A Minerva McGonagall fic set in 1957, with forays into the past. More than a Romance; stories within stories. Features Minerva, Albus, and Poppy, with appearances by Slughorn, Grubbly-Plank, Hagrid, Flitwick, Moody, Riddle, Grindelwald, and other canon characters. Not DH-compliant. Disregards DH.

Reviews for Resolving a Misunderstanding
Given their age difference, Albus truly demonstrated that he is an honorable man by not pursuing Minerva at the moment of first attraction. A more devious fellow might have been inclined to assess if their might be a bit of receptivity on her part and taken advantage. Far better to wait until she has some life experience and let life bring them back together. Nice touch!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! I wanted to have him find her attractive fairly early on, and naturally he was already quite fond of her at that point, but I didn't want him to exploit her, or even to consider the possibility of a relationship with her, that early. It shows, though, that the seeds were already there for him to find her truly attractive, but being honorable, he wouldn't even consider it as a future possibility. (We'll see this happen again at a later time -- not at the time of the "present" story with Minerva at Hogwarts -- and in that other context, it will be still be honorable, although misguided.)
Once Minerva matures beyond the young woman for whom he felt initial attraction, she will actually be more attractive to him because of that added life experience, and so on, an, of course, she'd be able to consider a real relationship with him -- which at that point, being still awe-struck by him and engulfed by her excessive teenage feelings for him, she couldn't have done at that age.
I couldn't help but chuckle at how nervous Albus seemed at the beginning of their meeting. For a man working on his second century, he seemed like a very nervous swain! It is nice to have the two of them back in each other's good graces.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Yes, well, confidence in many areas of life doesn't always translate into confidence in all of them. *grin* Just because a man possesses more than the usual share of talents, strengths, and intelligence, doesn't mean he won't be nervous about things that are on a more personal level. I'm glad it made you chuckle! *grin* Things will move along . . . not without bumps in the road, but now they've gotten a push in the right direction.
Cute chapter with the young Melina. Great work.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! Glad you liked young Melina. I tried to make her cute and precocious without making her annoying (or overly precocious!). Thank you for reviewing!
Oh poor Alby! Seriously though, this is one of the things that has always fascinated me when it comes to the relationship of these two - first, she was his student, and second, he is her senior by many years. While she is an adult, the first must have at least a lingering influence, but more importantly the age difference - wizard's lives are long, but this is still a huge one. I do like the way you are handling this, wonder how you'll get it to progress and who will be the bolder of the couple or will they simply stumble through?
Oh and go Alby! Yes, every women likes flowes! *giggles*
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
I think it's the age difference combined with their original student-teacher relationship that makes this so much fun -- and a challenge -- to write. To explore how their feelings and their relationship could develop over time and, despite the huge differences, they could come together as a couple. He will always know more than she, simply by virtue of his age and experience, but he's so much more knowledgable and powerful than just about everyone else anyway that, although the difference in experience/knowledge/power may be particularly great between Albus and Minerva because of their relative ages, it's not as though he has a lot of peers in that regard. And what appeals to him about Minerva is what she adds to his life, which does not necessarily have anything to do with how knowledgable or powerful she is.
So far, there's only been one "day" -- and a lot of history. Give them some time. And guess which one might be bolder! *grin*
(I think you're right about the flowers!)
Hehe, a meeting with a dinner date. I so called it chapters ago. And their advancing relationship is soo cute, since they don't want to pass the friend boundary yet. Can't wait for the next chapter. :D
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! The next chapter will be up in a day or two.
Hmm, Minnie forgot and the Ministry made a big mistake. Good thing her parents can think through it. A short, but informing chapter. Keep up the good work.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Yup. Glad you liked the chapter -- it ties in with some later action many chapters ahead.
Very intense chapter. I like how Minerva spies while playing like a cat. Good work.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
It was fun to write the "cat" scene.
Thanks for the review.
Yay! Minnie found Albus! Great chapter as usual.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks!
Those Aurors are sooo smart, lol. Good chapter!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Oh, yeah, very! Thanks for reviewing.b
Aww, what a poignant chapter. Excellent work!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
I am glad you found it touching. I was sad even as I wrote it.
Thank you. I appreciate the review.
Good chapter. Minerva's interactions with Carson are very well done and believable, and she's letting herself have some fun. Keep up the good work! :D
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thank you -- glad you liked their interaction.
Thanks for the review!
*snip*(GG did ask me whether I shouldn’t have scheduled an appointment with MM immediately and then arched her brows at me, which, when we are playing chess, usually means she thinks I’m making a foolish error)*snip*Snicker.... so Gertrude (who is the bomb by the way) also is an eyebrow archer.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
heheheh. Indeed!I'm beginning to feel in the mood to write some fic, with your mention of Gertrude. hmmmmm ...
Response from Fishy (Reviewer)
I love EEET! *is so excited to read more Super Gertrude!*
Another excellent chapter. Keep up the good work! :D
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks!
Reading for the third time - this is just the fluff I need for a most miserable last few weeks - just thought I'd poke my nose in and tell you - I'm at it AGAIN!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
I'm glad you're enjoying it again!
Response from Fishy (Reviewer)
I've read this story countless times on the ADMM board. Can't wait to read the next chapters!!!!!Update, pretty please
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
As soon as Holiday is over, as I've said, they will return to Hogwarts, and RaM will pick back up again.
Ah, well, IT is a fickle thing;) Just loved those 2 chapters, 'My Dear' ! What would we be without denial?? Minerva is just such an believable character, with all her subconcious analysing of everything Albus says...yet denying IT with all her might. Great work! Again Lol I´m repeating myself.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying it. We humans are such odd creatures, aren't we?
There's a little more story and a little less introspection in the coming chapters. I do like Minerva and Albus analysing everything, but it could get a mite tedious if it went on relentlessly. *grin*
There's another chapter in the queue, so check back in a few days.
Thanks again for reviewing!
Poor Minnie, suffering through that awkward lunch listening to Hagrid compare things to parts of his body. At least Dumbledore rescheduled their meeting, even if he didn't sit beside her. Since it's so close to dinner, is it going to be a "date" after? Lol.
Good work. Looking forward to the next chapter. :D
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
A "date"? We shall see . . . . I'm glad I didn't have to listen to Hagrid's conversation while trying to eat my lunch, myself! LOL
Thank you very much for reviewing!
At last, the first acknowledgement of love! But Minerva should know better. Has Albus done everything he's done for her for anyone else? Of course not.
Excellent chapter, can't wait for the next one.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Resolving a Misunderstanding)
Well, she is a teenager and prone to melodrama . . . but beyond that, there's love and there's love, if you know what I mean! *grin* There's another chapter in the queue now, so it should be up in a few days.
Thank you for your review! I'm glad you're still enjoying the story.
