Minerva has just finished her first term teaching. A series of misunderstandings leads to an embarrassing moment, injured feelings, regret, growing understanding, then resolution. A Minerva McGonagall fic set in 1957, with forays into the past. More than a Romance; stories within stories. Features Minerva, Albus, and Poppy, with appearances by Slughorn, Grubbly-Plank, Hagrid, Flitwick, Moody, Riddle, Grindelwald, and other canon characters. Not DH-compliant. Disregards DH.
Nineteen Parts.
Most content T-rated, but ratings rise to M and MA for several later chapters. Overall M rating reflects later content.
Pertinent warnings in individual chapter summaries.

Reviews for Resolving a Misunderstanding
oh that was great.
So cute the way malcom calls albus boss.
And how perfect to through albus’s fire magic in the mix there – he is quite the pyromaniac in the HP novels.
very nice references to voldie and his rise in this chapter; always nice to have a time context for this story
albus is so cute worrying about poppy and her exam. Very cute
speaking of cute, Gertrude and Malcolm are juts darling together. Thanks for that glimpse into their world
lovely chapter(s)

Very glad you liked it and thought it was all cute! *grin* I'm happy you enjoyed Gertrude and Malcolm together! Thanks much!
hahaha...
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks for the giggle! The next chapter should be posted in a couple of days, as it's in the queue.
Interesting, indeed.
What a wonderful beginning. I love how you "show" the story through dialogue. Beautifully done. I wonder if Minerva's blush matched her tartan?
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! I enjoy writing dialogue, actually. And as for the blush . . . she doesn't own any tartans with quite that much red in them!!!
Wow, so far, it's a great story. It's been my bedtimestory for the last few days and it really is very fascinating. I hadn't written a review just now, but onla at the end of the story (yeah, sorry, I'm lazy...), if there hadn't been mentioned Minervas apprenticeship in Germany. But didn't you say she'd apprenticedin France?
Simply have been wondering.
Great story!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
The apprenticeship in France was ended with her Challenge, as was explained in chapter 29, so she didn't get her Mastery in France, then she did another one which she completed, which we learn in chapter 39 was in Germany.
I'm glad you're enjoying the story!
You realize that your writing is adding to global warming and may end up being regulated if you keep going like this.Though, here in the Midwest, a nice heat wave is welcome.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
But you see, you can now turn down your thermostat! Much cleaner than fossil fuels!!! ;-)
Here, we had a 74 degree day last week, and today it didn't get above freezing during the day and is well below freezing now with bad wind chill. It's supposed to be in the 40s during the day. Nasty. So I'm glad I could send a bit of a heat wave your way!

Hmm, I think these two are finally learning to "communicate"! Good lord, though, how did they ever manage to function, in public no less, after an evening at like that?!LOL at the potato sack. Too funny! I'm just loving this, they're finally being together, and being comfortable with each other. Again, so much like "real" people. It's very natural and believable.*sigh* I love romacne!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Glad you like the chapter, and that the romance pleases you! I think they deserve a little romance after all they put themselves through.
Loved the review! Thanks!

Wooow, RaM has been each time more interesting! It's so good to read all the romance beetween Minerva and Albus, I've been almost devouring these last chapters.
Oh gods, it's wonderful (and let me say, it's very hot too)
Thank you very much!

Great chapter! I felt awful for Minerva when Albus said that he wanted to walk her back to her rooms - I do understand his feelings on the matter, but I also understand hers. Does Murdoch know that she and Albus are together? I think so! I wonder where Albus is taking Minerva on their outing - perhaps the spot he took her to in "Forever in the Sun"? I look forward to reading the next chapter, and especially reading about their holiday!

Hopping around the sites and trying to confuse me? haha! Thanks for the review.

