'm afraid, but there is a connection between Meadowes and Minerva that was formed decades ago, and it would not be difficult to gently sway the mind of a concerned Headmistress when the safety of one of her favourites may be at risk. Perhaps a remnant of Voldemort's supporters wishing to exact revenge upon the witch who played a direct part in the death of their master? Sometimes logic can be a useful manipulator, and when it fails to impact... there are certain charms. Thank you for the review and the stars :)
Unfortunately I can believe every syllable in this portrayal of Snape's treatment.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. He is a source of discomfort, and who would be there to ensure that he was well looked after? Unfortunately, life has moved on for so many, and without prospect of recovery, he was left in the tender care of the hospital.
That was quite interesting. The mystery deepens for me, anyway.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review and the rating. Now that the characters are in place, the next chapter will be a bit more revealing and concentrate on Snape's recovery.
Ugh, after reading some of the other reviews, I get it better. How awful! That woman, Bella, needs to be strung up by her dead thumbs and left to rot.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review and for staying with the story. It'll be a while yet until she gets her just reward. Thanks again for reading :)
I was a bit confused by the last paragraph. After re-reading the beginning I think I understand better but I didn't get who "he" is. Anyway good use of this week's words.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. I apologise. It seems that I have been far too vague in the previous chapters. Up to this point, the main characters are Hermione, Severus, the hulked thing and the elderly orderly who complimented Hermione at the end of the first chapter. The next chapter identifies the elderly orderly a little more and gives more clues as to the hulked thing, but I would like it if you could guess who it is. I will of course tell you at some point in the chapter after next. Again, my apologies for not being clearer.
I'm completely confused, but entirely hooked... wonder what's next?
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. I've almost finished the next chapter, and I'm trying to give some more information to help you get to grips with the characters invloved, but it's hard work given the length restriction (hard but fun!). I don't want to give too much away because I'd love it for you to figure it out (I love mysteries... a character flaw, maybe... lol), and the clues are coming. For now, I would like to share with you how the characters come together and why they interact as they do. If the plot descends into the realm of utter nutterdom, then please let me know :D ... lol. Thank you again.
I LIked the family reunion. The RoR has got to be an improvement than the shack you was. I cannot believe they walked into such a trap. And what was thi about the finger? She dissect Hermione and put her together? It's really confusing. And Draco is next? is she going to attach Hermione's finger on Draco? When are they - anyone going to discover Bella is wondering around inside Meadows?
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review :) and thanks for reading the story.
The plot most assuredly thickens. We have several very murky characters here, but I'm sure the fog will lift and things will become clearer in future installments. I shall patiently await them.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you again. I foresee a few chapters of heavy fog which will disperse as a chapter comes from the south with a band of low pressure writing. Hopefully the next list of words will be available soon :)
Well, now. This is intriguing. Is Snape lost in his own mind? I can imagine a lot of people might wish Snape to suffer. I wonder which one this might be. I hope that book prepares Hermione for her task better than they seem to think it will.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review and the rating. I will keep adding bits in; it's proving difficult to put much in each chapter due to the restrictions of length and the need to use the set words, but hopefully there is enough. I am having fun with this challenge :D
Chilling! Thanks for the warning in the beginning. I actually think that fewer details leave more to the imagination, which, in my case at least, makes the scene even more terrifying.Have you ever seen the movie, "The Bone Collector?"This reminds me of that for some reason.I'm glad it's morning, so I have the rest of the day to let this fade. Otherwise it would be invading my mind in my dreams tonight. Yikes!
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
I agree with you there! The imgination is an extremely powerful tool. I took the cue from the orignal 'The Haunting'. There is a scene where you can't see anything, but can hear Eleanor and Cleo (Oops! If that's her name?!) talking--and it's absolutely riveting and terrifying!I have watched 'The Bone Collector', and I can't see a connection at the moment... but thereagain, I tend to write as it comes, so I could have been influenced by this and 'Fallen', which I think you may have mentioned before.Yes... so glad that you read this is in the morning (but I'm actually grinning that the chapter had such an impact... so sorry about that :D)Thanks so much for the review and reading my story: your support is much valued :)
Ugh. Bellatrix still trying to take over the world, one muggle posession at a time!
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for the review. I really enjoy writing Bellatrix; she's challenging and so versatile in her eagerness to do whatever it takes. I do apologise, but I smiled when I read your comment. It reminded me of marketing and advertising.
Response from Severus49 (Reviewer)
LOL, yeah, I kind of realize that now when I look at it!
LOL So Lucius is going Muggle.Lucius and Narcissa. Oh, Hermione is in for a real struggle with him. But why is she - oh, gods! Meadows! You mena Bellatrix!!
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Yep! They're going Muggle; should be fun :DI do, but she doesn't know that... *eerie music kicks in*
EWE! But she only needs a few fingers to stay connected to her 'body' ah, er, ok. Meadows doesn't stand a chance now - I suppose he's done for now. Thankfully, Draco will work with Hermione. That's a switch - him trusting her. Oh, well.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
She's not putting all her fingers in one basket :) She has plans for those fingers. Thanks for reading and reviewing :)
i'm not certain my imagination extends as far as lucius and narcissa as muggles but i look forward to how it happens! thanks so much
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Bit of a stretch, I admit. I have a few scenes for them that I think will make it slightly more believable :DThank you for reading and reviewing :)
Oh dear! How ominous. We readers know that Meadows is not who he appeares to be...Great update. I am on the edge of my seat to see where this leads.
Response from sweetflag (Author of For Him)
Thank you for reviewing :)Yes, shame that Sub Rosa is so hush-hush that no one knows what happened. Will Hermione find out before she pays him a visit? I hope to update pretty soon, so not to leave you perched there for too much longer :D