Holy hell!!!!!! You are so frickin wicked! And I love itWhat a cliffhanger. And finally – wall sex! That was incredibly hot – and I can’t wait for the next chapterMinerva is so damn conniving – in a good way. The way she played the little demure ‘oh albus aren’t I pretty enough for you’ bit to perfection. She is wicked too! and thank goodness for it Also looking forward to the duel but mainly right now I need to go cool off after that chapter!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Oh, I could have given you a REAL cliffhanger -- Minerva trying to convince him to make love to her, and we end the chapter not knowing whether he gives in or not! LOL! But I couldn't be that mean, so I did try to give y'all a full love-making scene. And I'm very glad you liked it and found it hot! And yep, Minerva can be a little bit wicked in a good cause -- like breaking down Albus's last little bit of resistance! LOL!
Thanks much!

Uh oh. Babies with older fathers. Things sure can get awkward quickly.I have one of those little USB port powered fans that I am using right now. It just got really hot in here.Feel free to post the next chapter any second now.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Well, we're having a heat wave where I am now -- maybe it's that! haha!
Next update will likely be this weekend sometime, though perhaps a little sooner, if I can manage it.
Well, Mr. Malcolm Mercury McGonagall, talk about pots calling kettles black when you don't even know what's really going on with the kettle. You deserved that smack upside the head from your little sister.Humph.We do seem to be making progress on the romance front, even if things aren't moving as swiftly as Minerva would like. Albus is shy because this relationship counts. Patience may be frustrating, but it is a virtue.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Yes, it is a virtue -- one I spent YEARS working on, and I still backslide. But it is a virtue -- and it can also allow you to really enjoy the moment, too.
Loved the review, as always!
oh, that is a very naughty cliffhanger! If this is Albus out of practice with lovemaking, my imagination [almost!] fails at his in-practice skills! If we were actually having a winter here, I'd go sit out on the deck to cool off. I may need to stand in front of the freezer for awhile...*ahem*I got a good laugh out of Melina's Muggle appliances. She's a bit kooky, but endearing.Lovely line: "held by his strength and supported by his love." I love all your little touches, like "Modern British Healcraft", the discussion of favorite childhood books, the staff coming back to Hogwarts, etc. It all adds so much depth, and is so vivid and natural.I enjoyed all of it, as usual!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
We're having a heat wave in February, so maybe it's spreading! LOL! Yup, not really winter here, either. But I'm glad you enjoyed that!
Thanks! I'm glad that the lemon didn't erase your memory of the other little bits that you enjoyed. ;-)
Thank you for reviewing! I appreciate it!
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.Wow.

Lucky Minerva! If that's what Albus conjures up on a spur of the moment for a date, one planned in advance is probably very decadent! Loved the chapter! :D

He loves to treat Minerva right! :) Glad you loved it!

The part where Quin pledges himself to Minerva is a very nice gesture. I also liked how the two of them were able to deduce what they think might be the source of Albus' image issues. The surprise date is very cute. Excellent chapter.

What an excellent chapter. I love the interaction between them as they are newly in love with each other. Just a comment, there's a break in the text where you combined the two chapers from fanfiction.net, with the title and picture. Other than that, great work!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! Silly me! It was probably from posting elsewhere, not ffnet - if I post to a board, there's a length limit. A pity no one PM or emailed me about it. But I can fix it now.

*sigh* oh, that was nice! Very sweet, and Albus is definitely relaxing more around her.I liked Dilys givng Albus wardrobe advice, and Egria and Merwyn together. They're cute! I like how very at easy and warm and homey Egria is with Albus, and with them as a couple.Lots of warm fuzzies!I liked Albus and his his broomless flying. He is quite impressive! *ahem*

I did read this when it went up, but did not get a chance to post a review. The whole chapter was a delight. A very pleasing Malcolm fix <g>, and I loved all of it, from the dueling to the little lecture about not being a gentleman! Loved the Charmed Obsidian Seer's Glass!Sorry for the quick review, but I'm anxious to get on to the new chapter!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
I'm glad you liked getting your Malcolm fix. :) He was pleased to have more attention paid to him. He still thinks that he and Trudie should have an entire chapter to themselves, at least, but I don't see how that will happen! He (and she) will appear again, though!
Hope you enjoy the next chapter!

Thanks again!

oh, bravo, that was wonderful! It brought back so many warm lovely memories of that first flush of love, with my dh. You are a truly gifted writer! I particularly liked how she suddenly found Wagner not so objectional. Love makes everything beautiful, and that first, special, intensity in a relationship changes everything around you. The world glows!Loved the Arithmancy calculations! And I liked that Minerva said so frankly that Albus loves Gertrude, and his little start of surprise. It was just a nice touch. I'm enjoying their revelations to one another, and their finally being able to clear up so much.Comparing the start of their relationship to the warm up of the orchestra was beautiful! That one made me cry.I'm alwys hungry after reading any of your descriptions about food! What a delightful, wonderful, chapter. All those 600,000 words of angst (well, not *all* angst) was worth it!! The payoff is even better than anticpated!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thank you very much! (BTW, I don't personally view RaM as "angst," since in fanfic, that seems to equate with torturing the characters and the reader with no prospect of a happy ending. It's an artificial fanfic "genre" and most "angst" I have read makes the "angst" the point of the story, and even if RaM had an ending in which Quin didn't get them together and they ended up separated at the conclusion of the story, despite their love for one another and because of Albus's irrational difficulties, I'd see the story as a tragedy, not as "angst"; since they do get together, I see it as a dramatic romance with "difficulties" for the characters on their way to the happy ending. haha!)
I'm glad you enjoyed all the little descriptions in the chapter, especially that you liked the bit with the warm-up of the orchestra. And I got hungry, myself, while writing about their dinner! haha!
I am glad you like the payoff -- I worried that now that they are together, interest in the story would drop off. Even though there are lemons in the future!
Thanks for the review! There will be another chapter up on Friday or Saturday.
Now, that's romance. Drinks, a concert, an excellent dinner. Albus Dumbledore certainly knows how to entertain a lady.I can understand Albus' desire to keep Minerva to himself for a little while. He's famous enough that once they become known as a couple, they'll garner a lot of attention and talk. He seems very private about his personal life, even if Minerva doesn't seem to need that like he does. He's adjusting. Let's just say that sometimes the wine is all the sweeter for having had to wrestle with the cork. Taking the time until they are both ready is wise.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
How lovely! I feel like I'm wrapped up in the warming quilt Albus gave Minverva! I'm so happy for our couple! As ever, Quin is wonderful. I cried when he talked about Aileen, and his love for her. How beautiful, and bittersweet. I can't get enough of this story. While I'm thrilled to see Albus and Minerva getting closer, I am going to very sad when this finally wraps up! Thank you again for the pdfs, so I can get a fix when I need it!Off to read the one-shot so I can find the fore-fore-shadowing<g>. And hoping the events to show up include Aberforth.Lovely, warm, emotional chapter. *sigh*
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thank you! I'm really happy you liked the chapter. There still more story to come, and various threads to tie up. I'm glad you enjoyed the bit where Quin talks about Aileen. Her loss was very traumatic for him.
I'm glad you like the pdfs. I plan on doing RaM in the same way when it's finished. I will probably have to compress it into a zip file, since it's so long. (According to WordPerfect, it's up to over 692 thousand words without the author's notes and such that get counted in the wordcount on TPP.)
Thanks for reviewing!
You did manage to get Minerva and Quin through this without embarrassing either of them over her atypical behavior when she was rebounding. Nicely done. Their conversation was surprisingly frank for a man and woman, even if they are good friends. Now, we shall get to see Albus and Minerva on a date. Reader jumps up and down, clapping in delight.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Minerva and Quin do feel very intimate with each other, and Quin has become such a confidant for her that even though she was initially reluctant to discuss the topic with him, once she started, he made her comfortable with it. Quin is very good with people even when he isn't exuding his special "charm." She is able to speak with him more frankly than even with someone like Poppy or Melina, or, for very different reasons, her mother.
I hope you will enjoy the date! Albus likes to surprise Minerva.
